It's a nice size lot so that's good and if you go on their website you can can what cars they have and make and year. These people literally stole my car. When LKQ came to pick up my car, the check they gave me wasn't signed. I didn't notice this until my bank took the amount for the check back out of my account. I've been waiting 6 days for them to drop off a signed check. When I initially asked for them to come back and sign the check I was told to drive 25 minutes away so they could sign the check to which I said, "drive back and sign it", which they were completely unwilling to do. They were supposed to come today and drop off a signed check but they never showed up. As I write this I've been on hold with LQK for the past 45 minutes after they asked me if I'm calling about the '99 Infiniti (my car)...so they know why I'm calling and are just ignoring me. I picked this company because they're one of the biggest and it actually made working with them a nightmare. I keep getting punted from rep to rep to scrap yard back to rep. I doubt very seriously that anyone at Ecology cares about Yelp but I want to let my fellow yelpers know what to expect at the auto wrecking yard. Entry - $2.00 and your tool bags will be checked at the entrance. Attire: Must have closed toe shoes. Parking: street parking. Careful, some of the 'No parking any time' signs are hidden; they will ticket and tow in the area. You need all your own tools, cart etc because they don't have anything to borrow. There are some great finds at ecology but you have to know what you are looking for and then be wiling to do the work to strip it off the cars. The workers at the entry seemed friendly but most of the other people we encountered lacked manners or courtesy. Maybe they don't expect to see 2 girls go beast mode cutting sheet metal :-) If its raining hard they give a good discount to anyone crazy enough to do their grunt work in the rain. Today was 1/2 price day which they have every 3 or 4 months. Truthfully, I'm not sure if the prices were marked up in order to mark them down. I think my husband got better prices for similar items about a month ago. Plan on getting dirty. read more

Since LKQ bought up pick your part and ecology locations, prices have gone up. But now there is a dedicated price list on website Ive been to this junk yard on pick your parts 40% off weekend. However, this location doesnt share that periodical discount. It didnt do so the day i attended. This location is probably the worst place to go for domestic vehicles. Ive never seen such a small domestic vehicle inventory. If you are coming here for domestic, chances are they wont have ur vehicle. I came here because they had some vehicles that are not normally in inventory at other locations. They were not domestic. The parking is public street parking and limited. No parking lot. The cashier will charge you according to price list on website. Their vehicle selection is bad. Domestic is worst. They have a primo lot. It is better than their regular lot. But its not typically newer vehicles than their regular lot. Its just vehicles in better condition. Entry for primo lot is typically an extra $2. The prices are significantly more for parts as well. For those who complained about not knowing their inventory. Since they are owned by pick your part, their inventory list is available on pickyourpart.com. For those who complain about prices, their price list is also available on website. Just make sure you dont walk up to cashier and have them figure out the name of item. If you have a shock, tell them its a shock. Know what your part is or risk being charged for something similar and priced more than your actual part. Last but not least: If you buy any part here and all you want is that one particular part. You must remove all attachments or you will be charged for everything attached to the part. Just like one reviewer pointed out about a trunk lid. The cashier will charge you for everything attached to trunk lid. Emblems, lock cylinder, wires, hinges, tail light assemblies, bulbs, etc. Remove everything or pay for everything attached to it. If you dont, you cant complain if they charge you for it. Its their job to charge you for everything. Dont expect anything to be free here. You pay for everything, including screws, nuts, bolts. Check price list on pickyourpart.com But once you pay and if they make a mistake and not charge you for an attached part or under charge you for something, the entry/exit guard cannot send you back thru to make the cashier charge you more. The receipt says all sales are final. You should just walk out and ignore the guard or demand full refund of your order and leave. Forget Sarah's Smash Shack. Go here with some tools, specifically a sledge hammer or chainsaw and go to town. A great place to vent. If you have any stage blood, nows the time to use it. Smear some grease on your face while you're at it. Start banging away and the guys around you will be too scared to do anything to stop you or they may just think that you dont know how to take the parts off the car properly. Use the chainsaw sparingly as it may disturb the regulars a little too much. By the way, dont call these guys to pick up your junk heap. They will lowball you like crazy. Unless its really wrecked but if its not whole they wont take it. You have a better chance at parting it out yourself. It is however a cheap plave to get used car parts. Just got home after walking the entire yard. All attempts to call this place resulted in the phone being picked up and hung up immediately. As already stated they have no inventory, but I can break it down easy for those interested. 85% Domestic with most models being early 90's to late 90's. Anything over 2000 is not going to be here. At best 5% of domestic models where "newer". -As for imports that leaves the other 15% of the inventory. Not much for inventory unless you yet again are looking for older models. Most common was the 93 and down camry and also later model tercels. A few accords and civics but not much. Saw a couple eclipses. All in all if you have a 86-96 model domestic car this a good place to pull parts, but other than that enjoy the rust and the slum. read more

