Came for a late lunch with my dogs and bad a quick bite. It was a nice day and we had the dogs so we sat outside. When the server saw the dogs, he handed me a menu for dogs. I thought that was great. Here is what we ordered: - grilled chicken (for dogs) - calamari fritti: cherry peppers, lemon aioli, marinara - chicken cotoletta burger: crispy chicken, cole slaw, lemon, fresh herbs, arugula, parmessan flakes, mayo on a toasted brioche bun - rosemary chicken skewers: saffron rice pilaf, asparagus, tomato, olives, capers, cucumber mint yogurt sauce All the food was made well, servers were friendly and the outdoor seating area was clean. Loved the outdoor seating. Very nice ambiance. We enjoyed the menu options and opted to try a bunch of appetizers. Our favorite was the meatballs! So delicious! We also had the hummus flight which was great and the calamari. Our kids had the chicken wings which were excellent. Our toddler opted for chicken tenders and fries. Which is really a chicken cutlet served over fries - believe it or not, we all loved it lol! Our server was great. The place is obviously very well managed. Everyone is hustling like a well oiled machine. The barking dogs on the patio were kind of annoying. Wow! Was I the "LUCKY" one to finally try Lucky Lou's! I've been to Old Wethersfield village a ton of times, but never got the chance to visit this beautiful restaurant that I've driven and walked by. This pub-style restaurant has a huge outdoor space that seats over 100 people. But I wanted to see the charm from 1787 inside. The manager welcomed each guest and seated us. We sat in a room with only 3 tables and an old fireplace so it was super cozy. I started off with the Bacio Limoncello, a lemon vodka drink. It was a very refreshing drink especially on a hot summer day. We couldn't decide on appetizers so we basically tried them all. Each one was made perfectly and were all delicious. We tried the Moms Meatballs made with beef, pork, and veal, the calamari fritti with cherry peppers, the dirty jumbo wings which were so crispy, and the focaccia garlic bread topped with the 5 cheese fondue. For our entrees we all went with chicken! The Famous Chicken Parmesan, the chicken cutlet Milanese, and the rosemary chicken gyro. All completely different flavors and all phenomenal. We stopped here for a late lunch after coming from the airport. There were only guests seated on their patio. The building seems to be very historic. We didn't have any sense of what to expect. I had their chicken souvlaki with amazing sweet potato fries. It was extraordinary. The chicken was tender , moist and perfectly cooked. It was on a homemade pita bread. I was given my choice of seating and was promptly helped by a wonderful server. Dining alone can feel intimidating but the staff went out of their way to welcome me. The menu had several items that sounded good but I choice the Greek salad with grilled rosemary chicken. The salad was a generous portion of lettuce, olives, tomatoes, feta and artichoke hearts. The chicken was good and flavorful. I just had the worst lunch possible and I'm an easy person to please. The only way anyone can give this place more than 1 star is if they've been drinking too much. The food wasn't good nor fresh. Even the lime was old. How you can mess up a steak taco is beyond me? They know how to do it. Use over done tough steak with gristle, hard touch shell which is supposed to be soft, leave off the guacamole that was supposed to come on it, and cover it with an overpowering lime sauce the serve it on a the plate to make it appear big. Not quite sure what to make of lucky Lou's. The ambiance for their patio is really nice but on a 90+ degree day we opted to sit inside. On a Sunday afternoon it was quite busy and we were lucky to be seated right away. Unfortunately the AC in this restaurant is near nonexistent. Our baby had to have her personal fan going the entire meal in order to keep cool. I was very surprised by this lack of amenity for such a well esteemed restaurant. Food was good but the portions are kind of hilarious how small they are. We got their burrito and it was the smallest I've ever seen with a decent price tag. Service was extremely slow and had to grab our own utensils and napkins. I think where we were seated is kind of a forgetful area for servers- only holds two parties near the bathroom so it's not the main dining area I guess. Not sure if I'd return. Spent the evening in Old Wethersfield, The Cove and the Lucky Lou's. What a great place, the house has such character! They kept the look of the house 1900s era. They have an large lighted fenced patio with plentiful tables where pups are allowed. We did have to wait for about 20-25 min for an outdoor seat (same line for both). Once seat we were met with a very friendly waiter who was prompt to get us beverages. Prior to us getting to the table they had set it was silverware, menus and plastic cups of water and water for the pup. We quickly ordered an app, starving! Within 5-6 min those meatballs were at our table! The meatballs are a tri-blend of meat and parm cheese with sauce shaved parm and a drizzle of pesto. The meatballs were tender and very tasty, definitely an app to get. For dinner we got a Cuban, which was a plentiful sandwich with mustard, sliced pork and ham. The fries came in a little metal tin cup which help keep them warm while we ate outside. The fries were crispy and very tasty. The chicken parm was a extra large size thin piece of chicken cutlet , perfectly fried with the same delicious sauce as the meatballs and pesto. It's also served with a good 8oz of pasta. Lastly, the Aussie fish and chip was two large pieces of fish fried lightly in a tasty batter. I'm usually hesitant to get this because sometimes it's oily. Well this was not the least bit oily, very crispy, light and flaky. I wasn't feeling the fries so I changed to a side garden salad, very fresh. This is my first time in the area, here for training. I went into this establishment during lunch. Instead of being greeted, the first thing an employee (or manager--since he had on a different uniform than the rest) said to me was "Do you want to finish that conversation before you say anything to me?" He then walked away and called me a bitch along with some other words to another employee. I have never walked into a restaurant and felt so disrespected to the point where I couldn't even stay to try the food. I'm writing this review for management to be mindful of what they say and their interactions with guests. The place is very small and when there aren't any customers (like today) we can hear everything... even the whispers. People like myself look for hospitality, not just food. I am someone who appreciates a good ambiance and will surely tip for good service. It's a shame the establishment missed out on a good paying customer due to one man's lack of respect. read more

