I'd rate the Season Tap Room four and a half stars. We hung out in the tap room. The space is located in a hotel, so the amenities benefited by the grounds. There's a billiards table connected to the tap room. Corn hole just outside. Board games too. The tap room has a couple TVs and a smart TV located by the billiards table, so plenty of entertainment. Staff was attentive and accommodating. They kindly tuned into an event for me on one of the TVs even though many locals were interested in another event which was on the other TV. Solid selection of whiskeys and beers. There were about eight draft with a couple macros but a bigger focus on local craft beers. I had a strong English ale from Shed Brewery which was superb. My wife order a grilled cheese and they had it ready quickly. Judging by how sucky she ate it, I suspect it was quite good. I finished up the fries; they were solid. Restrooms are shared with the hotel. They're gendered and handicap accessible. read more

My family and I were staying at the hotel so decided to check out the restaurant for lunch. Eli was our server and he was so nice and courteous. His service was impeccable. I had a spicy margarita for the first time which was really good. The Cesar salad was DELICIOUS! That may have been my favorite dish lol. I also had the seasons burger which was so moist and juicy. We had a great view of the outdoors with our lunch so that was a plus. The only issue was there was a fly in my original margarita but they quickly replaced it. This is the restaurant/bar located in Avon Old Farms Hotel. While staying in the hotel, every time I walked by the restaurant it seemed pretty busy. I ordered takeout with some friends which we brought out to the pool. The bacon cheeseburger was flame grilled with two big pieces of bacon, along with sweet potato fries. I got the turkey burger, which had good flavor, but could have used a bit more of the aioli on the bun. The onion rings were thick and crispy. The actual restaurant itself has more fine dining options such as prime rib and what appeared to be a Sunday brunch with things like eggs Benedict, although I was not able to try that out. The prices are on the higher side, given this is a boutique bed-and-breakfast in rural Connecticut. That being said, in a small town without many dining options, this might be your best bet for dinner some night. read more

So we missed breakfast it's only from 7 AM to 9 AM on a Sunday. They said they moved the breakfast to the front lobby went through the front lobby of the Avon old farmhouse hotel there is just still bagels and cereal and ice cold coffee. So much for the pretest if you go in there with the Sunday you're gonna end up paying 50 bucks for the brunch which they start at 10 o'clock with a kick everybody out at nine so you don't get your free breakfast. The food is good at least definitely overprice for Sunday brunch and you only got three tables that actually came to tables a couples in one table of a foursome. I don't think it's worth doing a Sunday brunches. read more

Delicious brunch! We got married at Avon Old Farms and try to at least go back once a year for Sunday brunch. The selection of food is amazing. They have everything from eggs and toast to prime rib and pesto pasta. You get unlimited coffee and mimosas and they always have a live pianist playing. I have had dine here before ... but for Thanksgiving Dinner ...was extremely disappointed.... where to start... first I guess I would start with making my reservation ... called left a message .... never received a call back ... called back and at first told they booked this was three to four weeks before thanksgiving, then they corrected themselves and booked my reservation.... second we had to wait about a half hour to be sat when we arrive for our 3:00 reservation...yes ... there is more ... food ...not up to the quality I have had in the past... turkey extremely salty.. to the point you should not eat it... by husband who loves turkey was so upset...and only Mac and cheese at the children's section.... the family who sat next to us left within 45 minutes seem to be upset....yes more....asked for the bill ...like 15 minutes pasted....Eli who had sat us ..never came back ....so asked another server for the check....that took some time too ... that was not the worst of it ... we got double bill ... by husband who but it on this charge ... and I who set the reservation on charge card .... went the next day to correct the the billing.... Was told it could take days to correct even though I showed the two charges....yes they did end up correcting it that day...but after I left, food service is a customer based business ... this is not how you deal with this type of experience .... Yes they heard me ... but not really... after a $250 to $300 it does not look like they want my return business ... and I would think that was important to them.... read more

