    Halfway thru lunch. Yummy!

So I'm gonna start by saying I hope folks really will keep going to Luby's in El Paso. There are only really two other places to get midwestern or country home style American food here and that's Golden Corral, a buffet and Cheddars a cafe. Luby's is the last of a dying Breed, the Cafeterias. The family Sunday after church place of mine and many others childhood. I think I must be part Square Fish, Mac and Cheese with corn and Strawberry Shortcake because that was my "go-to" for years as a child. Today as an adult, I love the carved roast beef, the fried and baked chicken and the baked fish. And I never miss the Cheese Enchiladas here. They are made Tex-Mex style with lots of meat sauce and yellow cheese. Inside and melting all over the top. So good. Yea things changed a lot after the pandemic, we lost 2 locations. And lots of faves off the menu. Goodbye Friday Gumbo. See ya Sunday King Ranch Chicken. And they still have salads, but no longer do the the big huge bowls of 3 types of greens greet you at the start of the line, with a smiling lady ready to serve them into a bowl for you, with up to 9 different kinds of toppings like crushed boiled eggs. Diced tomatoes and cucumbers. Real bacon bits, croutons, fried onions, grated cheese, grilled chicken or diced Ham, and several homemade salad dressings. That you could sub on any combo plate for $1.99 . No today you just have a small to-go container with greens and two tomato wedges. And a selection or premade salad dressing pouches. All the prepared salads have been reduced to 2-3 options that rotate daily, in little sundae cups. You have to hope you come on pea salad or carrot salad day now. It's not there every day anymore. But the line is still well stocked with old faves like square fish, that super expensive bone in pork chop is nearly $17.50 now. They do still have the Luann platter but it's nearly $10 plus drink, still, not too bad for lunch not in a hurry or fast food joint. I DO love the ambiance, the nostalgia. Hearing real silverware scratching against real plates. Dishes crashing and clanging in the kitchen. Ahh but paper napkins now. Gone are the green cloth ones...I like The low hum of multiple conversations. People carrying trays for older people. Laughter of the children as they eat jello.. I had Baked Mayonnaise fish today, with Mac and cheese, spinach and green beans. And a roll. With some tea. $18 and change before tip. It was all delicious, all my food was very warm. My roll even melted my butter. Kids eat FREE HERE on Wednesdays and SATURDAYS!!! One free meal with every adult meal... that's a good deal for a Wednesday night or Saturday afternoon after soccer or football games... is this 5 STAR dining??? No, but it's real food .... And it's homey... keep Luby's in your eating out rotation.

Well, I see an average of 3 1/2 stars. That's exactly where I am. Lets start with this, I love Buffets! And Luby's is one that goes way back. I have fond memories of the variety and all the goodies! Because, we do not have a Luby's locally, we stopped by this one while traveling. We stopped in the day after Christmas and I thought it might be busy, but we were able to go straight up to the food line. There were some familiar dishes, but to me, it looked like there were fewer choices than the last time that I visited. Maybe it was just my imagination. We went on down the line, making our choices as we went. The employess were all pleasant which was really nice. My favorite was the liver and onions, mashed potatoes and fried okra. Unfortunately, I hit the bottom of the pan on the liver and onions. I was just given liver because the onions were gone. I sure wish that they would have offered to bring onions when the next batch came out, but they didn't. The food was lukewarm at best. The liver was pretty good but would have been better had I received the next batch. The okra and potatoes were good, but again, only lukewarm. My wife had the fish almandine. Unfortunately she said it was fishy, but did say it was usually better. So yes, I will be back. I think we just hit it on the wrong day or time. I do like Luby's and unfortunately, they are becoming hard to find, so I think I will see them as an out of the ordinary treat whenever I find one. Maybe next time I'll have my onions! Thanks crew, we'll do it again!

Luby's is a great mid- week meal. Join their email club to get discounts and specials. Everything I've eaten here is good, consistent and available to-go! Their email club is great! I just wish it would apply to take out as well!

