I moved to Texas from California. I have been looking for shrimp prepared like my favorite Chinese restaurant. They are fried in a beer batter style. I tried many here and they are mostly tempura fried. Well Lucky Wok Chinese Cafe has on their menu "Chinese style fried shrimp ". I ordered it, reasonable price, and it so close to my favorite I was delighted. They are great with their hot mustard! I am also hooked on Egg Drop Soup and theirs is yummy and they have the best crispy noodles I have had. Definitely my go to for Chinese food! read more

Was kinda of Skeptical going in here. The place didn't look like it was kept up. The inside was definitely out dated it had old booths from the previous restaurant. It had a weird smell inside also but sometimes the best food can come out of a place like this. They did have a drive through which was pretty interesting, I have never seen that before. I ordered crab and cheese wontons. They were lacking filling it was more wonton then filling inside. I got the sweet and sour chicken and fried rice. The fried rice was very bland and had a weird taste. The chicken was okay. The sauce was more sour then sweet it was definitely off. My fiancé got chicken and broccoli with vegetables fried rice. The chicken had a odd taste like it was old or wasn't clean. The veggies were okay I mean you can't mess up veggies. There was a lady sitting down chopping up cabbage so I guess some of it is fresh It was pretty cheap for the amount of food you got. Basically you get what you pay for. James and I decided to rediscover Lucky Wok a few weeks ago after reading so many raves in other threads about their Green Beans with Beef. Delicious. We've returned twice since. Most recently, I had Green Beans Chicken, which I found more satisfying; egg rolls with ass-kicking mustard; steamed dumplings, and James got Mongolian Beef. Really good. Substantial portions. Nice lunch spot with its large windows and vintage vibe as building was Long John Silvers and is little renovated. My only caution is we did not enjoy the soups. Decent Chinese food at affordable prices! They have a drive through, so you can quickly pick up some lunch specials. Very convenient option! On this particular visit, I had the spicy chicken and moo goo gai pan specials. My only gripe with the food was they had very limited amounts of meat. Honestly, it felt like I was eating vegetarian dishes with the disparity in the meat to vegetable ratio. The fried rice was also a bit dry and lacking in flavor. The price is great on everything at this place. My favorite is the pork and green beans. It usually comes with white or fried rice but I always substitute that for the mixed veggies. The little baby corn in the mixed veggies is my favorite. The cabbage in that mixed veggies is pretty tasty too. My kids love the Sweet and sour chicken, it's like they can't get enough of it. They also really enjoy the egg rolls. I find the lo mien kind of bland but my kids dont seem to mind. The wait has never been very long, I don't think I've waited more than five minutes for my lunch or dinner. This spot is very convenient for me as well. Foods cheap but quality is terrible the restaurant is disgustingly gross. The chicken is a questionable mystery meat. A lot of food for the price but it's so gross you won't finish. The food wasn't bad although the fried rice recipe could use a revamp, I've never had fried rice come out the color that theirs is with hardly any flavor. But the BATHROOM though! The hall outside, you can start to smell the septic system and it's overwhelming in the bathroom even with a mask on. It smells like it's about to bubble up through the floor drain. The toilet and sink were also disgusting so much so that it seemed cleaner to just not wash my hands. So I have been really craving Chinese food lately and this place came up in the discussion. We have been meaning to try it and today after a movie seemed like the perfect time! We drove up about 1:00 pm on a Sunday and the place looked closed. Not a good sign. But we must have had the same idea as a few others because as soon as we parked, two cars pulled in and 5-6 people walked in. Ok, so it's not closed. I guess that's good? I still was a little leery. We walked in and it's order at the counter and then pick a seat. They have a big, easy to read menu board (old eyes you know), plus paper menus set out on the counter. The girl that took our order was super sweet and really helpful. We ordered our lunch and then decided to try the spring rolls and she made sure we understood these were the fried kind, not the clear Vietnamese kind, which was perfect. We both ordered the Combination Plates C16, which is General Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. All for $6.39!! Cheaper than a lot of fast food combos and a LOT more food! Seriously a LOT of food! I shared some of mine with hubby and he still has plenty of leftovers for his lunch tomorrow! Everything was hot and fresh and really delicious! I didn't think the General Chicken was very spicy, like advertised but it had a really nice flavor and huge chunks of white meat chicken. And the spring rolls? Oh man these were some of the best spring rolls I've had in a long