We took my mom for her birthday recently, we didn't tell anyone why we were there, but the server, (Hunter, who was perfectly attentive throughout the meal) overheard and they brought her a beautiful little cannoli for desert! There's distinctly an old school vibe here - remember that restaurant your parents made you eat out at with your Florida retired grandparents? 70s soft music, reduced lighting, attentive hostess that knows your folks name? Yup. I say this in a nostalgic positive way. The menu is solid and the daily specials and additional blackboard specials are interesting and inventive. Highlights include the antipasto, their meat sauce, the Scottish salmon, and the scrumptious desserts. My husband did not believe the Bolognese to be a "true" bolognese but thought it was decent. I've always heard good things about Lucarelli's so I was thrilled that I was able to get a reservation for Christmas Eve dinner. The ambience is wonderful and for the most part, the staff was attentive although our server hurried us along a bit too much and then disappeared completely after we received our main course. I suspect she noticed we were disappointed overall and didn't want a confrontation. With a limited holiday menu, I expected the few choices to be extra special but my husband and I found our meal to be subpar. The calamari was too salty and soggy, the special seafood pasta was very bland and Mama's meatballs were just meh. But I must say, my bottle of wine and bread were excellent! Needless to say, our Christmas Eve was an expensive letdown. I would have expected the management to pull out all the stops for this special holiday. First time last night and it was perfect! We had heard good things but it exceeded our expectations. The server did a great job and the restaurant was full which was a good sign off season Tuesday night. Started with a nice glass of wine and very nice bread basket with a flavored butter. My husband ordered a perfectly cooked veal chop with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. Delicious for $35. He took half gone because it was so big. He started with a wonderful pasta fagiole soup and I had a great wedding soup. My entree was a veal piccata with a very light sauce which is the way it's meant to be. I also took half mine home. We are very limited with good restaurants in Venice as full time residents and are tired of the usual places. Can't wait to take our kids later this Summer. The worst Italian restaurant my wife and I have ever set foot in. My wife ordered gnocchi and I ordered Spaghetti Putanesca . My entrée just didn't taste good and was very bland. I make this dish myself and have had it several times in restaurants and in Italy. This Putanesca was just flavorless. My wifes gnocchi was by far the worst ever. So doughy you could not chew them. They actually were sticking together. We believe they were not only under cooked but some kind of inferior flour because they were so mushy! I have had frozen gnocchi out of a box that not only taste better but even if I under cooked it, it would not be this mushy. Then to top it off we saw what looked like a one and a half or two inch cockroach on the wall and the end of our table. That did it for us. We let the waiter know and practically ran out. read more

Man! What a spot. I enjoy the cozy and traditional Italian setting. Everything from the salad, soup, main courses to the Dessert! My go to dish is the surf and turf with the lobster Mac. Incredible! I said I would give this place another try and I am so thankful I did. (And no, the Italian Squad did not come and get me from my last review) We went on a Saturday night at 7:30 pm and the place was hopping. The ambiance is beautiful, as if you are stepping into a dining room in Napoli. It does not seem like it would be this nice from the parking lot and front facade off 41. We had a large round table for 6 that was set beautifully. We were greeted at the entrance by a hostess. The specials were listed on an Italian Blackboard next to the bar. They only serve wine and beer. The ambiance was lively and all of the patrons and staff were smiling. Good sign! We ordered our drinks and appetizers and meals. The house Merlot was very smooth. When our meals came they were piping hot and delicious. My Filet Mignon was flavorful and like "butta". The green beans were crisp and flavorful. The grouper was amazing and fresh, fresh, fresh. My husband loved his eggplant parmesan. The linguini with clam sauce was "one of the best I've had" as a friend said. And every one of us loved the meatballs. The cheesecake is decadent. We had it with all 3 sauces.... caramel, chocolate and strawberry.... I know, we are so bad. The cappuccino was the way it should be hot and steamy. All 6 of us said that we had a terrific evening of great food, excellent service and beautiful ambiance and laughter. In addition, our bill for myself and my husband including wine and dessert was less than $60....Love it. We will be back. Note: I am giving only 4 stars because they do not have a full bar....
