Very upset. Went in for our anniversary last Thursday August 20th. First off I stood at the door for quite some time. No one greeted me and the servers stood in a group staring at me while saying nothing. Weird but ok. We orders the lobster claws and knuckles and when I put it in my mouth I should have spit it out like my husband did but I ate it. When we told the server Regan (who was the only normal and nice person there) a man named Patrick came over. He seemed new and nervous was very quiet and the conversation was awkward in general to be honest. But they got us different food and took the lobster off. It wasn't till hours later that I knew something was wrong and I was violently ill. I called jax the next day while I was extremely sick and got Patrick on the phone again. Conversation again was weird and there were several pauses that made me ask are "hello, are you still there?" He told me someone would call me Sunday and no call. Patrick did refund our meal. That was nice. However I missed a day of work that I could not miss, was sick all weekend and could not go to the doctors cause who can afford that? I cannot. I visited Jax for Happy Hour and was very disappointed in their prices. A skimpy glass of Mediocre Wine was $11 and a big Rip Off. The Happy Hour prices are ridiculously high. The Jax all Monday night happy hour caught my attention recently on a work trip to Boulder. The reviews weren't off the charts but I decided to give it a shot. The menu was very small but great choices for a quick bite to eat and relax. The restaurant was very crowded and I would recommend making a reservation as the space is quite small. The staff was friendly and offered me a seat at the bar given the crowd. I sat at the bar and ordered an icy cold local Mexican lager. It was good and paired well with my order of peel and eat shrimp and fries. The peel and eat shrimp were cooked well and served with old bay seasoning on top with a side of ketchup with fresh horseradish. The mustard sauce was also really good. My fries were outstanding! I came here for the $2 Happy Hour Crackerjax Oysters on April 15th! I came before the doors opened for business. I waited alongside a few others. I didn't realize that when the doors opened, people would just storm in! I was the third in line outside and once inside, I was still waiting at the host/hostess stand while everyone else had been seated by the hostess (for the restaurant) or seated themselves (for the bar). I had no idea how this worked. Crazy! I ended up at the end of the bar nearest the dining room. After the chaos, I took a long look at the menus. I decided on the Oysters, Gumbo, & Lemonade. The Crackerjax Oysters were delicious, especially with that stuff in the jar! It's so pretty and is a great addition to the oysters! I really enjoyed these oysters! I also got a cup of the Gumbo. The broth is darker than the Gumbo I've had before. It was a teeny bit too salty, but I washed it down with the Strawberry Lemonade. For dessert, I chose the Brûléed Key Lime Tart. I ordered the gumbo and it was very rich and delicious especially with the bread. The lobster sando and fries were good. I ordered Scallops with farro and kale in brown butter which was really tasty. We booked a reservation on open table for 630pm for 2. We arrived at 630pm we did not get a table for 20 mins. The host was missing for ten mins. Before we could even check in and this continued for guest arriving after us crowded at the door. We then didn't see a server for 17 mins after we were sat. Why I'm only giving 3 stars when booking a reservation for 630pm do you expect to be sat at 630 or 7pm? After we were sat it took 17 mins for a server to see us. we placed our order drinks and appetizers our one beer and a glass of water took over 15 mins. Our appetizers crab cake came before something to drink. The oysters we asked for 3 recommendations an order for each of us and it took over 35 mins and we only received one of each so we had to wait another 20 mins just to get another order to be correct. Then we had asked for two more oysters however those didn't come til after our food!!! After we were asked about dessert!!! We were deciding to leave and the oysters showed up um like you're joking right! Now the restaurant was busy but this seemed ridiculous and our food alone took over a hour n half to arrive to our table. Ahi tuna entree and sea scallop entree w side of mushrooms. The food was delicious but service lacked severely. if you want to have a meal within a hour I wouldn't recommend this place or time frame on a Saturday or book an early reservation bc I don't feel like a 630pm reservation for dinner should take 2 hours. Again food was wonderful when it finally arrived but our server was rarely around, we had to ask other staff for additional drinks of WATER!! Now, maybe most people would not comment on this but I was shocked by how extensive their beverage list was (white wines, red wines, cocktails, beers, after dinner wines, after dinner cocktails). Plus, I really appreciated how they supported local breweries while having mainstream beers ready and available. I got to have my favorite beer from a small brewery in Lafayette, CO called Odd13. Yes this place lives up to the hype. What's great option for fresh, delicious seafood in boulder. Service was great and food was on point. We got the hook platter. Oysters and shrimp were amazing. The crab was good but a pain to eat. Next time will go for just shrimp and oysters which is actually a cheaper option. We split lobster roll and barramundi. Was nervous about ordering lobster roll because of some negative reviews I read here but really glad we ordered it. It was amazing. Fries were great as well. The barramundi was cooked perfectly and paired well with some vegetable ragout and some grits cake that was divine. Finished with a little chocolate sorbet which was also great. