    TGTG Surprise Bag
    Joe K.

Went back for another TGTG. The to-go tray is smaller this time but it's still a good deal. Food is still yummy. Should've mentioned in previous review that the location is kinda sketchy and street parking can be a challenge. Stay safe.

I took the advice of fellow Yelp buddy Elvine and decided to give this unassuming spot a try. HELLLLLLA GOOOOOD! The food was fresh and aplenty! I paid $9 for hella food! I would definitely go back, the food was pretty good for a steam table set up. This place seemed really popular with the locals! Give this place a shot, it won't disappoint!

It does the job very well if you're in a hurry. It is Chinese fast food so keep that in mind. Customer service was nice. They explained the menu and even though they were closing we were not rushed at all. They did Had items that were out because of the time of day but it was still fair. They also sell boba milk teas which I opted for the boba and the jelly. Food is tasty and nice. Very good flavour. Some items are greasy and fried. Not the healthiest but can be comfort food for many. For what it is, they execute it well. Felt comfortable, safe, and happy with my food. Fruitvale station is near and AC Transit 1T and 54 are accessible with some city bike docks.

The food is delicious. So far, every surprise bag order has not disappointed. In fact, they've exceeded expectations in amount, flavor and value. A surprise bag is ordered through the TooGoodToGo app. My son moaned the entire time he ate on our first shared meal. That speaks volumes. He's a finicky guy. There's a wide variety to choose from on the steam table buffet. The staff are nice and service is fast. It's your typical fast food Chinese restaurant. There is booth style seating. However, upon my three encounters I've only seen people coming in for to go. Parking can be challenging. The restaurant is located on busy E. 14th aka "International Blvd" in the Fruitvale district.

Chow Mein, fried chicken. Broccoli Beef....combo meal

The other day I was in the Fruitvale District of East Oakland, and saw Lucky Chef Chen on International Blvd. I saw that it had 4.5 stars on Yelp. Maybe this place is worth a try. This is Chinese fast food. It's prepared foods that sit in warmers. The place was pretty clean, and the lady behind counter was nice and polite. I ordered a 3-item combo meal of Broccoli Beef, Fried Chicken, and Chicken Chow Mein. I'm going to agree with the Yelp score, this food tastes good and you get big servings. The chow mein is the big ropey egg noodles. I got 4 pieces of crispy fried chicken. The broccoli was cooked tender, and I had 3-4 pieces of beef. But in general, this kind of chinese food isn't too healthy. It's greasy noodles and fried foods. If you want healthy, you might order the broccoli beef with steamed rice. Or order a veggie dish with steamed rice. But if you're in a hurry or just like combo plates, Lucky Chef Chen is worth a try. I didn't see any off street parking, I think it's street parking only. located on International Blvd between 35th and 36th Avenues

Wife and I went for a quick Tuesday lunch and had Jook and Fun. For the Jook, we had Fish Filet Jook with Chinese Doughnut for dipping. It was nice, hot, and not runny with slice of fresh fish, although I prefer my fish skinless. For the Fun, we had Beef and Mushroom Cheong Fun that had smooth beef and shitake mushrooms that you can taste. Gum Kuo is the place to go for fresh, silky, rice wrapped rolls. Iconic for Oakland Cheong Fun. Overall, glad they're still around for quick comfort food. Service is multilingual so no need to worry about ordering. They get DT Oakland office peeps although the office crowd has dwindled post-COVID and the rose of remote work.

There were folks waiting for their order so I just asked them if they were in line and they actually ordered already. The staff were super busy but did their best! I ordered three porridges and the fried dough stick. Used my credit card. Then i waited maybe about 8-10 minutes. I love the hustling nature of the restaurant. It gave me nostalgia to see the uncles chopping poultry, the aunties making rice rolls! The porridge were delicious. Dough sticks were soooooo crispy and I loved dipping it into my porridge.

You know a dish is good when you tell yourself, "Oh, I'm just going to try a little bit of this."…read moreAnd then you can't stop eating it. This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?

The carrots and peas in the sauce blend the flavors together well. I would say that the black bean noodles are good but not much meat. Super fast service and they clean the dirty tables right away.
