Went here for my bday - haven't been here in probably 15 years when it was under different ownership. I love French food and it's something we don't have very often so I was excited to come back. Unfortunately the food wasn't that great. The service was wonderful and the space hasn't changed (the carpets could probably be changed and the walls that have the quaint murals on them are dirty (splatters of food or drink were on the wall next to where I sat). My escargots and the foie gras were perfect, but the ravioli was overwhelmed by one of the sauces (a gravy type thing underneath). The filet was also very good, but I wouldn't say it was special. My husband got the scallops and there wasn't much of a saffron flavor to the saffron sauce. The worst part was our soufflés were all raw in the centers. We informed our waiter and they removed them from the bill, but overall it wasn't a great dinner, especially for the price. read more

We have not been to this restaurant in over fifty years. That may say it all since it has proved it worth over time. However, we felt the service was overbearing, but many people may appreciate that. The food was very good, but not great for the prices. But you may be paying for the experience rather than the food. The restaurant is the height of elegance and the service although too much for me was impeccable. The clientele is almost all over sixty so it is not clear that this restaurant will withstand the test of time in the 21st century. We have been going to LaCremallere for 30 years, just once or twice per as we live on Long Island NY. It remains excellent and authentically French. The decor is the same and hope they never HAVE to change it since the fire. The service is excellent and friendly and the offerings at lunch are small but all delicious with a nice variety. I think the building is 280 years old, so it is quaint and historical. It is amazing how many French Restaurants are in this area now, while NYC has decreased by the number and Long Island which never had many is down to just about zero. This to us is a destination restaurant and if you haven't tried it now is a nice time as the leaves change color. read more

A decade or two ago this restaurant used to be as good as it gets in suburban French cuisine. On my last visit recently I and my dinner companion were unhappily surprised at its downfall. We had a very poor experience indeed. My meal was frankly inedible, beginning with the appetizer. His meal was only mediocre, overcooked and unappealing. Brown butter sauce on everything made the meals ugly as well as disgusting. They stinted on garnishes. The whole experience was depressing. A $60 steak should be delicious. Tasted more like the dinner you'd get at a 2-star hotel restaurant in Schenectady. Now we know why the place was nearly empty and I mean fewer than 4 tables. Blech! read more

Home run. My wife and I dined here last night with another couple. Classy place to get dressed up for. Converted old farmhouse with wood beamed ceiling and high polished stone floor. The walls are hand painted murals of French people. Menu is straightforward - two courses for $90. Starters we tried were lobster and caviar with Pernod sauce 2 this was unstoppable although not really French. And then everyone else ordered this French pastry with a hole in the middle that they put lobster and other stuff. Delicious. For mains we had filet with foie and this was one of the best cooked filets I've had in a long time and my wife had the sea bass special which was outstanding. Nice wine list which had a surprising number of good French Bordeauxs for $65-90 range. We also started with espresso martinis which were awesome. Desert was crème brûlée and chocolate soufflé. we had dinner here Saturday March 30th. Below is a copy of the email I sent the following day (April 1) It has yet to be responded to. Note this restaurant is now called Le Poisson... Good morning... We dined at Le Poisson this past Saturday evening. To say it was a disappointing experience is an understatement. We arrived (party of 3)on time for our dinner reservation at 7:45. We were told to wait in the salon as our table wasn't ready. We sat and watched and waited while others were seated immediately upon entering. I had to ask about our table and was told soon. We were given complimentary drinks (1 of us doesn't drink). We were finally seated at 8:05 in a banquette covered in crumbs. Our server greeted us with , do you want water. There was never an apology from anyone regarding our wait. We sat for another 20 minutes without menus. We had to ask for them. While the salad was fresh and the oysters were excellent, the lamb was mediocre, the fish was cold. My bouillabaisse was very good but hard to eat without a spoon. We had eaten here previously when it was La Cremallere and it was the complete opposite experience. We aren't sure what changed but in this case (in our experience) change was not for the better read more

