    Fish tacos!
    Ashante M.

This was my first time here and I've already recommended it to a bunch of my girl friends! Literally, this is the place you want to be for a hip hop brunch. I loved the DJ! The music was a bit loud for our first half but there was a baby shower taking place and the rest of my crew loved it. The establishment itself is super cozy. I love the bar tables and chairs. Lex was our waitress and she was simply amazing! She was so attentive and super accommodating when we asked for group pictures. I honestly didn't have much expectation for the food but I was far from disappointed! I had the fish tacos and although I do like to try new things, I'll definitely be back and get those again, specifically! You can never go wrong with bottomless mimosas and our glasses stayed full here! Lex, suggested a French Martini for me and it'll be added to my list as go to cocktails! The owner Matt should be highlighted for such an awesome spot and make sure we were taken care of during our first time!

Best wings HANDS DOWN. I came for Sunday brunch and was delighted they have wings which I was not expecting. Not only do they have wings they do them right. They are baked first then fried. ...delicious. Crispy on the outside juicy on the inside. Their brunch menu seemed ok. Seems like it's thrown together just to host a brunch. I asked for a monte cristo but they did not have ham. They did offer to sub a meat however I just asked for egg whites and cheese. There was a DJ that played very good music for a soulful Sunday. It's a great place to watch the game and hang out. Would love to try their dinner menu.

In these times, social media is one of the best ways to advertise. Due to the location, I would have never known about this restaurant without it. When first arriving (for happy hour) , it looked tight & the extremely small parking lot didn't help. I chose to park in it but right at the entrance, because the angle & the amount of spots, it was possible I would get blocked in if the foot traffic picked up. At 5p, the place was dead. Only myself & 2 other gentleman were dining. Upon entering, the place is spacious, with open dining area, a semi private space in the front, & then the bar has its own section with bar & table seating. At sat myself at a bar table to wait for my friend to arrive. The friendly bartender promptly came over to take a drink order & had no issues when I asked to sub 1 liquor for another in one of their listed drinks. As I waited, the music playing was from late 90's to 00's & the volume was at a comfortable volume where I heard it clearly & was able to also hear conversations. Jumping forward, my friend & I used the QR code to review the happy hour menu & made our choices. The 2 fish tacos were a hefty size & contained fried fish, very filling. The chili nachos were so tasty. The chips were thicker than what'd you receive at a Mexican restaurant but not so thick where your jaw is getting a workout. They're definitely made for scooping & holding the toppings. The sauces made these nachos for me & the jalapeños weren't spicy at all, which I enjoyed. The chili itself was basic but still delicious. I found myself scraping for it at the bottom of the basket. Even though, there was only 1 layer of the toppings, when you grabbed the chips, some of it would drop to the bottom so the others did get covered. The serving dish does matter. That wouldn't happen on a flat plate. On to the sausage & peppers flatbread...acceptable. Nothing to exciting here. The flatbread was more like the frozen pizza dough. However, it didn't taste like frozen food. I will say, it could have been a bit more saucy. The sausage were flat discs & the peppers were chopped into squares. There was 1 sausage & 1 pepper on each slice. My friend ordered the sprouts. The amount received in the deep bowl was a nice surprise. They are also served whole, not halves. According to my friend, whole alters the taste, but she liked it. There's also some sauce dripped on them, possibly teriyaki. While the tacos came out hot, everything else was just warm. Also, the drinks were weak, to the point that I didn't want to buy anything else & switched to water. We ordered the Skylar, subbing tequila for vodka. It tasted like 100% juice. Over time, more patrons came in, & my friend ended up getting blocked in. Thanks to the music, atmosphere & the decent food, I'm curious to see how this restaurant is during the weekend, so I'll be back.

The servers here have such a bad attitude. They are slow and they aren't knowledgeable of the menu. I brought in a party of 20 people for the super bowl. Within 2 hours we were only checked in after we asked another server for help. We asked her do they have any signature drinks her response was " I don't know. I'm not a bartender." At this point i was ready to go. I will not be returning.

My friends always brunch here and they invited me to join them. On Sundays, they have a brunch like how the big cities do with bottomless mimosas & a DJ. So it's sort of like a party and this is one of the only places in Hartford that offers this. The two times I've been here I got the shrimp Benedict and chose bottomless. They have so many flavors which was really good. The food was good and the atmosphere is nice. Their waitresses are so cute and kind to customers and just sweet overall. I have to give them credit bc it gets so loud in there and they aren't rude to customers. The only downside is yes there's a dj and yes it's a "scene" but the DJ's volume can gradually increase through the day. It's so loud at like 11:30am that you can barely hear your friends talk. I lost my voice yesterday just trying to have a normal convo. Also, it's always cold in there. Not sure what's that about. Overall, I like it here. Let's just turn up the heat and get new menus (they used a sharpie to cross off the items they no longer have).

Luckily I was able to find parking and there was a line waiting to go into Ken's corner. I didn't mind the wait since I really wanted to eat here. I'm glad I did, it was moving, and they got people in and out of the restaurant . The workers are pleasant and very helpful when deciding what to order off the menu. As I mention it was my first time there, we ordered the coconut French toast and shared the surf & turf egg Benedict. Everything was worth the wait and tasted amazing. I'm already planning my next visit to try something else on the menu. Food came out presentable and hot. Glad I came here because it's prob one of the best breakfast spots in the area.

