We were in Ridgefield for a concert and had researched restaurants. We chose the right one! Service was excellent, despite it being a Friday night and crowded. Our waiter never forgot us and still treated us as if we were the only ones in the place. Our drinks and food were delicious. I had the Crepe Normandy - way too much for me to eat, but fabulous, and my husband had a fantastic seafood platter. We also enjoyed fabulous desserts - the creme brulee (my favorite, and I was not disappointed) and my husband has choux pastries filled with ice cream and whipped cream topping - delicious! Came here for Valentine's Day and we were, unfortunately, very disappointed for various reasons. 1) hostess barely greeted us and the service with minimal attention and little emotion continued all night. Our waitress really only came by to collect our order and our payment. 2) the food was very inconsistent. The ravioli was served with a bunch of the pasta water, all of the seafood was REALLY dry, the red snapper especially. Red snapper also came with dry quinoa - the "saffron sauce" Didn't taste like saffron (or much of anything). The chicken was delicious, though! 3) everything took forever. I don't mind a slow pace for dinner but after 2 hours we had to ask for our desserts to go since we had other plans. The desserts we were given to go were not what we ordered 4) adding a required 22% tip is frustrating when the service did not warrant it. One of the best French-inspired eateries in the region!! We continue to have outstanding meals at La Brasserie in Ridgefield. Last night we had seared fois gros with a cranberry compote followed by the best bouillabaisse I have ever had: lobster, clams, shrimp, mussels and fish in a savory broth -- to die for!! Everyone else in our party had steak frites and raved as well about the food and service, both of which were extraordinary! A special shout out to Chris, the maître' d of the establishment who makes dining at La Brasserie a sheer delight! Could not recommend more highly! read more

I finally got around to trying Brasserie Saint Germain today at the end of a summer that kept throwing curveballs my way. All I can say is better late than never, and I look forward to many returns. From the outside, one could easily miss this little spot tucked away in an odd corner, but luckily, I think its reputation precedes itself as the owner is an already established and beloved restaurateur in Ridgefield. I must say that he has truly outdone himself here. Upon stepping inside, you are immediately transported to a cozy, chic French brasserie. The bar, the lounge area, the little street light...it is all so lovely. And everyone is welcoming and warm. For my meal, I ordered the mussels in the saffron sauce, which came with fries and also bread that happened to be warm out of the oven. Everything was delicious, and I enjoyed some wine and a cappuccino as well. I definitely want to try more of the menu which is full of tempting delights. My hunger got the best of me, and I forgot to photograph the food, but I'll include my picture of the lovely interior. I highly recommend Brasserie Saint Germain! Brasserie Saint Germain (BSG) is much of the talent from Sucre Sale which had to move from its former location. New location is much better and they completely transformed the interior of the old Yuan restaurant which had always prioritized take-out and eat-in was good but the interior was a bit of an afterthought. Great - Location, Decor, Staff, Menu, Food, and that wine list!! Some of our old favs are still on the menu with some new additions for a revamped menu. The wine list seems.... much larger? what a selection! The decor inside is adorable, hard to believe it from what it used to be, its really a must visit. Location allows for easy walk along main street before or after dinner, love it. It's a nice room and welcome addition to Ridgefield's somewhat limited scene. The room is nicely decorated and inviting. The food is consistent if a little heavy handed. The prices are fair. That's the good stuff. We've dined here 4 or 5 times. The service is generally good enough if not warm. Last night, very uneven service. Ask to reorder drinks twice, took 15 minutes for someone to come back and take the order. Check arrived and about $50-60 of drinks were added that we never ordered. We brought this to the attention of the server who I think might be an owner. She explained minimally how it happened but offered no apology. I joked that perhaps it called for complimentary round of drinks, she ignored. Not even an offer of a dessert (we didn't order as none were hungry at that point). When you mess up a check like that, of which many people don't even look, a heartfelt apology is minimally required. An offer of a round of drinks or a dessert or 2 would be the correct way of handling your customers. Not sure if we'll return again. read more

