One Star is Too Generous -- A Year-Long Nightmare with Lowe's Patio Door Installation If you're thinking of using Lowe's for patio door installation, run in the other direction. What should've been a simple project turned into a year-long disaster filled with incompetence, miscommunication, and total lack of accountability. It took over 12 months, 100+ emails, and dozens of phone calls to finally get the job barely finished. The original installation was botched. No one followed up. Every time I called, I was passed around like a hot potato between departments that had no idea what was going on. They promised callbacks that never came. They scheduled visits that were never confirmed or simply didn't happen. I had to chase them down constantly just to get basic updates. What's worse? Absolutely no compensation for the countless hours I wasted, the stress, or the inconvenience of having a wrecked install, allowing elements inside, losing heat/AC and being an eyesore in my home for months. They damaged my walls, used high expansion foam and smeared the trim and new door itself, used a 2x4 to cover up the hole above the door because the door was measured wrong- that 2x4 eventually fell and almost struck me coming in the house. Lowe's did nothing to make it right on their own accord. Zero accountability. Zero urgency. Zero customer service. I had to fight and claw my way to get the slowest of responses. Every phone call was a shouting match, every email was condescending and had no concrete answers. It took over 14 months to get the situation fixed, they originally wanted to refund me and call it even. EVEN? the door needed to be replaced after the poor install job and it wasn't the right size! They wanted to get rid of me at no cost to them. They eventually fixed it 14months later and they offered me $150 for my trouble. $150 for 14months of headache and heating and cooling bills that were out of control due to the air gaps and energy loss. That compensation of $150 came out to $10 for every month I had to deal with the door and them. UNREAL. Bottom line: They originally said they would fix the wall and then they realized it was too much work and took back their offer to fix it. I would never recommend Lowe's installation services to anyone. Save yourself the stress. Go literally anywhere else. The safety of a big box company being reputable is a myth, the bigger the store the less they care about a single customer's issue. read more

Item was delivered to me by a very unprofessional company that Lowe's sends out. Mendozas delivery. (872) 463-3041 The item was suppose to be delivered inside the property, spoke to customer service at the store and they verified this information to me as well. Turns out after a lot of back and forth this is false. The company they sent out as stated above, was unprofessional and complained about the items weight and that I as the consumer should purchase lighter items to make their job easier. They also left the item outside its original packaging in my back yard. I called Lowe's to notify them immediately and never heard back from them. Prior to this unsatisfactory delivery, I had purchased the same item a month ago which they failed to notify me that they had received the wrong item. Therefore I had to cancel and repurchase the same item. Instead of providing me this information, they kept rescheduling the delivery for 3 whole weeks. If I had not reached out to them they would have still been rescheduling me. Mind you, I kept taking time off work for each rescheduled date and no notification or call that I was going to be rescheduled. If you as a consumer are planning on purchasing an item, that will be heavy, don't purchase from Lowe's. Purchase from a different store that values their customers and won't give out false information about indoor deliveries. I stopped at Lowe's on 7971 South Cicero today to pick up a can of flex seal. As I was walking in toward the back I saw Nicole one of Lowe's store manager. Lowe's on 79th south Cicero installed 11 Pella windows a Steel entry door and 4 faux wood blinds for me over the years and all purchases was made through Nicole the store manager and her staff. Nicole and her staff are a 5 star professional group. The showed me several styles, colors and prices to meet my budget and needs. They were very informative, polite, courteous and patience why I was trying to make my mind up with the purchases and what I can afford. Every time Nicole or her staff see me in the store they always say hi. I had purchased items and products from Home Depot, Menards, Ace Hardware etc and no one tops Lowe's on 79th South Cicero. I will purchase more products at the Lowe's because of the outstanding professional customer service I have received from Nicole and the staff. We were shopping BBQ Grills for the Memorial Day Weekend. Lowe's had the best price and we proceeded into the store. While looking at several grills, we were approached by Raquel to see if we need any assistance (which seems to be Lowe's standard - rare these days). Raquel was most helpful offering a pre-built grill that was outside on display. We preferred a brand new, in the box. She offered to have it set-up for us but it may take awhile. We decided on taking it ourselves. She was able to get one from stock and brought it up to the front counter. Raquel was most helpful and pleasant, she is quite an asset to your store. Never open a credit card with Lowes. I always paid ontime and never missed a payment. I added my husband as an authorized user and they ended up closing my account due to credit report. They used my authorized users info instead of mine. I tried to call and speak with them and of course they said they didn't make a mistake even though I have everything to send them to prove they did. It isn't even legal to use someone's info other than the account holder. I was a great customer and used my card all the time. They will not re open my account and said I can re apply however I can't even do that since I would have to pay off the account they closed first. Me and my family members will not be using Lowes. They also said due to it being a credit issue even though it wasn't mine we can't file a BBB but I did call and BBB said I can file a complaint regarding false information just not credit so I filed against them using false information. I offered to send them my info and my husband's but they refused. When I told the supervisor everything and how disappointing etc I was told "good luck with that" I would not recommend opening credit card, adding an authorized user, the interest rates they charge on purchases are more than the min monthly due as well. read more