I have honestly gone to pay booth ask for pricing on a single item to go pull it off then go back to pay and them say oh no that's not the correct pricing this is the right pricing and it's double or at least a quarter more then what was originally stated. Ecology was much more economical. Entrance fee was also less. The app doesn't always have all the inventory either so I do wish that was updated in real time. Know how to turn a wrench and know what you're looking for when you get here. Learn how to walk the sections and know which yard you're looking for when you get here. I'd say they have a reasonable selection of older vehicles up to about early 2000's. After that you're looking at vehicles that are likely still on the road, or didn't survive the cash for clunkers ordeal. This place will not hold your hand, it's a yard full of vehicles in various states of decay. If you're the kind of person who will just show up to remove a tail light, you better know how to open a trunk with no internal escape latch when you realize there's no way to open the trunk without a trunk popper. It's that level of problem solving that you really have to understand when you go to places like these, and yes. I take issue with some of the 1 star reviews on here with people who obviously don't understand how auto wreckers operate. Bring a haynes or chiltons or a factory service manual, and make sure you bring a dolly or a wagon for your tools. It'll help when you're tired from pushing and pulling and lifting all of the parts that you'll need to move to get to parts that you need. Also there's never any guarantee that any of these parts will work. I believe Ecology lets you pay a deposit for a warranty or take it as is. I've been in situations where I've utilized the warranty and have been in situations where I didn't pay for it and things were fine. YMMV. Just be smart about how you do things here and you'll be fine. read more

I stopped in here this morning to pick up a few hard to find pieces for my truck. Decent selection of vehicles. They are somewhat arranged by make and model. Everything is easily accessible, so getting the parts off only took a few minutes. I found the few pieces that I needed and they let me have them for free. They were just dumb little plastic pieces that I broke on the windshield wipers. I saw a few other things that I wanted to pick up, but I didn't have the right tools with me. Great way to get rid of your POS - er, junk - car. My hubby's crappy old Pathfinder was not able to be sold to a private party because the check engine light was on, and therefore it would not be smogable. We would have had to shell out $1000 to repair it in order to sell it (no thanks!) so we opted to junk it instead. I submitted the form online. It was quick, didn't ask a lot of questions. Then I got an email offer for $450 soon after. I called to accept and all they wanted to know what's if the car drives, has air in its tires, has major body damage, and color. I gave them the VIN and license plate and that was it! They came and towed the car two days after I got the offer online. The driver was very friendly and paid me in cash which was awesome. Very painless! And they took care of the paperwork. The towing and everything was included, so I got the entire $450. So glad to have had this option as we did not want to deal with fixing up a crappy car and then going through the process of selling it. Told the cashier three times exactly what they were, and what they came out of, just to be sure she wouldn't mistakenly overcharge me. Copy-pasting from my review under the other, proper business listing (as LKQ rather than Ecology): My review is basically going to be a response/add-on to previous reviews from others, who seem to have a much more negative (and casually racist, and generally tweakerish) view of the place than I took away myself. Your call on how to weigh any conflicting opinions. To begin with, it's true that there is no parking lot; there is more street parking than I was expecting, but you may still be in for a short walk if you're unlucky with your timing. The area is much less seedy than I was expecting given that it's a, you know, salvage yard, and the other vehicles parked on the street were mostly pretty respectable-looking. At no point did anyone with a gold toof approach me with a business proposition involving narcotics or the guarding of my vehicle's wheels. The entry dude was friendly, addressed me as "sir," broke a 20 without groaning and happily answered my questions about where to find the vehicles I was looking for. I feel like there's not much more you can ask for when gauging the customer service level of a junkyard, y'know? The yard itself is probably the smallest I've seen, but I would estimate that there were still a good 300 or so vehicles present. I did not check what other reviews call