I would add a photo but unfortunately I ate it all already. I will however add a photo of the dessert I'm taking home and will update y'all on it. The food has a nice selection, there something for EVERYONE. The food is not highly seasoned which is great if you have stomach or health conditions. It's still very flavorful with the herbs and marinades etc that they use. They have a variety of desserts and healthy and unhealthy options. Fish, chicken, meat, salad, different breads. It's so spacious and nice view. Plenty of seating and restrooms are clean.

Super spreader even just created for the people of El Paso . Waited for hours to be told that my pre paid meal that had a time reservation will not be given to me . Congrats Lubys you have blood on your hands now .

My first time at a Luby's and it was great. The cafeteria style had so many choices that I couldn't decide. I just went with the fried chicken. I opted for the dark meat and it was cooked just right, juicy and tender. Not bad for under $11 with all the fixings I chose.

But no one cares right ! The cashier says that I can't eat here with my weighted plate so I tell her if she can ask please since all my family was going to eat and theirs other places that are ok with it, she asked the owner or boss and he rudely told her to not ask him questions in front of customers didn't bother to come up to us or anything , ‍ I felt bad for her as she looked like she felt awkward since he told her rudely, so I just told her that's fine just let them eat. So I sat out on eating ‍ ambiance regular big sitting buffet. Everyone eating their food minding their own food, if you don't let customers eat with a weighted plate that they are paying for then why even use those plates. I was able to sit it out and went to eat somewhere else after everyone was done eating. Bariatric things theirs other buffets that will accommodate just not this one.

We had to go find him multiple times to get drink refills, and we weren't there long. He'd pass by the table and leave clearly empty dishes, but later on he took mostly full plates from in front of me and my friend. I don't like to complain about service, but I was disappointed. The stars reflect my overall experience at the restaurant, because tonight was not a typical experience.

First of all if you go a saturday or sunday 3-7pm you would most likely find a waiting line of up to an 1hr, the food is that good. There is a salad bar with all types of sides: potatoes, cold pasta salads, rice, breads, even wings, spaghetti, etc I can't remember all of them but its varied, you have a lot of options but be careful not to get full on the sides and vegetables because they're really good but you still have to wait on the main course. The waiters/caters come table to table with their different meat cuts and they serve them on your plate, they're not cold, they meat is on a ESPADA (sword) that comes right out of the flames, sometimes it's sizzling still. You can tell them to bring a special meat that you like as many times you want, and you can stay there at the restaurant as much as your stomach allows you, it's a buffet but instead of you going to serve yourself, the waiters bring the meat to you, my personal favorite CHISTORRA (it's a chorizo like meat with a salty and porky flavor). They have a variety of drinks but the wine options in here are the main thing, make sure to ask for your favorite wine they probably have it. So if you're feeling really hungry for meat i mean A LOT of meat, stop by Espadas and have a bite, or 2...... or 30. The attention is good and they take credit cards and cash USD dollars. And there also a menu for deserts if you still are craving something sweet (but these are paid separately), I usually just take the grilled pineapple with cinnamon that comes in a sword as well, DELICIOUS!

