This is my first time to The Huckleberry for breakfast. I have been here before for their wonderful afternoon tea and lunch. The food was delicious! I ordered the Garden Scramlette which was served with a biscuit and potatoes. I opted for fruit instead of the potatoes. The scramlette was akin to an omelette. It was the most tasty scramlette/omelette I've had in a long time. The scramlette included tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, onions and cheddar cheese. The biscuit was fluffy and served with homemade jam and butter. I ordered their house-made chai. The restaurant group is connected with The Dushanbe Teahouse and this tea was on the same level as that restaurant. They gave you one refill and the waiter asked if I wanted my refill to go. The service was exceptional. Our waiter came back several times to check on us. We didn't have to wait long for either our food or check. I can't wait to come back here for breakfast. We had a party of 10 show up late morning on a Sunday and everyone was really helpful in getting us situated. I love the set up of the restaurant with the textured walls, great flow, and unique decorations. There were also a lot of fun nooks and crannies for 1-2 seaters that would make a meal solo or with a friend that much more intimate. The food was good, nothing too special. The chicken wrap I got had very little chicken, but still tasted great because it was made well. The fries on the side of the burgers and wraps were stand out. The brunch items (corned beef hash and eggs, veggie scramble) were similar in rating - fine, but nothing spectacular. I let a friend here for lunch the other day and I haven't been in years so I was looking forward to it. The staff is always nice and that is still true. I love the old time family cafe feel and the look of the desserts in the glass case when you walk in. Upon the server's recommendation and against my better judgment, I ordered the Mac and cheese with grilled chicken added. He was right! The Mac and. Geese is delicious and I was good and only ate about a quarter of it and took the rest home. The chicken was a little dry and didn't have a lot of flavor but the Mac and cheese made up for it. Once we got our food it was a long time before anyone checked back in. It was the berry crepe which also came with eggs - we had them hold the eggs - but the marscapone filling was light and creamy and the berries were delicious. He ordered the Mexican scramble and when it came he noted that it was anything but appetizing. Indeed everything was truly mixed so much so that the eggs were ugly brown. The ambience was sunny and pleasant. The food was underwhelming. My girlfriend was disappointed with her chai and Caprese Benedict, which she called "bland, chewy, and flavorless", and noted that even salt and ketchup couldn't help. My Mexican Scramlette was poorly cooked. The black beans were somehow blended into the eggs, creating a mushy, mealy texture to the dish that was entirely unpleasant, like something a child could have thrown together by mistake. My girlfriend told me later it looked like vomit (a "Mexican Vomlette"). At the end of the meal, we got a surprise extra 4% charge on the bill, some kind of farm/staff fee. Nothing like wrapping up a below average dining experience with a parting "F-You!" on the bill. The service was friendly, and our waitress was kind enough to remove the surprise 4% fee.
