Lowes Foods are rare around this area but I was happy to find one. This is one of the more updated locations I've been to. It reminds me of the classic Lowes Foods back in the day with the mom-and-pop feel. There's a little bar here as well. The store is always stocked with a variety of items. read more

I enjoy getting a beer while I shop, though the old white dudes working the beer garden are less than friendly and seem to be more interested in their phones or watching the game than serving customers. Whenever we visit Pittsboro, we pick up groceries at Lowes grocery store. Since we were there last, the store has been renovated with a new look. They also added an area called the Beer Den where you can get a pint of beer from local breweries and drink it there. What is really nice is that these pints are 1/2 price on Thursday. While I was there, I tried a beer called Yeah Toast. It was delicious and literally tasted like French Toast. read more

The store has undergone a massive renovation and it is night and day difference from the old store. The Beer Den is much bigger, they have a place called the "Cakery" where you can get amazing cakes, they now chop fruits and vegetables for you, there is a full coffee shop called "Boxcar" which makes amazing hot and cold drinks, and their online pick up and delivery service - Lowes Foods To Go - is awesome! I use the Lowes Foods to go service and it's always a pleasant experience. The app that Lowes provides is easy to use when ordering food choices and if for any reason an item is not available the staff will call you and ask you for substitutions. They don't just make a decision without confirming it with you over the phone which is unlike other services out there. They also pay attention to selecting fruits and vegetables. The choices are satisfactory and meet my standards for freshness. The prices at Lowe's food are comparable to other stores in the area and they have a variety of smoked meats that they make in the store. Many of these types of smoked meats are not available at other grocery stores in the area. Lowes has a big variety of wines and beer and you can even enjoy one of these beverages at a bar in the store or while shopping. They also have fresh herbs that you can pick right out of an area that are grown right inside the store. One of my favorite things that I get when I put my food order in from Lowe's is there chicken wings. They cook them to perfection they're crispy golden browned and are flavorful and moist. The staff is always helpful and friendly when you go into the store but I like the online shopping version of shopping at Lowe's personally. Lowes is a gem of store. read more

The grocery store market in our area is very competitive and this keeps the supermarket company boardrooms looking for new ways to remain a step ahead or at least be at step with the competition. Acknowledging this trend of larger stores and upgrading, Winston-Salem based Lowes Foods renovated the Chapel Hill location with their new contemporary look. This store on US Highway 15 is one of the new stores with this concept of more square feet, wider aisles, low-rise shelves, sleek new signs to easily direct costumers, better selection, and good prices. This store is so vast that there is a lot to cover in this review. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by a clean, well-organized, and spacious interior. You are greeted by a nice selection of vegetables and other perishables that include a wide variety of organic and natural items. This quickly transitions into the deli section with a very good selection of Boar's Head products as well as other non-mainstream items. Highlights of the supermarket are: The Salad Bar: At only $4.99 per pound this has to be one of the most economical salad bars in the area and most delicious. A similar product is found in other stores like Harris Teeter and Whole Foods that cost almost ten dollars per pound. The price is great for cash-strapped college students and for the budget conscious crowd. Besides the good price, every time I come here the veggies look fresh and the options are many to create your own salad. This is a great choice for lunch or dinner and for those who are of the vegan or vegetarian persuasion, although there is chicken option for meat lovers. Also of note, is the fruit selection which offers a nice bang for your buck. The $9.99 Meal: Your choice of Rotisserie or fried chicken pieces with two side options of mashed potatoes, beans, macaroni & cheese, potato salad, or macaroni salad. A great pick for busy families. The fried chicken was tasty with a slight hint of herbs and it did not have that greasy after taste commonly found with this type of food. The Rotisserie chicken also does not disappoint and you can't go wrong with either choice. Come early for the best selection as they do sell out quickly. *There is a seating area where you can enjoy your food near the cash registers. The Florist: This department is near the entrance it has a beautiful display of flowers that make the space feel more appealing. The Bakery: Here you can find your mainstays but the department also offers artisanal breads. The cakes and pastries are always a joy to look and temp you every time you pass by. My personal favorite is the Red Velvet Cake. The Seafood Department: The selection of wild caught and farm-raised seafood is well stocked and priced fairly. The $14.99 per pound for live lobster is competitive when looking at their competition. If you are squeamish about boiling a lobster yourself, you can always ask the nice clerk to do it for you. Ethnic Foods: The Hispanic food section offers more variety than their competition who usually stocks salsa and chips in this category (I'm looking at you Harris Teeter) so big kudos go to Lowes Foods for realizing that Latin-American cuisine is more than those two items. However, it is still not satisfactory for my culinary needs. For better selection of Hispanic foods you will need to find a Compare store near you. The Asian section is also find with a nice selection, albeit not as great as an Asian food store, but again better than their competition. There are not just ready to microwave items, but also things that you could use to cook from scratch. The Wine/Beer Section: For the winos and beer snobs out there this place is going to be your favorite place in the store. Do you like? Local craft beers (Check!) Tried and true beers (Check!) Non-Alcoholic (Check!) Single-serve wines (Check!) Domestic Red/White wines (Check!) Bubbles - Moet and Veuve Clicquot (Check! Check!) Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, & Pinot Gris (Check! Check! Check!) *For those of you wanting to be in and out for your next frat party don't go too late because the self-checkout registers are closed sometime around 9:00pm and you will have to wait in line with us plebeians. This is a new trend that I have noticed in other supermarket chains as well. Overall, this store has pretty much everything that you could possibly need to do your weekly shopping. Some items are priced less expensively than Harris Teeter and while others are not, if you are aware of prices you won't overpay. Overall its prices are below Harris Teeter and other up-scale supermarkets, albeit higher than Wal-Mart. It lays somewhere in the middle. Lowes Foods is repositioning themselves and trying to carve out a niche in the market seems to have worked as this store is often buzzing with activity. read more