Our inaugural dining experience was here on New Year's Eve. The ambience was lively and fun. What I imagine a café in France would be like. The food was delicious. It was a price fix menu for the holiday. My seafood cassoulet was excellent and included jumbo shrimp, monkfish and salmon in a white wine leek sauce. Topping it all off was a fantastic baked Alaska. We will certainly go back for a non-holiday dinner, but the busy evening was handled wonderfully by an excellent waiter. read more

The food!!! Delicious!! I'm a foodie and a chef. My recommendation is an honest one. I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed. We had the escargot, the mussels in saffron cream sauce with the fries and the steak tartare. French bread and butter were also served. All of it fresh, bursting with flavor and above and beyond every expectation we had. We were so full we skipped dessert but we will be back for lunch and many more dinners!! We have been to Brasserie Saint Germain 4 times in the last 2 months and each time we love it more! The first time service was a mess and the crab bisque was subpar. We've ordered the crab bisque since then and it was much better. However, I will say that the soups are my least favorite part of the menu. We've also had the mushroom soup, which was a bit too earthy in flavor, but not bad overall. The dishes that keep us coming back are the Oysters Rockefeller and the Moules a la Moutarde. You must try these bright and lemony oysters. The mustard sauce for the mussels could be a soup. They are also the best Moules Frites I've ever had in my life. I've never been tempted to drink the entire broth with a spoon before. Every single mussel is perfectly cooked - no closed shells. Best Oysters Rockefeller, as well! We've also tried the Moules au Bleu (baked mussels appetizer) and they were truly delicious. However, I would pick the Oysters Rockefeller over them. The Terrine de Foie Gras was outstanding. My toddler loved it, too! Creamy foie gras with fig gam, caramelized onions, and a bit of a sauce. Perfect on their soft toast points. The Steak Frites was excellent! Perfectly cooked and tender. My son devoured the steak as if he hasn't eaten in weeks. He just couldn't get enough! They also have chicken tenders with fries and a ham and cheese crepe for kids that's not listed on the menu. The son loved the chicken tenders almost as much as the steak. The chicken tenders were perfectly cooked - no dry chicken here. For dessert, we love the chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup, chocolate curls, and whipped cream. We sub out the chocolate ice cream for vanilla. It's a perfect end to a delicious meal! Their Creme Brulee is also outstanding - some of the best I've had. Overall, I highly recommend Brasserie Saint Germain. Service is great. Food is exceptional. Amazing wine - I highly recommend the Rose Sancerre. There's parking in front of the restaurant. The decor is quirky, but unique. I really like it! The owner and his wife are charming and experienced restauranteurs. We were fans of his previous Ridgefield eatery. However our first visit to Brasserie Saint Germain was our last. Completely disorganized seating. It was a crowded night and an air of chaos enveloped the place, which is not what you want for dinner. Huge, multiroom restaurants are a taste I have never acquired. I prefer cozy, intimate, and expert. Dining in a warehouse shrinks my appetite. Worse, and I hate to say this as I like the people involved, who chose the "artwork?" Goodness gracious me!!! Remarkably ugly and vulgar--vulgar in the sense of offending good taste, which ought to prevail in the dining environment, especially where health and enjoyment are concerned. Cheap bad art is worse than no art at all. --Can anyone who approved paintings like that be trusted to choose a good piece of fish or cut of meat? I doubt it. With how campy the interior looks like, i didn't expect much...but now this place has definitely become our go to when we're looking for delicious food and drinks. We ordered old-school favorites and couldn't have been happier - escargot (with extra bread for dipping), cassoulet, duck confit, and chocolate mousse. The house special cocktail - Cote d'Azure - was so good we left with the bartender's recipe. The room was masculine and warm; ideal for a cold winter's night. If you're lucky enough to get to Brasserie Saint Germain, you'll know you've hit the jackpot if Chris is your waiter. I had been to BSG 4 times previously and although there were a few glitches, I passed it off to the restaurant just opening. This past Saturday was a disaster. We ordered salad and a main course. After waiting 25 minutes, we asked the waitress what happened to the salad. She responded that the machine was broken and it