This place is the best Mexican restaurant you will ever go to. I personally love the milanesa and the machaca plates. Go with someone that you can split the plates with because you'll want both. The queso fundido con rajas is also amazing. The service is good and the atmosphere is very hole-in-the-wall. It's connected to a bar so make sure you go play pool after eating. Way overrated. An utter disappointment. This place is meant for white folk whom want a little bit of Mexican flavor with their meal. I ordered a machaca Torta which came with fries. I didn't realize French fries were a Mexican staple. The meat was bland, dry and all piled up on one side of my bun. The bun was burnt and I cannot get the taste out of my mouth. I cannot be more disappointed except the knowledge that I won't be able to eat anything better for a while unless I purge my stomach contents of the filth I've just eaten. But then I'd have taste that burnt bun again. read more

We ate here at the end of March, but it was so memorable that my husband has been nagging me to write a review ever since. We were in town for only 2 days, but the food was so good, we ate breakfast here both days. The second day the wait staff greeted us as if we were old friends. We have friends that we visit in El Paso on a regular basis. You can be sure that we will make it a point to eat our breakfasts here. Our breakfasts always started off with a clear chicken broth soup and salsa and chips on the table. The first day we ordered Lucy's Famous Machaca Breakfast and Steak Picado with Eggs. Both were delicious. The Chile con queso on the machaca was not too heavy- just right. The steak picado was beautifully balanced with steak, tomato, onion and chilis. The second morning my husband had the Traditional Mexican Omelette and I had what he had had the day before- the Famous Mechaca Breakfast. It was soooooo good. The Mexican Omelette was finished off with their chili con queso, which made it extra special. I could see why my husband had raved about the Machaca. It was wonderful, but in such a large serving, I couldn't finish it. One thing to note is that they don't bring you a bill at the end of the meal. Our first breakfast turned out to be more leisurely than we anticipated because we kept waiting for the check. You pay at the counter cash register and they pull up your bill there. We had a party of eight, we were seated quickly and order was taken. Only one error was made on a meal, but was quickly corrected. Everyone was pleased with their meals; our granddaughter said their BLT was excellent -- she is very picky. On a recent trip here to visit my Mom, this was the place that I hit the most. Came here three times. For breakfast times mostly. Its kinda easy to miss. It sits on a corner in the end of a small strip mall. A couple of U turns and you are there. Inside, its a cute cafe look, though not overly overdone. If that makes sense. The AC could use a little boost but not unbearable, granted its hot as ba__s in ELP so it probably is unavoidable. I find the barbacoa is perfect. The chorizo and eggs is really good. The mini breakfast special cant be beat. $2.99 This also made of all restaurants I visited on my trip, the most inexpensive when paying for 4 people 3 times a day for 5 days in a row. Might of been why I kept coming back. The staff was friendly and chatty. I had only one hiccup going there. I ordered the caldo talplana soup when the rest ordered regular stuff and it never came out. I ended up getting barbacoa tacos just so we weren't waiting too long after all ate. I came to yelp for some guidance on a great breakfast place to try while visiting family. The two waiters were friendly and helpful and our food was brought out quickly. The food was okay. This establish was ranked #1 for the area on yelp for breakfast or brunch, this isn't the best around though I am sure of it. The new clock restaurant was much better. The salsa had little to no flavor. I got the Barbacoa tacos really craving some good barbacoa. The barbacoa itself wasn't bad. The rice wasn't fully cooked in some areas. Consider this a warning! As a Mexican myself, I felt as though this place disrespected my culture. My grandmother would be LIVID knowing that someone plated me COLD DRY RICE and MICROWAVED BEANS. We started off with Nachos- which anybody can make easily. Well not this place, they served us stale chips with what tasted like MICROWAVED CHEESE. NOTHING about this restaurant felt authentic, and thats coming from someone thats eaten these dishes all their life. So todays service was actually very lousy. My husband and i came in for brunch on a Sunday which was probably not the wisest choice since it was almost packed and we ended up having to use a small table that was right next to the door. It was aweful since it there would be a gust of wind practically every time the door opened and ultimately got a fly in my coffee and black specs in my juice. I ordered the huevos rancheros and he ordered an omelette with just ham and cheese. I forgot to indicate i wanted red sauce for my eggs but my waitress didnt even try to ask me which i wanted neither. Luckily i asked for my toast to be extra toasted, in which she replied, "oh so you dont want torillas?"..... "No" i said. So already we're on a roll for just assuming what i want since i didnt say anything but i guess customer service doesnt need to ask neither. Cuz who needs service like that anyway right? Well in the end, my eggs came back with their queso sauce instead. I asked her if this is what we get if we dont indicate a sauce and she said, "yes, thats what huevos rancheros is..so if you dont say so, we ASSSUME thats what you want" so why does the menu say with OUR CHOICE of either red, green, OR queso? Interesting. My husband didnt get what he ordered even tho he CHOSE AND STATED he only wanted ham and cheese. He got everything instead. Wonderful. When i pointed this out, our waitress tried the excuse again, "well if he didnt say what he wanted, we'll assume thats what you want." I said, he JUST said ham and cheese. Her reply, "oh..." thats it. Not even an apology. Just lousy man. I paid for everything and got outta there. Will not come back. read more
