    Custom 16" cake
    Ariana A.

I always enjoy going to Lucky because of the huge variety of brands that they carry, lots of parking, and freebies if you're a Lucky Rewards member. Prior to Safeway opening, Lucky used to be the only grocery store in Hercules. So you could expect that right at 5pm, the lines would be huge. Nowadays it isn't too crowded inside the store, which makes for a very pleasant shopping experience. Bakery section: I always make this section a must-go for every shopping trip, even if I don't plan to buy any bakery items. There's a wide array of cookies, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, cakes, and more. This Thanksgiving we ordered a custom cake for the first time which looked great. For a 16" custom cake, the cost was only $19.99. Hot Food Section: I highly recommend the vinegar chicken. The flavor is so strong and delicious. I think it's a popular item because the past few times I went to buy some, they were sold out and I would have to wait for the new batch to be ready. Lucky Rewards: You can sing up easily for their rewards program online. $1= 1 base point, you can accumulate points for $1, $5, $10 dollar discounts. They also have weekly free items that they offer on the app. You just clip your digital coupon, enter your rewards phone number at check-out, and you automatically get the item free when the cashier scans it. Check-out Experience: There usually aren't that many lanes open, around 1 or 2. There are 4 self check-out stands available, typically one would be out of service.

4 out of 24 games available.... Very disappointed....

Sooooo, I've been in Hercules for over 20 years now.... And I have never been as disappointed in the quality of service as of lately. Everyone knows there are only 5 public schools in our city. They ALL have graduation on the same week...how much more convenient can that be for a full service grocery store to just have even 5 pallets of fresh flowers for the city to buy to celebrate graduations with?? Let's just say there are 200 kids (super low ball) per school.... 200 kids X 5 schools + teachers and staff and also regular sales...... How can they go wrong with having that quantity on hand. Instead, what did they have? Slim pickings of dying / half dead bouquets.... Not even worth $2.00 a bouquet. I was so dissatisfied that I went to plan B. Lottery scratchers. And what happened??? The only game not sold out was the $5 Scrabble scratchers? Yet, whoever is leading this ship beat me to it by making sure I can't spend any money there.

    Cooked shrimp

Stopped in for some cooked shrimps and cocktail sauce. I saw in the glass drawers the cooked shrimps I bought were listed at $8.99 a pound . I asked the friendly personnel behind the counter for 4 pounds of shrimps. Half way trying to self pay for my cocktail sauce. I noticed the price listed in the sticker wrapped shrimps said $12.99 a pound. ( I thought geesh it's more than the bigger size shrimps) Ran back to the the seafood department asked the gentleman how much a pound , he said he's $12.99. I informed him I could be wrong but I swore the sticker advertised price for eve shrimps I bought were listed as 8.99 a pound. .. he gave me his two cents as to why it costs this much. I proceeded to ask him can you flip that label over it should read $8.99 a pound .. Bingo!! Got him to change my prices a big $10 difference. make sure to always check their pricing before leaving the stores.

Of course only 2 checkouts open and a line to the back

They do carry certain items that I can't always find elsewhere, which is a plus. That said, the prices are definitely on the high side, and the fresh produce selection is pretty limited. I also rarely ask employees where things are because most of the workers seem to be concentrated near the front of the store. Starbucks also closes too early, which is disappointing when you're there later in the day. The biggest issue for me is the parking design--it's awkward and frustrating to navigate. Overall, it's convenient for picking up a few essentials, but I wouldn't consider it my go-to store for a full grocery trip.

The cake was advertised as tres leches, but it was incredibly dry. Instead of being moist and soaked with milk, the sponge was dry and crumbly. Most of my family took only a bite or two and didn't want to eat the rest. To make matters worse, we found what appeared to be a small bug inside one of the slices. That immediately ruined everyone's appetite, and the cake ended up being thrown away. We paid $29.99 for this cake and expected it to be fresh, especially since it was purchased several days before the "Best If Used By" date. Serving this at a birthday celebration was embarrassing. I hope Safeway takes bakery quality control more seriously because this experience was unacceptable.

I asked him where the dry ice was, and he was incredibly kind, polite, and helpful. Instead of just pointing me in the direction, he took the time to explain exactly where to find it and made sure I was able to get what I needed an also made sure he explained how to safely handle the dry ice. His friendly attitude and willingness to help really stood out and made my shopping experience much better. Customer service like his doesn't go unnoticed. To be realistic, they put codes on the restrooms so homeless people don't use it regularly to use the sink as a shower. I get that everyone has to use the restroom. But they'd prefer if a homeless person asks a store associate and they judge their sanity/need for help etc. If you're reading this, you likely have a phone/computer (not to say a homeless person wouldn't have a phone), and can make use of the restroom code. I had to type this out because Yelp no longer has a "tips" section where I can just post a 1 liner. I have to hit the minimum words/characters to post. In other news: Lucky has been on fire lately with their deals, especially for July. Their $1.99/lb cherries, been eating them like there's no tomorrow.

We all have somewhere to be I personally have minor scoliosis I was dying to be home after my own 8 hour shift. One of her coworkers had the AUDACITY to close Dez's line WITHOUT telling myself or anyone what to do, NOR redirecting us to another line. On the other hand, DEZ was quick. Her shift had ended, she was supposed to be off but DECIDED to help, call her manager to let Him know (TIM) that she would be going overtime AND, she was STILL checking people out. She THEN proceeded to contact another coworker to reopen her line to the remaining customers (that were left IN THE BLUE BY the second employee; white woman, with mask+air filter device) and asked him to stand at the end of the line so she could get relieved EFFICIENTLY. Oh and yes, I don't want to fail to mention that DEZ took care of US with kindness AND a smile. TIM YOU BETTER RECOGNIZE DEZ BY GIVING HER A RAISE BECAUSE ITS EMPLOYEES LIKE HER THAT WILL MAKE ME SHOP THERE AGAIN. And it's employees like the other one (air filter lady) that will keep me away and additionally bring YOU problems with all due respect. SHE NEEDS TO WORK ON HER COMMUNICATION etiquette.

Safeway tied up the building they were occupying so no new supermarket could take over the property. On the plus side, it has opened the area for smaller markets like this one to serve the people of Rodeo. This store reminds me of the stores my mom shopped at before a supermarket moved in our neighborhood.