while! Fresh and delicious and not at all greasy or oily (neither was the egg roll). I had one and let hubby have the other three...not because they weren't good but because I already was getting full! We asked for hot mustard and she must have just mixed it up as she brought it out in two separate bowls. It wasn't really spicy but tasted like she had just mixed it up. Great flavor though and a nice compliment to the spring rolls and egg rolls. All in all, I was super pleased with the service and the food! The place was clean,and we paid $16 for basically three meals (lunch for me once and lunch twice for hubby). Plus it was hot and fresh and extremely delicious and served with a smile? You don't get that with fast food! This may have been a fast food place before and the food come out pretty fast, but it's so much more than that! I absolutely love this little family owned and operated Chinese spot. They have a drive through which is awesome, but on top of that they make everything to order! So although you may wait five or ten minutes at most, you can rest assured that your food will be hot and fresh. It's ran by a mother an daughter and they are always very helpful and pleasant. Their prices CANNOT be beat (seriously, they are super inexpensive) but that doesn't take away from the quality of food as it's always delicious! (Exactly what you'd expect for Americanized Chinese). Somewhere between 2-3 stars for my experience. The good: Convenient location. Service was friendly and the interior was clean, bright and comfortable. Moo goo gai pan was flavorful, and came with both an egg roll and some pork dumplings. She made me a new pot of iced tea rather than serve me the dregs of the pot. The meh: I went specifically for fried rice. Their's turned out to be fluffy and very stickily moist. Not sure how they even get it that way but it was unappealing. The pork dumplings were fried not steamed, but seemed over-greasy and like they'd been frozen before. I'm very concerned to hear that another reviewer was told that all dishes are prepared two days ahead of time and frozen, then delivered to the restaurant. Absolutely love the family that runs this restaurant. Not sure if they are the owners but the lady and her family are so wonderfully friendly and always happy to see you. The food is all cooked fresh, it's fast and there is lots of it and it is cheap. Perfect for anyone on a budget or anyone that wants something fast. The Lucky Wok Chinese Cafe is located in an old Long John Silver location that has been completely remodeled, so it's very clean. The counter staff was friendly and had very good communication skills. The menu is standard Chinese food. The price was very reasonable and compared well to other establishments of this type. I ordered the Hunan Beef platter, the portion was large. The food was hot and well made. I would recommend without hesitation as it's a good value for the money. The place does lack atmosphere but at this price point it is to be expected. Great food at a great price right now. My husband and I decided to try this place after ignoring it for a long time. My sister had tried it based on her coworker's great review, and she said the food was pretty good. So we tried it for a lunch takeout on a Saturday. Tried the drive-thru first since we saw another car there. But nobody came out after waiting a few minutes, so we decided to park and I went in to get the food. The place was bigger inside than it looks from outside. There were a couple of guys sitting there by themselves, comfortably reading books/tablets while eating lunch. I could imagine coming here to eat lunch myself on a work day. We ordered General Chicken for my husband, which he later said was the best General Chicken he had ever had in Clear Lake area, and I ordered a $3.49 vegetable fried rice, which turned out HUGE and gave me at least three meals (I don't eat big meals, but I don't eat that little either). It was definitely a nice surprise, and we will surely come back to try other things. read more

Should be named yucky wok. Great service, best I've seen in a Chinese restaurant so it was a pity the food was bad. General chicken sweet and made me ill. Probably the oil. Fried rice has nothing in it- no peas, carrots, celery, egg even. Egg drop soup and lo mein were ok. But you can't get just shrimp in lo mein or chicken, it is combo. Not a fan. I usually get a nice assortment of Chinese veggies. Not the case here. The order was mostly cabbage. There were some carrots, zucchini, broccoli, a few tiny pieces of corn, mushroom two pieces of water chestnut. The spring roll tasted stale. This place just recently opened. It was where the old Long John Silver was. Most of these "Wok" places are about quantity, not quality. It's Chinese fast food so you can't expect much. If you want "quality" fast food, East Star Chinese Buffet is right across the street. read more

I tried to order General Tso's white meat, but they only serve dark meat. Then I asked about sesame chicken - same thing, only dark meat. The woman working there told me that the dishes are pre-made two days prior, frozen & then delivered to the restaurant. Gross! I was starving, so instead of leaving I ordered beef fried rice.