Restaurant and bar attached to the AOF Inn They serve 3 meals a day, but I have only ever been here for their Sunday brunch buffet. Although it is a little pricey, this brunch buffet is my favorite in Hartford county. The atmosphere is somewhat upscale (with a gorgeous dining room and a piano player), and the food is delicious. They have a bunch of options including an omelet bar, a roast beef carving section, and a bunch of other hot and cold options. Although there are a ton of options, the best thing here is unquestionably their personal sized waffles with their strawberries, homemade whipped cream, and maple syrup. My husband and I came here to use our free brunch which was included in our wedding package. This was probably the best brunch I ever had! Unlimited mimosas, waffles and prime rib! I was in my element indulging in just about everything. The cheesecake was also amazing as well! What even made the experience better was the friendly and attentive staff. I wasn't aware we had to make a reservation for brunch but the staff member up front still managed to find us a table after only a few minutes of waiting (we got lucky!!). Additionally I had my wedding catered from this restaurant and can say the prime rib, stuffed shrimp and penne alla vodka are to die for and are a must if you plan on having your wedding at Avon old farms hotel! We had a very nice lunch experience here on Saturday. The dining room was fairly empty, but what a gorgeous dining room it was! It has a circular exterior wall with over a dozen windows overlooking a pretty landscape. It really is quite scenic. Seasons is the house restaurant for the Avon Old Farms Hotel. They offer quite a few menus - breakfast, a Tap Room, Happy Hour, Main Dining Room, a Sunset Menu, plus drinks, desserts, and special event menus. We ordered from the Main Dining Room menu. It includes French Onion Soup and four salads in a half or full size, nine great looking small plates ($7 to $14), and nine entrees in the $20 - $40 range. Our lunch was a half order of artisan salad ($7) with grilled chicken ($4), and a turkey club served with fries for $11. My salad was very very good. It was described as "Fresh cut artisan greens, baby heirloom tomato, English cucumber, feta cheese, sweet pickled onion, toasted almond, dried cranberry, blood orange champagne vinaigrette". The veggies were fresh and crisp and perfect, as were the almonds, cranberries and terrific dressing. The very decent serving of grilled chicken was perfectly cooked! It was moist, tender, juicy and was quite a good value for $4. The half portion of salad was just right for lunch. The turkey club was served with a huge portion of outstanding french fries! They were big meaty slabs, crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. They were seriously some of the best fries I have had in a long time. Bottom line ? I was wavering between 3 and 4 stars for this place and settled on 3 because although the food was really good and the venue is gorgeous, I was very uncomfortable upon arrival. I'll explain: My husband and I wanted to take our moms out for breakfast to celebrate Mother's Day. We went the day before (5/13/17) and made reservations one week in advance for 9:30 am. We arrived at the restaurant and were greeted by no one. We stood at the door near a large group of people enjoying their breakfast. So not only were we not greeted, but we were hovering over other people that were trying to enjoy their meal. I made eye contact with two servers and 5 minutes passed and we were STILL not greeted. I was frustrated because it's now 9:40 and this place is supposed to be upscale and you'd expect promptness. I walked to the back of the restaurant to let a server know we were there. They said it'd be 10 minutes. I said we had a reservation. They said "I know but it will be 10 minutes." So I walk back to the front and we wait 15 minutes. So now I'm just extremely frustrated and embarrassed because we made reservations and I really have to go back and ask what's going on! I approached our to-be server and she explained to me how a lot of large parties showed up with no reservations and it was a crazy morning and they were very busy. Ok, I get it! I used to be a server myself so I know things can get hectic. However, WE HAD A RESERVATION...and I feel as if the point of a reservation is to avoid being in the exact situation we were in. The server was very passive aggressive to me but I didn't want to get angry because I really did understand she was genuinely stressed. I explained to her I was upset that we made a reservation and this was a Mother's Day breakfast and I was embarrassed that my party had to wait so long and feel uncomfortable. We waited a few more minutes and ended up walking in and seating ourselves after the server told us we could come in any time (which was also uncomfortable because this meant we were not greeted the entire time). Once we were seated, our server completely changed her demeanor and she was so sweet and apologetic. My mother-in-law, husband, and mom were completely happy and I was sitting there like wow this girl is good (no seriously, I was impressed I am not being sarcastic). She greeted our moms and said happy Mother's Day, took their orders first, brought coffee over immediately. We ordered our food and it came relatively quickly and everything was delicious. Really, it was so good and worth the slightly elevated prices. I think the place needs to pay more attention to people coming in and take reservations more seriously (especially since a family with no reservation was seated the same time as we were). Perhaps more than 2 people working would help. I really do feel grateful that the server quickly shifted her mood as to not make breakfast uncomfortable. I do feel my annoyance was justified but I do understand her annoyance as well. To the stressed server: thank you! My mom and mother-in-law had a great breakfast. I apologize for adding to your stress but I appreciate your maturity. To the restaurant: get your stuff together! To the kitchen: keep it up! It's actually the Season's Restaurant and PUB...so while I can't vouch for the restaurant in terms of food, I most certainly can regarding beverages...good stuff!! Go for happy hour in the late afternoon around 5ish...they set out a spread of free appetizers including potato skins and eggrolls! Season's is connected to the hotel so if you just so happen to be staying in the main building, it's a hop, skip and a jump to the bar...so handy. Also, the room service menu for the hotel is pretty much the same as if you were eating at Season's...so you know you're getting good grub while staying there... Seasons can be hit or miss . . . Our last visit was more miss. We stopped in with friends Thursday night and sadly it was a ghost town. Not a good sign for a place that gets some decent reviews. We started with Artichokes seasoned with shaved fennel, evoo, chili flakes, tomatoes, white wine, garlic, shallots, topped with microgreens and crumbled goat cheese. I'm not a artichoke fan but these were pretty good and a hit with the others in our party. To that we added an order of a special that night of scollops with bacon. These were great. My wife and I had the Strawberry Arugula salad which was excellent. A nice mix of greens and fresh fruit in a very healthy portion size. No issues here and a favorite for both of us. Our entrees consisted of Bianca Seafood Linguini which has clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, leeks, red pepper flake over linguini in a white sauce. Safe to say it was awesome with a clean plate to show for it. The rest of us had the Grass Fed Veal Cipollini which is grilled veal chop, cremini mushrooms, cipollini onions, port wine demi-glaze. All of us came to the same conclusion on this dish . . . It was good, but a bit fatty and too much bone and not enough meat. Total meat content after cutting out the bone and fat was maybe 7oz. The sides of risotto and vegetables were uninspiring. For dessert we shared a very nice Key Lime Tower consisting of layered sponge cake, lime mousse, sweet cream cheese, and key west lime glaze with white chocolate curl. At the price point that Seasons is at it is hard to give more than a 3 on this visit. read more