Lowe's seems to be one of those big-box stores that you either love or hate ... and I guess it is just the customer service of a place that tells. We liked this Chicago-area Lowe's just fine. The staff was nice and very helpful, from the floor manager cleaning up stock in the tools area, to the forklift and assistant outside who helped us load up. All attentive and knowledgeable. We visited during the 25 hour black-out that occurred in some of the south suburbs ... and of course we were looking for a generator. This Lowe's had it so we drove in to the city. That had what they said they did, it was priced fairly, and they got us in an out in no time. When I can't find what I want at my neighborhood Lowe's, I just may drive in here because I liked the experience. It was busy but managed nicely. We'll be back. read more

I got my door measured here and I was unable to immediately come in and pick out a door. I came in a couple months later to pick out my door and they told me that I would need to pay a fee to have them come back again and measure the same door. This Lowe's does not deserve its low rating. I've had plenty of less than stellar experiences at Home Depot's and Menards in the past, I never really went to Lowe's just because those other places are closer. However when my refrigerator died in the middle of Covid19 summertime, this locations staff saved the day. Within 3 hours they helped us find a fridge, rent a truck ($30 in total!) get it up and running with no issues whatsoever. Honestly every member of the staff, even the young ones, were courteous and helpful. Especially Pete who was a perfect gentlemen the whole time, he helped us get our fridge and he didn't even work in appliance he just saw his coworker getting backed up with customers and came to help. Now I drive all the way to the Lowe's on 79th & Cicero because the people are so nice and so professional and so helpful and they put a smile on my face every time. A hello every time I walk in the store. Someone always asks if I need help. I never have to go hunt someone down. Quick, friendly service. Always ask if I need help out to my car. Always a "have a nice day" as I leave. And everything I need is always in stock, the pick up service is fast and friendly. And there's always a manager around doing management things. If I could give less than zero , I would. We found a toilet special ordered and never picked up from the store. It was marked down from the full retail price. We purchased the toilet from Lowe's and paid to have it installed. A couple days later, the installer called and arranged to install it Friday evening between 4 and 7 pm. We thought it odd but we wanted the job done. At about 7:00, the installer arrived in his automobile, our toilet unboxed in his backseat. He removed the old toilet and placed in my UNPROTECTED bathtub. He put the new toilet on the sewer opening without a wax ring!! He "finished " came out of the bathroom and said he was missing parts and could not complete the install. He left us with an unusable bathroom telling me I would have to contact Lowe's for the parts. LOWE'S management will not correct this mess. I spoke with Daydrin and Jessica. "Our policy is not to install returns" (wish I knew before they took my toilet off!!) They will not complete the install; they are only offering to take the toilet away. I have contacted Kohler and ordered the parts myself. Sales associates including management possess little to no knowledge of store policies and procedures. They could not produce a receipt for the haul away of the old appliance. I purchased a refrigerator with free delivery. After discovering I needed removal of the old appliance. I returned hours later to make that revision to my order. There were three associates who could not perform this simple task. I was being charged delivery and haul away. Well I decided to cancel the complete order when no one could produce a receipt for the refrigerator, haul away and minus delivery. Michael from this store called me and finally explained after repeating myself several times that I was dealing with three different departments within Lowe's regarding one transaction and my refund. I am without a refrigerator because $900 is in limbo. Why couldn't someone void the transaction the same day I purchased and canceled this transaction!!!!? Oh how I love home depot. Lowe's keeps disappointing me every single time I go to any location in any neighborhood. The lack of customer service is appalling in this day and age. Every single time I go to a Lowe's I lose a few hairs and I gain a few gray hairs. Today for example the line to return something was very long and not very helpful. Then I had questions on the interior doors they had it took about 15 minutes until I had to go up again and request for help. Lastly there was not one single cashier open. Only self checkout. I purchased a fence back in April. The sales guy was very nice, knowledge, and straight forward. I decided to go with Lowe's after speaking with at least half a dozen companies because of this even though I received other quotes in the same price range. Pretty much immediately after I signed the contract, the level of customer service dropped off severely. I was told I would hear back within a few weeks to confirm that the permit was received and then we could move forward with scheduling an instillation date. I was told by sales that they should be able to lock down a date very quickly as they didn't have any product shortage. 