My experience with this place was mixed. What i liked: the wait staff was polite and the outdoor seating was lovely; peaceful ambiance with a small town feel. We ordered the octopus appetizer; the salt and citrus played well with the perfectly charred octopus. However, this is where things get mixed. We ordered the fish and chips; the fish was perfectly cooked and crispy and flaky. However, the fries were extremely underseasoned and underwhelming. In addition to that, i got a salad; the ricotta was both creamy and firm at the same time and the greens were dressed properly. That being said, my salad was $14 and i wanted to get the shrimp, which was another $12 on top. Imagine my surprise when they gave 3 shrimps. While grilled well, the size and quantity of the shrimp did not reflect $4 per shrimp. Overall, my experience was mixed. The atmosphere was calming and reminiscent of a cool summer. However, in this day and age, i cannot avoid speaking about the value to price ratio, and how half of a dish hits a home run while the other half falls flat. The Greek-Australian native graduated from Peter Kump Culinary in Manhattan (now known as the 'Institute of Culinary Education') and has been running restaurants since he was 19-years-old. The location chosen to house the restaurant was the historic Deming-Standish House (circa 1787) on Main Street in Old Wethersfield. The house is leased through the town via an agreement with the Wethersfield Historical Society. Kyriakos describes the menu at Lucky Lou's as American food with an Italian flair. My family and I recently visited Lucky Lou's for lunch. We love visiting Old Wethersfield and decided to stop at the restaurant while checking out the annual "Bicycles on Main" display. We were seated on their outdoor patio. We also took a peak inside the house and loved the interior design. For drinks, my wife ordered the "Watermelon Margarita" (Lunazul tequila, watermelon purée, housemade sour mix) and I ordered the "Bacio Al Limone" (lemon vodka, limoncello, lemon, simple syrup, fresh mint). Both cocktails were refreshing and delicious! Lucky Lou's is SO disappointing, we couldn't wait to leave. This was our first time here, so we decided to keep our orders simple. My wife ordered fried shrimp with french fries, I ordered a Cuban sandwich with french fries. So I figured, how can you screw that up, right? Our meals came out and looked very unappetizing. The fried shrimp and french fries were so incredibly salty to the point where my wife could not even eat it. The Cuban sandwich was made with BBQ pulled pork and relish. It just tasted gross. They had barbecued pulled pork on the menu, so I guess they just used that pork to make the Cuban sandwich as well. A word advice to the chef, if you're going to feature a Cuban sandwich on the menu, try to make it right. I may not be a professional chef, but I know a thing or two about Cuban cuisine. Cuban sandwiches are not made with barbecue pulled pork! It's made with a spiced pork roast and a sour pickle, NOT barbecue sauce and relish. As if the food wasn't bad enough, I went into the bathroom and what I saw hung over the toilet was a large poster of Catwoman in her standard leather outfit, pulling down her lower lip and written on the lower lip was the word: LUST (see attached picture). Lucky Lou's is a staple in downtown "Old WETHERSFIELD." Set in a converted historic building, the only thing about this place that isn't great is the parking. That said, there is plenty of free parking on the street. I have never had a bad meal at Luckly Lou's. This time around we came to celebrate my sister's birthday. We were seated quickly at an outdoors table. If you come in good weather, you have to sit outdoors. It's very pleasant out there with comfortable seating, umbrellas, and warm breeze. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. Our drinks and meals came out in an acceptable amount of time. I had their Greek Salad with grilled salmon. It was delicious! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the dressing in the salad was oh so good. We ended our meal with cappuccinos and crème brûlée, both perfectly done. (Last visited 9/11/2020.) It's a gorgeous late summer's day during a pandemic and we're looking for outdoor seating so that we feel safe. This place has a very big outdoor seating section so we're here to check it out! Atmosphere/Appearance: Based right in "downtown" Wethersfield is this neighborhood gem. There is a private parking lot around the back of the restaurant, but if it's full there is plenty of street parking available, but be mindful of the times and meter rules. It's such a cute and well, home-y (I get homely and homey mixed up, but whichever word that means "feels like home") place. It just looks like a big house and when you're walking through it you get the same feeling. Service: Chloe took excellent care of us. She was quick, enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and made sure we got all of our happy hour orders in before the clock ran out. Lol. Food: Wings are on the happy hour menu so that's my go-to! They offer 4 flavors (Honey D's BBQ, buffalo, teriyaki and jerk pineapple sauce) so we tried all 4. My favorite were the jerk pineapple. It was just different. It took me back to the Caribbean with a hint of spice and of course, that unique jerk flavor. My least favorite were teriyaki, but I figured they would because I'm just not a big fan of that type of sauce. The pitcher of their house sangria was delicious though and plenty strong! Value: Pretty good in my opinion! A pitcher of sangria was $24.00 and if my memory serves me correctly, we got about 5-6 glasses out of it. Each order of wings was $6.00 and you get 6 wings per order. That averages to be about $1.00 a wing. Solid deal. You won't break your bank here, but you do pay for the quality of the food for sure. