From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and supported. Emily and Shelby were especially amazing. They were both so kind, patient, and genuinely helpful throughout the whole process. They took the time to answer all of my questions, made sure I felt confident, and really showed how much they care about the animals and the adopters. You can tell the staff truly prioritize the well being of the pets and want to match them with the right homes. Everything was organized, transparent, and efficient. I am so in love with my puppy and SO GREATFUL that I chose to adopt from here!! I highly recommend Valley Humane Society to anyone looking to add a furry family member. Such a positive and heartwarming experience!

VHS goes to local county shelters and saves well-behaved cats and dogs that are about to be euthanized because of overcrowding. They have a medical clinic onsite that does a wellness check, and then their 200+ volunteer army steps in to foster and care for these cats and dogs, while permanent homes can be found. Our tour focused on the cat side of VHS. First we checked out the youngest kittens, which are kept in separate rooms, followed by Kitty City, which houses the remaining cats onsite (the rest are in foster homes). We met all the Catizens of Kitty City, including Mayor Big Bird, who has since been adopted, and several others with interesting personalities and histories, like Donna, Dealership, and Zombie (my favorite!). The animals are lovingly cared for, and the operations at VHS are well-organized (e.g. laundry area, kitchen and break rooms, etc.). Kitty City also includes an outdoor play area for cats, affectionately called "The Catio" !! Thank you, Valley Humane Society, for all that you do for our community.

When we read that there…read morewould be over 2K pets up for adoption over the course of the 2 day weekend, we knew we had to just come to check out all the cute fur babies. Located in Alameda County Fairgrounds, the premise itself is quite big, and parking is plentiful and free, albeit unpaved and rather bumpy. When parking, be sure to make a note of the lot #, located at the front of each lot, in addition to the section letter. We made the mistake of only looking at the section letter and then later realizing that each lot had the same letters. While it may be a bit of a walk from the lot to the actual event itself depending on where you park, they have courtesy shuttles (aka trucks towing trailers with covered seating) that will take you to the event space and then later back to your car. The actual event outside has a TON of different booths hosting different vendors ranging from pet supplies, pet food, to pet photos. And most of them were giving out free samples so we wound up with a big bag full of dog food/treats by the time we left. As Pet Food Express is hosting the event, they give out a free tote bag for you to hold your freebies in as you roam the premise. And many other vendors thankfully also offer free tote bags as well. There are two main indoor buildings, with one side hosting dogs for adoption, and the other side hosting cats. In addition, we also saw many bunnies and even sold birds up for adoption as well. All the animals we encountered were very well socialized, and even the few which had signs warning people not to stick your hand in their cage/crate did not appear aggressive. At one point, my gf fell in love with this one cutie of a puppy that was such a sweetheart! Fortunately (or unfortunately if you ask my gf), she was already adopted. Else I am pretty convinced that we would have probably left there with a new family member. The event is well organized and well spaced out. There are plenty of workers and volunteers around if you have any questions, and despite it being in the mid 90's outside, even the outdoor tents which housed pets had fans and/or mist sprays which kept things cool and comfortable for all animals involved. And to keep dogs from burning their feet on the hot concrete, we saw workers avidly spraying down the ground to keep things cool. Plus water/bath stations were plentiful as well. Overall a really great event that allowed us to interact and play with a variety of different 4-legged friends. Be warned however for the possibility of leaving with a new addition to the family!

