I haven't been to Matty D's in years. I had a few visits that left a sour taste in my mouth but it seems like they've switched things around for the most part. I got a burger and tried a bite of their fried fish sandwich. Both were pretty bland, not bad! Just not something I'd go out of my way to get in the future. The drinks were pretty strong and the green tea shots were delicious! We ended up being there while a game was on so it was definitely LOUD lol. Matty Ds is one of the only places in Hartford that you can go to and there's a 75% chance that you will enjoy your night. Why 75% you ask. Not too many places left in Hartford that you can go out to and have a good time and it not end in a shooting. With that being said, the staff capitalizes on that and basically gives service with an attitude, over charge and let you know if you don't like it you can go else where. I've personally heard them talk about patrons. Last night I went in for drinks, not nightlife drinks but sit and have a drink and a bite. Lights still on kind of drink. Their food is something to rave about. I ordered A drink and was charged $20+ for one drink. I asked why and was told that it was a double (which I am certain it wasn't). The kick is that I didn't order a double. I asked for my drink. I did't specify if it was on the rocks or anything. I ordered my drink because it's a gamble to order a cocktail. It depends on who is making it and you might actually get the cocktail you ordered versus the bartender's interpretation of what the cocktail actually is. My order included my drink, 4 cocktails (for my friends) and an appetizer and my bill was almost $150. When I look, the added gratuity was over $20+. It's mind boggling that I am paying as much for gratuity as my nonexistent double but the service was subpar. The sad part is that I can't even say I wont be back because Matty D's is a part of our community. It is a safe space for many. It is a space where we can go alone and guaranteed to run into people you know if you are from the area. It is a place where you can enjoy a good vibe and make it home safe. So if anything comes from this review let it be to retrain your bartenders or get new ones. Get them certified so they can learn how to create a proper cocktail according to the State Alcohol Association and understand the importance of customer service. read more

Matty D's is that quintessential local Hartford bar - casual and consistent. Every time we go, it's pretty much the same experience, (this is a good thing). Happy Hour The real draw for us are the wings; they're always hot, and spicy. Lemon pepper is top notch and they have a good variety (my friend is obsessed). Honestly, the happy hour is the reason we keep coming back. Cheap mixed drinks, basic bar apps and a short commute from work made this the perfect happy hour spot. Happy hour is 4-7pm and is also on Saturdays. Try the wings, nachos, and the burger first. Experience The Bartenders are all smiles and super sweet. Never had bad service! Food always comes out quickly so you don't have the chance to complain about a wait. Parking is okay, nothing to rave about. There is a smaller lot. The Scene During the week, it's a local bar in a Hartford neighborhood (not downtown, folks). It is what it is supposed to be, and for that we are grateful. We went for the UCONN finals recently, and by the second quarter, the place was packed. On weekends, at night, it turns into more of a club scene- DJ playing loud music and a dance floor. This was my first time here and I've already recommended it to a bunch of my girl friends! Literally, this is the place you want to be for a hip hop brunch. I loved the DJ! The music was a bit loud for our first half but there was a baby shower taking place and the rest of my crew loved it. The establishment itself is super cozy. I love the bar tables and chairs. Lex was our waitress and she was simply amazing! She was so attentive and super accommodating when we asked for group pictures. I honestly didn't have much expectation for the food but I was far from disappointed! I had the fish tacos and although I do like to try new things, I'll definitely be back and get those again, specifically! You can never go wrong with bottomless mimosas and our glasses stayed full here! Lex, suggested a French Martini for me and it'll be added to my list as go to cocktails! Best wings HANDS DOWN. I came for Sunday brunch and was delighted they have wings which I was not expecting. Not only do they have wings they do them right. They are baked first then fried. ...delicious. Crispy on the outside juicy on the inside. Their brunch menu seemed ok. Seems like it's thrown together just to host a brunch. I asked for a monte cristo but they did not have ham. They did offer to sub a meat however I just asked for egg whites and cheese. There was a DJ that played very good music for a soulful Sunday. In these times, social media is one of the best ways to advertise. Due to the location, I would have never known about this restaurant without it. When first arriving (for happy hour) , it