I've been taking my dog for daycare 1-2 days per week for about 3 years. He loves it, which is my indicator that they take good care of him. He comes home tired and is a happy social dog. Well, we've been bringing our fur baby here since 2009, and have typically had stellar service. However, in May of 2025 we noticed an overcharge of $10 on our bill. When we inquired about it, we were told it was a "holiday upcharge". They have never charged this before, it did not say a word about it on their website, there was no notification of this 20% random increase from them, and when we inquired about it, the woman was very rude. Any decent business knows that if you don't give notice of such a change, you notify your customers prior to the change. Our baby got no extra service, no special visit, nothing. It was the week before Memorial Day weekend, so it was technically not even the weekend. It's very sad since we have been coming for so long, and have been a great customer. They need to learn that you cannot treat customers this way and expect them to return. We have already made a reservation at another service, and they mentioned to us they had two new families in addition to ours as a result of Lucky Dog's behavior and treatment. Hope they enjoyed that $10 upcharge since it will be the last we ever spend there. Over the last 16 years we've spent approximately $18,000 at LD. Never again! read more

I am so grateful to have this service on the Northeast side of Indy. For $26/day, or $13/half day, your pup can socialize with other dogs and, most importantly, come home wiped out! Check-in and check-out is a smooth process. Be sure to make reservations online as this place can fill up quickly. They have cameras so you can check on your dog throughout the day. I also appreciate their dedication to collecting up to date vaccines so your pup can have some healthy fun. I have not tried the classes or the boarding, but love the daycare! read more

Very sad to see the one star review below. Had to come and give them the 5 stars they deserve! Where do I even start? In December of 2019, Lucky dog rescued my dog when his owner passed away. I adopted him with ease. The process was simple, everyone was so kind, and Larry has been the best addition to my life! A few months later I took him back for a basic training class that was SO fun. We learned a lot and genuinely had a blast coming each week. Larry has also gone back for daycare on multiple occasions. I love that you can watch them on camera. He seems to enjoy it and comes home exhausted from a day full of playing. A plus to adopting a dog from here is that you get a discount on all of their services! The only service I have not tried is boarding. If I ever need to though, I know exactly where he's going. To add even more to my fantastic Lucky Dog experience, in June of this year my roommate adopted her dog through Lucky Dog Retreat. He also came from a bummer of a situation. Again, the process was super easy, they checked what they needed to, and we were on our way! Everyone is so kind and the owner, Robin, even came out to thank us for adopting these two old men. While we were overseas our cherished pup vacayed at Lucky Dog and while delirious to see us again, looked very well cared for. This was her second time staying there and when my husband dropped her off she trotted very willingly with the person taking over, and that says as much as I need to feel she felt safe and unafraid. I'd give the full five stars except for the fact that my confirmation paperwork did not agree with their expectation for pickup; they showed us coming the following day. so, she did not get the pre-exit bath I'd requested, but in the overall scheme of things it was not a biggie. We will definitely use Lucky Dog for any future travel that cannot include our baby! read more

We have been taking our dog Foster here pretty much since getting him in 2016. We did puppy training and a test run with day care. He did very well with it all. His is a super hyper Terrier Mix. We boarded him and a 17 year old Pom when I inherited him when my Mom passed. They were great with the old Pom. They put him in his kennel during a part of the day when they could see he was tired and over being around the other dogs. He had never been boarded when my Mom had him but he did super. After losing my Moms Pom we got a Pembroke Corgi. She also went thru puppy training at Lucky Dog. She and her Terrier brother go to daycare and boarding a few times a year. They both come home exhausted. I have learned to get them baths done or they come home kinda stinky. So far we've not had any issues. They have both had Giardia in the past which can be picked up by eating Rabbit poo. We have rabbits, squirrels, and racoons running around our yard. Medication from the vet and they were fine. They are never boarded unless they are totally healthy. I always send their medical reports every time we leave them. You run the risk of picking up things just taking your dog on a walk. They clean their floors a few times a day with an industrial floor cleaner. And through out the day mop up messes with disinfectant. The expansion had been great. They now have the entire building and back yard. We have also know the owner for years. Also love the web cams so I can watch the kids play. read more