would be out soon. Everytime we looked for her she was behind the bar. After another 15 minutes I approached the manager who was behind the bar. I told him we were waiting for our salad and the waitress said "I told you the machine was broken". Apparently it was the ticket machine that submits the order to the kitchen. About 5 minutes later the salads came out. We then waited another 20 minutes for our main course. The Risotto was bland and the 1/2 chicken, which I had twice before, was rubbery. The waitress never returned and we were given the bill by another server. The manager never came back to apologize or see how things were. They didn't charge us for the salad but that wasn't the point. Despite having issues with the service (same waitress one time) I recommended this restaurant to all my friends. Last night's experience was unacceptable, especially the indifference and attitude. I'm so disappointed and hope they take my review and other similar comments to improve otherwise I don't think they will survive despite having a good reputation with Sucre Sale. read more

The ambiance set the tone for our anniversary. The restaurant is welcoming. Our service in general was spectacular. My husband had the escargot and I had the salad with the warm goat cheese in puff pastry. The salad dressing was light and delicious. I had the wild caught haddock with ratatouille and homemade chips. The proportion was a little small for the price, and was served a la carte. The haddock was also slightly chewy instead of flaky. The wife had the seafood crepes, and stated that it was very good. Fresh bread was served and replenished. We split the dessert crepes with strawberries and vanilla ice cream. The crepes were a little soggy, and the vanilla ice cream could have been better quality, but otherwise good. The drinks were priced fairly. Service, by Jason, was excellent. Possibly the best French cuisine for the money in the Westchester/Fairfield County area. We ate here for the first time tonight for my mom's birthday, and we will certainly recommend this place to everyone we know. The service is deeply knowledgeable about the food, with one waiter telling us about his travels to France. The chef/owner is from Brittany, an area of France known for its crepes. There are certainly many delicious crepes on the menu. I chose the seafood crepe filled with spinach and white wine sauce. I also had a chance to sample the rack of lamb and the chicken crepe, which were both phenomenal. The only slight disappointment food-wise is that the butter was salted, which is highly unusual for a French restaurant. I'm used to unsalted butter at French restaurants. Bad customer service/Lost our anniversary dinner reservation I don't like giving a bad review. However, the hostess would not allow me to speak to a manager for resolution. We have a suggestion to management: Please provide training to your hostess. She was unprofessional and rude. She should be taught problem solving and handling customers. Her language, dress, and behavior were very casual for what is supposed to be a high end restaurant. Likely, this would have been resolved if the hostess would have tried. (see the details below). Very poor customer service. You lost a customer, and will likely lose more if training is not provided to the hostess. Here are the details: My husband called in on Thursday 12/28/23 to make a reservation for our anniversary and spoke to a hostess. He also received a confirmation text message (see first photo). When we arrived on 01/05/24, the hostess said we did not have a reservation, and was rude. She immediately was defensive, and said he did not speak with her when he called. My husband tried to show the confirmation text, and she refused to look at it. When we asked to speak to a manager, she said she didn't know who the manager was. She finally, after some back and forth, offered us a high top table in the bar area (not we reserved). We chose not to accept, since it was our anniversary dinner and we left to avoid confrontation. We then received a message from the same hostess asking if we were coming (see second and third photos). The lobster bisque was blah, I would not recommend it. The surf and turf, was average. It was not worth the up charge. The deserts were good. The service was basic. Im not sure if it was related to the upfront service charge or not. When we got the main course, no one checked in to see how our meals were. I'm not sure if it's me or not , but I kind of expected my server would have circled back to refill my wine glass. Coffee and tea was offered after our deserts were delivered, I would have expected this to be offered and delivered prior to our desserts. If I had to choose a French restaurant in the future this place may not be the first choice. I gave 3 stars as an average score. read more