looked tight & the extremely small parking lot didn't help. I chose to park in it but right at the entrance, because the angle & the amount of spots, it was possible I would get blocked in if the foot traffic picked up. At 5p, the place was dead. Only myself & 2 other gentleman were dining. Upon entering, the place is spacious, with open dining area, a semi private space in the front, & then the bar has its own section with bar & table seating. At sat myself at a bar table to wait for my friend to arrive. The friendly bartender promptly came over to take a drink order & had no issues when I asked to sub 1 liquor for another in one of their listed drinks. As I waited, the music playing was from late 90's to 00's & the volume was at a comfortable volume where I heard it clearly & was able to also hear conversations. Jumping forward, my friend & I used the QR code to review the happy hour menu & made our choices. The 2 fish tacos were a hefty size & contained fried fish, very filling. The chili nachos were so tasty. The chips were thicker than what'd you receive at a Mexican restaurant but not so thick where your jaw is getting a workout. They're definitely made for scooping & holding the toppings. The sauces made these nachos for me & the jalapeños weren't spicy at all,which I enjoyed. The chili itself was basic but still delicious. I found myself scraping for it at the bottom of the basket. Even though, there was only 1 layer of the toppings, when you grabbed the chips, some of it would drop to the bottom so the others did get covered. The serving dish does matter. That wouldn't happen on a flat plate. On to the sausage & peppers flatbread...acceptable. Nothing to exciting here. The flatbread was more like the frozen pizza dough. However, it didn't taste like frozen food. I will say, it could have been a bit more saucy. The sausage were flat discs & the peppers were chopped into squares. There was 1 sausage & 1 pepper on each slice. My friend ordered the sprouts. The amount received in the deep bowl was a nice surprise. They are also served whole, not halves. According to my friend, whole alters the taste, but she liked it. There's also some sauce dripped on them, possibly teriyaki. While the tacos came out hot, everything else was just warm. Also, the drinks were weak, to the point that I didn't want to buy anything else & switched to water. We ordered the Skylar, subbing tequila for vodka. It tasted like 100% juice. Over time, more patrons came in, & my friend ended up getting blocked in. Unlike other establishments, the owner is always present and very involved. It's a great place to go with friends, or on your own after a long day at work. They have a great new menu and AWESOME Happy Hour Specials till 7! On Friday's and Saturday's after about 10 pm there's a DJ playing a mix of old and new music. On Sunday's they host Brunch with a DJ and an unlimited Mimosa special till 3pm. If you're looking for a chill place with good vibes this is the place to check out. Went on a Friday and spent time with the bartender, Alex! He's such a nice guy, and most definitely knows the menu. There's also a modern-day jukebox so you can rock out to your favorite tunes. My friends always brunch here and they invited me to join them. On Sundays, they have a brunch like how the big cities do with bottomless mimosas & a DJ. So it's sort of like a party and this is one of the only places in Hartford that offers this. The two times I've been here I got the shrimp Benedict and chose bottomless. They have so many flavors which was really good. The food was good and the atmosphere is nice. Their waitresses are so cute and kind to customers and just sweet overall. I have to give them credit bc it gets so loud in there and they aren't rude to customers. The only downside is yes there's a dj and yes it's a "scene" but the DJ's volume can gradually increase through the day. It's so loud at like 11:30am that you can barely hear your friends talk. I lost my voice yesterday just trying to have a normal convo. Also, it's always cold in there. Not sure what's that about. Overall, I like it here. Stumbled across this place looking for breakfast on a Sunday and it was a great find. Friendly, fast service and tasty food, plus bottom-less mimosas. The breakfast tacos were so good, we ordered another batch, and my kids enjoyed their eggs and pancakes. Matty D's.. so it's my second time coming here for brunch, the servers and bartenders are nice and very attentive, the appetizers good, street corn is awesome, music great! BUT for the second time I couldn't stay any longer than I wanted to just because it was way to hot in the restaurant and bar area, several other customers were fanning themselves down with the menu, some came in and out of the restaurant for some air, after my first beer I couldn't stand the heat and had to leave. I would strive for the free app and give a four or even a five star on the restaurant, however I hate the heat and I think a restaurant should have air conditioning or at least the industrial fan to accommodate the customers if something is going on with the HVAC system. This is my only downside to this place and the reason why I gave 3 stars. read more