Staying in the Seasons's home hotel, the Avon Old Farms, my family and I decided to try the attached restaurant for both dinner and breakfast instead of braving the frigid outside temperatures. Both instances were disappointing, once for the food and twice for the service. First off, the restaurant is essentially deserted. There has been a winter storm limiting travel options as of late, it's off-season, and Avon isn't a particularly huge travel location. There should be, therefore, no reason for poor service due to overwhelmed staff. Which is why it's bewildering to understand why it took our dinner orders a full hour to come out with only 4 occupied tables in the restaurant, one already with food, on there before us, and the other arriving after us. The other food-less table was drinking wine, which must have softened the blow as they waited at LEAST 45 minutes for their orders. Being a cold evening, I got the cioppino, which, in keeping with the weather, was pretty chilly itself. The tomato sauce had a distinctly canned flavor, the squid was rubbery, the shrimp chewy, the mussels bland. It just wasn't very good...especially not for the $26 they were charging for it. Though minor, it also came with just a slice of bread instead of the toasted garlic bread it claimed to. My mother's crispy duck breast, incidentally, also came with cheesy cauliflower instead of the potatoes it advertised. My father's French onion soup was mostly bread and on and on. And for that we waited an hour... Stinging from dinner's letdown but still gullible, we went down for breakfast. I have no complaints about the food; my eggs were cooked perfectly and it came out in a reasonable 20 minutes. The server, however, though very nice and friendly, was somehow overwhelmed. She apologized for the wait in taking our order as (she explained) she was all alone and trying to keep up...there were THREE TABLES! Again, water seemed to be an issue, and I drank both my own and my Dad's before catching the attention of the waitress as we were ready for the check. The ambiance is nice, the food is whatever, the service is underwhelming, and for that the prices are ridiculous. Charge 25% less and you get a solid 3-stars, but the value for money is just not there for what they're asking. read more

