I had to push a big flatbed trolley of 6 bags of soil and 6 big pots of plants through the narrow walkway from garden center to main check-out line to pay. But at the checkout, I was greeted by Julia the friendliest cashier with a big smile. She is the reason why I gave 2 extra stars despite the inconvenience of the locked garden center gate situation! I recently visited this Lowe's for some yard project supplies, and while it wasn't a terrible experience, it definitely had some frustrating aspects worth pointing out. This is especially true if you're planning a visit or relying on product reviews. First, the store was reasonably clean, and we managed to grab a cart that was in good shape (not one of those decades-old, squeaky, impossible-to-push types), which I appreciated. The hardscaping section was a bit of a letdown. They didn't have nearly as many options as I was hoping for, but I still ended up purchasing a few things to test at home, including a huge plant, several pots, and a bunch of miscellaneous items. Our cart was overflowing by the time we reached checkout. The checkout process itself needs serious improvement. Aside from the contractor desk, it's basically all self-checkout, which is usually my preference. But if you're buying anything without a visible barcode, like loose stones or landscaping rock, it quickly becomes a hassle. The rocks weren't marked, and I hadn't taken photos of the barcodes for every sample. I scanned the ones I had photographed and searched the Lowe's website for the rest. An employee passed by and said she'd be back to help after assisting someone else. We managed to figure most of it out on our own, and eventually, another employee helped us with the final rock that we couldn't identify. Here's the deal: if Lowe's wants to push self-checkout (which is fine), they really need to provide customers with the same item lookup book that employees use. Expecting people to self-checkout without giving them the tools to look up unmarked items is just a bad system. From now on, I'll be photographing every barcode before heading to the register. That's my hot tip for you. While I was there, I also found a hose reel I wanted to buy. It was the Style Selections steel 100 ft container hose reel. I looked it up on Lowe's website and saw that it had great reviews. I noticed there was also a 125 ft version with similarly glowing reviews. Since my cart was full and I'd injured my back the day before, I figured I'd just order it online and have it delivered. Once I got home and looked at the reviews more carefully, I realized almost all of them are incentivized. Many were written through influenster.com or started with some variation of, "I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review." Lowe's also has its own program called the "Lowe's Incentivized Reviewer Program." This program offers customers a Lowe's e-gift card for posting reviews for items they have previously purchased. These are marked with a little "Loop" icon. The problem is, when hundreds of reviews for a product are incentivized, the entire system becomes meaningless. These aren't like Yelp reviews, where people volunteer their time to provide honest, unpaid feedback. These reviews are made in exchange for some kind of benefit. To get an actual sense of what customers genuinely think, you'd have to manually sift through the entire list and sort out the non-incentivized ones--maybe even create a spreadsheet. It's absurd. Lastly, while I didn't have too much trouble scanning everything myself, I can't imagine how difficult it would be for someone who is elderly or has a disability. Some of the items are large, heavy, or awkward to handle. There was only one employee overseeing multiple checkout stations, and she was elderly herself. My mom, for instance, would've just given up and walked out. Even if most people prefer self-checkout these days, the store should still have at least one or two full-service lanes available for customers who need extra help--whether due to physical limitations or just having a cart full of difficult items. All in all, I don't hate Lowe's--and I'll probably be back out of necessity--but they could make some easy improvements that would go a long way. Better checkout support, honest product reviews, and more customer-friendly policies would make this location a lot more pleasant to shop at. read more

Do not apply for a Lowe's credit card here. The cashier who helped me apply for the credit card discretely enrolled me in Payment Security where every dollar you spent, there is a fee. I have contacted the credit card company to dispute the fee and they told me this charge is not qualified to dispute. If I could give the company zero, I would. When Lowe's opened they had staffing in every department. In the last several years, they have eliminated staffing in their departments. I sold furniture for 30 years and from a phone call from a representative in Mexico, I followed up with sending them photos and pricing and they travelled to Houston and I sold them $670,000 of furniture delivered and shipped with no problems. That's what sales staff do sell. Yesterday, we went there to purchase an appliance and no one was there. Finally, a salesperson came over who knew us and took care of us. We purchased the item and set up delivery today and waited and waited until we called and found out that they are delivering it Sunday. No phone calls from anyone, if we hadn't called we'd be sitting till 8 p.m. I have a daughter who is at a rehab center that I visit everyday and after finding out they weren't coming at 5 pm, I left to visit her. Without salespeople products don't get sold. There is no one kitchen cabinets, doors and window etc. Customer service should be their priority. read more

