When Nate finally places the level marking tape on your seat post, you will know that your bike is properly fit to ride.

I like Nate. He is a good guy and fun to talk with. You don't mind paying him for his services because you will see that he works hard for his money. His fees are reasonable for the service he provides. I hate paying my doctor for spending 10 minutes with me. Nate spends a lot more time with you than most medical professionals ever have. And his services can help you from needing medical care from a poorly set up bike. Nate fits you on your bike the old fashioned way, based on his 20+ years of fitting experience, knowledge of body types, manufacture frame geometry, your flexibility, your goals, and your riding experience and his custom measurements. He can even take apart and rebuild a bike if he wants to make it fit right. Biking is his life, and when not fitting folks, he is coaching riders or riding himself. He is 110% cyclist. He doesn't use any fancy fitting computers other fitters learn in a crash weekend fitting course and they hang out a shingle. Companies that make those computers sell training and certifications generating a sea of fitting charlatans. Take away their computer and they would crash in a second. I shopped around before calling Nate more than a year ago for my first fitting and recently had a supplement fitting after changing my saddle and shoes and cleats. When you are considering bike fitters, ask yourself this key question: If you were offered a plane flight by 2 pilots, one who has more than 20 years of successful flying experience in all kind of planes and in all kinds of situations, OR a pilot who was trained on a flight simulator and has limited real world experience. Who are you going to fly with?

Best bike shop around... and they are dog friendly!…read more This Santa Monica bike shop is located on the corner of Broadway and 25th street with its own parking lot. It had a great selection of quality bicycles at reasonable prices. They stock Trek, Cannondale, Santa Cruz, Colnago, Pinarello and more in all types of bikes (road, hybrid, mtb, etc.). I was looking for a specific Trek Madone in a size small and this is the only local store that had it in stock. I called in advance to confirm its availability and set up a time to view the bike. I spoke with Monty. On the day of my visit, I met with Monty, took the bike for a spin, and took her home, along with a few other items (pedals, computer mount and water bottle cages). It was a smooth and easy transaction. Monty did the basic fitting and the guys in the service area installed all of the other items. The service area was busy with customers picking up and dropping off their bikes. Some even stopped in during their rides for a quick fix. Customer service was outstanding! Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful. If I could rate it higher, I would... Pedals (my dog) had a great time hanging out in the store. We will be back!

I was told to go to an Orbea dealer for service and that was Bike Attack in playa vista - they are a joke and have since closed down for good reason. At my local bike shop the main tech got fired after helping me get a replacement motor (not why he was fired) from Shimano. So i was on my own with this as it shut down yet again on a long ride- and didnt come back on. I decided to find another Shimano dealer for service. From the moment i called Helen's i got nothing but polite and enthusiastic help. I took it in and explained everything to Eric, one of the techs who works w Shimano on E bikes like this. He got it back to be in a few days and explained in detail what he did (pull the motor out and check all the wiring and get on diagnostics with Shimano via the web to update software and firmware) and didn't just try to upsell me on something i might not need or gouge me on the price like bike attack. Neither he nor i know if it has been totally solved but i know i have an ally now in dealing with this and he will be honest and escalate the service as necessary. I'll be out on rides again knowing that if it craps out again i know who to work with as we trouble shoot and get to a final fix. Thanks eric and everyone at Helen's Santa Monica!

He was incredibly kind, honest, efficient, and professional. He never tried to sell me anything I didn't need. Instead, he explained the problem, fixed it in about 10-15 minutes, and got me safely back on the road. I absolutely love my new pedals--they're even better and more stable than the original ones, and my bike feels amazing now. It's hard to find such honest and knowledgeable service these days. If you need any bike repairs or advice, I highly recommend Bicycle Ambulance. Thank you for the outstanding service!

Had an extremely disappointing experience getting my bike tuned up at Bicycle Ambulance. I dropped…read moreoff my bike and the store said they'd call me in about a week when it was ready. Over a month later, I still hadn't heard back, so I called the store, but didn't get any answer. Two days later, when I'm out of town, the store calls me and says it's "absolutely urgent" that I come by and pick up my bike because it's taking up space in the store. I explained that I was out of town and couldn't pick it up that week, and that this was the first time I was hearing about the bike being finished, even though it had been more than 30 days. The person on the phone said "Oh, they should have called you, it's been done for weeks." The next week, when I'm back in town, I call the store verify the hours and tell them I'm coming to pick up the bike that day. At 3:00p, I stop by, and the store is complete empty -- door's closed and locked, and the lights are off. I call the store number a dozen times, but no answer. I stand outside for 20 minutes before a worker comes from down the street and unlocks the door, and he gives no explanation or apologies for why the store has been closed when I tell him I've been waiting for 20 minutes. When we get inside, he gives me the bike (which, I admit, was very nicely done), and when I go to pay, he can't find the ticket to ring me up -- it takes another five minutes to go into the back to dig around before he finds the ticket and I can pay. TLDR: While the bike tune up was good, the customer service experience was atrocious. Would not recommend Bicycle Ambulance when there are many other options around.