My dog had been a regular client of Lucky Dog for almost 10 years since he had been a puppy. One unfortunate weekend I was called out of town for an unexpected death in my family and I had to leave my dog unexpectedly. He had been having major health issues with his liver and did not feel his best. I dropped him off on a Friday morning and Saturday afternoon I received a call from the facility from an employee stating that my dog was humping and not behaving himself "bullying" and he was no longer allowed to come back to the facility. This was the first I had ever been informed of his misbehavior or the fact he might not ever be allowed to return. I totally understand they cannot have dogs that might be dangerous, but my dog is a 10 year old labrador retriever without a malicious bone in his body. Since that weekend he has stayed at a competitor and they have had nothing but rave reviews of his behavior during day care and play all day and overnight stays. All I would have asked is a call from the manager and a discussion as to why he might not be behaving. Ie...illness and a better heads up on the possible outcome of never being allowed back. I am thankful for our new facility and the care he is currently getting. read more

Lucky Dog Retreat does not take responsibility for NEGLIGENCE (they even say in their WAIVER) - BE WARNED We boarded our 3.5 year old, healthy, active dog (corgi) twice at LDR, first time was fine, and the second time our dog never came home. We picked him up on a Monday after a four night stay, and by Wednesday he was in the ICU with pneumonia. Our emergency care veterinarian said pneumonia symptoms commonly require a 5-7 day incubation period and this aligned with Rocky's stay at LDR, given he had not been anywhere else nor around other dogs after he came home from boarding. He died 35 hours later after being admitted to the ICU, choking on fluid in his lungs. We then spoke with the three managers (Meg, Jennifer, and Madison) who shed light on how occupied the facility is on a daily basis without vigilant in-take screening on dogs being dropped off and throughout the day. With the volume of dogs that come through this facility (day care and boarding at the same time in one play room), it is a Petri dish for infectious diseases to easily be passed from dog to dog regardless of their cleaning parameters. They specifically said hundreds of dogs came through the four day period Rocky stayed there and that it would be too time consuming/inconvenient to reach out to every owner to a) inform them of a very severe AND infectious pneumonia case their dog may have been exposed to and b) try and determine which dog was sick. We also asked to speak to LDR's new owners and it has been radio silent ever since we went and confronted them on our dog's death. The three managers were apologetic, but were covering their asses by telling us this is going to be dealt with and potentially compensated for their negligence, but they don't seem to care enough to call us back. Although we will not receive any financial retribution (nor do we care at this point), let all future dog owners seeking a reliable and clean boarding facility, steer clear of this option. Boarding facilities in general are a gamble, however it would best benefit you to board at a vet (lower volume of boarding occupants and higher cleaning attentiveness). They might say they care and have their eyes on all day care/boarding occupants, but the amount of dogs accepted in one place and lack of stringent screenings during in-take, shows they do not care. From grieving dog owners to you - you have been warned. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. read more

Love these people. I've moved downtown, and they remain one of my very top choices in the city despite the drive to get to their location. Absolutely fantastic service + care, and, unlike several other places in Indy, they take great care not to overload the facility with dog guests. I love that you can view the dogs via their webcam, and I have nothing but glowing things to say about everyone involved with this place. The owner also runs a very successful dog rescue. This was by far one of the most traumatic dog rescue places I have been. Cannot speak for their doggy daycare services and or their training abilities. I know I spoke with the owner multiple occasions regarding a dog named Sonny that had been returned at least four times by different families. I tried to speak with the owner about this dog and staff and they were the rudest, people I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I felt tempted to call channel 6 news as his dog has had a very tough life without much help from them apparently. He keeps ending up back here, I assure you I have friends that have rescued from them as well and their policies are unreasonable and again the staff and owner are the rudest! If you know anything about me, you know that my giant Great Dane is my child. In most situations he comes first. And when our long time standard location for daycare and boarding closed unexpectedly in January 2017, we were on the hunt for a new facility. After countless hours of searching, I decided to try Lucky Dog. Best. Decision. Ever. I've used them countless day for daycare and several times for boarding. They just care so much about animals, and it shows. If there is any issue at all, they call to tell me (when boarding). They don't have any caged/fenced areas and dogs are free from 7am-7pm, expect for an afternoon food break. And of course they have a webcam so you can watch your furry children all day! Because of their awesomeness, they tend to book kinda far in advance, especially on holidays (think Christmas - yes they are open). So book ahead online. Pro tip - make your reservations and cancel them 24 hours in advance if you don't need it. If you need a place for doggy daycare or boarding, this is your spot! read more

