The dining area was unique, and fun. The staff and service was friendly. The food was terrible. Ordered a brisket sandwich which came with a side. The brisket was awe full, worst I've ever had in a BBQ pit, tough, flavourless and messy, the bun was stale, two bites and I was done. The potatoes salad it came with was obviously bought at the grocery store. My advice to this place is learn how to smoke brisket, you're not even close to the competition. read more

Food has always been reliable in my experience and generous for the cost. I love their salad as well as the traditional Smokehouse fare and that corn bread is sooo good . My friends and I decided to hit this place up for dinner on our annual vacation weekend together. We weren't disappointed! We ordered the Small feast platter. Pulled pork, half chicken, ribs, brisket, 5 biscuits, pork sausage. Comes with 3 sides, we chose stuffing, potato salad and chili cheese spud. Wow! This joint is fantastic. Great smoked meat selection. I ordered the train wreck sandwich on sour dough. This came with smoked sausage, pulled pork, and beef brisket. The gentleman who runs Lucky's is extremely friendly and gracious! My husband and I went in in person yesterday and he was more than accommodating with our order and request for outdoor seating when it wasn't feasible with our order. Really good. Have never been to the parts of the US where barbecue is a religion, so I cannot judge authenticity by any means, but I can tell you that this little place on a side street outside of the main part of Sechelt serves very tasty food, and the bang for your buck is high. Best brisket I've ever had, by a landslide- that includes at least half a dozen western Canadian BBQ places, plus tasty Chinese and Jewish variants on brisket. This was so tender, smoky, and delicious. The fat melted so wonderfully. Also sampled ribs, rib ends, pulled pork, and chicken wings, plus several sides, and all were good. You can see the smoker chimney out around the side, and see the smoke ring on the brisket and ribs. Nothing is over sauced - the meat is the focal point, though there's certainly no shortage of sauce. If you like a lot of sauce order a side of it. Good house hot sauce too - basic vinegar/chile type but tasty and zingy. Bought a little jar. Friendly efficient server; she was really nice. I'm going to give this place a 2-star rating even though I should really give it a 1-star. But I'll explain in a minute. Here's what you have to know, this place is a Ma and Pa shop staffed by the owners and a couple of youngsters they've hired. They simply cannot execute when it gets busy. Do not, I repeat, do not go there during prime dining times. Setting - 3/5 Quaint, right off the main drag. They've got a parking lot around the side and 4 picnic tables out front. The outside dining area is bordered with some hedges. It's a nice setup, and there's some shade during the dinner hours and a parking lot around the side. Inside could probably seat 4-6 small tables. Relatively clean, but a bit dark inside. They have these metal/steel puzzle things hanging on the wall for patrons to try. Like the ones in Science World. During COVID? No thanks, I'll pass. Service - 0/5 Okay this is the horrible part. We're 3 families and arrived at 6pm and got a table outside no problem. It didn't seem that busy, 3 small parties inside and a couple outside who were closed to finishing their meal. Water came out, so I'm thinking great, they're pretty fast. Since we have a large party, we look at the menu for about 5 minutes and were ready to order but no one's coming out. Then I see people walking in from the street and going inside to do take-out orders at the counter. One large party and one smaller party. I also notice there's supposed to be table settings in the holders on the tables, but I could only see 2 or 3 settings and barely any napkins. We keep looking towards the inside and the dude is seeing us but doesn't come out. This happens many times. He keeps disappearing to the back and then to the inside tables. A third family shows up and they also sit outside. The lady in the family immediately goes inside to order. Finally my friend gets up and goes inside to tell them we're ready to order. But by now, there's at least 3 orders ahead of ours and possibly some phone orders as well. 10 mins later the dude comes out and takes the orders. So at this time, it's 6:45pm. Shortly after, a young girl (13-14ish) comes out and tries to clear one of the picnic table. She can't do it in one shot, so has to go back twice as the plates etc are heavy. I'm guessing this is the daughter. I'm looking inside and hardly anyone is getting any food. Amazingly the family soon got their food. I would estimate they waited 20mins or less. Maybe because they ordered a pizza and two burgers while others like us ordered BBQ? Or maybe they are regular customers. I'm not sure why they got their food so fast compared to everyone else. We all ordered the larger platter items, nothing complicated, just the usual BBQ items. It's 7:45pm now. Our food came out first. The food is luke warm. The 2nd family's food came out 5 mins later. But the 3rd family in the party, their food didn't come out until 25 mins later. I felt really bad for their kids, we tried to give them some of ours but the parents declined saying their food should be coming out soon. Food - 2/5 Ribs were a bit tough or maybe too lean, not fall off the bone as I expected. The flavour was a bit bland though you get 2 different sauces on the side. Sausages, more flavourful but again a bit too lean. Similar to store-bought that you make at home. The pulled pork was okay but not shredded well, there were some large clumps. The chicken wings and drummettes were tender but the flavour was a bit on the sour side. Baked potatoes were a fail, they were not fluffy and even though they're called "loaded" the toppings were sparse, just dusting of bacon bits, cheese and green onions. The flesh stuck to the skin. I'm thinking these were microwaved. The best part was the corn bread. They were delicious. I'm not even a great BBQer but I firmly believe I could have made better BBQ than this place. Maybe because it's Sechelt and there's not much dining options, but I really can't believe so many other diners are giving this place 4-stars or 5-stars. Have they not had good BBQ before? Summary - 2/5 I'm only giving 2 out of 5 because I feel bad for the kids. This is a family business and a negative review will obviously affect their livelihood. But at the end of the day, the owner shouldn't be taking all these orders knowing that he can't execute. He should have asked the takeout people to wait and came to take our order first. And if he had told us it'd be 1.5 to 2hrs before we got our food, we could have went somewhere else. You're better off turning away business than turning out shitty service. read more