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. Went for dinner last night and 2 out of 3 dishes had issues, one not well cooked (meaning undercooked), the other was cold and had to send back. I'm not a huge fan of manufactured dishes at a fine seafood house, I'd prefer to order my fish, order the cooking style and get sides. Instead, at JAX you should focus less on the fish and more on their dish ingredients. I made that mistake and as a consequence hated my entree because it was overloaded with Siracha. Given the $200 you'll drop on a dinner for 2 people, I'm going to move on from JAX and give other places a shot. read more

This place was our favorite meal during our trip to Colorado. We spent a long day in Rocky Mountain National Park and dropped by here on our way to Denver. We were surprised that there were plenty of seating available 730pm on Labor day. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful - he truly made us feel welcome, hence the 5 star review for this place. We were hungry so we got the hook bar platter which came with half dozen raw oysters, half pound shrimp, and snow crab legs. Also got the blackened catfish entree, side of fries and half dozen of raw oysters (forgot which one we got). I also tried the Manhattan which was really good! There were plenty of foods for us two hungry folks. The seafood tasted fresh and delicious. The french fries were also good, hit the spot. The blackened catfish came with collared greens and hush puppies in some tomato sauce. The collared greens were our favorite! Tasted so good with the tomato sauce. The blackened catfish was crispy and well seasoned on the outside. The hush puppies were also good, loved soaking it in the sauce. We were way too stuffed but killed everything. The hostess, from Maine (sorry, forgot name) helped us get rounds of drinks quickly, served the birthday cake, and was also a killer customer service agent. From start to finish, this was THE best restaurant experience I have ever had. My girlfriend and I came here for the fixed Valentine's Day menu and we will absolutely be coming here again. We had a reservation, and the hostess was incredibly kind when we were waiting for our table, and even offered to bring us drinks while we waited! After we were sat, the courses of the fixed menu came out at a perfect pace, I never felt rushed or like we were waiting for a long time. I got the non-alcoholic rose and it was incredible, I felt like I was still enjoying a cocktail! All of the food was delicious as well. The Little Gem is salad is the best Caesar I have ever had and I will be coming back specifically for that. Koi was an incredibly kind server and balanced a busy section so well. I would say the one in Boulder has a nicer ambience due to the interior decor. The wait can be long, so go early! They have excellent service. We ordered the following: FRESH OYSTERS: (5/5) I liked how they had a variety of oysters from both the east and the west. Although they are priced per half dozen, you can actually order these per piece. The price is just the listed price divided by 6. We got the Emersum, Kumamoto, and Shigoku. As expected, the Kumamoto is the best, but the Emersum really exceeded my expectations. I would recommend giving that one a try too! LOBSTER MAC AND CHEESE: (6/5) GET THIS! You get a lot of lobster and it is cooked perfectly. GRILLED NORWEGIAN SALMON: (5/5) This was really good. I got it cooked medium rare and I like how the inside was still a little pink. SEAFOOD CHOWDER: (3.5/5) I like that it arrived hot and there was a lot of goodies inside, but it had a weird alcohol flavor. FRIED TOWN DOCK CALAMARI: (10/5) OMG GET THIS! I often order fried calamari and I admit that I found that their calamari looked a bit weird, but this is the BEST calamari dish I've ever had! Do not judge the book by its cover! The breading is just the right amount and you get to actually taste how fresh their calamari is. The aioli sauce complemented their calamari well too. At the end of my meal, I found myself wanting to get another portion of it to go. I really enjoyed the whole dining experience and I will definitely go back again to get their fresh oysters, fried calamari, and lobster mac and cheese! We literally wanted to go back again next day! There were 4 in our party celebrating a birthday and everyone enjoyed their meals and appetizers.
