We ate inside for brunch - surprisingly we were seated immediately. I had the eggs Pontchartrain and my sister had the cheese omelet. Of course we had the beignets as well. Service was really REALLY quick, and the servers were all very friendly. We enjoyed our food quite a bit - the beignets actually came out first, which if we had eaten them would have ruined our meal because we would have been too full. The eggs Pontchartrain were good, the trout was crispy and tasty, the bernaise sauce was good - not too warm though. The grits are white, coarse-ground, so there's quite a bit of mouth feel to them. The cheese omelet was good, and full of interesting cheese. The biscuits: YUUUGE. Honestly they didn't really have much of a biscuit texture to them, they're more like cake. We each got a different jam with our biscuits so we could variety-taste; both were very good! I don't love that you pay your bill up front, with lots of people standing around - I don't love that they don't sanitize the pens after each use - but I recognize that's almost impossible to keep up with. Lucile's was an excellent surprise to end my trip in Denver. Small, yet full of robust flavors and house jams, ketchup, hot sauce and seasonings was and they've been doing this way since 1980. Biggest biscuit and gravy I've ever had. Biscuit gets a 7/10 but their andouille sausage gravy gets 9/10. Original flavors but is was served room temperature and was fairly thick. Shrimp and grits get a 7/10. Toppings to Grits ratio was disproportioned and the Cheese Grits simply lacked flavor. Beignets were amazing! 9/10!! A visit to Lucile's in Boulder is the embodiment of what I imagine a visit to Granny's house to be, if Granny happens to be radiating with southern hospitality and cooking up a storm to make sure everyone has enough to eat. It's probably partly because Lucile's is in an old house that was turned into a restaurant, similar to some of the restaurants I've visited in New Orleans and Charleston. Most of my experience with Lucile's is with the Longmont location, where the food is amazing and the service...isn't. Luckily, our weekday breakfast at the Boulder location yielded much better customer service. We came here first thing on a Friday morning, and we strolled right in without a wait. Our waitress very quickly brought us chicory coffee and fresh beignets with ALL the powdered sugar, just the way I like it. My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict, his go-to favorite. It came with a lot of ham, a generous side of cheesy grits, and some extra avocado that my husband requested. (Falling right into the stereotype of millennials, we really do love our avocados.) I ordered the Pain Perdu, which came with an egg prepared just as I requested, spicy sausage, and a generous helping of fruit. It was all delicious, and we left feeling like we were wrapped up in a warm hug and fed enough for the rest of the day. read more