My wife and I have been on a natural/organic food kick post viewing "Food Inc." the movie....so when we noticed in the recent Hartford magazine that there was a Farm to Table restaurant at the Avon Old Farms Hotel we were excited to go and it just so happened that a colleague of mine was coming to town, I suggested that she stay at the hotel and we'll meet her there for dinner. As my wife and I with our two little girls are walking into the restaurant chef Carl Rynecki who was featured in the magazine greeted us. We spent a few minutes chatting and then he sent a nice cheese plate as a complement to our table as we were seated. He couldn't have been more pleasant and has created a fantastic secret that needs to get out! Where do I begin on the food...from our cheese plate to the warm bread, to our little one's homemade cheeseburger sliders to my lobster ravioli and onto my wife's Meyer lemon with fresh berries dessert the food was outstanding. The wine list is so un-Avon like reasonable and the service was top notch including keeping our 3 1/2 year and 1 year old happy with a few fresh fruit plates. Carl mentioned that they have started to renovate the restaurant and have only reinvented their concept since the end of last year when he moved back to Connecticut and started working there. If you live in Avon, are visiting Avon or are even close to Avon and you want a 5 star meal without paying over the top prices, you have to visit FERME at the Avon Old Farms Hotel.....If you see a family with two little girls then you'll know it's us cause we will definitely be back soon! read more

Some of the group could not finish such large portions. Make sure you specify or you might end up with too much. I had the Autumn salad which was so yummy that I ate it all! Pomegranates, sweetened pecans, arugula and a ginger vinaigrette all scream Fall (or Autumn!). Short ribs were tender and beefy. Finished off the meal with double chocolate cake. After a long day of traveling across the country i just wanted a good meal and boy was i pleasantly surprised. I found an item on our room service menu in my room that i really wanted. We went to the restaurant to sit and have dinner. When I ask the Josh the bar tender he said he would check and see if they could do it. When he came back I was told that they did not have the puff pastry that went on top. I said no problem. 2 min later Josh came back and said that Chef JJ is going to make me it fresh. I could not believe they were going to do this 45 min before closing. When my meal came out it was not only beautiful but Hot, creamy and delicious. We sat in the "Pub", but you can order off both menus. We got 1/2 of the peach beet salad and 1/2 of the strawberry avocado salad to start, they were so good! Recommend getting a salad :) The French onion soup was delicious as well. We shared the buttermilk fried oysters, also good but nothing special. The pistachio crusted scallops were amazing and cooked perfectly. I would return just for the scallops...... Bread and butter was brought to us at the bar and was delicious. The bar also had bowls of truffle popcorn, I could eat that daily. Such a great experience with this hotel and restaurant. Prefect way to end our trip. read more

We had 9:30am reservations, we got there at 9:40, there was no one in front to greet us to sit us. After being ignored we walked into dining room to look for staff, we were rudely told by female waitress infront of dining room full of people to go back and wait to be seated. I let her know we had reservations and eventually a table was put together for us by male waiter with long hair who was pleasant. We then sat there for about 15 minutes with two small children and no one came over to table, not even to greet us, so we left. We will NEVER be back. On the way out we were given a half hearted apology and there being 4 weddings at the hotel as an excuse. I highly doubt those weddings were booked last minute so they should have planned their restaurant staff accordingly to accommodate the higher volume. read more

