I love the wine from Lucas, but cant always get the ones I want locally, and pray they show up to Winefest every year. So, naturally, I made sure this was the 1st stop on my stay this weekend. The people are great! I showed up a little early (before they officially open) but they had no issues accommodating my husband & I. The wine is a dry drinkers dream, fyi. Do I need to tell you that we left there with a case & joined their wine club? I specifically went to pick up a wine named Miss Chevious (part of their "naughty" wine selection), its an unlocked Chardonnay that is A MUST HAVE! The rosé, so delicious my husband said "we need at least 3". We sat with our glass while they boxed our case&looked around. The Chardonnay was excellent and the staff was very helpful in helping us to box our purchases for travel.

The ambiance is beautiful. The wines are solid, and we especially enjoyed the Lucas Blues. One member of the staff was lovely. However, the person working the tasting table was downright rude and dismissive. I would likely not return just because this person ruined our experience for the entire group. read more

Maybe it was the dreary rainy day, or the fact that his was winery #4 on our stop, but sadly not too much stood out as wow from this winery. The girls working there seemed to not care much about their jobs or the fact that they were there. The wine was just eh. Most of them tasted too bitter or bland (didn't know that was possible with wine?) for our liking. We started by sharing one flight but then my friend wanted to try more whites so we added another. Seemed like we should have stopped after the first. One nice thing is they give you a "welcome" taster which is basically the 5th wine sample. If you want to choose your own they let you sub that. Venue was superb- outdoor seating overlooking the land and lake. Impressed by the hours- open 7 days! Even more impressed by them staying open when there were about three tables on a slow weekday afternoon. TBH that made it even more attractive for us. Staff was very friendly, willing to chat about the wines and history as we wished. Among other things they have a tugboat family history and when our table had a question about that; the server (granddaughter of the owners!) took the time to call her grandfather to answer our questions. That's pretty personal service! As for the wines- thoroughly enjoyed the flight options- definitely recommend the wine and chocolate flight as a fun and delicious option. The other flights were accompanied by small oyster cracker packets. Hardly worth providing as a cracker option. You can purchase crackers, dips, chips separately. Note-purchase of a flight gets you a $5 discount on purchases and there are also discounts for purchases of 6+ bottles. A lesson in customer service, and just in general, to not be a horrible human- wait until you are sure your customers have left before you talk shit about them. We went here as a celebration of life for my aunt who passed three weeks ago. There were about ten of us, three generations of family, enjoying a good time. My mom went to the bathroom as we all cleaned up our tables, said our goodbyes, and went into the parking lot. When my mom came out, heard the older server lady saying horrible, nasty and slightly racist things about our table. My mom was so upset - and I know it's on us how we take situations, but it was completely unnecessary for that to happen. I hope the owner reads this and knows how their staff treat people, especially those that don't look the same as them. Outside of that, we really enjoyed their champagne, but their frozen drinks were akin to slurpees and they have a very limited selection of things to eat. The other places we visited were far superior, especially in how they treat people. read more

We traveled to the Finger Lakes for our second visit in 2 years. This was our first time at Lucas Vineyards. They did a wonderful job, provided us both with a wine glass and a choice of the wines that we selected. They bring them out to you at the picnic table. Nice service, good wine, very professional. We came on the Sunday after Independence Day, and it was a steady flow of tasters, with Luna Food Truck out back, but that's another review. Nice view with a few peaks at the lake through the trees. This one on my day 2 of the trip is my favorite after hitting up about a dozen wineries and breweries. $3 tasting with 4 they recommend and 3 that you select. That is a bargain considering all the other tastings were at least $5 for 5. Plus if you check into yelp, you get the supplemental reserve wine for free . My favorite is their famous tug boat white, red and sangria in which I bought the 1.5L bottles. Best value ever for the extra $5 double the volume and if you get 6 bottles you get 10% off. First time there, brought my 1.5 year old German shepherd and had a great time. Welcomed while handling my excited guy, best part was when the owner? Offered him a jumbo sized biscuit. Finally had a chance to try this vineyard as I am admittedly very loyal to the ones I usually go to. They have a beautiful grounds and a lovely interior tasting room and views of the lake. During COVID they had a nice area set up outside with tastings brought outside to you with that excellent view of the lake. Service was very good and everybody was very friendly. They did a very nice job of keeping things cleaned and sanitized providing your own cup, samples in plastic disposable containers, and near constant wiping and sanitizing of tables and common spaces. Rude staff - refused service after asking about coupons. Our large bachelorette group had coupons for tastings which had no expiration date on them, but we were told they were expired. Their explanations as to why they wouldn't honor the coupons were rude and condescending. "Call the coupon police" Even after all of this, we were still open to staying and paying full price, but were told that we "clearly wouldn't enjoy the experience" there and that we should leave. I stopped here, along with several other wineries along the Cayuga lake wine trail. Lucas Vineyards was definitely one of the more crowded ones when I went. They were doing a bit of crowd control and did put a sign out front when they reached 'capacity' but it still was decently crowded in their indoor area (and I'm mentioning this because I visited in October 2020....) Inside you select the tastings and food you want and pay. They give you a table sign and ask that you seat yourself outside and your order will be brought over to you. This was pretty convenient. Outside spacing was better. They have Adirondack chairs and small tables, some picnic tables and maybe one or two other types of seating set ups. They have little signs on each table that indicate if it's just been cleaned or if another group just got up, so when you leave you are supposed to flip the sign to 'dirty' so staff know to clean it and other guests know not to sit yet. This was smart and this was the only winery I saw this at on my trip. They have a decent variety of wine, flight options and snacks. I wouldn't say their wine was my favorite but it was decent. Prices are about average. The outdoor area has a very lovely view. I hope to go back sometime post-pandemic to get the full experience. read more