Lowe's used to be our go to for home improvement. We recently scheduled both window replacement measurement and new carpet measurement and was planning to replace wood flooring, tile, kitchen/bath remodel, plantation shutters etc. Roy Poncio, was successful in his customer service skills as a Lowe's associate to ruin our experience. While he was successful in setting a day and time, which was supposed to be on a Thursday @ 4:15 pm. On that Thursday morning, he called my cell at 9:00 am (3X) while I was on a business call/meeting to confirm a 4:15 appointment. When I couldn't pick up on the 3rd call at 9:20 am, I texted him telling him that I could not pick up the call because I was on a business call; and that my text confirmed the time. He texted back saying that if I didn't respond to call that my appointment would be cancelled. I again texted him explaining that I could not pick up or make a call because I was on a business call. At 9:23 am, Roy sent an email saying my 4:15 appointment was cancelled. Once my business call ended, I call Roy immediately to inquire why he would cancel a 4:15 appointment at 9:23 simply because I said I couldn't answer at that time. Roy's attitude and customer service skills are laughable, he cut me off telling me that he had actually tried calling me the day before (which he hadn't) he acknowledged that he cut me off (audibly laughing at that fact); but was indifferent about putting the appointment back at 4:15 pm that day. He didn't seem to actually care how much work and money we were willing to spend with this store. However, he was more than accommodating me in providing with the name of the general manager (Irving) and associate manager, Yolanda. This sent me into a 3 hour journey through Lowe's phone tree process and no less than 10 times calling and getting hung up on with trying to get Yolanda on the line. I was successful in finally getting Yolanda on the phone, explained the situation (Roy had already informed her of our exchange and shared my text) and reiterated the plan of our spend with Lowe's; Yolanda did listen and shared that she would try to get the 4:15 appointment rescheduled (we were not interested in having Roy in our home to measure for those windows however) and that I would get a call back. That was Thursday, November 20th...it is now Monday, November 24th and still no phone call back; at minimum. We did go ahead and keep our carpet measurement/estimate on Friday, November 21st; but have now decided to not go through with the replacement from Lowe's after this unfortunate experience. We will go with another big box home improvement retailer or other remodel providers who are interested in taking care of their customers. When I asked for help the person assigned to that section did not come. I was also looking to purchase paint and it took about 10 minutes for me to find someone to help me even after pushing the help call button and alarming the whole entire store. Love the grill, i knew they were good because i'd had one before and it lasted 10 years and it was still working when i gave it away. They don't have flare ups so absent minded people don't burn their houses down. They assemble these and deliver them free of charge, that may be just this time of year....kudos! We started at another store because their web page said they had some, when we got there we were told they'd been sent to another store back the other way. We showed up at this store and had a really hard time getting much help. There was one lady behind the help/returns desk that was a lot of help, we told her someone was supposed to be looking for the grill we wanted....nope....she hollered at another guy that was helpful and he told us it was assembled and would be delivered on Saturday between 10 am and 2 pm. It did show up but not until 3 ish. Working retail during the holidays has got to be a madhouse, then you add in a pandemic......my hat is off to these people...except for the ones that weren't much help....you know who you are....you need a job where you don't deal with john q. public. Thought I'd give an updated review since it's been several years. Yes, Lowe's is still my go to store. Every time I walk into the lumber side entrance I'm greeted with a good morning. Like one posting said, the employees on the other side aren't as friendly for whatever reason. If I can't find what I'm looking for I have no problem finding someone. Needless to say, weekends can be busy so this might not be the experience for everyone on these days. I've seen some people give employees a hard time and complain simply because Lowe's was out of a certain product. Geez, it's not his fault. I find this Lowe's does their best to help customers. They even helped my wife look for an item even though she didn't ask for help. Two weeks ago, I went to the paint department to get a quart of paint to match my daughter's rent house wall color. The wall paint was rather old so I wasn't expecting a perfect match. The guy at the paint counter was able to tell the shade of the old paint and mixed up a perfectly matched color. I've asked for advice with projects and was able to get some ideas from employees as well. At times, the employees doing returns lack the attitude for customer service. However, the other department employees are helpful. When I say this, I'm talking about the tools, paint, key making, doors, and appliance departments. I never had issues with these guys. The lumber section is a hit or miss with helpful employees. Based on some of the Yelp reviews, I guess it depends on who you talk to when getting help. If I can't get it from this Lowe's store or an Ace store I'll order it online. If Home Depot was the only store selling wooden states to kill a vampire I'd take my chances with the vampire before going into the Home Depot across the freeway. :) read more

Ah yes, the never ending debate of which is the better Home Improvement store, Home Depot vs. Lowe's. Both have locations in Sugar Land (Lowe's is closer to my house by proximity). My answer is depends on what you are shopping for. I am more of an outdoors person when it comes to home improvement projects (means gardening, trees, flowers) rather than indoors (kitchen and bathroom plumbing updates). So when I visited both locations, I noticed that if I am going to shop for the garden, I would always go to Lowe's because they have a much more expansive and better laid out gardening center than the Home Depot (on Highway 59/Williams Trace), and I can almost always find someone to ask a question about where things might be if I need to. Most of them are also knowledgeable about the plants I might be looking for and can provide sound advices or recommendations. Can't say the same for the HD location on Highway 6 N close to Old Richmond Rd (even though the garden center in that location is bigger, I can circle the center two or three times and not find a single employee (aside from the cashiers by the entrance) for help). However, if shopping for inside the home stuff, Home Depot may be a better choice. Just from my most recent personal experience. Home Depot have much great selection when it comes to lightbulbs than Lowe's. Where there is maybe 10-15 types of LED lightbulbs in HD, Lowe's will only have 2-3 types. For toilet handle replacements, HD has generally 2-3 more selections and would have ones that comes in either plastic or metal, whereas Lowe's only has ones that comes in plastic. So if I am shopping for Gardening supplies (plants, fertilizers, soil, mulch, etc.) I would choose Lowe's, if I am having to fix something inside the home, Home Depot. Lowe's will probably have a slight advantage in my mind, because it's closer and I like gardening more than plumbing. read more