They staff has been friendly and attentive each time I've visited. The owner (Matt) stopped by our table one night to introduce himself and check on our experience. That's always a nice touch! Went here for the first time today after it being recommended. Food was amazing, We ordered off brunch and regular menu. Wings were delicious we got the sesame sweet. One of us ordered the chicken and waffles and the other ordered brunch burger both came with home fries, these meals both tasted really good. A order was placed for bottomless mimosas which was never received, had to keep waiting for awhile and even had to flag down waitress for a refill even waiting for a coke refill took long. The service was not to good and they can not blame being busy as most of the tables were empty, not sure of phone orders, as we went early. Staff at most times were no where to be found. States when you order you automatically pay a 20% gratuity, which I definitely would not have given. My family has worked in food service for years and has stated that when you know regardless of the service you provide you are going to get a good tip you don't care about doing a good job. read more

When I arrived to Matty D's the security guard was really aggressive with the crowd especially with females. He didn't allow anyone in the doors when it was crowded which is understandable. However, we noticed that people were exiting and he still did not allow for people to go in. He decided to be argumentative with guests especially me. I just needed to meet my friend who was already inside at a reserved tabled and he knew this information and still did not let me in. So I left pissed off and he still wanted to argue back in fourth. One star for hospitality and poor customer service. If your managing the crowd and implementing safety measures , there are other ways to go about it respectfully, instead of turning paying customers away!! I will NOT come to this poor managed and unsafe establishment ever again!!! They lost a loyal customer and I would advise others to think twice before visiting this bar. I definitely share my poor experience with everyone that I know to never come and support an establishment like this . Poor & ghetto environment!! read more

Yelp indicates they close at one am, but they were talking about closing early. So we had to sit outside to meet with the people we were meeting. My first experience at Matty D's for brunch was phenomenal. The food was absolutely delightful. I had your basic breakfast; home fries, scrambled eggs and bacon. The bacon was cooked to crisp, the home fries were perfectly seasoned & the eggs were made just the way I like them with cheese added. The food reminded me of a mom and pop diner but with updated music and great staff. And don't get me started on the endless mimosas. The flavors vary from guava to grapefruit and more! First time visiting the establishment. First impression nice and clean! the food was AWESOME and the Music was PERFECT! The problem was my waitress was friendly, just not very attentive to what was happening at my table. Everyone received their food except me. I waited for about 30 minutes just to have my waitress say " you haven't received your food yet"? I felt if she was paying attention to our table she would have noticed that earlier. Finally 30 minutes later I received my food, my table was finished with their food.The table across from us had received their food and was done before me. (that table came in and ordered after my table). Once I was done eating and asked for my bill, I noticed that I had been charged for something that was suppose to have been on someone else's bill. I paid the tab. My waitress never came back with my change nor did she come back to ask if I was all set or needed anything else! I felt that she didn't treat me the same as every one else :( . Even though I enjoyed the atmosphere and the people I was with, I don't know if I would re-visit Matty D's again. I left feeling.. Had a very bad experience. I was there w/ a party of 20 & the service was beyond subpar. There were only 2 servers on a busy Sunday afternoon. We were trying to have patience but after waiting 90 min for our food I decided to inquire about it. I was told that there were 5 tickets ahead of mine despite the fact that the crowd had already dispersed. Another woman in our party that had ordered about 30 min before I arrived also hadn't got her food and when she asked, the server told her it was 10 tickets ahead of hers which let me know she had forgot to place our orders. I eventually asked for the manager. When he came, instead of being apologetic, he made excuses and was extremely rude. I tried to explain that the server should've come to us at some point & informed us that she didn't forget us or something along those lines. Long story short, he basically told us that if we didn't like it we didn't have to come back. And I will definitely be taking him up on that. read more
