I may exaggerate my feelings for exquisite cuisine sometimes but when I say that this bbq pulled pork, add tamarind chicken, and Asian slaw sandwich on a buttery brioche bun was by far the best sandwich I've ever consumed in my life! So delicious. The wait times were seemingly long, however we were on our way to the airport, so my perception of how long it took may be skewed. Their signature beef brisket Benson sandwich is probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in Richmond (heck, maybe the entire GVA!) and I would love to come back to try their other menu items! I've tried their standard Samson sandwich before, but when a friend told me that they had a Social Shopper promotion on sale, I immediately purchased one so I'd have a reason to go back! I tried the Sarah and the Wilbur with a friend. I treated him with the Social Shopper promotion - don't judge. I asked for them to make one with their regular bread, and one with their charcoal-looking one. They were also happy to cut each in half so that I could share with my friend. Sarah: pulled tamarind chicken with aioli, sesame ginger oil & Asian slaw, $9.99 normally. The chicken was very flavourful, so flavourful that I almost thought it was the pulled pork! I loved how the slaw was nice and crunchy too. Wilbur: cumin-spiced pulled pork with aioli & coleslaw, $9.99 normally. This one had a nice smoky flavour that matched with the crunchy coleslaw. Very tasty. Asian Slaw: shredded daikon radish & carrots pickled in rice vinegar, $2.99 normally. The dressing for this slaw reminded me of a ginger dressing often on Japanese salads. Refreshing and a good match with the sandwiches (clearly - they have it in the Sarah!). Strawberry & Mint drink, cold, $2.99 normally. They have the drink mix premade in mason jars, and you basically fill it up yourself with cold water, put on the cap, and shake it to mix. I found that there was enough to split with a friend by pouring it into a cup and adding extra water ;) It's not the most filling meal, but it's definitely tasty. One downside is that I was very thirsty after eating here, and my clothes smelled of oil. However I still wish that I bought more Social Shoppers. It's a great way to get the word out! I bought one for their new downtown location, and I'm hoping that one will be just as good! read more

Very comfy and inviting with a cozy couch and Dr. Seuss books. Im not a burger or sandwhich eater, but this place is an exception! I took a friend of mine here and he was thoroughly impressed with the quality. I have tried Samson, Billie, Sarah, and Wilbur. I have also tried their crisps, their tossed greens and honey ginger tea. For the sandwhiches, I would put Samson, Billie and Wilbur in the top 3. Sarah is like a vietnamese sub but not. I rather just go get a vietnamese sub for half the price elsewhere and it will taste even better. The greens I ate had quinoa and salsa. I chose the house sauce, it was so good! Didn't really like my food today- the Priscilla sandwich and sesame slaw. Didn't like the taste of the dark chicken meat used on the sandwich and the sesame slaw was salty. It had a light curry flavour with a few bites of sliced mushrooms. I think the amount of food was more than enough for someone with a small appetite. So much awesomeness! Definitely messy but super tasty. I also bought a salted caramel brownie ($3.50) but that was underwhelming. Came by on a social shopper deal that included two sandwiches of my choice and two sides. I got their Sarah which was pulled tamarind chicken with radish and carrot slaw on a fibre bun which was absolutely scrumptious. The flavours were prominent but not overbearing and there was plenty of meat on the inside for a fulling sandwich. I also really liked how they used chicken breast as the entire sandwich wasn't too oily. On the other hand, the Samson which is coffee crusted beef brisket, was a bit oilier and messier to eat but given that it is beef brisket, this is expected. The flavours were bursting with this one although the mayo on the bun was the main thing I tasted. The meat was extremely moist but the single leaf of lettuce could not remain crisp among the meat juices making the sandwich a bit too heavy. For sides, we got the chicken noodle soup which was just average, a little too salty, and their fried crisps which my mom LOVED but I found a bit too oily. They were extremely fresh though! Overall, the sandwiches here are great! A good portion to stay full although a bit on the pricier side. I would say that the Sarah was my favourite :) read more

Loved this Richmond gem when it first started with its initial menu but now I love it even more with its expanded menu - which makes sense because its fan base and locations (new location in downtown Vancouver) have also grown. I revisited this unique and gourmet sandwich café today and it was such a treat to see the wide range of sides - from its original Chips to Daily Soup to Coleslaw to Salads. The original chips have the perfect crunch and not too oily and you can dust them with Smokehouse's Smoked Sea Salt or drizzle them with their house-made Ghost Chili Pepper Sauce or Jalapeño Sauce. I saw other people order the coleslaw and it looked fresh and creamy. I ordered the Sarah and my boyfriend had the Samson, both of us tried their new Charcoal bun. The Charcoal bun was made with imported charcoal from Japan, which it supposed to give you more oxygen-rich nutrients and healthy benefits. Regardless, it tasted like normal bread and the texture of the bun was chewy and soft - YUM! And luckily it didn't leave my teeth black! The Sarah was full of tender chicken and topped with sweetly pickled julienned carrots. It was a deliciously saucy and messy burger. My boyfriend really enjoyed the Samson as well, tender and well-flavoured beef brisket with fresh lettuce and red peppers. Of course, I had to pair my burger with a Strawberry and Mint beverage ($2.99), which can be hot or cold and made fizzy +$1. The ingredients come in a mason jar and you just add water and shake to enjoy. The pleasant and subtle taste of strawberry with the mini bits of mint made this drink truly refreshing and I finished my entire mason jar of liquid to the last drop. They also have a spicy Honey Ginger Lemon drink, coffee and kombucha. Super friendly service and we had our burgers made within 8 minutes. Busy during peak times (like lunch) time but when we arrived at 1pm we managed to grab a table. The interior is rustic and cozy, and it makes you feel like you've been transported away from this unassuming Richmond plaza. Plenty of parking and very clean washrooms with good smelling soap. Overall, Smokehouse Sandwich is living up to all it's hype and amazing reviews. Pass the napkins, there's more burgers ready to be eaten! read more

What a torrent of recent reviews, I feel bad just jumping on the bandwagon...like Jaye said, it is definitely the best sandwich joint in Richmond, and can sure rival that of Hubbub and such in Vancouver. Ordered the Benson, now I know why this is the signature! It's not just the deliciousness of the coffee-crusted beef brisket, but the texture, and the bursting of juices on every bite...thank goodness for the over-sized lettuce, wrapping my mouth around that took some time, so to delay devouring this so fast. And quite generous w/ the toppings too. But I think the real secret is their sauce...different, in a yummy way. The chicken with coleslaw & ginger, while good, doesn't stack up to the Benson, won't repeat again. While eating their version of chips, "crisps", probably something just to snack on in between bites, b/c honestly, I didn't feel fulfilled from the Benson. But being a foodie, i just had to try something else, in hindsight, should've ordered a 2nd Benson lol. Also like their artistic decor, it's a lunch date-worthy unique place. The strawberry glaze acting as a sweet bbq sauce. And the aioli, ah man its a good package. I ordered the house made Potato chips on side and they were a nice companion to the meal, although not memorable in their own right. I came here for lunch today and ordered the "Samson" this coffee crusted strawberry glazed brisket (opted to have a salad instead of carbs/bread)... All I can say is, WOW! The salad was topped with some magical sauce and crushed homemade thin cut potato chips. You can order a generous serving of thin cut potato chips on the side for just $2. I also tried their strawberry mint drink (which comes in mason jars, of course) and it was delicious and refreshing. PRICE: Expect to spend about $15 on a sandwich, chips, and a drink. SERVICE: The restaurant is family run and service was very friendly! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the food took a really long time to prepare.
