I came here on Friday after just getting into town for the weekend. My place was maybe 400 ft from here so it was an obvious choice for something walkable and quick. I enjoyed a chill pill drink and sat at the bar. It is the ground floor of a hotel/inn and easy to see and access. It wasn't too crowded but there were a few more people by the time I left around 1030. They have food too but I just had a nightcap. Service was good and friendly.

Three of us went during happy hour on a weeknight. Bartenders were great. Pimento cheese plate with jalapeño jelly was delicious, as were the waffle fries! Black Betty was an excellent cocktail choice. Would go again!

Came here on a Wednesday night after pickleball with a group of friends and was starving. They suggested Lowlife which I'd never been to but they all loved coming for casual drinks and apps. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and a friend ordered the mothers double cheeseburger. Waffle fries were crispy and well seasoned. The chicken sandwich was HUGE (and very good). Omg. I took off a piece of chicken because there was no way I could bite into it - plus now I have the saved chicken piece to make a sandwich today!! Service was quick and attentive, I'd definitely come back.

Friends and I needed a quick bite upon arriving in Folly Beach a bit late, and stumbled upon LowLife! They've got a variety of sandwiches along with some smaller plates. Crowd favorites were the chicken sandwich (which comes with TWO large patties!) and the Brussel sprouts. Was all solid though. Cocktails were very reasonably priced.

Given the name, you should not have high expectations. Terrific mix of locals & tourists. Fun all around. Staff genuinely wants people to be happy. Did not eat there so can't say

Great dog-friendly open-air bar with great cocktails, killer waffle fries, a little off the main drag and less touristy.

Very cute, busy but not too busy, casual dress, good good for groups of solo visit. We only tried the cheese dip thing which I didn't love but my friends did. Besides a guest putting their mini dog ON the bar, everything else was great. One of the bartenders politely asked them not to put their pet on a public bar and they obliged. Definitely worth checking out when you're in SC.

What I got: Erik Estrada frozen cocktail, Chips & Queso, Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Thai Chili Peppers. Thoughts: An excellent spot for appetizers and drinks. No notes! The Brussels sprouts were insanely good -- probably the best thing I've eaten this entire vacation. Would be more than happy to go back and sit inside to enjoy some of the live music.

    Crabcake & tuna poke. Yum!

Stopped here for lunch on a locals suggestion. Outside seating around bar with a couple of tables inside and out back. Looks like a five bar but the menu looks awesome. Started with some crafty cocktails with all homemade or home grown ingredients. Little sweet for my taste. Ordered crabcake and tuna poke and both were incredibly delish. Crabcake was advertised as a Md version and it was really really good says this guy from Baltimore. All lump and backfin and a huge serving on a toasted roll with spicy romulade sauce. Came with some seriously good and crispy waffle fries w homemade ketchup. A steal for the $18 lunch offering. Imho, this may be the 2nd best food spot in folly.

Classic dive bar. We had a good meal and it was a good time. Fun t-shirts, and kids at the table next to us were playing games.

Always a great experience- good people, food is fantastic, and the beer is cold. Love the indoor outdoor atmosphere and prompt service.

FYI: It is a private club, with membership at a $1 a year. As my wife and I drank a cold beer (this place is still cash only), an elderly gentleman politely walked up and asked if we were waiting on the band. As it was later in the afternoon and the band would not be starting for a number of hours, we explained that we were just coming back in for some nostalgia. Talk about nostalgia, we found out that the gentleman was Richard who was and is the owner of the place for many, many years. The number of times he said I do like to dance and would start moving quite well to the soul/ Hip Hop mix (which is unusual to be heard in the Sand Dollar). When I polightly asked his age, Richard said that he was 81. He stated that he had kept in shape over the years including by Iron Man triathlons. To see his thin body it was difficult to think of him as a triathlete but I did not ask him how long ago he had done a triathlon. Meeting Richard and buying a $15 t-shirt was quite a great experience. I always will return here. Trust me on that.

The crowds were behaving themselves, the breeze was cooperative, and the smiles behind the bar were as steady as the tide. Service? Quick. Attitude? Cheerful. Decor? Pure beach--with just enough kitsch to remind you that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. I especially loved the AI-generated "Old Folly Beach" photos. They had that sepia-toned, barefoot-in-the-sand charm that makes you nostalgic for a time you probably never lived through. Clever. Fun. Conversation starters. The food came out hot and well prepared--no excuses, no shortcuts, no "it's beach food, what did you expect?" nonsense. Just solid plates done right. Sometimes the best meals aren't about linen napkins or complicated sauces. Sometimes it's quick service, honest cooking, a few laughs, and the Atlantic doing background vocals.

The bar opened at 10am. Ordered drinks... our bar drinks arrived just before our food did. No, not very busy at this time of morning. We sat outside before the heat of the day forced us all inside. 2 other tables, one leaving moments after we arrived. The view was amazing though. My eggs were ordered as over medium- they were fried hard. I like a little seepage of yolk. No rock solid, but the wait... I was afraid to send my order back.