Their selection isn't as good as Harris Teeter nor are their prices as good as Food Lion but they are taking the Covid pandemic way more seriously than any other grocer I've been to in the Triangle except for Weaver St Market. Social distancing enforced, sanitizer around abundantly, have someone cleaning carts all day and most importantly you have to wear a mask to shop there. Even though it's a bit in shambles aesthetically as they are remodeling right now it's the only 'normal' grocer I'll patronize these days. read more

A tale of 2 stories. A couple of weeks ago when electricity went out due to Hurricane Ian, I went in the morning for coffee. I was very pleased to find out that the beer den has coffee and was being managed by the friendliest person who was very helpful. Fast forward to this afternoon, and in attempting to ask the person managing the Beer Den a very simple question about the beer on the shelves and waiting a couple of minutes for him to notice me (there was only 1 other person in the area), he comes in my direction and before I can say a word, the shuts me down with a "I'll be with you in a minute". This guy clearly had other priorities that did not include customer service. read more

I tried to go on line to comment about your TRYDAYNIGHT, and the site was dead so unable to comment, so I will here. I thought it was great , my favorite and I bought were the white chocolate cranberry cookies, outstanding. I also want to comment on the wonderful smiling faces I see there all the time and a 'special" shout out to Bob in the beer den....a great service indeed!!!. Moving from Charlotte it is great to see local friendly faces who after a trip or two get to know you. Management is "always " present and it is obvious. Very good neighborhood grocery. I like it much better than the Harris Teeter down the street, their Mango Salsa and Guacamole from the produce section is made in the store and it is excellent. I also like the new Beer Den. They are innovative and are promoting local products. It has come along way. It is worth retrying if you have not been there in the last couple years. read more

I wish that I could give this store negative stars for their negative customer service. I was in the Chapel Hill store, number 167 on November 17 having a beer at the beer den with my manager when a very intoxicated customer approached us and says " I like to pull ponytails " and proceeds to pull my hair. My manager and myself were shocked and offended and told the man to go away. He tried to give us $5 and for the last time we sternly told him to go away and he finally did. We called over Vicki who was working in the beer den and who had over served the guy and should have cut him off much earlier and we asked to speak with the manager on duty. My manager asked for Chris who is one of the managers there and Vicki asked if we meant "Black Chris" and my manager said whichever Chris is the store manager. Chris finally arrived after taking longer than we would have liked and he started speaking with my manager, a white man and he didn't acknowledged myself, a black man, at all until I spoke to him. My manager told him what happened and I gave him additional details and we told him that the guy needed to be asked to leave if he's still in the store. Chris said that he will speak with him, I asked if he was going to trespass the guy and he said that his hands were tied and if I wanted to press charges since he assaulted me then they would take it from there. He said that he was going to look for him and speak with him and I told him that I wanted to observe this. He said that wouldn't be necessary because he would speak with him in private and me being there would be a problem. I told him that I was going to observe because I didn't trust him to follow through on that. He gets hostile and rude and says something that I couldn't clearly hear. As I go looking for the guy, Chris goes to my manager and angrily tells him that he doesn't need me to tell him what to do. I didn't tell him what to do, I stated what I was going to do which I was well within my right to do in a public space especially after being assaulted, but he didn't view me as a victim at all. After all of this we discovered that the guy had left and we felt like Chris and not "Black Chris" as Vicki referred to the other manager who wasn't even present and Vicki herself allowed the guy to leave because he was a regular which Vicki told Chris as they tried to appear like they were going to do their jobs while in actuality they allowed him to leave after assaulting a customer. Since the regular customer was a white man and the victim was a black man, they chose to be complicit with the white regular. Chris was more angry than myself, talking back to me very rudely, showing a lack of sympathy and to be quite honest he has to be the worst manager that I've ever encountered and he's completely inept at the position. I would feel the same way even if it happened to someone other than myself. I feel that Chris and Vicki are racists as they disgustingly downplayed and didn't care about what happened to me. The extra said part is that I used to be employed at another Lowe's Foods for over 7 years and this recent treatment of myself probably ruined my view of Lowes Foods forever. Both Chris and Vicki need to be fired and the whole store needs antiracism training. I feel sorry for the BIPOC customers and employees/hosts, in particular the black employees because there will come a time when their safety will be in jeopardy and I feel like management there wouldn't care despite how hard they work for their managers. Please think of the customers and the community as a whole and terminate these two for displaying pure rudeness, awful customer service and overt racism. read more

Lowes offers both amazing fresh produce and a warm dedicated staff. Lowes employees have gone the extra mile for me many times. I do most of my shopping there. However for fairtrade coffee and chocolate I need to stop by Weaver Street. read more
