This is a casual little family owned Chinese cafe that has been here for forever. The food is fresh, made to order, and tastes like real cooking and not the reheated frozen stuff so many other places serve. I really enjoy their hot and sour soup and beef lo mein, and I tried the chicken pad thai for the first time today and it was delicious. The pan fried dumplings were so good. They were lightly crisped, not greasy, and had a fresh homemade taste and texture. I also love their cheese puffs. My husband always gets the egg drop soup and swears their hot mustard is the best. It clears his sinuses and has him nearly in tears every time, and I love watching his face turn bright red. Portion sizes are generous and the prices are great. The service is always super friendly and welcoming. Everything we have had has tasted fresh and made from scratch. This is a small little restaurant in the shopping strip with Food Town right off Highway 3. There are a few tables to sit inside, and the service is fast and friendly. They have a lunch menu which has several options, including beef, or pork or chicken dishes. I have been here several occasions, and all of the food tasted fresh and good. Most recently I got the tangy spicy beef and it came out hot and fresh. The service was good and the wait time was very reasonable. I had a good experience and will return. I got sweet and sour pork. The crust was tough, not crispy. Pork was tough and chewy. I asked for vegetables to be added to my rice. They acted like they knew what I meant but they charged me for sweet and sour pork and fried rice and for a whole order of fried vegetable rice. Small little Chinese Café in a strip shopping center on the corner of Hwy 3 & El Dorado. This place is close to my house, however, I opt for the fast free delivery quite often. There are a few tables for dine in purposes. The decor is a bit dated and the place just looks old. My go to menu item is the shrimp lo mein. They do not skimp on the shrimp. The kids always go for the orange chicken. They absolutely love it, I'm not a fan due to the breading. The appetizer wings are a household favorite as well. I find the rice to be a bit gummy and does not seem to have much flavor. Delivery is free with a min $15 purchase. Free appetizer with $25 purchase. Delivery time is ok, depends on time ordered. I came here once a long time ago. The fact that I didn't come back must mean something. I came with a friend today. We were the only customers in this quite small place. But, they had a couple of take-out orders. I had General Tso's Chicken. The sauce was good but I expect deep fried batter on the chicken pieces and it wasn't Tso. I guess it was okay considering. My friend had sauteed green beans. He didn't seem to enjoy them. He ate lots of my chicken and left most of his plate. Also, he didn't take a box. For him that's not a positive sign. A man came out of the kitchen area and sat down near us. He and the waiter talked in Chinese throughout our meal. It my opinion people in a business should not carry on conversations in a language customers cannot understand. Exchanging instructions or simple information isn't a problem, but conversing within earshot isn't a good practice. The customers don't know if they are talking about them and laughing. I didn't have that suspicion but in general it's not a good practice. I'm not docking them a star for this but they should reconsider the practice. __ I've eaten out every meal for more than 25 years. read more

I've been coming to JB's pretty much since they opened. We usually eat there or get an order to go, although they do deliver. We live right down the road so it's just quicker for us to do carry-out. The food is consistently good. There may have been a time or two when the food wasn't top-notch but it happened so rarely I truly don't remember it! Selective memory perhaps? lol Wait! I do remember one item...The only thing I've ever ordered that I didn't care for was the tofu; now I love tofu but this was a softer texture tofu than I'm used to so I just know now not to order that. Everything else has been amazing! The service is decent; they've only got a few tables and aren't really staffed for superior service. But the people are always friendly and even though some may not speak the best English it's never been a problem. Even when we've special ordered something, it's always been correct. The only thing about the dining room is that it's usually pretty warm in the summer; I think they keep it that way to keep costs down. Understandable in this economy and as long as the food stays consistently good I will forgive them; I can get it to go and eat at home in my air conditioning! lol It may not be fancy, fine dining but in my book, it's darn good dining! read more

