Really a wonderful experience. I was staying at the Boulderado and looking for a place to get to in the cold weather quickly. Lucille's was just a couple blocks away and super warm and cozy when I got there. The food was simply fantastic, well thought out start to finish. Poached eggs were done perfectly. That's not easy. Homemade flavorful hot sauce and ketchup! The biscuit had more the consistency of coffee cake, moist and wonderful, topped with homemade blueberry jam. But best of all was the wait staff, responsive but also taking the time to welcome and converse. That's rare. I loved it! Shout out to Shaena who waited on my table. The only recommendation I'd have, and it's a tiny one, is to have stronger coffee. Can't wait to bring my wife back! read more

Over rated, bland food, rude service. After coming off of a 90 day trip to San Diego and enjoying their best restaurants, what a reality check was awaiting me. Pain perdu (French toast) just wasn't that interesting or tasty. Instead, I was met with a damp rag consistency of bread, too thick to be a crepe and because of its bready, heavy texture, and lack of taste, I had to force myself to finish most of it. The waitress proceeded to defend it, claiming that if I had been to New Orleans, I'd know better. I've spent plenty of time there. The creole sausage was good, but had very little spice. I had to embellish it with their in-house hot sauce, a definite rescue effort. Orange juice, despite being fresh squeezed, is ridiculously sweet, making that, too, painful to finish. Maybe they should try tasting it and shop their oranges? Upon initially entering, the hostess stared me up and down as though I was trying to date or molest her daughter. It was humiliating. I started questioning whether I left my pants off, or worse. This arrogant hostess, without doubt, proceeds to seat me way in the back next to a pile of dirty baby chairs--to hide my apparently, unacceptable appearance. The bathroom was in poor state. The door is so thin, tiny and rickety, that you can't tell whether it is merely stuck or actually locked. Upon pulling on it, a spandex-clad liberal elite woman came gaping through. The paper towel machine is broken. Between the antiquated mask requirement present in Boulder county now, lifted elsewhere, the onerous parking meters, rude hostess, and lackluster French toast, I'd skip it. Another disappointing, overrated breakfast establishment in Colorado. Very rude at checkout too. Should I mention the torn, shop rags they provide as napkins? Cute, I guess. We visited the restaurant Easter Sunday and arrived at the right time (915am)because we were seated right away. Our server seemed a little busy but it didn't matter because the menu was impressive and we couldn't decide anyway. The server took our drink order which were the Cuban oj and the hot Bailey'sIrish cream. The Cuban oj was just ok , I didn't taste any banana liqueur and the Irish cream wasn't sweet enough for us. Our breakfast included French toast with fruit, Cajun omelette with grits and potatoes, and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits had great favor but someone forgot to add jalapeño to the grits which wasn't a big deal. The Cajun omelette with sausage and ham was tasty, good portion, the grits were great, super flavorful as were the breakfast potatoes. The French toast wasn't a hit for us because it was made with French bread and didn't have the traditional flavor French toast is famous for. Really cute little local place in Boulder. We went for brunch on a weekend that was snowed in 2 weeks ago. The food was great and the staff was very pleasant. The server recommendations were pretty good. Good creole food for Denver. Our best dish was the eggplant parmesean breakfast and the andouille sausage was on point! I came in solo and was promptly seated by the kitchen. Loved the atmosphere, felt like I was catching a home-cooked meal. The jazz playlist is excellent. The food itself was great. I got the Eggs Pontchartrain (good), a side of Gumbo (fantastic), and a couple beignets (great). It came with a biscuit and the jam was incredible. Coffee was no slouch. I want to give a special shoutout to my server, Windy, who was very attentive even though it was busy and it was just me at the table. She was cheery and we shared a couple laughs. Lucile's ohhh I love you! There is not a single thing I can point to that was less than spectacular at Lucile's. We have been to New Orleans and we know how distinct and flavorful southern food and my Oh my, does Lucile bring this cuisine home in Boulder, it sure does! We were seated swiftly at a very charming table. This appears to be a charming house converted to a restaurant. There is so much character to the place that I almost imagined myself wearing clothes of a certain era while I ate! We both got Benedict's here. Hubby got Eggs New Orleans and I got the eggs jennefir and a plateful of Beignets with cafe au lait and bloodymary with shrimp. Everything was so flavorful and delicious that I was smacking my lips all day thinking of my breakfast. The waitstaff were fabulous. Friendly, quick and forever watchful they made sure us and our 6 month old had the perfect experience. Our daughter is quite naughty and has been on solids for 2 months so we just ordered a side of banana and mashed it up and gave her. After she finished, she wanted to be entertained and our waitress and other patrons were so interactive that she didn't want to leave. They have a cute area upstairs with toys for kids that may want to do something else while the family eats. Well... 5 stars for me and 4 for my French (and opinionated) partner. 5 stars for the ambiance, cajun breakfast, biscuit, coffee. 4 stars for a good, but not quite great beignet; a bit more authenticity if it had been less dough and more airy, and not completely drowning in powdered sugar. Lucile's makes for a great neighborhood cafe, slightly off the beaten path of downtown Boulder, but very much worth the effort to find. Go early. read more