Wait wasn't too long for this greatly anticipated brunch. The biscuits are big enough for the whole table and delicious. The rest of the food was good but the service was just terrible. I ordered a side of trout along with a side salad. My fish came out hot and tasty but I literally ate it solo as I took my last bite when they finally brought my plain mixed green salad. I can't imagine what took 30 minutes to drizzle a vinaigrette onto bagged salad mix but it did. We had to ask for water repeatedly and napkins as well. Our server basically took our order and finally gave our check when asked. The manager was like "eh, we are short staffed." I have had better service at fast food restaurants than I received here. I had not been to Lucille's in a while and went to meet a friend for lunch. We both ordered Shrimp Po boys and they were delicious. Soft bread on the outside providing the wrapping for crunchy shrimp which was perfectly cooked. Had some fresh lettuce and pickles that tasted homemade with just the right amount of mayonnaise. Lucile's like many establishments that have been around for years needs a makeover. The tables and chairs are rickety and the carpets need replacement or a good cleaning. I have been to Luciles multiple times over the past decade, and this latest visit was less then stellar. The beignets and biscuits were still fabulous but the balance of the food was bland and lacked seasoning. Cmon why would red beans and rice taste bland. The dish is all about a little spice. This place is a cute and quaint little breakfast joint in the bustling area of Boulder. It's located in a good area where you can closely walk to all the main streets and shops and wait while you put your name on the waiting list. I believe I came on a Saturday or Sunday for brunch with my bf and the wait was around 45 minutes. Anyways, food and interior wise, it was just aight. Nothing special and honestly kind of bland and bad. I really wanted to like this place like real bad but I didn't. The interior was pretty cute to me, but I sat near the restrooms and so I felt a little gross. I also didn't really enjoy the cloth napkins they had, although it seemed to fit the theme a bit more, I felt like it was kinda grimy and dirty feeling... I didn't wanna put it near my face. The seating inside is also pretty cramped. I'm sad because I liked how I felt like I was in somebody's home but I also felt uncomfortable being there and eating inside. The food wasn't good to me. I got the eggs Benedict on the fish and my boyfriend got the original eggs Benedict. Both of us really didn't like our meals that much.. the potatoes were good tho. We also got the side of beignets, and I didn't really like them either. I thought they tasted really doughy and mine was undercooked. Also one of my poached eggs were super well done it was like a boiled egg. WOW. How have I lived in Boulder for 2 years and had never heard of this place before?!? Lucile's Creole Cafe takes your standard diner/brunch fare and adds a tasty and unique creole spin to it. The dining areas are small and cozy. The staff is friendly and fast. And the food was phenomenally delicious from the first sip of the house blend coffee and spiced tea, to the last bite of fluffy, hot beignets... bring your appetite because the food is not only yummy, but it's very generously served. This is our go to spot when we want to brunch in Boulder. The staff are fantastic, the food never disappoints, and the charm of the old home is amazing. The wait can sometimes get long in the warmer months, but you can always check in and then go for a stroll down to Pearl Street. Do you ever have the experience where the food you eat just "gets you?" Well, that's what the food here does for me. It's comforting. It feels like you're at home. We had to stop by at least one of the Lucile's locations while visiting Colorado, and this one in Boulder was lovely, in a corner house with a charming front porch. We started off enjoying wonderful beignets covered in powdered sugar, fluffy and inviting. I ordered the Eggs Pontchartrain (Pan fried flaked mountain trout with perfectly poached eggs and Bernaise sauce). I still dream about this dish and it's been over a week now! Boulder, Colorado is the last place I expect to enjoy a Southern style breakfast but Lucile's seems to get it right! I'd definitely recommend getting their Chai latte because it is a heavenly treat! Lucile's has some of the best brunch I've ever had in my whole entire life. First of all I'm a sucker for any business that takes place in a renovated house. It makes me feel like I'm at home. We came here after church and waited upstairs out of the cold and win which is a nice touch. I had never had a Beignet before and my life is forever improved. I got French toast and the syrup was cinnamony and incredible. The coffee was hot! Other members of my party got grits, eggs, omelets, and sausage. All was delicious. Food was good but I'm giving zero stars for the overbearing and rude hostess when we visited Sunday. I asked our waitress what the hostess's name was and I don't recall exactly but it was something that sounded like Arral. She was very hostile that I wanted a table for two, many of which were open, when my spouse was merely finding parking. She said that they can't sit incomplete parties and then tried to bully me into ordering a mimosa at 10 in the morning. When we finally got a table the same hostess decided to come bother us by trying to chat us up while we were trying to read the menu and it seemed like she was on uppers of some kind. Very off putting and aggressive and it set the wrong tone for our breakfast. When we left we wanted to leave a cash tip for our waitress and the hostess jumped over and said "Oh, I can take it!" a little too eagerly and then acted offended when we wanted to leave it on the table. If we come back I hope they do not have more employees like this. read more

i wish i had been to lucile's earlier!!! it was so good! i had the blackened salmon with eggs, potatoes and spinach (instead of the english muffin - gluten free things) our waiter was lovely and so funny. she was also gluten free so she helped me a lot when figuring out what to eat. definitely going to be coming back here again soon!! read more

Good stuff...not great though. If you miss the taste of NOLA up in CO, then I do recommend it. If you are wanting really good authentic food like NOLA, it may be a shell of the real thing....close but not perfect. Its like the NOLA bread that can only be made there because of the water. If you take the same ingredients and make it elsewhere with different water, altitude, and humidity....you won't be able to make it exactly like it. I think the same goes on here where its a little far removed, ingredients aren't perfectly the same, etc. I think the "New Orleans Sandwich Company" in Gatlinburg, TN is the closes to NOLA that I have found that isn't in LA. BUT do come here and check it out for breakfast/lunch/brunch...just don't expect it to be the same as NOLA. read more

