I was pleasantly surprised at how good this supermarket is! I was expecting your usual Asian supermarket but what I got was an exceptionally nice one. I know my Asian supermarkets as my mom toted me around to Asian supermarkets all the time since I was a little munchkin. This market is very clean, very organized. So much stuff too. Fresh vegetables and fruits and the prices are very reasonable. Also so much fresh seafood to chose from! They are also packed with frozen seafood too! There is a hot food area and Im definitely going to come back and try some of these dishes. I came looking for some laksa ingredients as this week is much cooler and cloudy and ideal weather for a hot soup in the evening. I found everything I needed and so much more too. They also sell ready made seafood and I did buy a whole fried tilapia to give it a try. Its a little dry and not much flavor so I may skip it next time. *This is more of a 3.5 Been going here since I was a kid, so I've seen most of the changes that this store has been through (from those ceiling mirrors, the store before it expanded the rice bags and houseware section, to entry gates, etc). Lucky Seafood is, for the most part, a great stop and shop for the hard to find Southeast Asian essentials on my side of town and for neighboring North County as well as Temecula. Definitely saves me a trip whenever I don't want to go to OC or the other Vietnamese supermarkets in San Diego. The main reason why I'm docking a few stars off is because I've noticed them selling expired items a few times... and one of the more recent times, I happened to bring one of those home (a box of Tom Yum MaMa noodles). Not the end of the world for that experience, but it's also not the greatest feeling when it's something you've been craving just to realize that maaaybe you shouldn't eat/drink the food from there. I usually try to avoid canned Thai teas, dairy, or the soft drink section for that reason (hey--sometimes you just crave a strawberry Nesquik from the grocery store lol). On a more positive note, I have noticed have they are including more ingredients and pantry staples that have been hard to find a few years ago (like Pandan extract). The nearby Pho Lucky is a hidden gem worth dining at and the cashiers in-store are 90% of the time pleasant and friendly as well. Also, this small store gets PACKED (both inside and outside the parking lot) during peak hours, so plan your shopping trips wisely. I try to remember to stop by here every time I'm in this part of town because the food is delicious. They have tons of food options available. Fish, shrimp, pork, chicken, veggies. Sides are fried rice, chow mein, pancit, and flat noodle. I usually go for half and half rice with flat noodle paired with mapo tofu, pork belly and shrimp dish, and chicken curry this time around. They carry all the essential ingredients to make your favorite Vietnamese dish. Prices are reasonable. However, this review is strictly about the spring rolls (goi cuon). It is the best supermarket spring rolls I have tried. Just the right ratio of veggie, noodles, pork and shrimp. Sauce is deliciously balanced and the peanut butter is not too overwhelming. $8 for 3 rolls may seem expensive but it is worth it. I arrived at 9:25 AM and they only have 7 portions on the counter. Lucky seafood has a lot of meats, poultry, pork and other hard to find items that are no way in general markets. I love how they have a lot of vietnamese ingredients since that is what I cook everyday for my husband. I like that it doesn't have a lot of Filipino items, bc then that would make me never come. There's seafood city down the street. I need Chinese ingredients and vietnamese specialties. So, lucky seafood does well enough for that. It's super dirty here all the time and again, I will say, the people here are rude and deserve no awards. Terrible customer service! The girl working at the cashier was extremely rude. When we handed her cash she literally snatched the money out of our hand. The whole time she was watching TikToks -- I could clearly see her phone on the table and she had AirPods in while working. The customer in front of us asked a simple question about tofu after paying, and the cashier just yelled "I don't know!" before the customer could even finish speaking. I watched a worker use a metal sponge to clean the entire counter surface--from the edge to the top--and it picked up visible grime and dirt. Then, without switching tools, he rinsed that same dirty sponge and began scrubbing a catfish's skin with it. The sponge was clearly contaminated, and there was no attempt to separate food prep from cleaning tasks. Watching debris being transferred from a surface to fresh seafood was more than unsettling--it was unacceptable. To management: I hope this is not standard practice. I've grown up in Mira Mesa and lucky seafood has always been me and my families go to, supporting our Vietnamese community. My grandma is old and sick as well as my mother who has cancer. I always go to the buffet to grab them a quick to go meal and always loved how affordable it was. Today the girl that has been working behind the food line who's been there for a long time decided to tell me there was no more white rice and to take fried rice "please" as she rushed me. I said oh... really? Ok.. even though I saw another worker serve white rice to the customer before me, but I thought with good judgment maybe they were low on the white rice. Then