Not one, but two cockroaches seen during our visit on 5/30/26. I'm not a pho person, but my husband is, and the friends who were visiting in town are as well. Pho Lucky was...I repeat, WAS... a place they all enjoyed. I went along to visit with said out of towners and just planned to order a noodle plate of some sort. I hadn't even been seated before the first cockroach was found crawling on my chair! (Thank God I saw it before sitting on it or having it crawl on me!!) The kids were hungry, and it would not be easy to relocate dinner plans for twelve people, because if I had my way, we would have walked out right then. Everyone ate quickly, I spent most of the time looking under the table, on the walls, at the chairs, in corners of the floor looking for anything else. After trying to go to another spot across the street, we went to our second option, Pho Lucky lol! Inside is spacious and theres plenty of seating. The interior actually feels kind've fancy. After being seated right away, we had to call over the employee to take our order! The pho was delicious, simple and hit the spot after a long night out before. The restaurant is right next to a Vietnamese supermarket, and parking is super convenient. There are plenty of seats, so there's no need to wait. The interior is beautiful and very clean. As soon as we walked in, four staff members quickly attended to us--pouring water and handing us menus--super fast service! Noodles all expand an suck the broth half of the bowl. I came here for soup not half dry noodles or half broth soup. I asked waitress to see if she can ask the cook to give me a little more broth. She said $2.50. I asked if I want more broth because of normal broth portion then I'll accept the charge different but this is way under portion for the bowl of pho. Normally I'd go to Hoai Hue for Bun Bo Hue, but for the days that I'm feeling something convenient, the BBH at Pho Lucky hits the spot. For those of you who might be unfamiliar, Bun Bo Hue is just the spicy beef noodle soup cousin of Pho, just with more lemongrass flavor to it. I usually get my BBH to-go whenever I'm craving it and it still tastes fresh and ready to eat at home too. To-go BBH often comes with a bag of assorted vegetable toppings, a large container of soup (can feed 1-2 people, maybe even 3), chili paste, and a container where the rest of the proteins, garnishes, and noodles are stored. Not too many Vietnamese spots nearby offer BBH (or at least good BBH) and a neighboring Pho restaurant has it on the menu, but their version tastes a lil watered down for my liking. That being said, I'm grateful that Pho Lucky offers it on their menu and everything works so well, flavor-wise. Definitely give this spot and their BBH a try if you haven't already! read more

Aloha all! Dropped into Pho Lucky for a quick bite and decided to go with an order of Spring Rolls with Shrimp. It included a combination of crunchy veggies, vermicelli noodles and savory bites of shrimp all wrapped in a chewy rice paper shell. I dipped it in the delicious and sweet peanut sauce and it provided me with a perfect snack that kept me satisfied during my errands run. Stopped at Pho Lucky for a quick lunch and this place is a hidden gem! Located to the left of Lucky Seafood in the plaza with Aldi, there was plenty of parking within the lot. It's been years since I've been out this way, but I heard there's a new cook or a change in management at this spot, so I decided to give it another shot--and I'm glad I did! We started with the egg rolls, and they were a solid 10/10--super crispy, flavorful, and served piping hot (just how I like them). We also tried the beef fresh spring rolls, which were delicious and surprisingly filling. The beef had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. A couple of us ordered the pho (noodle soup), which came in a metal bowl and stayed hot the entire meal. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and there was plenty of tender meat in the bowl--no skimping here. The only downside was the service. There seemed to be only one person taking orders, one bringing out food, and one at the register. We weren't really checked on and had to flag someone down a few times, which was a bit frustrating. They greet you with a smile then take you to your table. Seconds later, they brought over your water and menus. We ordered the following dishes: 1. This is the best hidden gem spot ever, even though they have a supermarket right next to them. I can feel the sensation and effort that they bring to the bowl. Eggrolls 3 piece ($6): crispy, seasoned, and plenty of filling, 8.5/10 rating. Served within two minutes from ordering. Pho with Rare Beef (large = $12.45): the flavorful broth is served at a hot temperature, and they provide at least 25% more noodles than other spots, 8.5/10 rating. Get a spicy bite by adding a jalapeño slice and a drizzle of sriracha. This restaurant has been renovated to a more modern design that is appealing. Their prompt service and quality of food remind me of how Pho Ca Dao on Mira Mesa used to operate. Makes me wonder if the manager and/or staff have transitioned to this eatery. Pho Lucky, a re-imagining of the pre-COVID Mira Mesa staple, is tucked away on the far, almost hidden corner of Lucky Seafood. Remodeled and reinvigorated, their grand re-opening came out swinging, ready to overthrow the titan "competitor" across the street. And in my opinion, they've got the ingredients to make that happen. I am a simple man. I enjoy a simple bowl of pho. And Pho Lucky does simple pho right. Nothing stands out and nothing is mind-blowingly delicious. All the flavors are decently good and balanced. The broth was deeply beefy, with a healthy dose of (what I'm assuming was) MSG. The meat was perfectly pink and rare. The garnish on top (and to the side) gave a decent citrus and bitter component adding variety to the soup's color and mouthfeel. I topped it off with a decent dose of sriracha and hoisen and I was pleasantly happy. But the food wasn't the only positive from this experience. Surprisingly, the inside was clean and tidy. Tables were orderly, nothing was sticky or stained. Not at all what I expected from a family restaurant. Unsurprisingly, their one drawback was their poor customer service. I walked into a basically empty venue, made eye contact with multiple staff, and nobody moved. I awkwardly shuffled my way towards a table, glancing back to who I thought was the host, and she just eyed me down like I didn't belong. When I was finished with my meal, I tried to get the attention of the workers and gesture the universal "check" hand sign, but no luck. It wasn't until I got up and walked to the front cashier (typically reserved for takeout orders) that the host with the mobile card reader approached me, all while still avoiding eye contact. I'm know I'm not the most handsome fella but come on! Regardless, they gave me what I wanted: nothing more, nothing less. And that's good enough for me. As an aside, the "competitor" across the street served me salt water for broth with a side of lemon. I've given them repeated chances and they've repeatedly let me down. Came here on a Tuesday morning because we were in the mood for hot soup or pho. Found this place through Yelp and decided to give it a try. The place is easy enough to find, in Mira Mesa, off of Mira Mesa Boulevard. It is adjacent/attached right next to Lucky Seafood Market. There is plenty of parking in this shopping center. The place is clean and spacious with a lot of seating available. There were a couple of other customers aside from us, and maybe 2-3 customers that came in to pick up orders to go while we dined there. After we browsed the menu, the wifey ordered a seafood soup with shrimp and crab (3/5). I decided to try their beef stew with French Bread (3/5). Both dishes ended up being just okay. The seafood soup was okay, as the crab is imitation and the broth is not the most flavorful. The beef stew was a bit bland and came out warm (no steam when stirring). There's something about food that just comes out warm, that makes it less appetizing (at least for me). The actual beef was tender, but had too much fat and the portion of the stew was on the smaller side. Our server was attentive and pleasant. We recognized her (and she recognized us) from another pho restaurant we frequent. When I paid the bill, I interacted with someone else (who was also friendly). Service here was good. I think we will probably try their pho next time. Everything else about this place was good.