I arrived early 7:30 am, and the line began to form for the 8 am Saturday opening. Seated on the patio where service was friendly and prompt, I felt uncomfortable having a leisurely breakfast as a crowd of on-lookers waited for their table. Sit inside. I had the Eggs ponchatrane: Pan fried trout topped with poached eggs and hollandaise, Grits on the side, red beans, and a Huge Biscuit. It quickly became brunch. If 5 stars meant I got what I hoped for. Lucile's came highly recommended so I'm disappointed. Food: The beignets and oat milk cafe au lait hit the spot. Met my expectations and sated the calling to Cafe Du Monde. The Eggs Pontchartrain was dissatisfying. The grits were quite bland, lumpy (not always bad) cooked in water with too little salt and seasoning in general. The pan fried mountain trout was under-seasoned but well cooked. Did not invoke flavors reminiscent of Louisiana catfish. I'm not generally a fan of béarnaise sauce (I ordered mine on the side), but here we also lacked salt and any flavor worth noting. It did not add anything when included with the other food. The biscuit served on the side was tasty. A bit big and lacking the flakiness I expect when eating Southern food. Service: Attentive, friendly, prompt. I didn't feel forgotten nor pressured to rush through my meal. Atmosphere: Outdoor seating shaded with beautiful trees. Quiet street that is adjacent to a neighborhood. Generally, would not recommend to those who know southern/Cajun cooking. If you love NOLA, this isn't the place for you. read more

Went here for brunch with my dad. First impression, the inside is so cute and I loved design of the house, looked straight out of New Orleans. I ordered a side of trout alongside my breakfast and was delightfully surprised, it ended up being the highlight of my meal, very delicious. Beignets were also incredible of course, and I highly recommend the Eggs New Orleans. Love this place! Me and my family have been going here for ever. It's located in a very cute old house in Boulder. There is usually a wait, usually only about 20 minutes but something to plan on. When you sit down order the biscuits and make sure you sample all their homemade jams. I would also highly recommend the house tea. It's amazing and we always buy some to take home. Everything I have ever had on the menu has been good. I would recommend getting half potatoes and trying there homemade hot sauce and homemade ketchup with them. And then get half the cheesy spicy grits. Finally get the beignets. They are top notch 10/10. You'll likely be full already but we always get them to go. read more

