I have a friend who has utilized the services at Lucy's laundry for the past year. When I asked him how the customer service was he replied so,so. Later I found out why. When you get your clothes back and they smell,it makes you wonder if they washed them or did they not dry them in a timely manner. He had a very nice shirt to get returned to him with a stain that was not on it when it was sent in... When asked Lucy's management replied we washed it in hot water instead of cold we , will pay for the shirt and give you a free washing. Never happened. The owner called and said they would give him 30$ for the shirt that he paid 60$ for and no free washing. That he had found the shirt on e-bay for 30$ . I run my own business and these people need to attend some serious customer service courses. read more

I happened to be in Lucy's the day that Jennifer K. from Fremont, CA had her "tantrum" about not being able to dry her wet and dirty sleeping bags in Lucy's. The policy that "you can dry only if you wash" at Lucy's is clearly posted on the front door as you enter. I suspect that Jennifer K. saw the policy and thought she should be an exception for some reason. She tried every way to pressure, first the attendant, then Ron, the owner, into letting her dry her sleeping bags without washing them first. He was never rude and explained he didn't want the dirt and sand from their wet bags in the dryer. He politely told her there were other laundromats in Fort Bragg where they would be allowed to dry their bags without washing them first He never raised his voice. Jennifer K., must be used to getting her way, because she became really infuriated She was loud and belligerent and began calling the owner names. I felt Ron de-escalated the situation by removing himself for a time and giving this nasty person time to gather herself and leave. Her parting shot was to slam the dryer door as hard as she could. Ron had to test the door of the dryer after she left to see if it was broken. Let me just say that I wanted to speak up and defend Lucy's from Jennifer K.'s barrage of insults that day but thought better of it because I knew I would just open myself up to more of her verbal abuse. I recently moved to Fort Bragg and have tried all of the other laundromats. I come to Lucy's to do my laundry because it is always very clean, the service is always great and the staff is very helpful. I for one appreciate that Ron doesn't allow dirty clothes to be dried in the dryers. I don't want sand or dirt in my clothes if I happen to be the person who has the poor misfortune to use the dryer after someone like Jennifer K. I love this place too! read more

Lucy's is the nicest laundromat in town. There is always an attendant if a machine should give you trouble, they offer free coffee and cookies, and have a clean bathroom. Some of the machines are getting old though, especially the dryers. Plenty of parking unless they're busy, and right next door to the best Mexican food around. read more

HORRIBLE customer service!! I would give zero stars if I could. As a tourist on Christmas Eve in Fort Bragg, I needed to dry some large blankets before heading home. I noticed a sign on their door saying I couldn't use the dryer unless I used their washer. I told the attendant I was from out of town and only needed the dryer. She said I had to use their washer first. After explaining my situation she still said no. I asked if she was sure she wanted to turn away my business and she said yes, they've been turning customers away for years! What kind of company is this??? read more

Lucy's was recommended to us by the innkeeper where we stayed; and by a waitress at a restaurant where we dined. I thank both for their wisdom. Lucy's was the cleanest - and friendliest - laundromat I've seen. First, the music. Second, the free coffee. Third, the camaraderie. And oh, did I mention that the place was spotless and the dryers and washers worked fine. Add to that the good-natured owner, Ron. I am frankly suspicious about the motives of the negative reviewers. If the owner of our high-end inn directs his guests to Lucy's, that ought to tell you something. read more

I have been here a few times, the last time purely out of necessity, and was reminded why I don't come here. There are two rows of standard sized washing machines in the center of the place. They do absolutely nothing to clean clothes, nor do they wring them out fully. The first time this happened, I told the staff and they said, "yeah, those don't work well." I thought, "are you kidding me?!?! So, you know that they have problems, but you're not going to fix it?!?!" The last time, I went with my boyfriend, and before I had a chance to tell him, he put a load in one of those machines. Sure enough, we had to wash the load a second time to get it clean!!! They really don't care about providing a service here. They really just want your money. read more

Ron was running the business while his mother was dying of cancer. The name "Lucy's" came from an affair Ron was having while still married. While he was spending money on the woman, Barbara and Ron named the business after her while there were two babies at home that he never supported. I hope the new owner is doing better, but we would have changed the name. And the only reason that Ron was on site, was because he wanted the money from the sale of the Lucy's Laundry. He hadn't seen his mother in years. We are sure he is far away now from Fort Bragg. The guy is a ron away loser! read more