OR I…read moreDEFINITELY want pot roast but I don't wanna make it at home and have it for the next 5-6 days or have to freeze parts of it, etc. or I wanna eat fried chicken until I can't hold any more! LOL! Or I'm craving fried white fish. And popcorn shrimp. Or just veggies or soups and salad(s). I can service all of those at Golden Corral. Now true, they do have some bad days once in a while. They fall behind on refilling items. Or put out food before it's completely ready because people are complaining about "when are you going to have more 'fill in the blank'". You can't rush food, it's done when it done. I always love their pot roast with new potatoes and onions and celery and carrots. I used to order the whole pot roast and veggies family meal from the northeast location during the pandemic. But today, here, it was not good. The pan was dried up. It only had red new potatoes. When a gentleman brought out some "meat" it didn't even resemble the roast they normally serve, it was 3 small pieces that looked like steak? And it had no Au jus or braising liquid or anything. And it was tough. The pot roast is never tough, it always falls apart but I think they were rushing it, I had been there for 30 mins. And they had been out of it that whole time. The place was pretty clean and my waitperson, Karla, was super attentive to me and seemed to always have a broom and dustpan in her hands around the buffet lines. I appreciated how well she was working to keep the floors clean. She was also carrying stacks of clean plates and trays full of dirty dishes to the back. These people work hard and fast. I think they are short handed as it says they are hiring on a few signs around this location. I had several good things to eat this day, Sans the Pot roast. I was really here for the cornmeal breaded fried white fish. I believe it's Swai, very similar to catfish but a third the price. It's always good. The freshly grilled pork chops were good too if you get one that's not too over done. The grill guy said they have to cook it that long. The fried chicken and popcorn shrimp were great. I also had some great veggies today: Brussels Sprouts, corn, fried okra, broccoli and cauliflower covered in cheese. And green beans and some white rice with brown gravy. There are tons of desserts here, even sugar free puddings, but I'm always good with a few fresh baked cookies. Yea it costs about $14 plus another $3.50 Or so for a tea or drink for $17.50 before. Tax and at first you think there is no way you can eat enough to justify that cost but then if you go to any other sit down restaurant and order one entree with the 2 sides you might get and a tea you're gonna pay that some price Or so and not get to go get seconds at all. So it really is a deal. And they do keep Bringing out fresh food. Even if you have to bug them about it for a certain item being out! And they have a rewards program now where you can earn points to get up to $10 off of a future purchase. Thats almost like half price! This is my favorite GC location in El Paso.

Exceptionally today was mind blowing to my Mother and I both, which in fact changed my whole perspective about it's cleanliness and overall establishment .As a very young girl I remember coming here after my games and recitals with my whole family, however this morning as usual my Mother and I went to go grab some lunch. We saw the unexpected and most disturbing thing any food place can experience. We had a full grown cockroach on our table, it was not a baby or small at all, which tells me from my knowledge that this infestation has been here long enough to incubate and grow from an egg to a full grown cockroach, and if you know, where there is one there is many. Of course I had the manager come over to see it for themselves and they went ahead and offered a refund, however that fear and uneasiness of going back at the moment is at its highest. Not to mention that there was a broom and dustpan right next to our table which is not very professional coming from their maintenance department or staff. I wanted to share my experience not to defamate the place but for awareness rather instead, and proper protocol. I hope that this doesn't happy to noone in the future and that the Manager Ron Ramirez does according to our conversation, this is unacceptable.

We used to be in and out of here in under an hour each time we would come. Unfortunately, the last 3 or 4 times we have been here have been AWFUL experiences. Nothing could compare to tonight... we were sat quickly, our appetizers came in a decent-ish amount of time. Shortly after finishing, we order 2 rolls each... we sat and waited for these rolls for over an HOUR!! It was insanity and I was so over it. Not once did the waiter come around to explain the delay. Our rolls finally come and 3/4 rolls are wrong. We come often, I know what I like and I know what my favorite rolls look like. My husband had to get up and hunt our waiter down to let him know. I was ready to just leave after paying our bill. The waiter comes by with attitude telling me that those are the rolls that we ordered and even after explaining to him how I knew those were not our rolls, he refused to take them back. We were faced with the hard decision of fighting this waiter and getting these off our bill or sucking it up and eating them. Not only were these not my rolls but they not good in the slightest. My husband had to take one for the team and help finish them. Going up to the front counter to pay for our bill, we encountered 3 other couples who had similar experiences and just wanted to get the heck out of there. Other than the ridiculously rude and clueless waiter, this establishment has the worst management (or lack thereof). There is one waiter I want to give a shoutout to. The tall, slim, bald gentleman has been working here since we started coming and he has always given the best service!! Better management would turn this place around but until then, will NOT be back...
