Its nothing to do with this store management but its about their product. I just purchased chicken thighs sold by Lucky under their brand known as Master Cut. These are supposed to be Skinless Boneless. Attached are 3 pictures showing these pieces full of attached skin. The packaging top shows no skin but when I came home and flipped the package, the bottom of the package showed a lot of skin, and after opening saw all pieces had a lot of attached skin. This is fooling the public by saying skinless on the package but actually, that is not the case. Its pathetic that a big corporation like Lucky is doing this to the buying customers. read more

In Hercules you really only have this grocery store until the New Safeway is built, however be careful when shopping there because they have so many items with expired dates on them and instead of getting rid of those expired items they place them on sale!!! So I work as a Instacart shopper and I'm allowed a limited amount of time to shop/checkout to keep my scores up. Due to the lines being ridiculously long with no other cashiers being called up to the register, I got in line at self checkout only to be rudely told to leave the self checkout stand due to having more than 15 items in my cart. I had TWO separate orders, mind you, with less than 15 items per order. There was absolutely no need for the disgusting attitude the employee displayed in front of other customers and employees. I am thoroughly disappointed in Luckys and will be avoiding this store as best I can, even declining future orders from Instacart that send me here. The only reason I come here is it's closer to my house than the one in Pinole. This branch is not as well-stocked; I can recall at least two instances when they've ran out of the Unsweetened French Vanilla Coffeemate. I often have to walk from one end of the store to the other looking for a shopping basket, almost always with no luck. When I finally asked where they normally keep the shopping baskets, I was told they only had about ten of them in the entire store. omg. i wanted to buy lotto tickets one Sunday afternoon and was unsuccessful because their counter was closed. wth? Beware of their lamb shoulder steak ! Stinks like hell ! As soon as I open the package I noticed the smell ! I gave it the benefits of the doubt and still cooked it but the taste , it's like expired meat they still put on shelf , omg why on earth you sell stinky lamb shoulder steak you know that can make people sick ? I don't know if I should report them to the health department because luckily I didn't get sick from eating it because I only had a few bite , but this also happened at sprouts once I don't know what is it with lamb shoulder steak , they either don't process them properly or don't know how to handle them, if you don't know how to handle them why you sell them for god sake ! Lucky is not following the masking guidelines. One of the checkers was wearing her mask beneath her nose, and when I pointed it out, she slightly shrugged her shoulders and said, "I'm claustrophobic." And that, apparently, was that. End of discussion. Doesn't matter if she may be spreading the virus to customers and co-workers because she claims she's claustrophobic. Also, the customers are pulling off masks to talk on cell phones. When I left the store two of the employees were on break outside. They were standing about 1.5 from each other, chatting. One had a mask; the other did not. **This is bad management.** The message Lucky is putting out is, "We don't give a ****." I'm going to El Cerrito Grocery instead. They're doing it right. read more

I have been supporting this lucky store for a long time since I moved to hercules. I shopped there for over a decade with no problems. The place now is beginning to be a ghost town and the produce are not as fresh. I had a incident with the cashier on Wednesday about discount on the beer and she said well the machine didn't say it was on sale. So I told them that I scan the barcode and showed her my screen. she was like did I scan it I was like I just stated that then she told one of the other worker to go check and she got the same respond and then stated I had to download the lucky's app. well for one thing it didn't state that on the barcode paper. I guess I missed the fine prints. But over all I told the cashier forget the discount and proceed to go my way then she stated well I should read carefully so I have her had it and told her that I'm a routine customer who goes there at least 3x a week for over a decade and that her customer service sucks and that I'm done coming here and going to Safeway. I told her I was doing her a favor to keep her job as customers are flocking to Safeway... Her response is go ahead... This is the crap I hate when I'm trying to support business around the neighborhood and they forget to serve the people who pays their freaking paycheck. I've got the receipt and going to report to their headquarters all in all I'm done with this crappy Lucky's at Hercules, Safteway just got a new customer. read more

