If you are in the area you must go to Lucille's. Heck even if you're not in the area you must go. Hubby got cream chipped beef I had to do pork roll egg and cheese because that is a jersey staple. After a morning at Costco, we came here for lunch. We've been wanting to come to this place for a while after reading about it on the web. We got immediately seated when we arrived. The restaurant is small, with merchandise hanging on the walls next to cubbies holding the same stuff. Counter seating is right next to these, with mounted shelves holding cereal, condiments, and mugs behind it and a selection of Dandelion Honey pies next to the counter. Black and white plaid headings and white blinds adorn the windows and beneath them and framed accolades and booklets sit on the windowsills. Daughter ordered the egg platter with 2 eggs over easy, corned beef hash and home fries. It came along with a side of toast, so she got rye. She thought her order was pretty good and tasty and would order it again. Hubs ordered the German Omelette, which has mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomato and Swiss. He got a side of grits. Daughter thought the grits were bland. Hubs said that it was a standard omelette and it wasn't fluffy. There were plenty of fillings, though. Lastly, I ordered 1 pancake, 1 egg and 1 meat. For the meat, I ordered a bacon well done and a banana pancake with an over easy egg. I didn't get the bacon well done but it was pretty good. My banana pancake tasted pretty good and fluffy. Service was friendly. It was our server's first day and she did great. Will return when in the area to try other items on the menu. read more

GO HERE AND GET THE APPLE PIE! it's to die for so I guess Anthony Bourdain was right! Apple pie alone is 5 stars and def one if not THE best I ever had. It tastes better than it looks! I would get them to go for any holiday or visiting someone's house or as a gift! And if you are driving by just stop in and get one to go! Trust me! They serve breakfast all day, until 2pm. Also, had 2 eggs over medium and fresh hash browns with real potatoes and fresh onions and seasoning! Needed to add salt and pepper to the eggs but no biggy. The toast was perfectly toasted and buttered. Kids enjoyed the egg whites and toast and shared the chocolate milkshake and rated it a 10 out of 10. Hub said Choc chip pancakes were the best because it tasted like a Choc chip muffin. Kids said they were too crispy on the outside but fluffy inside. I hate chocolate so can't comment on them at all but hub is picky and he liked them so I'd say they are pretty good! Had ice water and Earl gray tea and they weren't cheap with the tea bags so that's also a plus! Didn't see the Jersey Devil but maybe next time! I heard it will be back in October so we'll have to stop back to see it! We sat outside to enjoy this beautiful day in Jersey and there was a lot to look at around and okay I spy with. We left the phones back home and the kids actually played like kids used to do! The waitress was sweet and also brought out a big bucket of magnablox for the kids while we were waiting for our food and they had a cool tire swing playground area to keep the kids out of your hair while you finish your food or sit back and relax. Also had a cool set up of toy trucks which the boys used to love when younger! Glad we stopped here and if in the area I'd love to try the stuffed cabbage or Lucille's lunch and get more apple pie next time! "I Ate With the Jersey Devil" reads my new long sleeved t-shirt, a souvenir of a breakfast enjoyed with family in the middle of the Pine Barrens at an old luncheonette restaurant out on Route 539, which is worth checking out if you're in South Jersey. The meal was sublime, I had a blueberry pancake which was as big as my head with ginormous berries and a slice of their homemade apple pie. I wish I could recommend this place since it's a small business that has been around for a long time. That being said, the service was great and the food wasn't bad. Portions sizes were too small for breakfast for the price. The one big thing my group didn't like at all was the seating... we had a group of 4 but they barely had any 4 top tables. In general the restaurant was Very small and awkwardly laid out. The two 4 top tables they had were situated right next to the door, which was very annoying. It was against the wall and the cash register(pay at the register) which was next to a bunch of merchandise, and everyone that was paying had to take a look and basically were bumping into my friend while she was eating. We felt very cramped the entire time, but that's how almost every table probably felt. They do make homemade pies here, that I would definitely recommend! read more