We walked in and we're not greeted at all. Walked around the shop a bit and there was a tasting area that looked like a cafeteria. Two gentlemen were at a table and were chatting with the server. Chatter about not being vaccinated against Covid (server wore no mask) and how it hit the industry - about 10 minutes go by. Nothing about wine - just covid. She says she's not even interested in working. No acknowledgement of us - still. We are the only other people there until one gentleman walks in. There are about 5 other tables and all are cleared except one. Server tells her customers "well, I'm just going to mozey over here....". So I say to my husband "it'd be great if she ''mozied' over here and helped us". And - she heard me. She glared daggers at me and said "I'm going to finish what I'm doing and then I'll help whoever is next". There's two of us and the one guy who was alone and I think just had a question. The tasting glasses looked like medicine cups and she proceeds to walk them one at a time from table to garbage. Several minutes go by as she slow motion clears the one table. This obviously wasn't going to go well so we left. There are so many fantastic wineries nearby and we visited several during our trip whowere happy we were there. We always love coming here! We love the wines and it's a friendly atmosphere. Our first visit 2-3 years ago was the most fun and welcoming, but that great first experience keeps us coming back for more. We really enjoy the wines, and highly recommend the sangria recipe... we find making our own is even better than the one they have started to bottle. The view is beautiful of course, as well. We always take a family photo on our way out. The shop has some fun trinkets as well. I love their wine caps/stoppers as well. read more

Lucas is a must go to family Owned winery! We go every time we are in the Ovid/Interlaken area and have introduced many of our friends. There is usually a family member on staff any day you go. Always a greeter at the entrance by the register to answer any questions you may have. They've had to switch up how the serve due to COVID but my favorite is still the Sangria!! I love the stories behind the winery and how the come up with their wine names. We make this our last stop as we really like their sweet wines which can be rough to go from those to not so sweet. I had a great time at this one - their tasting was a little confusing, but we ended up tasting a pretty solid number of wines, for not very much money ($3 a person). It was super chill (though we were there midweek - might not be on the weekend), and all the wine we tried was at least "good". I went to Lucas Vineyards Winery on 8/16/15 while vacationing in the Finger Lakes. Lucas is the oldest vineyard on that side of the lake I was visiting. The server for the tasting was very knowledgeable about the wines and as well as very professional. I also loved how the vineyard names its wines after the founder's daughters and has a nautical theme. Lucas is not receiving a 4 star (but a 3 star because of the knowledgeable and professional service) rating because their "brand" was a little confusing to me. The wine selection (fruit, dry, reds) jumped all over the map and frankly none of them stood out to me. I also didn't love the gift shop. It had way too many chach keys for me that didn't have anything to do with wine (e.g. football merchandise). In a nutshell, if you happen to be in the area I wouldn't say to avoid it but wasn't my favorite when compared to some of the other tasting experiences I had in the area. read more

Every time that I have gone here the staff has been horrible. I don't know why it is like that but its unfortunate. There are other places around that actually want your business. This winery pours a very small amount of wine for a tasting. Barely enough for evaluation. You will not be able to share at all for a second opinion. Wines fall between 3 to 3.5/5 on average. Lucas is always one of the must stop wineries on a Cayuga Lake wine tour. Not only are the facilities top notch... beautiful tasting room, mature vines, open field for a picnic... but the wines are solid too. While most of the wines are not my taste any more (my palette has matured), they are generally fan favorites, especially for novice wine drinkers. Lucas specializes in sweeter white wines. The must taste wines are the "Nautie" wines that include Miss Adventurous, Miss Behavin', and Miss Chevious. These are all white wines and two of the three are on the sweet side. The fun part about stopping by the tasting room is that there is a chance that you might bump into one of the women on the labels (they are part owners of the winery). I did have a signed bottle on my mantle for about a year! read more