Safeway is closer to my home in Rodeo. However Luckys is always less crowded and has self checkout. I invited my Daughter for Tacos earlier in the day, so I just needed a few items. Searching for the "ethnic" food section I found many Asian items, in two separate isles. I find the Mexican section walked up and down scanning the shelves for taco shells. No Taco shells. A woman is looking for something also, I ask her if this is where I should find taco shells, she replies yes. Suggest where the tortillas are I might find them there. Already checked and no shells. So the cashiers always ask , "find everything okay?" Now I have to use a cashier. I prefer self check out. I asked him if he cold have someone retrieve me some shells. Usually he could send his bagger, but his bagger was a disable senior so he had to leave and look for himself. Came back and said , "out of stock at this time" You call this a Superstore? Did the Hispanic heritage Month clean you out of shells? I had another bad experience at this store when there was not one bottle of chilled juice. read more

I don't shop here often. In the past two years I've had three experiences now where one or two items that I purchased were expired by over a month. (I've shopped maybe 6 times in the past two years here.) I'm not used to checking expiration dates because most of the other grocery stores I shop at have non-expired food. Okay, okay. I might as well write a review for this place because... well... it is the one and only supermarket located in Hercules. They recently moved everything around in the store so now every time I come here to buy something, I always have to ask for help. And since the change was so recent, some of the employees don't even know where to send me. The actual market has great selections in junk food, canned food, baby food, human food, dog food, and other such foods throughout the store. They do have a seafood section, but there is rarely anyone there to help you. I will rave about their sandwich person, however! I love their fresh sandwiches. Especially on Dutch crunch bread. When I was younger... like waaaay younger, my dad would take me here to get a sandwich before any big fieldtrips. Grab a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a soda. And you are set for the day! Their alcohol selection is pretty good too. I wouldn't recommend buying Jameson or Hennessy from here. Just because you will definitely get it cheaper somewhere else. But if you want a pack of beer or just one beer or maybe some Strawberitas, you can find all that here. Their wine selection is pretty decent too. What more can I say? Not much. Oh wait! I'm not a fan of places like Lucky and Safeway. They usually have a lot of unhealthy, high fat, processed food. BUT I have to say, this Lucky has a really helpful staff. I wondered the Safeway store for ten minutes, trying to locate Alphabet shaped pasta noodles, I stared at the pasta section for awhile, then the Mexican food section (which supposedly has Alphabet pasta). I gave up and headed to Lucky. Much easier experience, I stared at the same sections in Lucky and was about to leave when I approached an employee. This time they showed me exactly where the product was, and I saved a drive to a specialty pasta shop in Berkeley. I made a great dinner, chicken noodle alphabet soup that pleased my toddler and made my husband laugh. The next time I needed a special item, dry ice, I just saved time and call Lucky in Hercules. Do they have it? Yep. Cool. Another home run. Thanks Lucky. I'm quickly starting to see them as my go-to place for out of the ordinary purchases. read more

I'm not a fan of this Lucky's location but I still go here because it's conveniently close to me. The inside of the store looks dated and somewhat dirty. I remember one incident where there was a spill that wasn't cleaned up right away. The spill was just covered up with paper towels and the area wasn't even mopped! This store does have a decent selection of dairy products, canned goods, meats, and the other essentials. However, the produce selection isn't really that great. The fruits and veggies just don't look fresh. I picked up bananas from this store and I could taste the difference in the quality of the produce from other grocery stores. So, last week I purchased salad dressing and got home and noticed a use by date of 3/21. Took it back and got a refund. A few days later, on 5/22, I purchased packaged celery. Got home, noticed that it looked a bit dry and saw use by date of 5/21/21! Immediately went back to the store and told the clerk I needed to do a return and she yells out "we can't do a return, you have to do an exchange." I told her it was fresh produce and I wanted to return it and asked for the manager. She then said she was the manager. The real manager came (same person who refunded the salad dressing) and I told him that the clerk said she was the manager and he replies "she's not that kind of manager." I don't know what that meant, but she was rude and exhibited poor customer service. The manager did refund my money and offered me a new package of celery at no charge, but when I went to get another one, it had a use by date of 5/18/21!!!! I told the manager I was a loyal Lucky shopper, but with this kind of service and rude clerks, the new Safeway will get my business. That is when I don't go to Sprouts! read more

