Everything about Lucas Orthodontics is excellent. This is our second ortho and i wish we had gone to Lucas sooner. Dr. Lucas is caring, honest, enthusiastic and very good at what he does. We are seeing very good results in the time frame promised. The intial consultation is extremely thorough. We came away with a detailed treatment plan, photos and breakdown of cost. When the braces went on we had a consultation during which all aspects of life with braces was explained. The office is great with appointment times. We have never had to wait more than a minute or two. We miss almost no work or school. The staff treats my daughters with real respect and care. They even made a welcome sign for their first visit. They are very willing to work with me on a payment plan. The cost was conparable to what we paid for our older child at a different ortho. The office is clean and very attractive. It has been a little over 10 years since I visited Dr. Lucas' office as a middle school student. Now at the age of 26, I am faced with a $4000-$6000 orthodontic bill to repair the damage after Dr. Lucas' treatment. I recently went in to remove two permanent (upper and lower) metal retainers put on my Dr. Lucas. These have since deteriorated and are broken in several places causing shifting in my teeth. I actually went back to Dr. Lucas in 2009 to have this fixed when he opted to "snip it off and buff" rather than replace, which allowed my teeth to continue moving over the years. He did not recommend any other treatment options to repair the retainers. Today I also learned he used an unnecessary application method of the permanent retainer, which essence shaved a tiny trench into my teeth to fit the band and lay flat against my teeth. Now that the metal is removed and the teeth exposed, I now have extreme sensitivity to eating and drinking and ongoing enamel pain. A direct quote from my new orthodontist "I have no idea why some orthodontists use this method, I personally do not". Learn from my mistakes and find a more reputable orthodontist! read more

Loved the end results of my daughters smile , BUT disappointed that she wasn't given the permanent retainer for her bottom teeth. I know it was discussed and was either emailed or written down. As an adult the prospects of needing braces was demoralizing and not the most pleasant. Dr. Lucas and the entire staff not only did a fantastic job of fixing up my teeth / smile, but the braces were so subtle that many people didn't even notice that I had braces at all and it was a perfect conversations topic! Dr Lukas and the entire staff adjusted there schedules as necessary to fit me in based on my work schedule. They were always on time. The office is warm and welcoming and so is the staff. It feels like you're visiting your friends from the moment you walk in on day 1. Both our kids went to Dr. Lucas. My youngest of two boys just had his braces removed last month. We were referred by their dentist Dr. Klass. Both our kids now have an awesome smile and perfect teeth. Despite my older son having his braces off nearly 5 years ago, Dr. Lucas still always makes time to see him - even if for no other reason but to adjust his retainer. Both kids also play basketball and he takes the time to explain the importance of ALWAYS wearing a mouth-guard. He has some sports related stories to tell that get even the young kids to listen. The idea of getting adult braces was terrifying for me. I was supposed to have a 2-step orthodontic treatment as a kid, and the first step was so horrible that I never went back for the second step. Once I knew I was getting married, I wanted to have straight teeth for my wedding, and I was referred to Dr. Lucas. Dr. Lucas and the staff are super welcoming and friendly! They had my braces off right at the estimated time and within plenty of time for my wedding. They provided excellent care throughout the whole process, and even still today, almost 18 months after my braces were removed. I called yesterday with a broken retainer and they were able to squeeze me in for an appointment today. They are replacing my retainer free of charge. They truly are the best. Adult orthodontia......Can't say enough good things about Dr. Lucas and his staff. I had braces in 1974 and found myself in 2016 needing to straighten the drift that occurred over the last 42 years. My dentist recommended Dr. Lucas because he's not only great with kids but he's very skilled working on adults. I'm almost 60 years old and I've had crowns etc over the years. I was leery about putting pressure on crowned teeth, impressions etc. Dr. Lucas was amazing and made me very comfortable. So friendly, very sincere, caring, remembers me from visit to visit etc. He recommended Invisalign for me and it worked perfectly. As an older adult, going back into the orthodontist's chair is not something I looked forward to. But, everyone was superb! If I was a child again, his office is the one I would want to go to. They have a great "brushing room" (nobody had that 42 years ago!) and a game room that the kids love to play in before their appointment (nobody had that either), bottled water, very comfortable waiting room, beautiful surroundings.... An excellent experience. I would highly recommend Dr. Lucas! My most recent visit was January 2017. read more