2-3 weeks pass and I haven't received a call so I reached out to the instillation team to get an update however I was told they were still waiting on the permit. I called a week later and was told the same thing. A week after that, I called my village who confirmed that the permit was picked up over 2 weeks ago. I called instillation again and they finally say they have the permit on file and we schedule 6/8/21 for instillation with products being dropped off the day before (a little later than I hoped but assumed they were just backed up given the season). Today (6/7/21) I got a call from the fencing company (Premier Fencing) to confirm that I received the material and I was good to go with instillation. I informed them that I had not received the material and was told I would get a call from the store about the time of day to drop everything off. because I had not yet received this call, I was told to contact the instillation team. I do so and I get put on hold as instillation called the specific store for clarification. I was then told that June 8th was just a tentative date (this was never once mentioned as a tentative date and I had confirmed the date multiple times with instillation and Premier Fencing) and that the official date was the 18th. I then became the middle man and had to intermediate between instillation, the store, and premier fencing and was only given the explanation that someone must have manually changed the delivery date to the 18th even though Premier Fencing said they still show on their end that it showed the 7th (and they stated they have a shared system). After speaking to a minimum of 6 people I rescheduled delivery for June 29th and instillation for June 30th. I was also told to make sure to follow up if I don't get a call by the 28th to confirm delivery... right.... Hopefully the fence comes and it is of high quality however given the incredibly poor customer service I have received as soon as the contract was signed, will make it impossible for me to recommend Lowe's to anyone for such a project. read more

I am ONLY giving one start because I have to in order to post. They deserve zero stars. Their fence installation is a a huge scam! We had an installer (Joseph Lussa) come out in May 2021 to give an estimate to have a fence installed. He emails us our estimate 1 week later and told us we needed to respond and pay within 3 days to lock in our price.(since the cost of wood was rising) This was in May of 2021, we have now entered into October, 5 months later. I still do not have a fence. In fact, I haven't heard from a single person! I have texted, called and emailed the person that came out and gave an estimate. Nothing, no return calls, texts or emails. I have called Lowe's numerous times, left several messages. Nothing, no response to anything. I did receive an email from a Jason Schilling on 7/27/2021 asking us for a Plat of Survey for our property. Which means, Lowe's had not even applied for a permit yet! Not only did they not applied for a permit, but the plat of Survey that was given to the estimator by us, was lost? Jason Schilling then emails 3 days later and stated he found the play of survey. Weird and yet convenient for him. He stated he was in the hospital and that is why it has taken so long. Is he the only installer @ Lowe's? Does no one cover him while he is out? Here we are, another month has past and still nothing! I did receive a call from a company that wanted to drop off our wood on my front lawn. We did refuse that seeing as Lowe's clearly does not have a plan as to when my fence will be installed. And I have no interest in having wood sitting in my driveway or on my lawn. I paid for a fence and installation. Lowe's is certainly not paying me for storage. I contacted the Western Springs village to see if a permit was even applied for. The permit was applied for on 8/9/2021. It was approved on 8/18/2021. It was paid for by a Jose Cervantes of Premier Fence on 9/1/2021. And yet, as of today I have heard nothing and still do not have a fence. I finally contacted Lowe's CC to dispute the charge. Why would I pay for something I do not have. And still, no call from anyone. I did get another contract emailed to me for my signature to start this process all over. That was almost laughable. The new contract has new dates, so Lowe's would look like they installed in a timely fashion I suppose. Do NOT do business with them. He said I would get a call on Saturday to schedule an estimate. No call on Saturday. I called back on Monday and left my information for Michael to call me back. He never did. So I called today Tuesday 4/13. I had the most horrible customer service experience on the phone just trying to reach Michael. Tossed around from department to department only to be disconnected not once but three times. I asked to speak to the manager but he also didn't take the call but connected me finally to Michael. I'm completely annoyed by my experience thus far. Michael who has zero people skills can't listen to my complaint about my 40 plus minutes on the phone and disconnected the call. If you record calls. I'd take a listen to these calls. It would be a valuable training tool on what not to do to your customers on the phone. No communication fro more than a week, finally I called and they promised the next day. Someone was to call to set a delivery window. I get a text message before 7 am saying they would be there in 15 minutes. I wasn't sure what department I needed so I had the operator transfer me to the right department when I explained the part to