First it was Raley's, then it was Luckys, then It was Albertsons and Now It's Luckys again. This establishment has been having an identity crisis for years. But the now Lucky's is the local supermarket. They have everything you would expect an American Supermarket to have. Groceries, Deli, Cake, Bank, Redbox, Pharmacy, etc. It's a good place to get what you need in Hercules. If your looking for ethnic specialty foods your better off going to a different market. Lucky's is as white as it can get and it has some isles where you can get Asian, Hispanic or other ethnic food but its usually the generic stuff you can get anywhere which won't really help you if your cooking authentic shit. Overall it's a grocery store and it's big and has what you need. read more

Only supermarket in Hercules prices are very high. I only go here in case I need a few items but most of my grocery shopping is done at FoodMaxx in Pinole they have good quality merchandise much much lower prices. Everyone at this store is super nice and friendly with the exception of one person who usually is the "security guard" stationed at the self checkout area. Her name starts with a R and ends with a I :-) She is very rude to everyone (today I witnessed her being rudy to an elderly lady that did not know how to ring out a veggie), very short with people, slouches over the register, chews gum like a cow. it's sad that she works in the service industry where it's customer facing and her customer service and demeanor is horrible! read more

I come in on December 14, 2019 to buy a standing rib roast for our Christmas dinner which we are having on December 21st. The great meat department lady Karen suggested I wait until a day or two before the day I need it to buy it, I was worried that they would not have any, she said 'oh no' don't worried we reserve them for you so you can pick it up on the Friday before and you don't have to freeze it which would make it dry out plus they would be 1/2 price at that time, wow great idea! Karen took my name and the size I needed, all done. Small problem, the next day I found out we have two more people for dinner than I realized so I called back and she was very helpful in changing and size and keeping the price at the low per pound rate, something to do with the preset # of ribs in a package. This is my favorite grocery store in the area. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They say hello and will ask you if you need help finding anything. Once I wanted something a little different than they had it at the store, and they could not do it, but they gave me a substitute and gave me $4 off. They really bend over backwards for you at this store. The store is also big. The isles are wide enough for lots of carts, and the check out lanes never have long lines. read more

My experience at this supermarket was okay, not super, up until it was time to check out. Judith Hall was the name of our cashier. An elderly Indian man was getting rung up ahead of me. She asked him if he had a Lucky Rewards card. He smiled and said that he left it in the car. She gave him a mean nasty look and told him that she can't help him because she needs the physical card. She was rude and disrespectful throughout the entire transaction. I couldn't believe it. What a B! Then when it came to our turn, I made sure she didn't get any smiles from me because of what she did to that poor elderly man. I told her to use the coupon that came attached to my product and she gave me a disapproving look with her eyes. URGH. Then during the transaction, she softened up and smiled and made jokes. Too late, lady! You deserve NO respect from me. Judith Hall is obviously unhappy with her job and life. You can tell by her body language and awful looks. I understand that you have to ask for cigarettes and certain bottles of alcohol - but to have to ask for baby formula is ridiculous. ---Previous review below. I like this grocery store, but I miss the Raley's that once stood in its place. My thoughts on this store... I wish that this store stocked more organic and special diet foods (i.e. gluten free items). The employees that work here are very friendly and it's fun to joke with the cashiers on your way out. I recently had a baby and finally took advantage of the carry out services. The bagger that helped me to my car was really polite and returned the cart for me (so helpful!). It's easy to find things in this store, but I can't believe that they recently dedicated an entire isle to bottled water. The deli items (specifically lunch meat and cheese) could be of a higher quality. Two strange things about this store...it sometimes smells when you walk in (like the blood from packaged meat hasn't been cleaned up properly) and you have to walk up a little hill in the frozen foods isle near the ice cream (and a few of the surrounding isles) because something is going on with their freezer system and causing the floor to expand. I also don't like that they got rid of the camera/customer service department. It's strange to have the customer service desk near the check out isles. No one really mans the station...so you still have to ask for someone to help you out. With that said, this is the only grocery store in Hercules. The Safeway in Rodeo is worse and it's not really worth visiting the grocery stores in Pinole unless you go to Trader Joe's (which may or may not have all of the items on your grocery list). read more

I shopped at this particular store since I moved to the East Bay. When it went from Lucky's to Albertson's and back to Lucky's. The store is always clean and well stocked. The staff are helpful, welcoming and very friendly. Still going here to this day :) read more
