I needed to get my front end aligned since my two front tires were wearing a little more on the inside. They weren't bald...far from it. I checked the Yelp universe for ratings on a tire shop that had good honest folks and Conover Tires won by a long shot. I brought my car in and they were able to do my alignment quickly and it feels as good as new driving it! The owner was super nice and welcoming and said when I am ready to replace my tires, they have some great deals. No pressure... just the suggestion and made sure I knew it wasn't something I had to do right now. There is a cafe next door which is super convenient if you have to wait. I came in on a Saturday morning without an appointment to get a wheel alignment on a truck I had just put a leveling kit on. I was told they could perform my service while I waited. I gave them my keys and meandered to the small cafe that conveniently is located in the came building. (See separate review). Having been a mechanic in my younger days, I was curious to see their system. Happily I discovered that they were super professional and thorough. Seat cover and floor mat and a test drive prior to putting it on the rack. They looked over the front end to make sure nothing was bent, broken, or loose and then set the front to factory specs. Once complete, they test drove it again to make sure it didn't pull one direction of the other and that the steering wheel was straight. I was there about an hour. They called me up to the counter, I paid, and they explained the settings and showed me where my alignment was out in the beginning and where it ended up. I was even provided a link to my phone to download the results. I was a happy camper and on my way in no time. I'll definitely go back when the truck needs work again. Added note, I found Conover's when I was looking for a new trailer to pull my off road car around on. He was friendly, helpful, and pricing was amazing! The process was easy, and they are very quick. I also got my axel replaced on my Toyota Prius. Again, totally painless process and very affordable pricing. I dropped off my car in the afternoon and it was ready to be picked up the next morning by 10am. The cafe attached is also a plus! Inconsistent customer service. Took an older trailer in to them to do some work on. They solved a few problems in a timely manner but mounted 4 new cheap tires that we had discussed at the outset but I clearly said I did not want. When I picked up my trailer it had the new tires on it. They said they would knock a few bucks off, so I did them a favor and left them on. On my very first trip one of the tires flew apart and seriously damaged the entire side and fender of my nice enclosed trailer. When I got back from my trip I sent them photos of my damage. They said it was MY FAULT!! Said I drove on a flat tire. At the time as soon as I was aware of the problem I immediately pulled off the highway. I could not have stopped sooner. The AAA installer noticed the "new" cheap tires they sold me were over 2 years old. Just be aware when dealing with these guys. Very sleazy and wouldn't help me at all. I had to buy another tire and fix my trailer myself. They cost me a lot of time and money. Eventually I will have to replace the crap tires they forced on me with a known brand. What a pain, always buy tires from Discount or Costco. They stand behind what they sell. read more

I had an unusual problem with a small trailer wheel. I had hit a curb , it dented the rim to the point where the tire lost air pressure. I took it to Conover to see if it was repairable. Popped a slow flat on my C6 Corvette that showed up the morning after I reached my destination. I used Conover Tires to fix my vehicle's alignment. Loved these guys and their operation. Super great service, quality work, and honest/accurate expectations about timing. I had found them on Yelp and saw the great reviews, so I went to their site and reached out through their messaging system. I really appreciated getting such quick responses for a quote. Of course it also helped that their pricing was the most competitive of the other quotes I received in the Oceanside area. Also loved the coffee shop next door (I think they might be the same owners). for a comfortable (and delicious) place to do some work while waiting for the service to be complete. It makes such a difference to be have a nice place to wait vs. an awkward waiting room or dealing with getting a ride to/from the shop. First let me start off with a few positives. The waiting room is probably the nicest waiting room I've been to at a car repair shop ever. Most waiting rooms at repair shops just feel like an extension of the garage or they're very cramped and uncomfortable. But this one actually had very comfortable seating and a cafe atmosphere since it's basically adjacent to a cafe. And there's a cute little cat that roams around everywhere. I wanted to like this place. So why the one star review? Sadly I'm giving Conover a one star review because they tried to outright hustle me. I told them my car was making a knocking sound and I wasn't sure what it was, perhaps the sway bar links. They supposedly did a diagnostic and after one hour or so, they said my sway bar links were indeed bad and needed to be replaced. And they said the cost to replace the two sway bar links would be $500! I had done some prior research, so I knew this was way overpriced for sway bar link replacements. The average price is $120 - 200 including parts and labor. I asked to see the print out and the guy said he would remove the $100 diagnostic fee, but even $400 was way too much. They were going to charge me $180 for parts that go for $40 online (or anywhere). So I walked away. Unfortunately, that's not where the story ends. I ended up buying the parts online myself for $40 and then just recently found a different repair shop where I only had to pay the labor to install them ($100). But it turns out when they took out the old sway bar links, there was nothing wrong with them! They showed me and I saw for myself they were perfectly fine! This was infuriating because not only did I end up chasing down the wrong rabbit hole trying to repair a part that didn't need replacing, but it also means Conover never actually did a diagnostic. They just flat out lied about my sway bar links needing to be replaced! The $500 they were going to charge me from the diagnostic to the parts was all a fiction. It's one thing to charge a little more than your competitors. But to flat out lie to your customers saying a part is broken when it's not and charging a $100 diagnostic fee when you don't even look at the car is fraudulent business practices. I could never trust this place with my car. Nor do I think anyone else should, which is why I'm writing this review. I'm sure they don't cheat all their customers, but do you really want to goto a place that literally scams some of their customers with unnecessary repairs? I wouldn't trust this place beyond an oil change and tire rotation. I hope they change their business practices and get rid of the rot because it's sad to see such a nice waiting room atmosphere goto waste. The cat probably has some sad stories to tell. read more