I have always been able to find what I need at Lowes. I buy my boxes for my online business shipments here, and they usually have them in stock. Sometimes they don't I have learned that it is sometimes better to call and verify they have what you are looking for before showing up and then finding out. Don't waste your gas considering how high gas prices are now LOL. They need more customer reps on the floor helping customers find isles that have the things they are looking for. Checkout is slow sometimes but you just need to be patient. Returning items is easy and usually pretty quick. The in-store staff is friendly, if a bit slow to get things done, but the follow up is just terrible. We purchased a ceiling fan from this location and paid $35 for their installation team to come out. We were told that they would give us a call within two days. Two weeks later, we have not heard from the installation team. No one could help over the phone, so we had to go back to the store. Long story short, we still don't have the fan installed and they don't have a way of contacting their installation team on the weekends. We asked for what steps needed to be taken to make sure that we received a call first thing on Monday, but they couldn't give us any guarantees. He said that they could bypass the inspection part and charge me for just the basic install to speed up the process, but somehow his basic install came out to 60-something dollars more than the sign right next to him. He then tried to explain some of the additional charges, as if he didn't just outright lie to us moments earlier when he said he'd charge us the basic install price and the install team would have to absorb the remaining costs for not having gotten back to us. Long story short, we don't have the fan done and we're probably going to be waiting another week. I would not recommend buying anything from this store. read more

OK, this store really sucks. Not too long ago, I ordered shredded rubber mulch online to be picked up. I received notification after more than 2 hours that's it's ready but when I went to the store, it's not ready at all! The staff act like they couldn't care less. No apologies heard. It took them a while to find somebody to gather 10 sacks of mulch for me. Today, I gave this store another chance. I ordered online 13 sacks of different kind of soils but mostly in-ground soil since they are on sale. After over an hour, no notification yet. I called the store but phone just keeps on ringing and ringing. I was automatically transferred over and over again until someone who sounds drunk finally answered. She told me it's not ready yet and said "I don't know when it's gonna be ready, could be the next hour or so, or more. I don't know" Somebody in the background said something to her then she told me, "We actually ran out of those." I just hung up so frustrated. I checked online again and there's actually 300+ in the inventory! Now I'm not sure who's lying. Bottom line, this store has a bad system and the worst customer service! read more

All the staffs at different sections that i talked to are not very friendly and not very helpful in explanation about the products. I was very frustrated. When i came to the customer service section, i saw a customer fighting against the Lowes' staff there!!! In brief, they are terrible. I end up go to Home Depot nearby to buy my needs. NEVER NEVER BUY a WHIRLPOOL appliance from ANY company They send a service technician. He CANNOT repair the appliance. They say Need to get a SECOND opinion. But they say there is NO OTHER technician in your zip code to send out to give a SECOND Opinion. They suggest that YOU PAY another service technician to get the SECOND OPINION. SO We are STUCK with a $2,200 refrigerator that they will NOT fix and they WILL NOT give us a NEW REFRIGERATOR and will NOT give our MONEY back. This lowes sets the standard in customer service. The employees are very helpful. I bought 2 commodes that were had a price on them for $199 but when i got to the register they came up $219 the manger verified that the price i seen was $199 and sold them too me for that price. Updated review 21-Sept-2019: Never, never, never buy anything, I repeat ANYTHING, from this store. Had to buy 2 refrigerators to get 1 delivered. Took 3 weeks to get my money back from the 1st refrigerator that never got delivered. I urge all my family and friends and friends of family and friends to shop elsewhere. Customer Service is non-existent and management at this store is no help in getting issues resolved whatsoever (when you can actually get a manager involved that is). BUYER BEWARE!! I enjoy saying "I told you so", so ignore this review at your own peril. Customer service and follow up are non-existent at this store. They canceled three deliveries for a refrigerator I had already paid for due to incompetence in the delivery department. Trying to get a salesman from any of their departments on the phone is next to impossible. This is why I'll be a Home Depot customer from now on. read more

1st and last purchase from this store. Ordered stove, dishwasher, and stove vent. Upon installation, dishwasher had a dent in it. No I don't want a discount, replace it. Stove and vent delivered. Delivery says we don't set up vents. Installation was not even an option when I placed my ordered, referred to installation project line. She took all my information only to send me an email that service not available. Customer service can't even place an order for installation. Horrible. Did not deliver when scheduled. Refrigerator was dented. Was was damaged by tech. Tested washing machine with paperwork still in machine. Papers were plastered on machine drum. Lows promised to replace it the next day. No one showed up. Didn't call to reschedule. I'll call them again tomorrow. read more