I stopped by for a tour a couple days before my pup's first daycare visit. We waited for a moment and began to look around the area where items (leashes, shirts, etc) are for sale. The owner's office is there, too, where suddenly two very vicious dogs tried to jump out at my pup from behind a small child's gate. There was no apology, the owner didn't even stand up to speak to us. My poor pup was frightened from the dogs growling, barking, showing their teeth. Bad first impression. Things got worse as the bad smell lingered though our tour. The back room where dogs are crated (daycare = crate time? weird) was not clean. As we continued back, there was poop on the floor and more smelly, unclean areas. We left shortly after - I will never subject my dog to the not-so-lucky "retreat." read more

Better late than never...my dog JellyBean became part of the Lucky Dog family a couple of years ago. I can truly say that they adore and pamper my little JellyBean. He has Megaesophagus and they helped follow his protocol. He loves to go and play all day where he is spoiled and pampered like a little King. The staff is amazing and Jennifer the manager is JellyBean's best girlfriend. He absolutely adores her!!! Also, we adopted a dog for my mom named Tori and she is the best. Did the two-hour trial run, and my dog passed. Decided to do a 1/2 day of daycare. It was very smelly that day - strong urine smell! Did not have time to watch the webcams through the trial so decided to watch on the 1/2 day. The room he was in had approximately 15 other dogs. The only time staff would go in and out was to clean up messes. I was expecting a little more interaction w/ the dogs when they were in the room, but the dogs were ignored. Saw on a webcam for the other room that there were typically two staff members in there at all times. Some of the other dogs seemed to be having fun, but the ones that weren't playing w/ each other were standing around the whole time. I've decided not to take him back. He can stand around at home for free. I would suggest watching the webcams during the trial! read more

I have brought my 1.5 year old dog there several times and almost every time I would check in on the webcam, he was in the time out area. I asked when picking him up why he was put in time out and they told me he "had too much energy" and needed some time to himself. I thought the whole point of taking him there was to get his energy out? I brought him back a couple more times thinking it was a one time thing. Not the case. He was in the time out area again when I would check in on the webcam. When picking him up they never told me he was put in time out and just let me pay and leave. There are plenty of other great doggie day cares in the area that allow the dogs to play (like dogs should) and get their energy out. read more

We had the worst experience with Lucky Dog. We have boarded our dog dozens of times with other places, but never have we been so appalled with the treatment. We did a trial with Lennon, a pit bull mix, the Saturday before our trip for two hours to see how he would interact with the dogs that were there. We picked him back up and the staff stated there were no problems - he did perfect. Confident that this would be a good fit, especially with their webcams to watch him later, we proceeded with the plan to board him for 2 nights, have my brother watch him for a week, and then proceed to board him another 3 nights. When we went to drop our dog off, the staff took the leash and led Lennon away without me noticing. Wanting to say goodbye before we would leave for a month to Thailand, I rushed after him. The staff slammed the door they led him through in my face, scolded me, and stated "Dogs are like children, you'll only make him more anxious". And she didn't let me say goodbye, I really couldn't believe it. Disgruntled, we payed, then left. During our trip, we tried several times to access the webcam and view our Lennon. Not a single time were we able to see him on there. We chalked this up to him being outside, or poor timing. Upon returning, my mom and brother informed us that the staff had to have him kenneled the entirety of his stay. They claimed our dog was "marking his territory" with a mean sounding bark, and they did not feel comfortable. They can tell this from a bark? All of the dogs were barking when we were there, but ours was marking his territory? This is despite a trial session, and the fact that he has never had an issue with previous boarding or any other dogs, ever. Previous boarding places have even stated that he was so sweet that they wanted to take him home. We chose Lucky Dog, because it's close to home and we thought he would love playing with other dogs, like a mini vacation when we were away, instead they kept him in a cage the entire time. It makes me feel awful and breaks my heart. The fact that they did not, and still have not, informed us of keeping him caged throughout his entire stay via email, phone, or any other method and that they were reluctant to mention it to my brother/mom at pickup makes us extremely upset. We believe that the fact he is a pit bull mix led the staff to discriminate against him, and for that reason we will never be returning to Lucky Dog Retreat. read more