she said something to her co worker when I wanted the bitter melon soup for my mom and grandma and I was given a small portion of the soup, the girl rushed me and I asked that I wanted two items and she proceeded to tell me $6 more for soup. Maybe I was getting it wrong the whole time but I've never been charged extra for con chua if I had one item and wanted con chua as a second item unless I am not reading the board right but she insisted I had to pay up $6 if I wanted it on top of just one item I chose today. Anyways I had this weird feeling she had something against me so I waited around looking at the snack isle next to the food line, her co worker minutes later then serves another Vietnamese guy heaping amounts of white rice so that lady straight out lied to me. I am usually a nice person and this time I wanted to speak up for myself because today was not my day so I confronted her and asked her why did she lie and tell me there was no white rice and made get fried rice when I saw someone else get white rice she didn't want to look me in the face, she looked away and then knodded her head and said ok ok and threw her hand to the side telling me to get the rice, I didn't and I left with a sour taste in my mouth. I realized why she was proabably mad at me, since new years TET is coming up I saw all the decorations were out. Last year my cousin bought one of the decorations hanging on top of the buffet, I've never bought one but thought this year i'd like to gift one to my cousins and have one in my room for good luck. That day I was there I asked her if I can have one and she spoke fast in Vietnamese and I couldn't understand fully so she said go ask the guys at the cash register not registering that she meant to take the ones there since they weren't out in eyes view I was confused, I thought she meant I have to ask them how much it is and they can grab it for me since it was tied up high from their food buffet. The lady at the register was so nice, she told me to grab one and buy the one that was open at her register, so I did and then one of the workers came by and she asked him for me to get the one hanging on the buffet so he said ok, he was so kind, he took a ladder and cut one down for me. It has a price tag and everything so I paid for two decorations from the checkout line and one from the buffet line. It didn't dawn on me till later today I realized she probably was bitter towards me because I took one of their decorations for new year which you can see the gap because the rest is still up, i felt maybe to her it was bad luck so she wanted to rush me out and give me crappy service when i see her all the time. Well girl if I would've known it wasn't for purchase I wouldn't have bought it and taken it away from your territory, if I had it back in my car I would've just shoved it back to you if it made you that bitter, taking the decor was nothing towards her it was an exciting decoration I thought I can for the first time this year decorate with since every year has been a quiet one for me. It's adequate. Nothing more, nothing less. The Hot Food Express Deli is a fast casual cafeteria-style spot inside the Lucky Seafood Vietnamese grocery store. They serve up mostly traditional Vietnamese dishes that are surprisingly hard to find anywhere else in the nearby area (too much pho, too little variety). I got a two-entrée plate for $10: Fried rice, thit kho, and char siu. Decently large portions, high-fat, high-flavor pork. Their food isn't winning them a James Beard award any time soon but it gets the job done well enough. Likely won't find many deals as good as this and it's enough food to last the day. I enjoy shopping at Lucky Seafood because it's a much smaller market than H Mart or 99 Ranch and I can get in and out of the store much faster. They have a large number of items such as, meat, produce, noodles, rice, spices, sauces, seafood and much more. If you're not in the mood to cook, a hot "food-to-go" section is where you can pick up a la carte, ready-made items to take home or to a picnic or party. My favorite item that I love to pick up there is the bags of seedless preserved plum. These items are so hard to find here in San Diego and if you order them from Hawaii, it costs a fortune for not only the product, but for shipping as well. I've had a consistently disappointing experience with the food-to-go section. The staff often come across as arrogant, treating customers as if we're asking for favors rather than paying for food. It's frustrating--especially when all we want is to be treated with basic respect. Also, the spring rolls are almost always sold out early. By 9:30, they're gone. Pretty decent Asian grocery store however you can smell the seafood counter from the parking lot. Be careful where you walk. It's not uncommon to see a fish flopping around on the floor. They have a great produce department and their prices are fair and very competitive. The store could stand a good deep cleaning. They have a hot food bar at the front of the store. Unless you get there when they first open skip the food bar. Most is overcooked, old and lacks flavor. Bring your patience's with you. One of the handful of Vietnamese Supermarkets in the area. I tend to go to Lucky Seafood vs H-mart or 99 ranch whenever I desire buying certain things that are focused towards Vietnamese cuisine. The pricing for some of these items are more competitive and variety is better if you're trying to say make Vietnamese dishes like bun rieu, pho, bun bo hue, buy a durian, etc. They sometimes have a exotic seafood like blue crab, crab, different sea snails, oysters at relatively competitive prices. The market gets an "ok" rating because sometimes the cashiers aren't the friendliest or nicest and you're going to have to bag your own groceries while you are trying to pay and not take too much time with them starting to check out the next customer. The meat you buy from the fresh meat counter is packaged in very thin bags, so be careful to not accidentally poke a hole in it. The vegetables can be a real hit or miss. If you're able to drive down to Linda Vista or City Heights, you might have a better shot at getting better quality vegetables and nicer service. read more

