One of the nicest restaurants in town, and a regular choice for a special night out. The food is fantastic and they rotate some items on the menu depending on the season. Breads, dipping sauce and a wonderful salad accompany the entrees. Great wine selection and for dessert they have the best tiramisu ever. August, 2018. Loved this place. A real find in Helena. Cozy, authentic and friendly staff. The amuse buche was an unexpected treat. Great wine list and delicious food (albeit very large portions). This wonderful spot , owned by a local fireman and his wife, serves great Italian food - the paperdelle bolognase was fab as was the lasagna. The leftovers were great the next day! Our waitress and the manager were friendly and made you feel at home and welcome. When in Helena, Luca is a must! I'd even say it's destination dining if you are in MT. My husband and I took his parents out to dinner on Saturday night while they were in town from AZ. Made a reservation just two days prior with no problem. (Left a message and was contacted shortly after with confirmation of time.) We were seated right away and the Gloriousness began. We shared the cheese artichoke dip that was Delicious and then the four of us had manicotti, lasagna, swordfish and scallops with shrimp. Everything was Divine and our server was top notch! While I always love lucca's food, I don't always love their vibe. Tonight the creepy dude, that drinks wine in the corner and seats people, had a low profile. It was great! We went out to Lucca's for our 6th anniversary after moving to Helena only 6 months ago. We chose Lucca's based on online reviews. We were not disappointed! Every detail from the amuse bouche to the dessert was balanced, delicious, and well-thought out. We shared the crab and artichoke appetizer, which was wildly flavorful and the crostini was perfectly crisp. The complimentary bread with sun-dried tomato spread and balsamic dipping sauce was also to die for. The salad of arugula and spinach came with dried cranberries and a nice peach vinegrette dressing and some kind of cheese on top (I can't remember what kind). We noted that it was also seasoned. You know how arugula and spinach can sometimes be bitter? This was not; even my husband and I who usually sort of set the salad aside thinking we want to save room for the "good stuff" or the entree, ate every bite served to us. My husband had one of the specials, an 8 oz tenderloin with a shallot butter and the orzo. I had the pork chop with apple. Again, all of these things were so well balanced and delicious - we were so impressed! The only thing that was a little lack-luster were the side veggies; they were still a bit more crisp than I would typically like and they lacked the robust flavor that every other element had encompassed. But the portions were generous and neither of us felt cheated by the lack-luster veggies. After the entree, we were both so full that we just knew we didn't have room for dessert. Because everything to this point had been so incredible, we had to ask what they had - just in case. We couldn't resist the raspberry white chocolate panna cotta and, again, we were so impressed. Both raspberry and white chocolate have the potential to be overwhelming, but this chef knows balance. Everything was just so incredibly balanced and delicious. Lucca's, you've definitely won our hearts as our official anniversary restaurant. And likely every special date we can get away from the kids and afford a really nice dinner. After enjoying every single course there was to offer, sparing nothing that we could want because it was a special date, we still rang in under $100 (minus tip of course because the service was also incredible). Worth it. Worth every single penny. Oh! I almost forgot to mention. We don't drink, but they had a very elaborate selection of wines and even offered to let us taste one. That seemed very classy and nice. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy my nonalcoholic mixed drink - a huckleberry cream Italian soda. Seriously, I'm the kind of person that kind of drinks several glasses of my soda during a meal, sips water here and there, but this flavor was just so wonderful - it lasted me my entire meal right up until the panna cotta came. I didn't NEED to drink it quickly. It was just so satisfying and great that I just wanted to savor each sip. Again, that balance. We will surely be back! read more

I would have to say this is one of the best if not the best restaurant in Helena. I enjoy a nice, and quiet dinner at times and Lucca's hasn't disappointed me. The lamb was amazing, the lasagna is great, they don't over spice like most places do and the staff is great. The deserts are fantastic as well. I'm not a desert guy but I usually get one at Lucca's. Overall this was a great experience. The service was impeccable, and the food was on point. Only slight missteps (needed seasoning on the amuse bouche) were mere whispers to the overall experience. It is so refreshing to have a restaurant focus on the experience of a great meal and not just follow the most profitable trends. I travel around Montana, Wyoming and Colorado for work and therefore I eat within restaurants more than I eat at home. The food is good, but maybe a little over priced for what you get. Decent atmosphere but nearing the end of dinner we could hear the music from the Rialto next door. Every time a waitress or waiter had to get a mixed drink or beer, the music got considerably louder when the door swung open (They share a liquor license so the staff needs to go to the bar at the Rialto to get drinks). Our group agreed that for the price, there are better options in town. read more

