This is my husband's review, I am transcribing for him: Of the donut genre, this is hands-down the best option. Maple bars are fantastic, and I would sleep on a bed of them if I could. His advice is to get there early if you want a cheese danish because they sell out asap; he says they are rumored to exist but he's never actually seen them because they're all gone by the time he gets there at 8am on a Saturday morning. I've lived in Burien my whole life and my parents used to take me here to get donuts all the time and now as an adult with kids I take my little ones here for delicious fresh donuts every Friday. Ok... so it looks like a crapy hole in the wall... but is it??? My husband and I were craving what we usually crave... DONUTS! This place wad just barely okay. We came here on 6/6 in the morning before 9.30. We got an apple fritter, a chocolate iced donut, and a glazed donut. They all seemed to be leftover from the night before. For being a donut shop, and it being MORNING, I'd expect fresh. Also, do not ever buy their iced coffee. UPDATE: Westernco Donut in Bellevue is now the best doughnut shop I have found in the area. Lucky is still great though. Although I only found 2 truly exceptional items, Lucky Donuts did at worst an average job on its other doughnuts (and some were far better than the average). Note that its prices are about 50% higher than the market bottom (compare with Golden House), but are still not quite as high as Top Pot's. The exceptional items are the buttermilk bars and the apple fritters, which both near perfection. The former are perfect aside from being a little on the small side. Their moistness, tenderness, and sweetness are without fault and they still manage to maintain a crisp outer glaze. The latter are soft on the inside while being crispy on the whole outside (not just at the edges) and maintaining a satisfying sweetness. The only clear fault is the slightly overcooked edges, which impart a mild bitter taste. The raised doughnuts also stand out, though they suffer slightly from overraised dough, which gives them a slight bitter flavor. They are, however, perfectly cooked and glazed. The maple bars, old fashioneds, cream-filled and crullers are all good too, albeit not dramatically better than the average for a respectable doughnut shop. The maple bars are slightly on the tough side--perhaps due to being slightly overcooked--but are otherwise unremarkable. The old fashioneds are a little overcooked and dry, and possibly slightly overspiced. The cream-filled is fairly standard except that its cream has a slightly...papery?...aftertaste instead of the usual sour one. The crullers are pretty average except that their dough is quite rich, possibly because they do not inflate much (they are small). read more

These were pretty good. My daughter thought the maple bar was the best. She loves that it was not filled, she states the extra stuff just would ruin it. Liked the buttermilk bar. The chocolate didn't taste like chocolate l, this was a disappointment. read more

Always walked by this place because my wife goes to the waynes next door. Finally tried it and it's pretty good. The price is good and the donuts are really fresh. It's nice and fluffy unlike the "fresh" donuts from the grocery stores. Try going in the morning as they run out pretty quick. It can get busy at times. Definitely give it a try. read more

Great old time atmosphere when you drive up and walk in. Personable people helping you behind the counter and everyone there was happy at 8:30 on a Saturday morning when I was there this morning getting donuts for my daughter's birthday. The selection was good, everything looked fresh as you'd expect at a donut shop but don't always get these days. I got one of the buttermilk bars based on the reviews here and I didn't care for it too much but I don't typically like the old style donuts, too dry for me. So I'm not sure I'd go off of my review for those. :) Our maple bars, chocolate bars and creme filled donuts were fluffy, fresh and delicious. One thing to note: Thankfully I read the reviews here first that it was cash only so I made sure to have some cash, but otherwise I never carry cash and would have had to find an ATM and come back if I hadn't known ahead of time. We don't eat donuts too often but we'll be back next time we want some. read more

Lucky Donuts was recommended to me when I first moved to South Seattle by a local who knew his donuts--lifelong truck driver. He was right. One of our country's disappearing treasures is the family owned and operated donut shop. Lucky Donut is one such destination. The friendly baker/proprietor offers up his fresh baked good Monday through Saturday. Their donuts have just the right texture; they're not leaden blocks like Top Pot or tasteless like Safeway's. He has a wide selection but you can't wait too late in the day or you'll go without - I got there about noon one day and it was pretty well sold out, though I did get a nice muffin. read more