One of the few places that was open on the holiday eves over winter break. Nice portion sizes. Nice, large shrimp come in the shrimp fried rice and lo mein. It was surprising and pleasing. The chicken in the chicken fried rice could have used a hint of oyster sauce or sesame oil as it cooked, alone it was very bland but after a shot of soy sauce it was palatable. The pan fried dumplings are stuffed with filling and crispy as opposed to soggy. Nearly everything I've tried has been yummy without doctoring and everything was inexpensive. This is a family favorite for delivery nights, they are pretty quick usually we get our order within an hour which I don't mind because it's about a fifteen minute drive and the food is always hot when it gets here. We always get the combination lo mein, we love the noodles they use and it is nicely flavored. My favorite thing about this place is the shrimp, most fast food Chinese places use those small and disappointing shrimp but JBs always uses large flavorful shrimp and it really makes all the difference. JB's has been serving the Webster/Clear Lake/Friendswood community for quite a number of years - how many, I'm not exactly sure - well over ten most likely. My spouse and I have been eating their delicious food for about five years . . . and we have NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED. We have probably had JB's deliver dinner to our home on average of once per month for the past five years, and we've eaten in the cafe once. The dine-in experience was interesting . . . the dining room is very small, having only a few tables; it is "old fashioned" - as in the furnishings and decor are very "dated" and rather worn out. However, I would hazard a guess they do not depend on dine-in traffic for the majority of their business. The food we ordered was just as hot and just as fresh, and just as delicious as all the times we had it delivered. The ambiance was rather blah. When we have food delivered, the phone order taker is ALWAYS polite and courteous, and I have spoken to several different individuals over the past five years. Even when it was during the dinner rush, and I could tell they were hyper busy, the order taker always repeated my order back to me, asked what type of rice I wanted (white, brown, or fried), told me my total, and approximately how long it would take for my dinner to be delivered. You could say we are rather in a food rut, but we know what we like and get it every time from JB's: egg rolls, cheese (listed as crab on menu) puffs, Triple Delight, the House Special Lo Mien, and fried rice. My spouse takes dibs on the egg rolls and loves them, and I love those cheese puffs. We split the Triple Delight, which is awesome - just beware of the deadly hot red peppers! There are many big, fresh shrimp, tender, lean beef, and big pieces of tender white meat chicken . . . never any fatty or gristle pieces of meat. Lotsa scallions and onions, the sauce they sauté it all in is really, really flavorful! The fried rice - with rice, eggs, and a few onions - is the best I've ever had . . . and it makes the perfect base for the Triple Delight and that awesome sauce. The House Special Lo Mien is excellent . . . lotsa large, fresh shrimp, jullianed (yeah, I know I butchered the spelling!) pork pieces, and more lean pieces of white meat chicken. Mixed in are scallions, onions, and a little cabbage, too, I think. We get this in place of the free entree' of the General Tso's Chicken (I think, or whatever it is . . . ) for ordering $30.00 or more. We end up with enough food for for two generous meals for two adults who love to eat good food - and JB's has consistently delivered good, delicious, hot, fresh food to my home many, many times for about five years. I hope to be ordering their great food for many more years - as long as we live in the Clear Lake area. I know that small, family-operated restaurants can go away after the founders age, are not able to run the day-to-day operations any longer, and the young ones either cannot or will not keep the business going, for whatever reasons. But, I hope that JB's Chinese Café stays the course for as long as I'm living in Clear Lake City and breathing - I'm that loyal, the JB's is that good! read more

We order delivery from JB's all the time. I think their food might be the best Chinese in the area. It always tastes fresh and they give you a lot of good veggies. Quantity-wise it might be the best deal in the area. We end up eating leftovers for days after we order. The family that owns it is really professional and friendly on the phone and when they deliver. I ordered several entrees along with some egg rolls and steamed dumplings last week, and I was pretty underwhelmed. Things seemed to be oddly seasoned or bland, it was weird. The fried rice seemed to have fennel or five spice in it, which I've never experienced in fried rice and didn't care for, so I ended up not eating it. Everything seemed to need salt, and then the salt didn't didn't seem to help. I got the Singapore Special Noodles and couldn't finish them, there was nothing about them that I liked. I got a couple things with sauteed string beans in them that were okay, but again, but nothing I'd order a second time. I can definitely fix string beans in a skillet a lot better myself. I'm really not a picky eater and can usually find something to like anywhere, so was honestly surprised to find myself so disappointed with this place. I live practically next door and might try them again one day. They do have a very large menu and there's got to be some stuff there that I'll enjoy more next time around.
