I saw unspeakable things and loved every second of it. I was more than drunk but went with my teetotaler pal and who had the same experience. The whole night we kept looking at each other and saying "I have no words". It was raunchy, it was surreal, it was awesome. Lucha VaVoom was definitely the most entertaining way I've spent Cinco de Mayo. The show alternates between folklorico, strip tease and lucha libre. Some acts were funnier than the others and some were just downright bizarre. My favorite part was when Crazy Chickens wrestled against evil luchadors. I'm embarrassed to admit that I could not help but scream like a 15 year old girl at a Justin Bieber concert when little Crazy Chicken came out. Maybe it's their "cute" costume, or maybe it's their catchy theme song and dance, either way, they really know how to work the crowd! We sat behind the ring, which was a great spot to watch wrestling but not for folklorico and strip tease. I think the best spot was in front of the stage (standing only). If you want to take part in the action, stay on the right area of the stage where all the performers stand by and get ready. After the show, they dismantled the stage and ring to open up the dance floor. There were 2 types of music: Latin music on the main dance floor and electro/house type of music on the 3rd floor. After reading one reviewer, I have to add that there are 2 bathrooms in the venue. Also, at the beginning and end of the show, they were playing BANDA music not house. read more

How often do you have to scatter out of the way because of a flying man dressed as a chicken or splashed by baby oil while "Pina Coladas" is blaring overhead? Mix in Rolling Stone songs covered in Spanish with hulla hooping boys, add a dash of jokes about girls from Silverlake, splash an amazing old theatre, toss with wrestlers of all shapes, sizes and colors, wipe in some Dirty Sanchez, and toss with large eye lashes and you get Lucha Vavoom. Just go. One negative thing. The bar isn't that great. They don't always charge the same nor mix the drinks the same and I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable leaving a tab open. Oh. My. God. Never did I ever expect what I walked into at Lucha VaVoom. Imagine circus meets burlesque meets wrestling. My friend had an extra ticket to the Lucha VaVoom event downtown at the Mayan which she so graciously offered to me. Never having been to an actual Mexican wrestling event, I jumped on the opportunity. After battling nightly rush hour traffic heading West to East, we finally arrived downtown. FYI there isn't parking so make sure to bring cash to park in a lot. I was amazed by the size of the venue when I walked in. It's enormous. And on top of that, it was packed. Who knew there were so many Lucha fans in the great Los Angeles area?! We had VIP seating so we were up close and right in the action. First up was a match between a man in fluorescent pink brief bottoms, a dude in tasseled red undies and a guy in an all white onsie with a fake pubic hair bush conveniently stuck to his private area. I wouldn't call it wrestling so much as a mixture of dancing, inappropriate human configurations and absurdity. I loved every minute of it. Every single minute. In between matches a burlesque dancer would come out give a sexy striptease for the audience. One dressed like count Dracula's wife, the other like a ghost. But no matter what their costume, they all ended up in pasties and panties. We even got the added bonus of seeing a nip when one of the dancers' boobie tassels fell off mid-performance. The rest of the evening included throwing of scantily clad little people (referred to as "The Minis"), crazy chickens running fighting the Chupacabra with this marvelous chicken dance song playing (which I of course later found online and downloaded) and many vodka sodas. Unless you are easily offended, you NEED to go to this. GO GO GO. It's inappropriate, hysterical and completely unPC. Incredibly fun event, definitely worth the price of admission. Paid $55/ticket for ringside seats. get there early if you want to secure some for yourself. We ended up sitting behind the ring which made it hard to hear the announcers/comedian and most of the pre-fight shenanigans happens in front of the stage. Only sat for first half and walked around for a better view from the front. Be prepared for No food and $13 cocktails as well as $20 parking next to venue, however I did see $10 parking three blocks away. I would definitely go back, and hope the next time is a different theme, they did great with the Horror Story show this time around. This is A MUST DO event for Angelenos. read more

Luch Vavoom 13 . . . rocked my socks off! My favorite gal pal and I (Josie) ventured out into the night and enetered a world of mexican masked wrestlers, burlesque dancers and habitual drunks . . . Oh' Joy! At first I not only had to convince Josie to come with me, I had to twist her arm. By the end of the night she was so grateful to me for having done so. Once we arrived, we did not know where to begin. So we headed to the bar (always a sure bet). Then we watched whatever ricdiculousl act was going on! I beleive it was . . . This was one of the funnest nights I've had since Monday! This is a fun, over the top, WWF meets Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling, combined with a burlesque show and satirical exotic revue. It was a fun show to watch, fun to take the significant other to either make a good date night, a way to spice up the ralationship or just plain ol fashioned drunk and obnoxious fun in downtown. The tickets are very pricey in my opinion given the theatrical performances that take place, and the "wrestling" is average at best. They didn't do the best job keeping your attention and the seating in GA is first come first serve standing room only, which I knew before hand and tried to avoid having an issue finding a seat but of course Los Angeles did not let me be so lucky, arrived about a half hour late and was forced to sit on the steps in one of the aisles, which forced me and my gf to have to look around people standing in front of us and move when anyone in the audience needed to use the aisle to go somewhere. Overall I didnt have the time I was expecting, somewhat of a routine and mostly boring way to have a different kind of fun in LA. It is fun for the fact that it is a unique, one of a kind sort of thing in its own right, but I think once is enough for me. read more