One of our favorite breakfast places to stop at in Boulder when I'm in town. My boyfriend and I are big fans of Cajun & Creole. We were extremely impressed with Lucile's. The environment provides a very quaint Louisiana cluture and hearty meals. We love taking our friends out for the Beignets. Be warned they are not GF & DF but I can't resist sampling. My only complaint is that for someone who is Gluten Free and Dairy Free your options a very limited at Lucile's. I appreciate restaurants that highlight DF & GF options on their menu. However, there are ways! Our waiters have always been very eager and understanding. They have gone out of their way to make sure our food is GF & DF. Every time I've managed to get something different and worked with our waiters to make sure things aren't cooked with butter. There are a few tables on the front porch and they use patterned fabric as napkins. It feels welcoming. If you like chicory coffee, Lucile's keeps it flowing! The biscuits are huge, fluffy, and soft with a crispy top. My grits were perfectly cooked and Lucile's creole spice is a great addition! My boyfriend's Cajun omelet was just right! Lucile's was high on our list to try while we were visiting Colorado this fall. I loved the atmosphere of the old house and the different rooms you could sit it. So much character in a small space. I tried the pain perdue and my hubby tried the breakfast po'boy. I loved the french toast, it had so much flavor and crispy edges. The sausage was amazing, some of the best I ever had. I also got a homemade chai- also some of the best I've had. The hubs polished off this po'boy quickly- lots of great flavors to be had all around. Went here on a Sunday at 8am (opens at 8am) and there was three tables already occupied. By 8:30am people were waiting for a table. This place is popular so be sure to be here early if you don't want to wait. I went with the Jennifer Benedict. It consisted of two poached eggs on muffins covered with hollandaise sauce and stuffed with spinach. Also had an avocado in the middle. Choose to have the potatoes with it. The Benedict was just ok might try something else another time. The potatoes were tasty. My wife went with eggs sardou and she thought it was good as well. We finished off with beignets even though they had it as a starter in the menu. Most customers had for starters and I still can't understand eating dessert first, cause if I do that I won't be enjoying my eggs as the second course (not enough sugar in them). Anyways the beignets are really good mostly because they are fresh and hot. We shared one piece given they were pretty big and one order would contain four of them. I mean this in the most loving, positive way possible: **do not trust these waiters when they tell you the beignets are pretty small**, so you end up ordering two plates for a party of five. Nah, these things are MASSIVE. And damn they are good. Usually the problem with ordering elephant ears at a carnival or whatever is that it's just so greasy and oily you feel sick immediately after or you can't even taste the thing because of the grease & oil. The beignets at Lucile's get this just right, with a deep fried treat somehow not too deeply fried. They cake the powdered sugar on there so that it blows off the donuts if you even barely breathe out your nostrils while you're taking a bit, and it feels kinda magical. Anyways, enough about the beignets. Everything else was very good, but probably didn't size up to the starter. I had the Eggs New Orleans, because I was eager to get back on the eggplant train and the creole sauce was getting rave reviews on the laminated restaurant review posted next to the toilet in the bathroom. I was pretty surprised when, after the meal, every I ate with told me they thought the food was meh. Eggs Nola were fantastic, the sauce lived up to the hype, and the eggplant was delicious. My daughter and I were staying only one night in Boulder and chose to have breakfast at Lucile's due to their interesting menu. I ordered the pan fried trout with poached eggs- this was very delicious- the trout was cooked perfectly. My daughter had the eggplant with poached eggs and that as well was delicious. The biscuits they serve were fluffy and good - The only reason I did not give this restaurant 5 stars was due to my biscuit being a little burned on the bottom and the potatoes were not crispy enough for me. The menu has an amazing selection of items that get your mouth watering... but I cannot give you an honest review of any of it. My fiancé and I were in the area as he was working and I came in to visit, we saw this spot and were pumped to try it out. As couples do, we went Sunday around 12p to grab a spot in line were told it would be 30-45 minutes to wait and that "we should go for a walk, be back in 30" - that we did. Came back with minutes to spare and were told, "I called your name a 'while ago'" but if you wait here and don't leave you'll be back in the que and I'll call you in 5-10 minutes" - ok, I get it, it's the food industry and they were burning through names. We made it clear we understood and that we would wait again and stay so we were assured a spot. Names were being called left and right and finally after another 30 minutes, my fiancé went to check in again and the hostess again, and very apathetically said, "oh yea I called your name a while ago." .... Yes, you did the first time, but not after us acknowledging to you that we were here for the food and would wait, which is what was communicated to her after we "missed" the first go around. At this point we had given an hour of our time waiting and decided, very hangry at this point, that we were done. To top it off her attitude was TERRIBLE as we walked away calling out to us, "are you leaving?" We said "yes" and with a very passive aggressive response, "well thanks for telling me" she called after us. I come from a place of serving customers and running a business, although I am not from Colorado and this was my first taste. I'm upset by how this hostess conducted business as we were understanding and truly willing to wait despite the communication issues and her unprofessional demeanor. It's a shame to have your business represented on the front lines like what we experienced and we were ready to eat and support a local business. My husband and I came here for breakfast. I really wanted a beignet because I haven't had them since our trip to New Orleans. We both had oatmeal which by any restaurant standard isn't that difficult of an order but some how still ended up sub par. It tasted fine but half the bowl was coated in sugar and the other half was just two sliced apples? Usually I expect a basic simple breakfast meal like this to be jazzed up a bit with fresh fruit and a beautiful display but this really just fell below the bar. Authentic Creole Style Food in Boulder say wha??? Yes, it's there right around the corner from Pearl Street. Nestled in a quiet and cute pale yellow Victorian style home. The menu is niche for sure but each dish is well thought, and delivers an experience with intention and flavor. We went for brunch and some of our dishes came with the most delicious homemade biscuits I've ever had. They are literally the size of your face, and the house made jam that comes with is divine. From the eggs pontchrain, to the pain perdu, it's all worth it. Finally don't forget to get the beignets!