I moved here 12 months ago and for the first 5 months I used laundromats. It's not the only one in town.....there are at least 2 others. Lucy's is hands down the best. It is immaculately clean and well supervised and not only can you do your own laundry but you can have it done there by staff. Great service, organized, clean and the owner is on the premises. I'm on a road trip, so only used the place once, but found it spotlessly clean. The machines worked and there were a variety of sizes. An attendant was present and working there, so I could ask her questions. I was in and out in no time and was grateful for such a clean and safe place to wash and dry my clothes easily. read more

CLEANEST, BEST LAUNDRY IN TOWN!!!! Lucy's is the choice for locals when it comes to laundromats. They are super clean (even wiping out the washers many times a day and sweeping nearly hourly). They have the most large washers in town, and by far the most dryers. The prices are a little more than Boatyard, but you don't risk losing your items to theft or staining (which happens regularly there). I am grateful to the attendants for their helpful service. When I've forgotten soap, they've given me some. Tennis balls, they have them too. One time I even left my keys in the car and they were awesome, helped me and even made me laugh about it. Please don't be discouraged by the out of town reviews. They are probably people who have never had to go to a laundromat before and don't now what to expect. As for the prices for drop off, the people that I know who use the service say it's comparable to what they paid in the city. read more

My wife and I have been coming to Mendo for years and always grateful that Lucy's is here. I don't understand the negative comments about the attendants or service. I have been using this laundromat for many years and I have never had a problem. The machines, table-tops, and floors are always spotlessly clean, and the staff is always friendly. They have single, double and triple-load washers. That's a good variety for a small-town laundry. I like their music choices, too. I totally respect their dryer policy, that if you didn't wash there, you can't dry there. They are protecting their machines, and their customer's laundry. When someone comes in with wet laundry, who is to say where it got wet, or what it is wet with? Think about that. That policy should give all their customers peace of mind. This morning was great. I was sort of surprised to see such bad reviews for Lucy's. I've grown up in the area and have visited the only three laundry mats in town more times than I can count. Out of those three Lucy's is currently the cleanest, the most maintained and is the only one to have an attendant, (friendly attendant,) working there all day long keeping things tidy AND keeping an eye on your laundry. As for the policy about having to wash your clothes there first in order to use the dryers, that is for the sake of cleanliness and seems like a perfectly reasonable policy to me. They even have coffee in the morning! (I think it's free if you're doing laundry but don't quote me on that one. I do my laundry in the evening.) We are visiting from the UK and were desperate to wash our clothes so visited Lucy's. It is the best laundromat I've ever used. Banks of washers and dryers, so it was very easy to get things done and no waiting for the dryers as I have so often found in other places. Prices seemed fair to us and it was the speediest I've ever done the washing in a laundromat. What I also liked was that it was spotlessly clean, there were useful wheeled trolleys to take the washing around, and a smashing really large table for folding dried washing. The change machine worked flawlessly as did all the machines I used and the instructions were all clear. So we found that the comments made by some previous reviewers seemed unfair to us. We were glad that we had a clear run at the dryers as this is often the worst bottleneck in a laundromat. read more

Rundown, outdated and horrible service. Dryer at home broke so I took 2 loads of just washed laundry to this outdated laundromat. As I'm stuffing my clothes in a dryer the attendant comes to inform me that I have to wash the clothes first. I thought he was making a joke! He goes on to inform me that for "health reasons" they have had a long standing policy that you must wash in their machines before you can dry... Ridiculous! I'm giving 1 star because the guy referred me to the Boatyard Laundromat where "they will let you do that." If you are in Mendocino/Fort Bragg area and have laundry needs go to Boatyard Laundry right at the 1/20 junction. Bigger, updated and an attendant who wants your business! Unbelievably rude. I was in Fort Bragg over the weekend, and I had to do some laundry. I have used Laundromats in the bay area, and the regular-sized machines range from $1.75 in Oakland to $2.25 in Marin county (one of the most expensive places in the country). The regular-sized machines here were $3.25, so I approached the owner and asked why they were so highly-priced. He said with an antagonistic laugh and bright smile, "we're the only laundromat within 100 miles!" He went on to offer that he keeps his laundromat clean and I said it was no cleaner than any of the others I had visited. He gave me a bright smile and simply said, "that's not true!" I replied, "well, yes it is, it is just as clean as any laundromat I go to." He spoke over me as he continued to laugh and give his bright *Mickey Mouse* smile (yes, that bright) and insist, "that's not true! That's not true!". I simply replied "well, I think the truth is in the first thing you said - this is the only laundromat within 100 miles, so it is *take it or leave it*, because we have no alternative." He just laughed and told me I could drive all the way to Evergreen Laundry, about an hour away. I could not believe how much he was enjoying being antagonistic. I later approached him and asked how many minutes one quarter will give you with the dryers. He just laughed, wiggled his hips a few times, gave me his bright, open-mouthed Mickey Mouse smile, and said, "oh, about 4 or 5 minutes" and then he seemed to wait for a reason to break out into laughter. I smiled and said "alright" and walked away and quickly said hello to someone else, and he seemed a bit dismayed that I did not give him more leverage to antagonize me by offering him an upset appearance. Very strange experience. This guy is a swindler, and frankly, immature. read more