the "primo yard" (which the entry guy told me is where they keep the 2002+ model year vehicles) so I can't personally speak to whether or how much that area may or may not contribute to the size and quality of the overall selection, but the satellite view on Google Maps shows another 75 or so vehicles back there. The way they have the lot organized is kind of weird, but it appears to be roughly divided into three areas: one of import cars, one of domestic cars, and one of mixed trucks/SUVs. I didn't pay much attention to the import section, but it appeared to comprise about 40-50% of the total inventory in the main yard. The domestics were represented at what I'd rate about a 5/10, with a decent number of Fords (both cars and trucks), Chevys (some trucks, not many cars) a few (less than 10) Dodges, and here and there a LeSabre or whatever. There are also a few '70s-vintage panel vans and F-series trucks present, which to me mostly just seemed to be wasting space in an already cramped yard. Interiors were pretty bombed out, as you'd expect, and the front-end bits like headlights seemed to be missing from a lot of the vehicles. All of this is all just intended to provide some basic information on the general makeup and condition of the lot - there is a live inventory available on the LKQ website, so use that to gauge whether your specific situation warrants the drive! The parts-counter girl was perfectly pleasant and told me what she was ringing up a few of my parts as when I told her I wasn't sure what to call them. (FYI, dome lights are "vanity lights" - the more you know!) There's a price list available on the LKQ site too, so you should have no surprises there. As an aside, none of my stuff had a core charge, but the concept is moronic to me - what are they gonna do, take my exchange part and reinstall it? Other random observations: There were a few customers walking around doing their thing with carts made from welded-up sheetmetal/rebar in tow, so I assume they make these available if asked. There were also a couple of employees on constant patrol, so you should probably go somewhere else to huff gasoline and masturbate. The hillside at the rear of the yard provided some nice late-afternoon shade after a couple hours of scrounging. I didn't notice any water fountains or facilities for hand-washing, but I also wasn't specifically looking for either one. Exit was subject to the usual cursory bag check, and they will stamp your hand for re-entry if you ask. The Chevron nearby will sell you two hot dogs for two bucks. Ford Motor Co. conducts hirings for its engineering department on the criteria of whether you show up to the interview wearing a lab coat. Thank you. read more

Stopped buy today to buy a few tires, Surprise..... the entry fee is raised to $3 now . tires $24.99 plus $3 dismounts. stereo 24.99 plus core and a trunk lid. Upon entrance i asked girl in window Diane how much for a trunk lid and says $39+core. I find one and remove it by its hinges and the air shocks were shot and thing came crashing down on me. I removed it anyways. She sees my trunk lid and asks does it have any tail lights, shocks or hinges? I said yes but they are old don't work and says that's another $25. (what the fuck do they care about the hinges,nobodys going to buy removed hinges not knowing what car it's off. the cars gonna get smashed anyways) I said i'll remove them and stepped aside. She totals my bill ( a whopping $159). As I'm leaving the guy at the gate, a older gray haired mexican a real Nazi who thinks he owns the place takes action as I'm making trips back and forth to my vehicle, he runs and tells cashier that the lid has a spoiler. As I'm leaving with the trunk lid the guy says you need to see the cashier and pay for the spoiler (more like a scratched up,flimsy piece of plastic which happend to standard on all Grand Prix GT models). I asked how much more is it? She says $40 or you can remove it. I said already paid for I'm leaving. Why didn't you tell me that before. So am i supposed to have holes in my trunk now because of of their mistake and lack of intelligence . They think they are right and know everything. I said if thats the case i don't want it. Take it off my bill now!!! She says no, i already rang it up. I say the the trunk lid has has not left the premises and I'm not taking this bullshit.. I didn't curse. We called and were quoted a price for salvage like another reviewer said but were given 50 dollars less then promised . Basically they get your car out of tow then drive around you around the corner then the tow driver writes you out a check, using the tow fee excuse. Keep that in mind when considering a quote. The cleanest best organized auto recycling yard in southern California. I Visit yards from Chula Vista (Today5/22/15) to LA on a weekly basis. Oceanside Ecology is the best. This yard is known for older cars but I was pleasantly surprised to find many very new cars in the yard. I also like the great selection of almost new tires and batteries for sale at reasonable prices. I often find cool items in this yard like vintage licence plate frames grill badges and emblems. The staff is friendly, and the yard guys will help you any way they can. The girls working the cashiers desk are very knowledgeable and friendly making this yard my favorite out of all the yards I travel to. Safe yard Clean yard staff actually is helpful Well organized Selection seems to be getting BETTER with newer cars I love being treated like a real person and a valued customer! read more