Wow this is my first rescue dog - we adopted a 5 yr old English Pointer named Stuart. This is my…read more5th dog, but I've always gotten puppies (3 German Shepherds & 1 small mutt dog). I wanted an adult dog to add with our little mutt dog. We've had him for a total of 6 days now. Hands-down this dog is amazing. He's a great example of why you'd want to adopt an adult dog as he's slid right into our family - exceptionally housebroken (learned the sliding glass door immediately), got right in the car & road (continues to do so as he just sits upright or down -no fuss), easy on the leash when walking, doesn't bolt to take off after anything so far, gentle mouth when taking treats, understands no & wants to please, so far no separation anxiety at all, and gets along with my older kids & little dog and knows his basic commands (sit, wait, etc). He's easier than the puppies I've had. He's naturally adjusting in that he has low growled when we hugged to long or he couldn't see - that's normal as he's learning to trust us or at my little dog when she first got too close. But its looking like he's adjusting to her better as she accidentally rolled off the couch on to him as he was sitting below at my feet. She landed on him-he just got up, no growling or anything, more like what happened as he just got up and sat. His anxiety came at night when he threw up bubbles twice but no more now. I appreciated TVAR's relaxed approach in the process when we wanted to meet. I've had a rescue want me to meet on a weekday in the SF avenues to meet the dog as they were in a hurry. For me to get over there with my family to meet meant after school so essentially I wouldn't get back till after 8 PM. We didn't do that but the expectation was too hard and didn't seem practical as we'd be rushing. TVAR was great as they just said meet at the Petfair happening at the Farmer's Market. This worked perfect as we were able to meet in an atmosphere that was us as well as see how Stuart was amongst lots of people and dogs. We were able to take the time to discuss Stuart with his foster Mommy as well as with the TVAR rep. If you ever want to consider an adult dog, I would given Stuart is a textbook fabulous dog. I appreciate the fact that TVAR took the time to save his life so we could find him. We never would have without them. Plus their description was dead-on the money - they weren't overselling him, they actually undersold him given how great he's been so far. Kudos to TVAR.

I found a kitten on Facebook being represented by this agency that held at a foster in Stockton. I…read moreexpressed interest and then changed my mind because I had just put my cat down I was going through a range of emotions. But I could not stop thinking about this cat so I made arrangements to pick him up on a Monday on my return from San Jose to Folsom. The foster house (Risha / Larissa) met me. I was so disgusted by this house that I almost changed my mind. The outside was so dirty and had six or eight feral cats on her porch and in her driveway. They were cat crates and other things strewn all over the place. The outside reeked of cat urine. I was afraid to go inside but stepped in to pet the cat that I was interested in. The house was so filthy, cluttered, and in total disarray, and it also reeks of urine. At this point I decided to get the cat simply to get him out of that situation if nothing else. She did not have any of his paperwork ready, although he was supposedly at an adoption event the day before so you would think that it should be handy. She showed me quickly on her phone but never sent me any of the documentation for this cat, his vaccines, his microchip, or neutering. She gave him a shot of something - who knows what - in the driveway which was appalling. She is not a vet or a vet tech, simply volunteers at a shelter. I don't think she has any other qualifications to be giving vaccines let alone doing it and unsanitary conditions outside. Once I got this cat home I realized he is covered in fleas. I rushed out to buy flea bath and flea protection and have been trying to eradicate them from my home and car for the last 5 days. I demanded a full refund from this agency not only for the adoption but for the flea treatment. This should have been done before he ever left her possession. He also should've had a nail trim but he didn't. The cat also smelled like urine like her disgusting house. I was surprised that they refunded all of my money for the adoption and the flea protection. I am grateful for that because this cat needs to be seen at the vet and make sure he is healthy has been neutered and update his shots because I have no idea what they actually gave him. They tried to make me sign a ridiculous contract six days later after demanding his paperwork. The contract tries to hold the adoptee much more accountable for the health and wellness of a pet that they don't uphold themselves. It also says that if you cannot keep the cat that you need to give it back to them. Over my dead body would I ever give this cat back to that woman. She should not be allowed to have pets. She also should not be allowed to have children but she does! I feel so bad for those kids as well as the pets. East of Eden should be much more responsible with who they associate with and inspect the homes and conditions of their fosters that they are advertising. This situation was infuriating. In the end I have what appears to be a very happy and healthy cat and I am thankful for that and I am sure he is thankful to be out of that situation. Stay away from this agency!

I got a lot of run around and they were pretty short with me when I would talk to them on the phone. I even found myself apologizing to one of the ladies because she made me feel like I was wasting her time as she was making a Starbucks order and speaking to me at the same time. A lady text me in regards to the kittens but she eventually stopped messaging back. we didn't end up getting any kittens which we were really hoping for. they definitely need more organization and communication between staff members. you'd think they would want the kittens to go to good homes quickly but this was not the case with east of Eden.