Just like Aunny D. my finace and I went to Lucha for Valentine's Day. It was the best V. Day ever! We had great seating at a table in the little bar area they have set up at the top of the balcony. I loved watching the burlesque dancers and it wasn't hard at all to watch the wrestling on the huge screens they have hanging. My second experience, in march, got me closer to the ring! Ringside seats baby! This time, with a few friends, I saw all the action up close, and yes my friends and I had to get out of the way quick or get squished by flying wrestlers. I still love the burlesque performers, and the male stripper as the Colonel Sanders himself was finger lickin good! :) The downside? Expensive drinks. Lines for the girlsroom and not very clean. I love the Lucha! Then again I was always a huge wrestling nerd as a kid. Get me around a couple big guys pretending to beat the crap out of each other and I am as happy as a clam. Lucha-VAVOOM! Lucha-VAVOOM! Lucha-VAVOOM! It really breaks my heart that I didn't enjoy LuchaVaVOOM as much as I wanted to. I absolutely adore the Mayan Theatre setup and the whole concept, but execution of the event was not so thrilling. Let me breakdown the three parts that you're supposed to be getting: 1. Lucha Libre: Cheesy beyond belief. Now I know that wrestling is fake and everything but this was just silly. But, I can imagine if I got ring-side tickets and got super smashed I would be having a ball. You definitely should get hammered and get ring-side tickets. Bring your raunchy side and plan to be rowdy to really get into the mood. We got to see Dirty Sanchez and yes, there was "poop" involved. Orale! 2. Burlesque Show: Meh. The girls are hot, but the dancing and excessive whipping of their hair back and forward was meh. But, I did like that one chicks glittery AK-47 toy. 3. Comedy Show: Hmmm. I surely don't remember laughing. All in all, it's definitely something that Angelenos need to check out. The concept is great but I feel like they need to spice it up a little. I must say... this is unlike anything I have ever experienced before! I've never even watched wrestling on television or live for that matter. Do not be deceived though, there is nothing about this show a wrestling sport enthusiast will find competitive. You are guaranteed to be entertained by some of the most unusual performances - bordering taboo fetishes, and you will be required to belt out the occasional 'VA-VOOM!' when prompted by a spontaneous 'Lucha'. By the middle of the show I would advise to be near drunk and you will have a grand old time! As I have learned from my date... do not, by any means, think this is a great idea for a first date. Some of you may think it's 'fun' or a great way to see if your date is a great match for you, provided they can take a joke, but taking a girl on a first date here is almost like taking her to a strip club of midgets. There's a taco stand across the street and the bathroom ladies sell all kinds of goodies. Beer is actually sold in cans, which is convenient. AMAZING. I had so much fun! I could watch Los Crazy Chickens and Lil' Chicken for days. The Buxoticas were sexy and confident. The hula hoop act was definetly my favorite. And there was a pogo stick act that left me in awe- those were some serious thigh muscles. The comedians, the wresting, and the dancers all knew how to put on a great show. The balcony seats got uncomfortable after a few hours so I think next time I'll get ringside seats. It'd be great with a big group of friends too. I can't wait til the next show! read more

i've been dying to go and i have to say the wait was well worth it. The bar was open all night, the mariachi band was jamming out side. Then you enter and center stage is the Ring. Once it starts they explain all about Lucha libra wrestling Then it starts so the order goes, striptease, lucha libra wrestling, striptease, They do switch up the striptease, there are two males they do a strip the first one is funny a cowboy on a horsepogo stick and the other male tears it up with a hulu hoop. The women work there thing and end up with tassels and a thong. The Lucha Libra's all have great costumes and theme music, they put on a great show and the MC's did a good job keeping the crowd laughing. FYI pay a little extra and get the seats close to the ring, but be prepared to catch a flying Lucha Libra read more

Reading these reviews makes me feel like I must be impossible to entertain, which I know is not true. The show has some fun highlights and out of the two hours I would say I was really entertained for 30-40 minutes. Everyone knows the wrestling is fake but the guys weren't even attempting to make it look like they were landing their punches. And there was a lot of down time in the match, I needed to see more acrobatics, because that's basically what these guys are. The best match was the last one with Cassandro, he was hilarious. As for the Vavoom part, every act had it's highlight but the pacing was all wrong except for Karis- the last act -who stole the show as far as I was concerned. But they all had their messy moments, is it too much to ask for professional perfection? I thought burlesque was about more than just standing around, shimmying for a few minutes then revealing your pasties. Yawn. In short, see it if you must, but if you don't have a burning desire to see it, skip it. Also if you get the $30 tickets go early so you can get the seats in front of the railing before you enter the 'ringside', sitting upstairs hurts your ass and the view is much better from there. read more

