Another year means another family vacation with my husband's family so that includes my MIL, FIL, SIL & her husband, and my BIL. This year, they chose to visit Charleston, SC because 1) my MIL hasn't been before and had just watched Ken Burns' 5-part, documentary on the American Revolution, and 2) because my FIL has seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and needs to be below the Mason Dixon Line for the winter. So we all converged on Charleston. The first dinner we had together was this place that was right across the street from the hotel we were staying at. I think my MIL wanted to find something that was easy and fast. When we went it wasn't that busy and we couldn't figure out why (although later, it got super busy at 10pm). I guess this place is more of a night town meaning it comes to life later in the night. We were 7 people but the restaurant had no trouble accommodating us and there was something on the menu for everyone. If you've read other reviews, it's hard to find places that we can all agree on that matches everyone's dietary needs. I convinced my MIL to share the Hot Honey pizza. Even though she has low spice tolerance, she said she enjoyed it. I think my FIL got a wrap, my husband got a burger, my BIL got a salad (i don't remember), and my SIL and her veganish husband got the pesto pizza. I say veganish because he tries to stick to a vegan diet but he does consume dairy products at times. And in the South, I guess finding fully vegan foods is really hard he was pretty much veganish the whole time. But everyone enjoyed their food with a minor complaint of something being really salty. Our waitress was also very friendly, very open and welcoming, and even gave her recommendations on where to visit and where to eat. I think this place has good food for a good price and it seems to be a popular place later on in the night. Quiet ambiance if you go earlier in the night if you want to avoid the crowd.

Perfectly fine touristy dive on King. The events there can be a lot of fun! Food is mid, drinks are good enough. The crowd can be pretty young.

We went here twice while we were in town. The first time was Wednesday night and it was super fun! No cover, line dancing downstairs. A large bar and a big upstairs with a bar and a rooftop patio. We went on a Friday night and it wasn't as fun, I would give it a 3 if we had just went on Friday. Cover was $20 which I think is really high. It was packed inside with a super young crowd. It was still kinda fun but def had a better time on Wednesday. Def a bar and wouldn't eat here!

It was as a young college crowd on a Sat night that was mixed in with bachelorette parties and a sprinkle of older folks like us. Cover was $5. The first floor there was a live act until 11:30 pm until another DJ showed up. Roof deck had a DJ and another DJ in another room on the second floor. It was fun to people watch and see how SC parties.

I love going to Uptown Social! The food is great, the drinks are great, everyone is super friendly and there's always something cool going on. I love how big this place is and the amount of DJs that can play at one time. The rooftop bar is super fun and there's always a load of people to connect with. They serve cannabis drinks for those staying away from alcohol and still looking for a social experience.

The food was decent, I do love a good chicken Parmesan sandwich so hit the spot. We were there for a bar call so our drink menu was limited, but for what we got it was really good. I initially got in there. They were playing all the different sports games so it's kind of loud but our waiters and bartenders were very helpful and quick with our food and drinks.

    Double Smash burger and fries

Amazing customer service from Julia and the food was amazing. Honestly the best burger I have had in a really long time. It was juicy, seasoned and all the ingredients were proportionate so you could taste every bit in each bite. The fries were hot, crispy, and generously dusted with seasoned salt, they were exactly what I expected. Overall it was a great experience. Not too crowded at 5:00 so the environment was really enjoyable.

Such a fun place. Different pockets to enjoy the atmosphere. The upstairs seemed more intimate and entertaining. Check this place out!

We started with the Moroccan meatballs, which were so good I forgot to even take a picture before digging in. I ordered the lamb burger with fries, and everything was cooked perfectly -- the burger was flavorful and juicy, and the fries were amazing too. My friend got the fried chicken and said it was the best he's ever had. I tried some myself, and the seasoning was incredible. My friend and I sat at our table for about 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I finally flagged down a waitress, who apologized and explained they were short staffed. She took our drink order, and then a different server came over later to take our food order. I ordered the Mediterranean wrap with no onions, but it came out with onions anyway. Our server was nowhere to be found, so I started picking around them and eating the wrap. A few minutes later, she came back with the corrected wrap, but by then I'd already started eating the first one. The flavors of the wrap were actually good, but the texture of the chicken was awful. It was so off putting that it honestly made me nauseous. I only managed a few bites before I was done, and no one ever asked if everything was okay or why I had barely touched my meal. That said, the restaurant itself is beautiful. The atmosphere is what really stands out. It feels like you're dining inside a church, and I believe it actually is a restored church. Between the stained glass, the artwork, and the writing on the walls, it's a really unique and impressive space. I'd probably come back for drinks because the bar looked like it had a great vibe, and the bartender seemed to be providing excellent service. Next time, I'd definitely sit at the bar, but I don't think I'd order the food again.

I know it sounds funny to rave about chicken nuggets, but these were honestly some of the best I've ever had. They reminded me so much of McDonald's chicken nuggets in the best possible way. I stayed for a drink and ended up getting treated to an incredible thunder and lightning show over the city. It wasn't even raining, which made it even cooler to watch from the rooftop. Between the amazing views, the friendly bartender who saved me from going to bed hungry, and unexpectedly fantastic chicken nuggets, this ended up being one of my favorite stops in Charleston. I'll definitely be back for another drink...and another order of chicken nuggets.

The roof top however gives off more of a college/dive bar vibe despite having a great view of the city. When we went on Monday only one bar, the downstairs one was open. Despite there being servers it didn't seem that anyone wanted to take tables so the solution was for guests to order drinks/food at the downstairs bar and bring it up to the deck themselves. While the bartender was nice, fast, and good at her job everyone else around her just didn't seem to care to provide service. The chips on the trio platter were beyond stale and since servers didn't care to serve the top deck tables were left unbussed and dirty. Not sure if this experience was a case of severe understaffing or just negligence on the management. I'd recommend going to literally any other rooftop bar for a more elevated experience where the staff actually wants to serve the guests.

From the moment I walked in, the vibe was intimate, beautiful, and the perfect setting for a relaxed Saturday night cap. What made the experience truly special was the bartender. There's no traditional menu, instead, he takes the time to learn what you like and crafts drinks based on your taste. I've never experienced anything like that before. The level of knowledge and creativity behind the bar was incredible. Every drink he made was stunning and tasted even better than it looked. I was honestly so impressed that I couldn't even remember all the ingredients he mentioned because I was too busy being amazed at how good everything was. It was one of those moments where you realize there are real levels to this craft. I walked in thinking I knew a thing or two about mixing drinks at home, and left with a whole new respect for the art of it. The atmosphere, the personal attention, and the quality of the cocktails made this place feel truly top tier. Huge shoutout to the bartender, easily a 15 out of 10. Cool, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he does. If you're looking for an intimate spot for date night or just want to experience thoughtfully crafted cocktails in a beautiful setting, the Annex is the place. I will absolutely be back as soon as possible.