her. I told the guy in the department the generic term of what I was looking for, a double gang low voltage plate and he found it, told me the price, which aisle, and what color the box was. I really wish I could like this place because Home Depot doesn't exactly excel in the customer service department and Mendard's isn't bad just a little cheap when it comes to certain merchandise. So we came here looking for patio furniture because Home Depot and Menard's didn't have what we were looking for. We did find a nice patio set and the salesperson was nice enough to help us with some additional items we needed for their upkeep. We made our purchase and scheduled the furniture to be delivered & assembled in a few days. But that's where the "great" customer service ended. I had to take the day off from work on the delivery day because they don't do evening deliveries. And that was okay because I figure this is a big deal after all. But when the furniture arrived, the delivery guys were nice but told us assembling the furniture wasn't included in the delivery and said Lowe's lied to us. But, they still helped assemble it anyway and that's when we found out one of legs on the conversation chair was bent in half. We complained to the delivery guys about this and they said to call Lowe's and have them delivery me a replacement. So I called Lowe's and explained everything to them. At first they asked why the delivery guys didn't return the damaged furniture. Really. After being put on hold for almost a half hour, I finally got to speak to the manager, Jose, who was rude. He didn't apologize at all nor offered any credit for having to replace said chair. The only thing he offered me was to replace it which would mean I'd have to take another day off work. When I explained this to him he said that was my problem. This is really unfortunate, because I felt up until the point that we bought the furniture, Lowe's would become my new Go To place for buying all my home improvement needs. But not so. This Lowes is so great! I really love doing shopping here. The customer service here was exceptional. They are extremely nice, helpful, and caring. They really know how to assist and guide their customers in right way. Very welcoming staff and also customer service is top notch. This place is so clean, nice, huge, and so bright. You can clearly see all the things greatly aligned at display racks. They also have signs so you can easily find the area or department where you can find the things you need. You can freely walk and tour yourself around the store. You will also notice that the place has good ambiance, you will feel the vibe inside, and you will definitely love smell spreading around the place because of their pastries and other produce. This Lowes is an excellent store. You can also find some great deals here, like promos, discounts, and even sale items. They usually give the customers a way to save a lot of money. Very convenient and awesome place. No wonder why a lot of people really loves them and keeps coming back and shop at their place. They are so great and they do their job in such a professional way. They have really affordable Windows! But they do not know how to measure correctly or order. Out of 8 Windows only 1 fit correctly. Then they rigged the rest to fit in with big pieces of wood & fillers. It was awful. I had to request they come back out an replace them. They were not even honest about the mistake. Also they play the blame game & lowes is saying their not responsible for the window installers. Boy I don't remember signing that waiver. So I paid so professional Windows and feel think I called a Jo Smo from the neighborhood. This is been going on since January. I won't even get new Windows again till may . It's Junk garbage . Bought a house, flipper, he did things pretty cheaply. We just could not get the hot water heater to work, and it was brand new. I looked it up online, saw that it's a piece of crap that people continuous sink money into plus GE's help line was no help at all, so we opted to sink whatever repair money into getting a new one. Our bad: it was a Sunday, but we knew going in what we were getting into. We had no choice though. Only store we could find a well rated hot water heater in stock with someone who could install it same day, so that's why we went. The sales guy was very nice, very helpful. The sweetheart said well, since we're here let's get a lawnmower too. Ok fine. The sales guy there was super nice and helpful too. Even the checkout girl was very nice. Overall, I'm not a huge Lowes lover (it's like a home improvement center extra-lite), just a personal choice, but we had a good experience here. The bad: the installation guy. Yes it was a Sunday, yes we paid nearly as much as the heater to have it installed (ugh), yes it was stupid hot out. He showed up and while I kept the dog at bay, the hubs dealt with the guy who appeared to be very very grumpy. The guy said he couldn't find street parking, could he park in front of our garage in the alley. Sure, why not, everyone else does it up and down the alley. On the plus side, he got the job done in a speedy manner, maybe 45 minutes tops. But every time I looked out the window and saw him, he was pissy. My hubs even said he was pretty grumpy. So, the guy is leaving and says hey wait, I got a $150 ticket for parking in the alley, um....help me out? My sweets was a tad confused as no one in our alley ever gets a ticket and some folks park out there all day, so he said um, take the old water heater with you. Thankfully he didn't give the guy cash as, upon reflection, we both think he was trying to pull a fast scam for some extra pocket money. The store called a bajillion times to see how happy we were with our purchase, blah blah. We always missed their calls and we didn't have a chance to call back. But, I wish they hadn't called as many times as they did -- it was annoying.
