This place has been re-done in a really good way. It was briefly closed to be for catering only. When it re-opened it was totally revamped. Nice big booths/tables and a salsa bar which has fantastic salsas, cucumbers, carrots/jalapeños and limes. (which ALSO come with the plate! ) Excellent value. The (three) taco plate is FILLED with meat of choice. It is more like 5 normal tacos considering the amount of meat they serve. It comes with chips and salsa as well. ALL of their salsas are excellent. Very little to critique here as the tacos come out FAST. (not crisped on the flat-top first which takes longer) If I had one complaint it would be that the music they listen to on the TV is LOUD. But I guess it makes them happy. I wasn't expecting much at first because the chips and salsa they brought out were stale, which wasn't a great start. However, the quesabirrias completely changed my mind. They were delicious, and I especially loved the tortillas--they were flavorful, fresh, and had a great texture. Despite the disappointing chips, the quesabirrias made the visit worthwhile. Not the greatest quality and service is way too slow. Lunch time and it wasn't busy, took 35-40 minutes for breakfast burrito. I have been here twice and the same problem both times. Probably go somewhere else until they get more staff and better quality. read more

Y'all, this place is disgusting. My husband loves Mexican food and wanted to find a new local spot to love, so we popped in here. It was completely empty at dinner time, which probably should've been our first red flag. We placed an order for chicken tacos and chicken fajitas. My husband said the salsa was rancid. I didn't believe him until I saw the container was about to burst because of the fermentation. My chicken was pink on the inside. I was sick for hours that night. I don't like to leave bad reviews at small businesses, but this place needs to be inspected by the health inspector. Stay away. read more

After visiting my dentist I found myself feeling very hungry. Directly across the street from my dentist's office is Cali-mex cuisine. I took a moment to browse their fairly extensive menu and selected the crab/shrimp empanadas. There was no mention of cheese but these deep fried treats were full of it!! The empanadas were delicious! Hot with a crispy and flaky crust. I ordered two empanadas which were very filling. The chips and sals and Pico were refreshing. The staff were pleasant and focused on customer service. Somehow the knew it was my 1st time here!! The vibe here is clean and collegiate. Swung by tonight and got some asada mexi nachos. It was really good. The meat was tender, had flavor and was not over cooked. The nachos came with beans, tomatoes, onion, guacamole, and sour cream. They've got a huge menu. They also sell empanadas and the gf pointed out they had a big selection of soups too. We will definitely come back and try more stuff. read more

They are in my neighborhood. I stop by on occasion. Food is good. The problem is with the service. Just now, their electronic cash register was down. The worker said that he couldn't take my order. I told him I had cash. He still would not make me my food. I suggested he write down what he made me and input it into the system later. I was happy to round up the payment so he would t be short. Nope-- he refused. I pointed to all the food and said -- you have a lot of food here and you're not going to serve even to cash customers? Once again -- Nope. If I was the owner and I saw employees refusing clients' cash while allowing food to go to waste, I wouldn't be happy. They were still ramping up on credit card machine the first time we went, but I think they have gotten it set up and running. I recommend the Birria tacos or burritos - the flavor is incredible. I have no words for how uncomfortable I am leaving this review. It was one of those experiences that I was so looking forward to and it was absolutely terrible, To begin with, my friend and I wanted to order tostadas and of course they were out of tostadas. How is that? I needed to use the restroom and they did not have one available and told me to go next-door where you had to pay to use their facilities I asked for salsa that never came. The plates were dirty when we received the food. The hard shell tacos were so difficult to even bite into because all you can taste was oil. I've never had any experience that was so disappointing and just rather sad. I love Mexican food so I always give places a try, but this one had to be one of the worst I've ever experienced. I'm sorry but it was not cheap either. I hate leaving reviews like this but the dissatisfaction and rudeness was just awful. read more

The food here is so fresh and delicious!! Don't let the "chain" like appearance put you off, it's the real deal. They offer authentic dishes from the various regional cuisines of Mexico. It's a family owned business and they are so nice! The food is very reasonable and they don't cut corners. So if your thinking of giving them a try, don't hesitate. We have been to Cali Mex in Tarzana, at leas 5 times since they opened. The restaurant is a family run Mexican cuisine style eatery. Each time we have dined, we have been treated like part of their family. We are warmly greeted and made to feel welcome as though we are the only ones in the restaurant and dining in their home. The dining room is clean, and when you step into the establishment the aroma of their dishes fills the air. The atmosphere is one of warmth, family and tradition. Every time we dine we order something different to experience a different taste and are never disappointed. Your meal is made to order from fresh ingredients and handmade corn tortillas. Even the soup tastes special from the soup broth to the added vegetables and ingredients. The staff is very accommodating to your order whether it is dine in or take out. The portion size is very generous, and you will not leave hungry. I would be remiss if not to mention their homemade champurrado it's delicious! Desserts are in the works, as they grow and gain more dining aficionados.
