We ate at Lucca Grill on our way to Michigan. We ordered a Caesar salad, the lemon butter shrimp pasta and the fettuccini add chicken. The Caesar dressing is made in house and it is AMAZING. We both ordered an extra side of the dressing. My sisters Lemon butter pasta was really good-nice and light. My fettuccine was good- I love that the chicken was sliced thin. The sauce could have had a little more spice or flavor for me but it was a good sauce. Mitch was a great waiter, joked around with us and told us about some history of the place. The charm is unmatched. Lots of college flags, and art on the wall. The restaurant is actually two levels with the kitchen being on the top level and they use the functional dumbwaiter to bring food down which is super cool. read more

The restaurant was pretty packed and busy when I arrived, so there was a bit of a wait for a table which I didn't mind. Ordered an appetizer, the garlic bread, that was delicious. The downside was that you have to pay extra for cheese on top and other additions. Our main meals weren't quite as great either. I made a carry-out order here. I had the Lois sandwich (with a side of the patatine potato chips) and mozzarella sticks. I was reading a bunch of reviews on here raving about the food, however actually having a bite was another story. It was just all right. I am not a big guy and usually eat about 3-4 slices max of any pizza.....except when I visit Lucca! I can scarf the entire good size pizza down in one sitting and have never regretted my visit to Bloomington for that fact that I know what is in store for dinner and where. Great upbeat service, old school cool atmosphere, cold cold drinks and stellar pizza. I may never try the other dishes because I don't want to miss the pizza opportunity. Great place! Pasta and pizza are both amazing and the service is impeccable! Definitely one of the best places in town!

Stopped in Bloomington and had never eaten in town. We searched pizza and this place came up. We went in on Tuesday night and the place was full. When they asked if we had reservations, we thought uh oh. But they sent us upstairs where we met Ira. He was awesome gave us trivia and history of the restaurant which was super cool. We ordered fried ravioli, bread sticks and cheese pizza. We also ordered the ALa Baldini pizza and Ira told us that anchovies were on the original so we added those. The place filled up bu Ira took time to check on us and tell us other little facts like they have a guy who mostly makes all the dough. The food was delicious. 3 stars a bit on the high side from our takeout experience. Had the La Baldini pizza which was very good but not out of the park by Chicago standards (yes we are pizza snobs). Had the plain cheese which really had very little taste and was quite burned at the edges. Cesar salad consisted of a escarole salad mix drizzled with their home made dressing which was ok. Four to five large croutons at the corners and that was it. Salad mix had some bad spots in it - time to grab a new bag! Ordering takeout at the restaurant is strange - they wouldn't take a number to call or text to tell you when the order is up. It's just "stop by in 35 minutes and it should be ready". Area nearby isn't especially interesting either although the bar area and small dining room had a lot of character and staff was at least kind. read more

One of my favorite places in Bloomington. Best thin crust pizza (A La Baldini is the best!) served hot and fresh from a huge pizza oven. Great old fashioned pizza joint atmosphere and super friendly staff. For apps get the hot garlic cheese bread. Lots of beers to pick from and served with a little water glass. read more

In all honesty I feel like I have to come clean in admitting that over the years we have gotten to know the management team at Lucca pretty well. Johnny and Tony are now like old friends to us, but that is part of the point here. Especially at the bar (where we actually prefer to sit unless we're with a big crowd), going to Lucca is like going to a buddy's house, a buddy with an large classic pizza oven - circa 1940's - that still kicks butt and takes names! Not only has their cracker crust converted this Chicago style deep dish lover, their appetizers (fried ravs and believe it or not, parmesan wings) and entrees (canneloni) are top-notch and the beer selection is a small but very well-represented one. Its because of these things we been going a couple times a month for the last several years and at this point we feel like extended family. The best Pizza. The service is professional and friendly. It is a bar but the restaurant it's self is really the reason to go.

The wife and I took her nephew here for a late lunch while visiting him at ISU. The restaurant/bar has nice ambience, a long wooden bar, and interesting wall hangings, including college banners from all over the USA. The wife and nephew shared a sausage, mushroom and green pepper. It was crispy and not greasy. There were no weird rock hard chunks in the sausage, which is unusual. The garlic bread is advertised as coming with marinara sauce, but actually comes with delicious pasta sauce with chunks of vegetable in it. I had a cup of chili and chicken Caesar salad. Both were good. My only complaint is that server seemed too eager to be rid of us. She put down the bill without asking if we were done and tossed a carry out container nearly on top of the leftover pizza. read more

First, let me start by saying that I definitely recommend eating downstairs in the bar area - its so cool! The food was really good and absolutely hit the spot. We did order the chicken livers because it seemed to be a favorite. While it was good, there were a few of the bigger pieces that were not cooked all the way through. Definitely order the pizza!! We did a custom one and we loved it! I love a thin, crispy crust, and this was perfect. The alfredo was also good (the chicken was burnt though) and the baked ziti was amazing! Ordered Alfredo fettuccine, side salad, ravioli, spaghetti with meatball and a pizza. The pizza was good. They left out the bread that comes with the pasta. The spaghetti was ok but hard to taste due to so much water in the pasta noodles which watered the whole pasta down. The side salad , which I knew what I was getting , was nothing more then a mixed medley of lettuce and ranch that taste generic. Would not recommend. The price was t worth the value. read more