Really a wonderful experience. I was staying at the Boulderado and looking for a place to get to in the cold weather quickly. Lucille's was just a couple blocks away and super warm and cozy when I got there. The food was simply fantastic, well thought out start to finish. Poached eggs were done perfectly. That's not easy. Homemade flavorful hot sauce and ketchup! The biscuit had more the consistency of coffee cake, moist and wonderful, topped with homemade blueberry jam. But best of all was the wait staff, responsive but also taking the time to welcome and converse. That's rare. I loved it! Shout out to Shaena who waited on my table. Over rated, bland food, rude service. After coming off of a 90 day trip to San Diego and enjoying their best restaurants, what a reality check was awaiting me. Pain perdu (French toast) just wasn't that interesting or tasty. Instead, I was met with a damp rag consistency of bread, too thick to be a crepe and because of its bready, heavy texture, and lack of taste, I had to force myself to finish most of it. The waitress proceeded to defend it, claiming that if I had been to New Orleans, I'd know better. I've spent plenty of time there. The creole sausage was good, but had very little spice. I had to embellish it with their in-house hot sauce, a definite rescue effort. Orange juice, despite being fresh squeezed, is ridiculously sweet, making that, too, painful to finish. Maybe they should try tasting it and shop their oranges? Upon initially entering, the hostess stared me up and down as though I was trying to date or molest her daughter. It was humiliating. I started questioning whether I left my pants off, or worse. This arrogant hostess, without doubt, proceeds to seat me way in the back next to a pile of dirty baby chairs--to hide my apparently, unacceptable appearance. The bathroom was in poor state. The door is so thin, tiny and rickety, that you can't tell whether it is merely stuck or actually locked. Upon pulling on it, a spandex-clad liberal elite woman came gaping through. The paper towel machine is broken. Between the antiquated mask requirement present in Boulder county now, lifted elsewhere, the onerous parking meters, rude hostess, and lackluster French toast, I'd skip it. Another disappointing, overrated breakfast establishment in Colorado. Very rude at checkout too. Should I mention the torn, shop rags they provide as napkins? Cute, I guess. Lucile's offers hearty breakfast. I had the Eggs New Orleans. Do you love eggplant? Eggs? Grits or maybe potatoes? Get this! On top of two poached eggs will be some Hollandaise sauce. Below that gooey madness per my request are these crunchy country potatoes. Somewhere in there are eggplants sliced just enough so you can enjoy it's texture. Cut just enough so you can actually see the familiar purplish color of an eggplant. So awesome! Lucile's is busy. Although the turn around time is pretty good. We dropped in with no reservation and was willing to wait for food after an invigorating snowshoeing event. We didn't wait that long. You are instructed to wait upstairs. It's a very cute set up with low ceilings and a few toys for kids. Solid creole food that would make New Orleans proud! This place is a must if you're visiting the area, however you should limit meals here for special occasions. As Jen (fellow New Yorker)mentioned, be prepared to scarf down an extremely calorie-dense, but delicious meal (sausage gravy anyone?) First thing's first - expect a wait (we've only gone their for breakfast). Arrive at least 30-45 minutes before you plan to begin eating and bring a newspaper, magazine, or some other distraction to read outside (no need to sit upstairs). When adding your name to the list, you can sit at your own table, or at some type of "communal" table with another party. Not that we're anti-social, but we've always opted for the private table. Choose your friends wisely - a party of four people (or less) is the magic number - any more and the table options become extrememy limited, and the wait increases. The outside/inside is very warm, and looks like a transformed New England house/bed & breakfast. Before we even see the menus, we order up the obligatory pitcher of fresh-squeezed OJ (which pours about 6 small cups and is reasonably priced over a single glass) and a round of coffees. For some immediate nosh, we ordered a side of the sausage gravy to dunk our biscuits into....delicious! Most of the items on the breakfast menu are stellar (anything with fresh avocado here is a home run in my book, and you can always add it in). When ordering Farmer's Eggs and Hank's Eggs expect all the ingredients diced and mixed together. Initially, it might not look very pleasing to the eye, but tastes great when you mix all those flavors into each bite. I experimented with the Eggs Pontchartrain (trout with poached eggs, grits/potatos, and bernaise). They cook their poached eggs to order with precision, so be as specific as you want, as if you're ordering a $50 steak! Medium-well works for me here - I didn't want my yolks running into the creamy bernaise sauce... If you can actually fit a dessert, the Beignets are tasty, and you can easily split them among your group). Either way, expect to waddle out of this place (extremely satisfied) after you pay the check, and allow plenty of time to digest before you venture off into the foothills for a hike/ride...enjoy! read more

We visited the restaurant Easter Sunday and arrived at the right time (915am)because we were seated right away. Our server seemed a little busy but it didn't matter because the menu was impressive and we couldn't decide anyway. The server took our drink order which were the Cuban oj and the hot Bailey'sIrish cream. The Cuban oj was just ok , I didn't taste any banana liqueur and the Irish cream wasn't sweet enough for us. Our breakfast included French toast with fruit, Cajun omelette with grits and potatoes, and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits had great favor but someone forgot to add jalapeño to the grits which wasn't a big deal. The Cajun omelette with sausage and ham was tasty, good portion, the grits were great, super flavorful as were the breakfast potatoes. The French toast wasn't a hit for us because it was made with French bread and didn't have the traditional flavor French toast is famous for. Overall the restaurant has good food and popular in Boulder Co,. I definitely give it another try read more

I came in solo and was promptly seated by the kitchen. Loved the atmosphere, felt like I was catching a home-cooked meal. The jazz playlist is excellent. The food itself was great. I got the Eggs Pontchartrain (good), a side of Gumbo (fantastic), and a couple beignets (great). It came with a biscuit and the jam was incredible. Coffee was no slouch. I want to give a special shoutout to my server, Windy, who was very attentive even though it was busy and it was just me at the table. She was cheery and we shared a couple laughs.