was thinking about trying to fix my steering wheel alignment alone at Gearheads in Oceanside, when I sent them an email and told them what I was trying to do, they told me that there was a shop right next-door that was honest and reliable And that it might be better just to have them do it. Paid $145 for my alignment, and the car is as it should be now. I was surprised, it being my first time there, when I dropped my car off, they gave me a token and said I could go get a coffee or a sandwich at the café that is attached to their shop. The absolute WORST! These people prey on unknowledgeable, trusting seniors!! They're criminals disguised as "nice guys" They tried to intimidate my 90 year old Mother into totally unnecessary, very expensive repairs! She took her car in for a front wheel alignment. The technician said since there was 5,000 miles into her 7,000 mile synthetic oil, he recommended she do an oil change. Okay but, it was going to take an additional 90 minutes in addition to the alignment. Okay, fine Well, after almost 3 hours, I called to get a status report. At that moment, I received a text, not a phone call, a text say we need to review the results of your vehicle inspection...hmmmm Red Flags are a wavin'!!! First off, they say that the coolant level is low...okay, when she gets the oil changed at Walmart they took off all fluids! Did they? Hell now. The said that they need to determine where the cooling system is leaking. They said they need to pressure test not only the radiator, but they also need to perform an engine block test! Really!?! It gets better. Another one of the 11 "failures" was that the power steering fluid was contaminated... yeah, I said it "contaminated!" Then they said the transmission was leaking and they needed to locate the leak. Funny, there's never been a hint of transmission fluid on the garage floor, no smoking from transmission fluid "leaking" onto any part of the engine, which if you know, transmission fluid, even a drop near any engine part will smoke like Snoop Dogg! These guys are piranhas and will stop at nothing to up sell the shit out of anyone who is not aware of their blatant, UNNECESSARY work they say you need to address IMMEDIATELY!! I'm reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, the local news outlets and anyone else I can think of! SHAME ON YOU, CONOVER!!! read more

I was able to make an appointment to have my wheels aligned the same day. They offered a free shuttle to my home, but decided to wait. They give first time customers a free sandwich at the onsite cafe. It was excellent and so big, I could only finish half. Everyone was very friendly from the receptionist to the mechanic. My car was ready when promised and the alignment made a huge difference in how it drove. I had asked them to give me an estimate for repairing a'scraping' noise from me running over one of those concrete 'stops' in parking lots that I didn't see. I was afraid it would be $$$. The mechanic said it was some panel? I had knocked loose and fixed it for free. I am an elderly female and know from experience that auto repair shops sometimes will try to take advantage of my lack of knowledge. I really appreciate Conover in that they didn't do this, in fact went above and beyond to be helpful. Best auto repair place you can find in Oceanside!I damaged my metal shield (under my car) while driving through a flood in one of the worst rainy weather conditions. I couldn't remove the metal shield, so it was half stuck and hanging under my car, and I had to drive around with the metal hanging out the bottom. It was extremely scary as I thought I would get into an accident. It made a chalk-screech sound as I drove, scraping the metal against the ground. So happy I found my new go to local auto body! All my friends in town recommended them and now I see why. My dad and uncle both own auto shops back east and I've leased since moving west so never really found a go-to until now. Just bought out my previous lease and had some issues - headlight out, speedometer issues, crack in windshield as well as my gas tank not allowing me to fill up- spits gas back out after about 1/2 tank. Called to make an appt and got in next day, they have a shuttle service for drop off/pick up too. I didn't need it but that's great! I was able to have my windshield (they have another service come in) and headlight repaired within 24 hours. When I went to pick up my car they explained that bc I was under a certain mileage my gas issue should be covered by my dealer warranty and even went the extra mile to call the dealership and verify. They could have fixed it and charged me but instead were honest and looking out for their customer first. Such a gem of a place, and bonus - fresh cookies at pick up! I have two little ones and made them share the cookie with me it was so delicious.