As I licked my fingers and dipped into the fingerbowl, I mused how it took 30 years from eating that first pulled pork sandwich in South Carolina for the trend to get here...thank goodness it did. Truthfully I am mostly veggie, but Lucky's has fabulous salads and chicken wings for those not really into the pork. They do their own smoking and barbecue, it's not super fast food (you could order ahead) it's slow down home cookin. Tater salad, slaw and all. I always check in and receive a free cookie. They have frequent specials on their Facebook page. MMMM typing this makes me want to go......... Beer and Ciders, cool bluesy music, nice little hangout atmos too. read more

I give Lucky's Smokehouse 5 stars for food. The incredible rub that is used before smoking imparts a flavor that is just out of this world. The house made barbecue sauce is like crack for carnivores. Absolutely finger-licking delicious. I've enjoyed ribs, chicken and pulled-pork from Lucky's and the flavor was all there. The reason I give this review three stars, and the reason that I've not returned to Lucky's since my last visit nearly a year ago is because my food was handled poorly by the girl behind the counter. Now it's true I didn't say anything at the time and so I take full responsibility for that; I've never been one to make much of a fuss at the time of an incident, rather, think about what I can say or do to remedy a situation...that being said, I had ordered a pulled-pork sandwich with two sides and watched as the girl behind the counter dropped my stuffing on the counter then swoop it up in her hands and put it into the food tray with the sandwich and the cole slaw. I am completely likely to do such a thing at home, with my own food, but at a restaurant I found it quite unappetizing. I didn't eat the stuffing when I got it home, and then wondered how the sandwich was handled behind the scenes in the kitchen. Went there for dinner last night at around 6 pm and have to say it was the worst ribs I have ever had , so dry that the meat was almost as hard as the bones ! I sent them back for a fresher rack but they were just as dry as the other rack also there was absolutely not smoke flavour at all . As I was just passing through Sechelt, so I had asked some locals where was a good place to eat and they suggested Luckys. Something about smoked turkey. Anyways, since I love BBQ it was a no brainer. The location is small but very interesting. Staff were friendly and polite. Smells were mouth watering; so it all shaped up to be a potentially awesome meal. It was anything but. Maybe I hyped it up too much in my head but it was anything but awesome. Maybe "okay" is a better descriptor. Dont get me wrong the portions were good size, food well "cooked", staff great, but the flavor was completely missing. I mean gone. Non-existent. The best part of the meal was the chorizo sausages and for some reason they earily reminded me of Costco preseasoned sausages. Maybe at one point this place was top notch but something is missing from the food. I tried the ribs, pork, biscuit, stuffing, wings, and chilli; a feast for two. They were all bland sadly. Came in here on a Monday around lunchtime and was delighted to see the pulled pork sandwich was on special for just $5. I grabbed two and they were perfect ferry lineup chow about an hour later. The sandwich comes on a bun (I got brown, but white or sourdough are also options) and is comprised of pulled pork, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. I'm a big fan of moist sandwiches, so next time I would definitely ask for an extra little condiment cup of BBQ sauce to help the last few bites of bun go down. Tip: this place is right next door to Hair Matters, which does a lot of wedding-day hair for Sunshine Coast brides. Brides notoriously forget to eat the day of the wedding so: Brides! Not good. I ordered the family meal for pick-up and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. The website says the family pack comes with ribs, a pound of wings and a roasted chicken. But when I got home there were no ribs and instead of chicken wings there was a pile of crumbled dry chicken. Everything was dry and tasteless and not very good.