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was much more than I expected! It was so so good! My partner had the fish and chips and jad no complaints. The only thing I had an issue with was my server, was very slow. I asked for the check two times and each time was asked if we were all set? Back at Lucky Lou's for the first time in years! What a great local spot in Old Wethersfield. And one of the most dog friendly patios you will find!! Be warned, the prices aren't cheap and the service isn't the fastest, but if you're looking for a great time with friends and ready to split a few pitchers of sangria, you won't even notice! The drinks are DEFINITELY the star here. Good prices and great variety. We got the pitcher of the white sangria and wow, it was HUGE. For $35 we got about 10 glasses which is incredible. We debated getting a second! We started with the hot crab dip that was paired with warm pita bread. That was my favorite of the night! I ordered the guacamole burger which came highly recommended and I was a bit disappointed. It was overcooked to my liking and all I tasted was the guac. Which I guess was the point? The fries were great though! My husband loved his lobster roll burger, but it was expensive. It was a beautiful day and I was in the area. I walk in to get a seat at the Bar, but I'm told by one bartender I the wait list for sitting at the bar is outside, ok that's weird but ok I'll go outside and wait in line. I go outside and wait for about 10 minutes. After waiting I choose to sit outside at a high table because it was such a beautiful evening. After I'm seated no one greets me for at least 15 minutes. Server's walk by me and say nothing. So finally I get some water. My server was Angelo who was a nice guy. I then order a IPA they had on tap, however, the beer was under carbonated and I know this because I asked the bartender did they just replace the keg earlier and she replied they did. I told them they should adjust the CO2 flow because they're wasting beer. I then proceed to order the Soup of the day which was Cod Chowder and the Prime NY Strip. I get the Chowder and it looks good until I take the first bite and It tasted like I was eating stew instead of Chowder. It had chunks of past due cod that was rough and not tasty at all. I went in scoop after scoop expecting something different, it was very disappointing. I then get my NY Strip after some time and it's cooked to perfection. As I cut the first bit you can smell the char from the grill, I can't wait to try it. I take the first bite and it felt like I was just eating a piece of meat with. The flavor was very muted for a Prime NY Strip. The asparagus and mashed potatoes were ok but the meal and experience was definitely not worth the cost I paid. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner. We shared the super chili nachos, which were very good, and started off with drinks. I had the pacific margarita and he had the mango mai tai, which we both really liked. The size of the nachos filled us up so we waited a bit before ordering our entrees. I ended up getting the Greek gyro plate with sweet potato fries and he got the fish and chips. Both of us were happy with our meals. I took one star off for our seating. We were asked our seating preference which we did get, but we ended up being right next to a bigger group upstairs. UNLUCKY LOU'S So...we recently decided to create a fun fall memory by walking in downtown Wethersfield. We were feeling the joy of the crisp fall day and decided to pop into Lucky Lou's for a bite of lunch. We were 3 adults with a little one each. Admittedly, they were not always using their inside voices however after we had already ordered we were told we could not stay at the table where we had been seated. Our choices were to scale the steep staircase with the littles (our strollers of course would be taken from us) or move outside in 40 something degree weather. It was very awkward and all we wanted to do was pay for our sodas which had already been served and leave as quickly as possible. Instead we were forced to pay for the entire meal, apps included, because the staff waited until we placed our order to give us this ultimatum. The manager that day just kept saying that while he didn't mind the kids, his clientele is basically, quote "old people" who don't want to be bothered with children. Went to dinner with friends at Lucky Lou's. We were seated quickly outside. The outside space is great. Large, set back from the road and feels on purpose instead of a repurposed parking area. Our server- John, came right over and took our drink orders. He was friendly and personable. They have a couple local draft beers and a full bar. For food I had the fish sandwich with sweet potato fries. It sounds like I am in a rut, but I never eat fish at home and like a nice fish sandwich. This sandwich had to be 5 inches tall two amazing sized pieces of fish with lettuce and sauce on a soft brioche bun. Hard to eat but delicious. Fish was well cooked. Coating was not greasy with the right amount of salt and crunch. The sweet potato fries were also really good. Pricing felt a little high for what you get, but I'm not sure I know what good is supposed to cost. Four of us, drinks, sandwiches. No apps, no dessert- $152.
