Waking up the morning after a Mardi Gras parade, I chug the bottle of water drunk me labeled "drink me!" Since there was no food left next to the bottle of water, I grabbed my phone and pulled up the UberEATS app. Unable to choose between breakfast and non breakfast food, I decided to order both from LUCA Eats. Once I got the goods from the uber driver (who didn't drive away frightened or laugh hysterically at my extremely hungover hot mess look), I hurried upstairs to dig in. The breakfast portion of my order consisted of the egg white press and the corn grits. The sandwich was delicious and consisted of French bread stuffed with egg white, spinach, avocado, white cheddar, and tomato. Beginning to feel slightly human, I tore into the order of corn grits which were equally good. Fast forward a few hours, I heat up the chicken and andouille gumbo I had ordered. The gumbo was really good and only needed a touch of hot sauce. I wish they had the option to add a piece of French bread for your gumbo or some potato salad. Overall, I was extremely happy with the food and can't wait to eat at the actual restaurant. read more

Great breakfast/lunch spot in Uptown. Went from the recommendation from my father in law who lives nearby who loves it, and is very hard to please. Wife and I went for breakfast. They have a large outdoor patio that would be great in nice weather (it was raining for us) but we easily found room inside. It is run by a really nice husband and wife team who are extremely friendly. We quickly made our orders: steak and egg, and chorizo and egg, and a side of fried bell pepper rings. And two wonderful locally roasted coffees. The chorizo which also had Swiss, chimichurri and avocado had great flavor and a little heat. I'm not an avocado fan but it was a nice creamy compliment to the egg and toasted French bread. However my wife gave me some bites of her dripping steak and egg which was fantastic, and I preferred it more. Definitely grabbing that next! And the pepper rings; where have you been my life? I love bell peppers and can't understand why I have never seen these before? They are a flavorful alternative to onion rings and should be on every bar menu. The prices are a little high for coming coffee and a breakfast sandwich, but the ingredients are top notch. Oh, I made sure to get a steak and egg to go for the father in law. This is a hole in the wall place. The only thing that bothers me is that it is directly across from a cemetery. Otherwise, I would probably give it a higher rating. The price is a bit high. Even at nearby "Milk Bar" which has arguably the best sandwiches in town, all are under $10 including the generously stuffed Shrimply. THAT PRICEY ONION RING MOCKED ME plumply crisping in its fry basket. But oddly substitutions aren't allowed and as a $5 add-on the cost of my lunch would've ballooned to $17 pre-tax. And that's without a drink! At local gold-standard "St James Cheese Co." most sandwiches are $10 and include a fresh side salad. Luca's unremarkable house kettle chips seem more like a garnish. I wish some of their interesting sides were options: the hummus, fried bell peppers, corn grits, etc. WHA...? NO FOUNTAIN DRINKS? Many counter spots in the neighborhood include soft drinks like "Moe's" where all huge bbq plates are less than $12 and come with 2 sides and free refills. At "Bud's" a burger platter with rings and a 32oz is just $9. Fountain service also keeps you from having to get back in queue. read more

The great: Oreo beignets! Definitely great, but you only get 3-4 for $7. The rest of their food is mediocre and that would be okay if they weren't as insanely overpriced as they are, because rich people live here now. The chips are boring, the cubano is meh, as are most of the sandwiches. The service is hit or miss, the miss being a really dour by the young woman with a very round face, freckles and fro-y/curly hair, pulled back) or fine/sorta nice (most of the others). Bottom line: The food is really not worth the money, and it hurts to pay this much (Especially when it's a choice between hangry-ness because I'm too exhausted or in too much pain to walk to Adams Street Market which is a way better deal and much more affordable. read more

First, I will be back to try again. I'm thinking this was just an issue with my order since I'm not seeing any other reviews on it. I got the fried tomatoes sandwich with rosemary chips. I COULD NOT eat the chips they had SOOOOOOO much salt on them. I Wish I was exaggerating but they were inedible. I decided to wipe the salt off some of the chips and I literally had a pile of salt in my lap. The sandwich had GREAT flavor but was lacking in the amount of fried green tomatoes; I wish it had more. We were trying to detox after 5 days of French Quarter eating and drunken debauchery, and looking for options that offered ample delicious vegetarian choices that weren't restricted to Southern food. We found this gem in our Airbnb's neighborhood and decided to walk there for lunch on New Year's Eve for brunch, and felt like we were "home" - back to our Californian/Michigan hippie haunts with the art, avocado toasts, and health-conscious food. It is in the neighborhood of Central Carrolton Association near the end of the St. Charles Avenue trolley line. If you are looking at the crescent shape of New Orleans, the Garden District is the southeast corner and LUCA Eats is at the northwest corner. I used UBER because it is an hour trolley ride from the French Quarter. I went to LUCA Eats for their famous oreo beignets. It is basically fried oreos with a beignet twist. In the past, I have not enjoyed fried oreos because they are mushy. However, LUCA Eats make them fresh to order. As a result, the oreo is soft and tasty instead of soggy. The dough and sugar complement the oreos perfectly. They are my personal favorite beignets in New Orleans. I definitely like them more than Café Du Monde. The brunch sandwiches also look great. If I had not just eaten at Willie Mae's and just went to LUCA Eats to try the oreo beignets, I definitely would have ordered one. My friend ordered the white chocolate bread budding. I had a bite. It was good but nothing spectacular. Oreo beignets are totally the way to go. I met friends here for breakfast recently and was determined to return for lunch when I learned that they served house-made potato chips. The chips seasoned with rosemary and sea salt did not disappoint, nor did my house-roasted turkey breast sandwich! My boyfriend was offered a job by an organization that has a horse as their logo. I LOVE this. We would have to move to Colorado, which sure I am ok with. We had lunch today at Luca Eats. Its the cutest place and it is sooo good! We had their homemade chili, fried bell pepper rings, the pressed Muffeletta and the Sirloin sandwich with housemade chips and of course ended with their Oreo beignets. When looking for a good sandwich that we hadn't had before, we stumbled upon LUCA eats one Tuesday. First, let me start by saying that the fried green pepper rings live up to the hype- we received them piping hot, and they were so unique and delicious! I ordered the Turkey Pesto sandwich and it was great! Warm, with avocado and gouda- it was delicious! My husband also enjoyed the steak sandwich. Both meals came with homemade potato chips (I think....) that were also wonderful! To top it off, they serve French Truck coffee! I topped off my delicious lunch with a French truck iced coffee. They are small on the inside, but had plenty of outdoor seating. It was a nice, peaceful spot in the neighborhood, and we enjoyed sitting outside in the fall weather (finally!). LUCA eats got 4 stars instead of 5, because the price was a little steep for a neighborhood sandwich shop. Our bill was over $30, and we ordered water.... I dig this local joint. I've only ever tried the breakfast sandwiches and espresso/ cappuccino, but they are super solid. The sandwiches are made to order, not sitting in a case to warm up. They have a cool menu and I need to try more items. They serve French Truck Coffee, which is quite nice. The vibe is relaxed, with indoor seating as well as mostly shaded outdoor seating. It's across the street from an above ground cemetery, which may be of interest to our tourist friends. Water bowls for your canine friends to hang out with you, which always makes me happy. The place gives me the impression of an owner-operator type of organization, which I always like to support. The service has always been friendly and prompt. You could reach this destination with a short walk from the Carrollton Street Car line. read more