Kens is a small breakfast place in glastonbury, and there always seems to be a line out the door (for a good reason). Once inside tho, the waitresses and busboys are always super friendly. I love that the waitresses always stop by for a quick chat when they see you. The eggs benedict is super amazing here. Actually everything is but thats my fav. French toast super amazing too, especially when they have the egg nog French toast on special. They always have two flavored coffee options which i love. And the home fries are always well seasoned and crispy on the outside and oft in the middle. The only downside really to kens is the wait which sometimes goes out the door. They don't take reservations and they don't have a sign in, so it kinda sucks for someone like me with Rheumatoid arthritis because I cant stand for very long, so we cant go on the weekends. But we went twice during the week this week and the wait was very short. So if you want a great breakfast at a decent price, nice wait staff, and you're near glastonbury, Kens is a place to check out for sure!

Absolutely divine…read more It has been so long since I've been able to have a crab cake that's gluten free, but at The Charles, their crab cakes are gluten free and lovely. But first, walking into The Charles is a step back into time yet still fresh and intentional. Plenty to look at all around the restaurant. The layout of even the bar is nice with seats by the windows and plenty of TVs playing the games without being disruptive. The building is gorgeous, well kept, and I can see how this restaurant gets packed quickly! But back to the gluten free crab cake. I would have loved some slightly larger chunks of crab, it was the crispy texture on the outside and soft inside that made my heart melt. The cakes sat lightly on an aioli and beside some greens, and each bit was delectable and delicious. Lovely appetizer. I also have the octopus basquaise, and I loved it. The potatoes needed just a smidge more seasoning and were sitting in oil, but I cared not, because it was an oil with Kalamata olives and tart, and how lovely it all was together. The octopus was nicely cooked and tender and not greasy. The potatoes were a lovely vessel, and the aioli was not too overpowering. A delicious fish overall. The service was great, friendly, and you can tell they love their regulars. Everyone was on the move at all times and overall very efficient and kind. Tons of gluten free dishes naturally. I loved coming to The Charles and look forward to coming back later this week to try their actual dishes. But if the entrees are even close to as good as the appetizers, I'm sure it will all be delicious!

They have plenty of seating, some upholstered furniture and we saw a few Friday morning telecommuters working on their laptops and sipping their coffees. Our order was a Chai Latte and a Cold Brew - each was $5. The pours were very large, and I swear that my cold brew was the very best I've ever had. I love coffee, drinking it hot or cold, and what I had here is in my all-time Top Five Percent. It was that good. I had a sip of my wife's Chai Latte and thought it was excellent as well. What really impressed me were the flavors of both drinks- not overpowering, but strong enough to appreciate them. The Coffee Guy has it all - specialty coffees, matcha, chai, espresso drinks, and pastries and sweet treats to pair with your coffee cup. We couldn't resist grabbing a few on our way out, and we took home a box with a Spinach croissant, iced blueberry scone, and a cruffin (croissant/muffin hybrid). We loved our visit to the Coffee Guy, and I was so impressed by the total experience, I just subscribed to their newsletter. When I arrived I was told it would be a 45 minute wait. Basically my reservation was useless. The 2 greeters made no attempt to address this whatsoever and didn't care at all. We decided to wait at the bar 2. The bar was not crowded with a couple of bartenders. We placed our order. The bartender looked like she didn't know what she was doing and greeted us with about as little enthusiasm and happiness as possible. (Maybe she was having a bad day). She didn't seem to know how to mix two drinks; a manhattan and a Negroni. She couldn't answer our question about what gin she had at the bar and just told us to ' look' as she pointed behind her. Then it took about 10 minutes for three drinks to arrive; the poorly made Negroni, a Coors light in the bottle (she never asked if I wanted a glass), the wrong glass of white wine that she had to redo with the correct one, then after 5 more minutes the manhattan arrived, also made poorly. She didn't charge us for that drink due to the delay saying she had to wait to get the vermouth. That's an odd excuse from a bartender. I've been a paid bartender, I know what to expect and she was just horrible. I'm sorry but that's a plain fact. If she worked for me I would have fired her on the spot and took over myself. 3. By this time, about 7:50, we were seated at an outside table. The crowd was dying down but our waitress was less than attentive and certainly not prompt. We have dietary allergies that she promptly noted but did nothing about as she said she would check wth the kitchen about of couple of possible choices we had interest in, but never came back to give us the answer. Now being quite impatient, we ordered anyway based on the menu description. One appetizer could not be eaten because of the allergy. We asked for the wine list, that never arrived, and it was 10 minutes until she came back to the table, but we ordered without it. The waitress seemed like she could care less about how we were doing or how she was performing her job. After dinner, ironically, the manager stopped by to ask how everything was, but we quickly said things were OK only because it would have taken too much time to make note of everything that had gone wrong. By now it was after 9 and my reservation was at 7. We had to leave. Suffice it to say, we won't be back. A sad overall experience indeed. I don't expect this restaurant and or management will be around for long as I have no reason to believe we were the only party to endure this horrible dining experience.