Lucca's is an altogether wonderful experience. Exceptional and unpretentious service with well-paced courses allowed us to enjoy inspired dishes and a really great bottle of wine. We ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer which was superb. Mushrooms were meaty and flavorful, stuffed with buttery melting fontina and crispy pancetta. My husband ordered the pork chop, medium with the polenta side and declared it to be the best he has ever had. It was juicy, tender and flavorful complimented by sauteed apples that were perfectly sweet. It was a double rib chop and a satisfying portion. I ordered the scallop and white shrimp pasta dish, also wonderful and well crafted with a subtle and barely sweet citrus cream sauce that paired perfectly with the seafood and pasta without being too rich or overpowering. Earthy mushrooms and fresh parsley added complexity while complimenting the velvety sauce. We finished with house made tiramisu accompanied by, surprisingly, spearmint infused whipped cream. Truly exceptional. Worth mentioning is the French press decaf with a good dose of cream. Strong and smooth, it was the perfect way to end a wonderful meal. Thanks Lucca's. I highly recommend any of the pasta dishes, but they also prepare steaks, chicken, pork and seafood perfectly (I've tried just about everything on the menu and have absolutely never been disappointed). My only complaint is that it can be difficult to get a reservation if you don't plan ahead, but that just means it's no secret how fantastic this restaurant is. I have to tell you that I'm aware that Lucca's has been recently touted as the best restaurant in Montana and that is why we decided to give it another chance. In years past their food has been spotty and their portions ridiculously small. We went in and were greeted graciously. Our server was amazing extremely professional above and beyond for Montana. the prices at Lucca's are extremely high but it was a special occasion so we decided that we'd Overlook that for a fine dining experience. They were not busy which was surprising . The complimentary appetizer and the salad and bread were delicious . It took forever for our entrees to arrive 30 minutes. Our entrées finally came and were served and they were cold. I mean really cold. We immediately told our server and she took things away meanwhile we could hear the microwave going off and on in the background. Then they were brought back right away. I took a bite from The Edge and it was warm so I said it was okay but as I ate into the dish it was still cool in the middle. By then it was extremely late and we decided it was time to go. While our waitress was embarrassed and gracious management did nothing to compensate us. We will not be going back which is a shame. read more

At the end of a long travel day, we checked into the Holiday Inn and Lucca's was recommended. It was on the same block so we walked over in less than a minute. Tina was our server and she was wonderful. The bread was great and we particularly enjoyed the sun dried tomato butter. We split the bow tie chicken Alfredo after we had this absolutely amazing salad. Tina mentioned it was made with a cucumber dressing. We even splurged on dessert because everything was so tasty. My partner had the tiramisu which he raved about and I had the lemon "pudding". (I can't remember the correct name.). It was light and lemony with lemon zest. Chances of us being back here are extremely slim as we live in Maryland, but we would come back again if we lived nearby. This has been our best meal since our trip began 8 days ago. read more

We are from the San Francisco bay area in California. We were visiting family in Helena and had been warned this was the only restaurant that would meet my standards. So true. We ate here after four lunches and dinners in places that were considered good for Helena. The others were just OK. Lucca's is considered the best restaurant in Helena. Lucca's was great. Very professional service. Great cocktails -- made in the bar next door. An appetizer, just baked bread, and a wonderful salad were included. All of us loved our main courses (I had the veal) . We had an outstanding meal last Friday night. Starting with the mussels that were done perfectly. Each one buttery tender with that great pesto broth. The main course for me was the braised short ribs. You rarely see these offered mainly because they require long cooking times. We had one day in town and told them, but they didn't care; Lucca blew it. Sadly, we can't report on the food/wine because why? WE DIDN'T HAVE A RESERVATION? My husband and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary last night at Lucca's. We are from Georgia and have been in Helena on business for weeks. This is probably the most amazing dining experience we have had in years!! We were seated as soon as we arrived...we did have reservations! Our server was fabulous! I think her name is Sierra?? Sorry if that is incorrect! She explained the menu and got our cocktail immediately. She (and someone else there) helped us choose an Italian wine that would compliment our meal. By the way, the wine was a perfect choice!! The baked fontina cheese appetizer was delicious. Trying to figure out how to make it at home!! Salad was spectacular as well!! I ordered the scallops and shrimp entree while my husband chose the veal. They were divine!! Since it was a special day we ordered two desserts.... No words to describe how fabulous they were!! Strawberry shortcake and Turtle Chocolate cake....YUMMY!! My husband and I love a fine restaurant experience and have been to many over the years. This one will rank up there in the top 5 for sure!! We were allowed to enjoy the evening without being rushed. We had time to enjoy each and every bite with time in between to have great conversation!! So...kudos to Lucca's for making our 32nd anniversary a night to remember!! We are only here one more week and I'm hoping we can eat there one more time before we fly back to Georgia :) read more

I really wanted to love this place. I made reservations from Seattle two weeks in advance. The service was impeccable. The wine list was decent. The amuse-bouche, bread and salad were delicious. Unfortunately, the main courses were not amazing. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo was dry and uninspired. The risotto was a over-salted.