I had mixed feeling about writing a review on this show. I had tried really hard to find reasons to ding this event and I came up with a couple. I even admit that I haven't gone to this event in a year or so...and only because one of the dancers got me in..and before that it had probably been at least about a year since I had attended my last Lucha Vavoom... now prior to this I was all over it....I had attended the 2nd ever Lucha VaVoom and was in love from the start...( i have attended about 6+ shows, i'd have to check the tickets i've saved) I openly admit that anything that becomes "big" turns me off, and that was one reason I stopped going...the event blew up!!!...sold out...and was packed the the brim with people. Now, when i was attending it at the begining I was happy...I was meeting people who were in love with Lucha Libre...or loved burlesque. It was fun and there were alot of locals you saw at other shows. BUT THEN...I really dug deeper and realized that all of you guys trashing the show because of the crowd are wrong...the show itself is wonderful...the action is live! and if you know anything about lucha libre you would also realize that they often bring legendary names into the rings for your pleasure...this sprinkling of the spanish language was for you...because in true...lucha libre is the most celebrated mexican sport of all time! seeing it completely in english?......is like saying taco bell is legit mexican food. so don't hate on the real. The burlesque is always fun...some of the girls I know and some of them deserve the loud cheers and hoots from the drooling crowd... and lets not forget the locals who come out from other wrestling federations in california to display some of the hard work and skills they bring from their home to the Lucha VaVoom crowd. there is alot to considered when rating this show...and things have changed since i was going...I used to get there early and always grabbed a table...but even then..there was room to walk around in... the last time i went...you were lucky if you didn't get a cramp in your neck from trying to peek over the person in front of you... my point being...this is the sorta stuff that happens when shows hit big...and I am very proud to say that Los Angeles has one of the best lucha./burlesque shows around. I LOVE LUCHA VA VOOM! I first came to Lucha Va Voom back in April with my cousin. We got cheap seats, and even then I thought it was awesome. Fast forward to Halloween '08. I took my boyfriend there for the Halloween show and he was blown away! This time I got very good seats. We had a great time! The drinks a bit too expensive, but the show was awesome. There was a stripper dressed as Prince, which I thought was seriously twisted. Interesting, but twisted. I think if you see the show's title "Lucha Vavoom", you should definitely expect Mexican wrestlers and the use of Spanish. If you don't like either, don't go. It's an awesome date. Ladies, take your men. They'll thank you for it. My boyfriend said, and I quote: "I'm so lucky you're into this!!!" P.S. The bathroom lines, are UNBELIEVABLY LONG. Incredible! Luch VaVOOM changed my life. If you are reading this review and thinking about going- DO IT. The sexo, the violencia, chickens, little people, trannies- all make for a perfect date or a fun night out with a group of friends. We got there around 7:30 and the line was around the block and looked scary, but moved pretty quickly. The line existed because they had a metal detector at the door and they do pat downs. We sat ringside, which was cool, but I wish wish we would have got there earlier to get a table, or to get up close. If you want to be in the action, sit ringside and stage right of the stage. If you want get up close and personal with the wrestlers as they come out- sit stage left in front of the stage. Super easy to get drinks, there were bars everywhere. Coronas were $7.00. There was a waitress working the ringside seats who would take credit cards, but she didn't come enough. Also- the taco stand across the street is perfect for when you've had too many Coronas. read more

Got me and my buddy ringside seats to this spectacular event. What better way to spend Valentines Day then seeing some sexy striptease and luchadores beat each other up. Followed with crude humor from the commentators, with special guest Drew Carey, and alcohol it is a man's paradise. Testosterone levels at the maximum! The Buxoticas (burlesque dancers) started the show off and would come out after every luchador match. They were sexy and got sexier as the night went on. My first time seeing booby tassels and when they spin they were mesmerizing. They sure know how to show the love especially on Valentines Day. Every wrestling match was so funny to watch. Each luchador had their own personas and crazy theme music. From Chocolate Caliente, Dirty Sanchez, and to the Crazy Chickens each one was more hilarious then the next. So much fun seeing them fly all over the ring and even into the crowd. My favorite moment was when Mrs. Dirty Sanchez soiled herself after a devastating butt slam to the ground. Poop jokes never get old. Just a fun and unique experience. Definitely got my moneys worth and I have to come back again. Halloween '13: More than 30 minutes late to stage. No food. Doorman was a d***. Still fun. The deal here is you HAVE TO BE DRUNK, fratboy drunk, otherwise you'll get a little bored since many matches lose the crowd's attention about half-way through and they are not exactly quick to get the dancers out there between matches. Maybe to force people to go back to the bar inbetween? What's not to love about the high school level tech crew. The house lights come up randomly, the camera guys on tripods failed to properly focus, or bump the camera, the entry music for the Luchadors playing at ear splitting volume for half a second when they seem to be winning. The luchadors themselves are fantastic. that is why you go. They fly through the air, in to the crowd, and it is a blast. The burlesque/dancers that they try to have come out between matches are hit-or-miss. One girl on a palm tree pole was fairly talented. I gotta give it to her.