Unparalleled eclectic and progressive classic French cuisine... Chef Thomas rotates the menu and never ceases to amaze me with the French classics some of which have a modern spin to them. The wine list boasts many rare once in a lifetime gems at reasonable prices. A true time capsule with its magnificent old world decor and charm. Every trip to La Crem is a unique dining experience with exceptional service. My wife and I eat here regularly and I can truly say that La Cremaillere is consistently excellent week in and week out... contrary to some of the reviews on here that are clearly disingenuous and written by complete imbeciles who don't know a thing about fine dining and real food. read more

The food is great, but it's expensive. I have had several meals there, and the menu has a wide selection of meats, fishes, and salads. In addition, the desserts are divine. My family and I have gone there to celebrate special occasions. I believe the restaurant takes all kinds of credit cards. I also think they have valet parking. We have been here a few times but this was the first time after the pandemic. The food and menu are fantastic and the pace of service is exactly how it should be in a French restaurant at this level. They also serve a lot of classic French dishes (vol au vent and tournedos Rossini for example) that are hard to find. They have a nice wine and digestif list as well. We had a feeling the moment we walked in that we were not going to have the experience we wanted. We should have followed our guts. The service and food are just not at all up to par with what you'd expect of a high end French restaurant with these prices and in this space. I wish I'd tried it with the old owner and chef - I hear it was delightful. It's hard to describe the weirdness here. It's like the staff and ownership had read about French restaurants or seen them in movies, and were trying to mimic it, but were missing the heart of the whole thing. I was so surprised, I went to La Cremaillere for dinner Saturday evening and it wasn't the way it used to be. I ordered the rack of lamb, it was so dry, it was almost in edible! They even had the nerve to put bones in the meat from somewhere else into the lamb--looked like a lollipop. The most delicious part of the rack of lamb are when the juices of fat and bone are combined with the flavors of meat, they meld together while the lamb cooks together! read more

This restaurant has changed a great deal from its previous incarnation, so don't expect things to be exactly the same. The staff: The staff is no longer French, but largely hispanic while the maitre d' is American. This means that the service is actually much quicker than it used to be, but sometimes the waitstaff is not sure what is what on the menu. In the old days you could wait 15-20 minutes just to get a menu, but that's no longer the case. The staff is very polite, friendly, and attentive. The menu: At the moment, the menu is prix fixe, which is not my favorite style. You can order 2 courses (one app, one entree) for $75, three courses (2 apps, one entree) for $85, or four courses (three apps, one entree) for $125. Their specials are at additional cost. Also, if there's a brandy or the like that you want after dinner but don't see it on the menu, be sure to ask. My husband loves Calvados, but didn't see it on the menu, so he asked and they did have it. The food: Excellent. Still traditional French. I had a salad and then duck. My husband had a different salad and then scallops. The "flourless chocolate cake" is pretty much just the largest truffle you have ever seen, so if you don't want something that heavy go for the mousse or one of the soufflés. The price: This is an expensive restaurant. Especially given the limited menu. Our friends were excited to invite me and my wife for a special birthday dinner at La Crémaillère. They fondly remember the restaurant from its previous incarnation and were enticed by the tasting menu advertised on the restaurants website. Unfortunately this dining option was not available on the day of your visit. We picked steak tartare, foie gras and bay scallops as our appetizers; all good and tasty choices but the bread offered before the meal was reminiscent of microwave heated supermarket rolls. We all selected the special off the day veal steak on the bone for our main course. The veal steak turned out to be a mini tomahawk steak of baby beef from an animal that was long weaned from its mother. The sides of potatoes and chanterelle mushrooms must have been forgotten in the pan and were charred beyond recognition. The big surprise came with the bill as this dish carried an unannounced surcharge of $ 35.00 per plate. The great FX Pichler wine from the Austrian Wachovia Valley was served in Rhine wine glasses. The service was attentive without being obstrusive. We elected not to try desert. read more

Back after having been closed for a couple of years. Thankfully the new owners did not change the decor and the food is as good as ever. Jackets for the men are no longer required though most were wearing one. The big change was switching to a fixed price menu. Three different prices depending on whether you order 2,3, or 4 courses. Unfortunately the menu is very limited, perhaps because it just reopened, and some entrees had a $20 supplement. Our server said they plan to expand the menu. Hopefully that will be soon. read more