OK... these are not the best donuts I have ever had, but definitely not the worst. Lucky is like taking a trip in time. The old men sitting around sipping coffee and having their old men meetings. No hip interior or exterior, just a classic coffee/donut shop. The donuts are made in house and are decent, not too greasy and there is a good selection of basic donuts. They are priced well too. I work in Burien and have cravings for donuts every now and then and this place beats the Burien competition. Delicious! Me and one my friends were on a small hunt for cinnamon rolls and pastries when I came across this place on yelp. Reviews gave it a fair rating, some dislikes, some likes. So we decided to try it out. This place seemed familiar to me and when we arrived it occurred to me it was that run down looking place I always pass. So I decided to still give it a shot. I got the apple fritter, and my gosh have I never had a more tasty donut in the Seattle area. It was a perfect balance of everything and it was still fresh. (Wasn't hot or anything ) . When we finished our transaction the man at the counter joyfully struck up a small friendly conversation with us about our Seahawks. Overall - Friendly delicious donut shop!!! Great, fluffy, sweet donuts. Baverian cream filled donut and the raspberry filled donut were amazing. Life changing for someone like me who hails from Florida and only eats donuts from places like Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme. The raspberry jelly tasted sweet but with a fresh aftertaste and the dough was nice and soft, pretty much melting in your mouth. The Bavarian creme was pretty much a special occasion for me when I tried it because I have been searching the perfect Bavarian creme donut and this is definitely it. Now to the downsides. The coffee not very good. The iced coffee, comes out of a carton. Finally the cake donuts aren't that good. That's why I gave it three stars. The place needs a revamp in the decor, and maybe needs to invest some money in a barista machine. read more

Love love love their maple bacon bar!! The doughnut was light and fluffy and the maple frosting was the perfect amount of maple to sweet. Actually I love all their donuts that I have tried! They all looked so good ended up leaving with a dozen when I have a family of three!! They have filled, chocolate, frosted, sprinkles and everything in between!! Have great amount of each flavor when I showed up in the afternoon. Which is so nice to not just have 3 options! The lemon filling was not my favorite. My daughter loved the pink frosted with sprinkles! The man working was super sweet with my daughter, he asked her which one she wanted. Which as a toddler she loved someone asking her opinion. At $0.90 a donut or $9 a dozen, I wouldn't call it affordable either. It's a small business operated by the owner. But so are most of the other donut shops. I was really excited to try this place after I read about them in Red Tricycle. We had a bacon maple bar - SO YUMMY!! My oldest son had jelly filled and said they were the best he every ate. Ehh.. They have sweets, none look too appealing... Probably because I am strawberry sprinkle donut lover and here they have a lot of cake donuts that I'm don't like. So, the only strawberry sprinkle was on a cake donut... So I had to settle for something else. And now that I'm at work I don't even want it because the icing has slightly melted making it look even less okay than when I picked it... I stopped in and saw horrible donuts. the chocolate did nit look like chocolate and there was very little maple on he bars. It looked like they watered down the maple and chocolate, the chocolate looked like carmel. very gross. I ended up getting a cinnamon role donut with little cinnamon. Delicious fresh donuts. Stopped after reading the reviews and my 13 year old was craving a donut. Glad Yelp pointed us here. We got here at 1130 in the morning and there was still a good selection. We all got something different and all of them delicious. My favorite was the chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting and peanuts. A lot less money than the chain shops. Lucky me that Lucky Donuts is right on my way to work. Heard about this via a Groupon deal, didn't get the deal, but in reading the reviews on Yelp knew I had to try it. The softness and lightness of their raised donuts make every other fresh donut I have had taste like they came off the day old clearance rack. They almost melt in your mouth, but without the greasiness of those other famous "Hot Now" donuts. And they stayed fresh most of the day, unlike other places where you have to nuke the donuts if you don't eat them within an hour or two. My favorite were the maple bars with crunchy bacon sprinkled on top, they cost a bit more than the other donuts in the case, but well worth it. The store is very bright and spic and span, you can tell that they keep everything sanitary and clean, and the staff is friendly, even at the crack of dawn. read more