When I said to her "if you are too busy i can go somewhere else" she replied "ok" and turned around and went back to whatever it was she was doing. This business is not built for boarding. It's fine if you're wanting to drop your dogs off for the day and pick them up in the afternoon. I would not recommend boarding with them. We have two dogs that stayed there for 8 days while we were out of town and when we picked them up, one had kennel cough and the other had giardia. The one with giardia had just been tested weeks prior with negative results, so it clearly was picked up at Lucky dog. I called and asked the owners if they noticed any of the symptoms for either dog, the answer was no (my wife and I knew within 10 minutes of picking up the pups that they had issues). The owners then proceeded to let me know that in the winter with melting snow it's difficult to control the spread of giardia. I didn't like that answer considering all of the dogs are supposedly screened for it prior to being accepted. She then suggested it could be from them eating poop in our backyard. I found that hard to believe considering our dogs tested negative just 1 week prior to our dropping them off. I would also note that one of our dogs had been there several times prior to this, and she came back with kennel cough almost every time. This visit was her first run-in with Giardia. The owners handling of the complaint after I handed them $400 for the service was upsetting. $600 later in veterinary bills the dogs are better, and we'll be taking them to First Friend in Noblesville from here on out for boarding. read more

The first day he was in the big room and seemed to be loving it. The second and third day they had him in the small room with fewer dogs. Bad experience. My son adopted a dog but it didn't work out. He took Dog to vet just to have it checked out and vet told him the dog was dangerous. She couldn't even complete the exam. The dog also snapped and growled at my youngest son at one point when he was trying to play with it. He took the dog back and staff was not very friendly about it. They refunded the money but their attitude was horrible. They questioned him why he took dog to the vet (really??) and then said 3 days wasn't long enough......if that's that's the case they need to make the return policy longer than 3 days! I was floored they had no respect for the advice of a veterinarian. My son was heartbroken he had to take her back and then their cold-hearted reaction was ridiculous. If you adopt a dog from this place and you return it, be prepared for the guilt trip they lay on you. read more

We have taken our dog to Lucky Dog for over 10 years. He used to go twice weekly when we both worked, but now only attends once weekly. We travel frequently so he boards at Lucky Dog, too. Over the years, we have NEVER had a bad experience with our dog either boarding or attending day care. The owner Robin is dedicated to dogs! She treats them humanely and always is willing to take in rescue dogs. Ace has had some minor medical problems and three surgeries during the time he has been at LD. The staff has administered his medications as ordered and observed the restrictions imposed by post-op instructions. The dog care attendants are wonderful with the dogs and show them lots of love and TLC. Jennifer is efficient and never forgets to insure that Ace is bathed and had his nails cut when ordered. I imagine it is difficult to have so many dogs of differing temperament and upbringing gathered in one area, especially if some of the dogs are new to day care. The period of adjustment can also be difficult, more for some than others. I feel that the LD staff do their best to make sure that all the dogs are treated fairly and safely. The decision to isolate one dog who has perhaps not adjusted as quickly to a day care environment is made with the best interest of ALL the dogs. LD cannot put other dogs at risk if on one particular day, at one particular time, another dog is aggressive due to the newness of the day care situation and being around so many other dogs. Due to their licensure, they are obligated to enforce certain rules and safeguards on behalf of the dogs they are responsible for. I work in healthcare and always tell families who are looking for adult day care or long-term care for their loved one the same thing. There is not a "perfect" place outside of the home and no substitute for one on one care. However, there are good places where the staff does their best to meet the needs and the safety of their residents. This is the same with Lucky Dog. Thank you Lucky Dog for taking such great care of Ace and giving us peace of mind that he will be well cared for while we are out of town. read more