The food here was so good! They have nice outdoor seating as well. We brought our dog and he was able to sit while we ate. I got the gravy and biscuits, the sausage was super flavorfull and the buscuits were soft and buttery. My husband got the German omelette and we shared chocolate chip pancakes. The coffee was really good. I would give 4.5 if we could do half stars, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars just because the service was a little slow, but totally understandable as they were super busy, we went on a warm Friday in October. I first learned of this neat, local diner when Anthony Bourdain did an interview at the counter for his TV show. I was helping write an off-road rally in the Pine Barrens with a friend when we broke for lunch. My co-driver suggested we check this place out and I'm glad he did. The walls are filled with local color - clippings, photos and Jersey Devil kitch. All good. I had a very good cheese burger cooked perfectly to my order and a huge plate of excellent steak fries (more than I could finish). My friend had a BLT and he made yummy noises so it was pronounced good as well. The wait staff was efficient, friendly and accurate - that's often a surprise in little shops like this. All in all, this was a fun place to stop and I think, if you're in the area, it's worth a stop. They have lots of locally baked pies that the locals crowding the tables all seemed to be tucking into. We were in a hurry so no dessert. But on my next visit, I'll skip the fries and have a slice of pie. A nice local find with very good diner fare. Recommended read more

Wife and I went to Lucille's for the first time on Sunday 11/26. It was about 15-20 minute car ride for us. I had a bacon cheese omelette and my wife had 1/2 an omelette and a pancake. The bacon cheese omelette was great but, the home fries were the best I ever had. My wife enjoyed her omelette but, really liked the pancake. Service was great and coffee cups were always fulled. Too too many flies flying around the inside area. Horrible. The breakfast potatoes were supposed to have fried onions but they were rushing and just gave us raw chopped onions with our breakfast portions. The egg omelet was fine and clean, not greasy. No greasy food which is good to know. The other time we went the pizza burger was not very good because of the sauce. The chili has really no taste. (Sorry) Needs to be more tasty. And again too many flies in the inside area. Not really good on gluten free items. Just the tomato soup & chowder. They should really offer gluten free breads to make breakfast and lunch as pleasant experience. Do not got after 1:00 or you might not get what you really want cooked properly. They close at 2:00. We visited Lucilles on a sunday morning after hearing great things and reading great reviews, we were seated fairly quick, but in the parking lot with cars driving by. I know the inside is small, but we have a 2 year old, I feel the seating area should be seperated from the parking lot. Our waitress brought our drinks quickly, and took our order. Then, after 45 mins waiting she came over to refill coffee and spilled our waters across the table, no biggie, it happens, she said she was going to get a rag, and never came back! My wife went inside to pay for our drinks, and we had to leave after almost a hour of waiting for food! We were all looking foward to dining here but were let down! We may try again in the future, but only if it does not seem busy, and we can sit somewhere else beside the parking lot! Lol! read more

I've been going to Lucille's ever since I was a little kid, back when the incredibly warm woman herself, Lucille, was alive. The food has always been incredibly good. Lucille's is one of the only places I'll get an omelette because no one else's compares. Last time I got a sausage and cheese omelette and this thing was STUFFED. I got it with home fries with onions which were crunchy and flavorful. Their soups are always out of this world. Another personal favorite item on their menu is the cream chipped beef. It's hands down the best cream chipped beef I've ever had. Also a huge fan of their open faced hot roast beef sandwich. Stopped here yesterday for breakfast on our way to Atlantic City. I ordered a mushroom & cheese omelet w/ a side of sausage patties, my wife had French Toast. I liked my omelet, was tasty, sausage was also very good. My wife, on the other hand, was not thrilled with her French Toast -- it was dry white bread, and very lightly drenched. Portion size also looked very underwhelming. Service was good though, bathrooms were also clean. Place was only half full (so no wait, as other reviewers have stated), but it was 9:15am on a Wednesday morning. My In-Laws liked their breakfasts, we would certainly stop back in again on any future trip to AC, but I wouldn't recommend the French Toast. read more

What a gem! Quirky little joint in Warren Grove (Barnegat) off the highway. We rode our motorcycle for an early morning breakfast ride and this was on our list of places to go.