I have also bought fish to be deep fried for free for a quick and easy dinner. I have always found the staff to provide perfectly good and quick service I stopped coming here because I do not consistently carry cash, but they have a minimum purchase requirement in order to use credit card (I think $5). So by default I go to HMart. Parking lot always has a ton of parking, and it is pretty easy to get in and out of this shopping center. read more

They need to be more forthcoming and honest about their pricing. If they a mistake, they need to own it. I went today to buy supplies for Spam Misubi. They had a wide variety of flavors and the sign says "All Flavors on sale for $4.49". It just happened to be listed under the Maple Flavor Spam. I went to pay and they charged me $4.99. I didn't notice until I left. Once I realized it, I went back and the lady at the service desk had one of her managers look it up on the computer. The manager said it wasn't on sale and that they forgot to remove the sign. Great! They are owning their mistake. She refunded me $1.00. She proceeded to walk to the aisle to take down the sign. I left the store thinking they have great customer service. Nope, the lady found me in my car with a can of the Maple Flavored spam arguing with me that it was ONLY the Maple Flavor that was on sale. The sign clearly states ALL FLAVORS. I had to correct her and say that the sign says otherwise. I am not sure if the language barrier was the issue but I don't trust this store anymore. Wow, I'm surprised to read so many bad reviews. I guess I've never really interacted with any staff here, as I have never ordered food from their deli section. I just pick up a few essentials, and just pay and leave the store. This place is ok IMO if u don't want to drive to Kearny Mesa ranch 99. I've always gotten veggies here, it's not the best selection like Hmart but definitely cheaper. I've also gotten Chinese sauces, and snacks. The variety of Chinese goods isn't great, but it's a Vietnamese store. You can find lots of Vietnamese products. They also carry some Korean, Filipino and Japanese items. I gotta say, there's a funky smell in the store( but I got used to it already), and they can work on the cleanliness of the store. The lines do move kind of slow though. There were only 2 people in front of me and they didn't have a full cart but the line was still moved slowly. So be prepared to wait. read more

OK maybe jackpot of $50 at a slot machine kind of joy. You know they sell this plastic thing for $22 on Amazon when it only costs $1.50 to make? Talk about stealing people's money. Putting my weird obsession about spring roll apparatus aside, their produce were fresh and cheap with a decent variety! Their selection wasn't as big as 99 ranch but it's comparable. They had green onions for only 20 cents! I noticed at least their produce were slightly cheaper but I wasn't sure about other stuff. They also had a deli section. A 3 item entree was $8 including tax, not bad. They packed it full with my 3rd item in a separate container. Their carbs were under salted maybe to even out the flavor in the items. I wanted to try their tofu dishes but ended up with another customer's box when I got home lol. I can tell you their orange chicken was not good but their pork belly was decent but there was a really thick layer of fat. None of this I would've ordered myself because they didn't look good lol. About the only place I can find produce and food right now. I only come here for certain produce and certain seasonings or items I can't find at a big box stores. Produce can be a hit or miss here. Some things are great and priced cheaper than other places. But the quality isn't always there. I like to get my greens here, they have bokchoy, Chinese broccoli, yu choy Chinese water spinach and I love Thai basil. Mushrooms of all varieties are here and priced well. I prefer not to get meats or seafood here. They also have a hot food to go section. They served a variety of hot foods and pre packaged items. They are also connected to a pho restaurant next door. Decent place to go for Asian grocery shopping. They also have a take out cafeteria style that serves Chinese/Vietnamese food as well. Pretty convenient so you can get your groceries and grab food on the way out. I wanted to give a shout out to an employee. I was specifically looking for some salted preserved plum (champoy). This dude was super nice and took the time to go and check in the back to see if there was a shipment that arrived. He couldn't find the one I was looking for but suggested these seedless sweeter and sour version instead. Turned out that I really liked them. Went back here and got a few more.