Do not go here!! Very hostile and aggressive owner. Went to wash and dry clothes. Quarters got stuck in money part of machine. I taped it to get quarter to come out. Very aggressive man yells at me from across the room to not hit the machine. He then comes over and yells at me some more. Turns out he was the owner! Very hostile and aggressive toward my Mom and I who are both teachers. We took our laundry out of the machine and went elsewhere. We have lived in FB all of our lives and have never been talked to so horribly or had someone be so aggressive with us. If I had been a man, I'm sure that he would not have gotten hostile with me. My husband and I were on a road trip and needed to get some laundry done. We hadn't stayed anywhere long enough to turn in laundry at a hotel and so we thought we'd try their "fluff and fold" service, or whatever it is you call it. I think they have recently started this service. The attendant was very friendly and courteous. He got our clothes finished for us in the promised time. Sadly, he did not have a clue how to fold laundry. It was all a wrinkled mess. I would give them some time to get their act together before having any high expectations. read more

Dishonest business. Went to drop off my kids small load od laundry so we could get to the beach and get clean clothes. We're quoted $15.50 (which was high already). When we went back to retrieve their clothes, SURPRISE, the price went up to $26! What slime balls. read more

I saw five other reviews on this place, all 1 star and felt I had to add my voice to let the public know the truth about Lucy's Laundry. I run a local business in town and use their services weekly for the business as well as for my own personal laundry from time to time. I see the operations quite frequently, not just a one time experience. The staff there is amazing especially considering the typical environment one would find in a public laundromat. I have always found them with a smile on their face and an eagerness to help. It is not just towards me either, being a regular customer, but I see them interact with everyone in the same friendly manner. They have a post board on the back wall will a long list of thanks and appreciation from many satisfied customers and I would recommend reading those reviews to know what Lucy's is really like. I have never had a problem with their equipment but I would imagine that when you have as many machines as they offer, with the small town budgets that us local businesses have to work on, there will be problems from time to time. I would recommend just asking the attendant what machines are best for what you are trying to do. My business uses their wash and fold service and we have never had an issue with wrinkles or stains. If you cant tell by now, I am a huge fan of Lucy's as it has been one of the few business to actually surprise me with their above and beyond service. I admit I have low expectations for any laundromat as I have used some very sketchy places to launder, but Lucy's is really a breath of fresh air for the laundromat experience and I would easily recommend them to anyone. read more

OK, first I want to say I strongly disagree with the poor review I read, which stated unfriendly attendant and only interested in making a buck. Nothing could be more undeserved or further from the truth. I have been doing my laundry there for two years since I moved up to Mendocino from San Francisco, and it is an absolute pleasure doing laundry there. There is ample free parking. The machines are big, numerous and modern. The dryers get your clothes dry quickly, without breaking the bank. There are several spacious folding tables, a change machine that always works (you can get up to 20 bucks of quarters at once). You can purchase detergent, bleach etc. at a fair price. There is always an attendant there (unlike almost all other Laundromats I've frequented) and the attendant is always available, willing to help if you need it, and you can go for a walk or do an errand without having to worry about getting ripped off. It's conveniently located right off the coast highway, with a CVS store, a natural food store and a Mexican restaurant steps away. read more

I am still boycotting Lucy's Laundry and as I do, my decision to do so is continually reaffirmed. For example, today I had a large load of laundry to do and it was covered in saw dust. While most people do not have saw dust covered laundry and would not be bothered by the owner's son while doing their laundry, I know that the owner's son of Lucy's would have looked at me as if I was some very low form of life such as a slimy slug or a maggot when I put my laundry in the machine. I also felt comforted that I was not being recorded by no less than 9 video cameras, as the sign on the window of Lucy's proudly states. While the owner's son may have had to take a whole 50 seconds to sweep up my mess and since he would have been of so very, very , very put out, the competition laundry mat received my business of $23.00 today, instead. Not to mention the $28.00 I spent last week on some of my spring cleaning laundry which also had lots of crumbs that Lucy's son would have simply been horrified to experience. I am not suffering at all by missing out on Lucy's coffee and full time staff. The laundry mat I go to now is also less expensive and has the same type of machines! read more