Falsely advertises Happy Hour from 4-7pm On July 6, 2018, a girl friend and I arrived at Season's Restaurant at Avon Old Farms Hotel at 6:32pm. The bar area was full, so we were seated on the deck, and handed regular menus by our waitress. When we asked for Happy Hour menus, we were told Happy Hour ended at 6:30pm. Rather than cause a scene and exit the restaurant, we stayed. We each had a glass of house wine ($11). She had a salad, and I had fish tacos. The total bill for our "Happy Hour" dining was $55.30. On-line Happy Hour (4-7pm) lists $4.00 wine and $5.00 appetizers. Had we been able to order from the Happy Hour menu, our bill most likely would have been around $25.00. I emailed the hotel about our experience and received no response. I will not go back even though the wine and food were good, and sitting on the deck was delightful. read more

Came for breakfast with my son so we could avoid the tons of grabby kids at the free continental at hotel. First, we had to wait to be seated for a few minutes which was odd as there was hardly anyone there. Finally seated and I turned to a couple of ladies who were eating super thin pancakes and inquired about them. They were dissatisfied. Yup, we all agreed that pancakes should be fluffy. Finally a waiter came over and we placed our orders while avoiding the pancakes: Belgian waffle with strawberries and cream for him and poached eggs over corned beef hash for me. While waiting, my son pointed out what may have been mold in the syrup and I guessed it may have been just dried sugar. A family at another table turned towards us and told us to check our syrup. They showed us theirs and it certainly looked like mold. When a waiter came back, that family angrily stood up and exited the restaurant - their food hardly touched. I don't know what the waiter said to them. When we got our food, the waffle was soggy, the eggs were cold, the home fries not very tasty and the corned beef was salty and inedible. When a waiter walked by, I asked for more coffee and he nodded. For the next five minutes, he did absolutely nothing in another room so I got up and poured my own coffee. So this is a 4 star restaurant? They must be teeny tiny stars. read more

Context: Easter Sunday Brunch. We decided to try Seasons Restaurant for our Easter Brunch when our favorite location closed its doors. Seasons has a good reputation locally, so we thought it was worth a try. Granted, a brunch buffet on one of the busiest restaurant days of the year is not exactly a fair test. But we had other prior Easter brunch experiences at other regional venues with which to compare. I'll cut to the chase: While there was an excellent assortment of buffet foods, including seafood, meats, salads, desserts, an omelet station, and a carving station, much of the food was bland, and in some cases downright tasteless. Many of the hot dishes were tepid at best. Service was pleasant but on the slow side. (To be fair, our reservation was for 3 pm and I could tell that our server was just plain wiped out.) I sampled the seafood stuffed sole (overly fishy taste), beef tips with linguini & Gorgonzola cheese (tasty but cold), a lobster brioche bread pudding (very good but also tepid), crawfish etoufee with dirty rice (very good but tepid, and could have been a little spicier), salmon (dry) and blueberry blintzes (very good and just the right temp). The tiramisu desert was fine, but the carrot cake was dry. One of my daughters had some of the macaroni salad, which she described as being basically mayonnaise with pasta in it, but surprisingly my wife, a normally picky eater, liked it! My mother-in-law sampled several dishes, and the highlight for her was the freshly made Belgian waffle - not exactly a resounding endorsement of the rest of the menu. I am staying at the hotel, and went down to have breakfast. I will never know how the food is, because after waiting 10-15 min to even spot someone working at the restaurant, the waitress rushed by, hastily told me to sit down anywhere and did not get back to me for another 5-10 minutes at which point she said "sorry but I may not get to you in the next 10 min or so." I went with 5 other family members for brunch and the service was terrible. We had to flag someone down for anything we wanted while other tables had a waitress fawning all over them. The food was lackluster except the omelet station. read more