Like many parents, I was faced with having to choose an orthodontist a couple years ago. They do things a little differently in orthodontics from when I was a teenager (like you no longer start when you're a teenager), it's one dog and pony show after another with the consults trying very hard to bribe you and get your business. And there are soooo many, and the task of parsing through the unreal amount of orthos out there was so daunting that I stuck my head in the sand. Meanwhile my son's teeth weren't getting any straighter. Finally, based on a friend's recommendation I went with Dr. Lucas. What a great payoff that gamble was. There is alot to love about this practice. ABILITY & BEDSIDE MANNER I love that he's not just board certified but teaches his specialty at an Ivy League college (Penn). Equally important to me, however, is bedside manner. I cannot handle a doctor that I don't feel has the sensitivity, sense of humor, and personality that I need for MYSELF, not to mention my child. I felt immediately at ease with Dr. Lucas, and my son took to him immediately. He's just a really nice person, completely straight with you, amusing without being goofy, professional without being formal, and he really knows how to relate to kids. He's not their buddy but he's also not their boss. He's their doctor, and he truly inspires trust in them. He's seriously a class act. THE CONSULT AND UNDERSTANDING THE DIAGNOSIS & PROGNOSIS This can be so confusing, but Dr. Lucas and his staff made it very understandable without confusing me, using buzzwords I didn't understand, or making me feel stupid. And there's alot to feel stupid about, cuz this is a highly specialized world I've never been part of. But they explained everything without a sales pitch, bribes, or arrogance. They start by taking teeth photos w/special equipment, and I was really impressed with how they mitigated potential anxiety in my son. So kind and funny. Then they show you the pix, and Dr. Lucas explains the dx, how it happens, how it's fixed, and options in braces & apparatus It was very clear, and that's so important -- having things explained properly so that you understand but don't feel like an idiot. CLINICAL ASSISTANTS These Clinical Orthodontic Assistants will make or break your experience, and while you generally expect a bad apple somewhere, there isn't a single bruise in the bunch. It's not as simple as braces, you might need an expander, like my son, or some other pre or post braces apparatus. They were so patient with me, because I could not get the expander to crank (you do this at home nightly for your child). I had to go in a couple times to get them to help me. They could have rolled their eyes at me, but they didn't. Oh yeah, and then there's the braces. They're, ya know, braces. They're what you'd expect. The thing that's important is the person who's putting them on and working with your child. At this office, you'll hit the jackpot. I love all these women, there is no one I "hope" to get, I'll take any one of them, and I think they're wonderful. My son thinks they're wonderful. When he sits there for 10 minutes trying to pick a color for his new bands, they're patient and don't hurry him up (I do!). There are no better. Period. STAFF No better staff on the planet. These people are fantastic. YOu call, they're there. They remember who you are. You can't come in, they work with you. Totally friendly, nice, not at all selly or arrogant. They clearly know what they're doing, like their jobs, or are the best actors ever. I like them, and this is important, cuz if your'e miserable trying to make an appointment, the rest goes downhill from there. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? They're braces. They cost alot. But the financials are all discussed up front at your consult. they tell you exactly what the insurance is and is not going to cover, how many phases of work it will be and why, and they do all this legwork for you, no having to figure it out yourself. They then give you a folder with all the information you need so you can reference it back. There are no hidden fees, when you pay, you pay for the entire phase, and there are no more bills for as long as the phase lasts (far as I know). OFFICE ATMOSPHERE My son can't wait to go. There is a game room with one machine that has a ton of old school Zaxxon type games (that make ME drool) and modern ones, too. Lots of magazines for me, but I rarely use them cuz I go to the chair with my son and watch, which they are happy to have you do. Water bottles for all, and monthly contests for the kids. I really appreciate that there's no buying me off, they are focused on the care while giving you a good experience. Yes, a few perks, but it's not all out bribery and arrogant fluff. You cannot go wrong with this practice, I couldn't be happier. I seriously trust Dr. Lucas and his staff to the moon and back. read more
