    Salt & Pepper Rib
    Anthony S.

Was craving some quick and easy Chinese Takeout and Jade Palace definitely satisfied my cravings! I went 15 minutes before they closed, and they were able to whip up 3 delicious dishes in less than 10 minutes! I ordered the orange chicken, salted fish fried rice, and salt and pepper pork ribs. The orange chicken was pretty standard, sweet with a fanta orange flavor and a lot of sauce. The rice was light and not too oily, a good palate cleanser. And the fried ribs were perfectly salty and deep fried. It came with a lot of meat and minimal bones. Everything tasted fresh, and I'll definitely come back for the ribs.

You can't go wrong with Jade palace. Urban Bay Area Chinese food classic establishment. Everything is delicious here and worth trying. The party trays are always a huge hit, exceedingly packed enough to satisfy the largest of parties. My family has been coming here for years and everytime we introduce new people to try, they are always so impressed with the quality of food as well as portion sizes.

Food is ok I remember it being a whole lot better, but as a child growing up maybe you get used to stuff . This was my mom's favorite spot so we always ate from here when she wanted Chinese food. I only got rice it was Mid no special flavor or anything to brag about. It was a taste I couldn't explain I don't know if it was the wok or what but you know how you can taste the grill or what something was cooked on? It was like that type of taste I don't know how to say it. Butttt IYKYK! Services was quick I called it in coming across the bridge. Looks like they may have remodeled inside looks nice and newer seemed more open and lightened up inside .

    Chow mein

Why is there purple cabbage in the chow mein now?! Is it cheaper? It also is very bland and the sweet and sour is watery. They only offer two sizes now which is small and large, no more medium. I think I'm done with these guys. Too expensive and not worth it anymore.

    Shrimp Dumpling(8pc)

Nothing special. Nothing terrible. Do not order the dumplings. They are frozen from store

Here is an example of the quality issue: the majority of my dried fried ribs had little to no meat on them--just bone, excessive salt, and grease. I've been coming to this place for over five years, and the quality of the food has dramatically declined. What used to be flavorful and satisfying is now overly salty, greasy, and careless. This was really disappointing, especially from a place I used to enjoy and support for so long. I ordered the chicken and beef broccoli teriyaki, and it was almost inedible. It was completely covered in salt and oyster sauce, overpowering any real flavor. Very disappointing, and I would not recommend this place anymore.

Probably my favorite Chinese spot in the town! Mainly for their amazing lemon pepper chicken nuggets! So good. Anytime I'm visiting my boyfriend I always make him stop because something about the way they make it. It's made to order so always fresh and hot, crunchy can be greasy if you eat it right away but let them sit for a minute and you're good. Chicken is always tender and cooked thoroughly. Staff is a miss for me all the way. I always feel rushed when I'm here and they just don't seem happy to service people. The prices are on the higher side. So expect to pay a little something. Note: potstickers are deep fried here and extremely thick!! Nasty to me. They only have pork no chicken potstickers, just to note that.

Wife and I went for a quick Tuesday lunch and had Jook and Fun. For the Jook, we had Fish Filet Jook with Chinese Doughnut for dipping. For the Fun, we had Beef and Mushroom Cheong Fun that had smooth beef and shitake mushrooms that you can taste. Gum Kuo is the place to go for fresh, silky, rice wrapped rolls. Iconic for Oakland Cheong Fun. Overall, glad they're still around for quick comfort food. Service is multilingual so no need to worry about ordering. There were folks waiting for their order so I just asked them if they were in line and they actually ordered already. The staff were super busy but did their best! I ordered three porridges and the fried dough stick. Used my credit card. Then i waited maybe about 8-10 minutes. I love the hustling nature of the restaurant. It gave me nostalgia to see the uncles chopping poultry, the aunties making rice rolls! The porridge were delicious. Dough sticks were soooooo crispy and I loved dipping it into my porridge.

This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?
