My friends, family, and I had a really awesome time at Ludlam Island Brewery when we were visiting Cape May at the end of August. We finished visiting the Cape May Zoo and wanted to find a chill place to eat with booze, food, and good times. Ludlam popped up and we made our way over. This place has a great vibe to it. You walk in and there is a large bar, plenty of tables, and a stage where musicians can jam. You can also head outside (which is what we did) to sit at picnic tables and enjoy the weather. We had our kiddos with us, and being outside was a perfect spot. They had a little sand pit area where all the kids were gathering, playing with one another. There are clearly marked off spots where you can order your booze and order food. There were SO many different types of beer to try so I ordered a flight. Every single beer I tried was absolutely delicious. From their fall beers to their shandys and sours, they were ALL amazing. I brought home their chocolate pumpkin beer and their pink lemonade shandy. I wish I brought more home with me to be honest. The food was really good as well. Lots of BBQ options with different sauces. I had a pulled pork sandwich which was delicious! My friends and I all shared some sides - from the sweet and sour carrots to the spicy shaved broccoli salad, everything was so good. Not a single crumb was left behind. My son had the mac and cheese and my daughter had the chicken tenders. Everyone was happy and left full. That's my idea of a great time! read more

WOODBINE: Ludlam Island Brewery has a new location and a much bigger space and we were thrilled to be invited by Renee, the Marketing Director, to check out all the things this brewery has to offer. One change from their former spot is that leashed and friendly dogs are now only allowed outside, but with a good reason: they now serve food! The outdoor patio is spacious with 3 areas: a sunny spot on the patio with corn hole games, a tented deck with more tables, Adirondack chairs, and some shade, and also an outdoor bar. Have someone go inside to order and choose from a huge beer menu full of variety. We tried all of their featured beers: Oktoberfest, and 3 different pumpkin flavored beers. Did somebody say pumpkin spiced latte beer? You must order the "Becky!" 'Tis the season after all. Uniquely, they also offer cocktails using liquor from local distilleries. For wine lovers, there is a nice selection of red and white from local vineyards, and they also serve up non-alcoholic options. We love having so much to choose from. Food is available with an onsite kitchen serving up BBQ and sandwiches. They have a great merchandise area with t-shirts, beer glasses, and even doggy gifts like a water bowl, bandana, and treats! This was my first time at the new location. The facility is big. They have a pretty cool private party room. They have separate food and beer lines. You have to order at both and find a table. The buzzer lets you know when the food is ready. We wanted to sit under the tent outside but we couldn't figure out an easy way outside. It was quite a maze and no direction. Inside was fine. I hate those small metal stools. We shared a brisket cheesesteak and the wings. And fries. It was too much food for two. The fries were awesome. The wings were whole and cooked perfectly. Crispy and juicy. The dipping sauce was amazing. The cheesesteak was ok. The meat was plentiful. The cheese and meat ratio wasn't great. It was dry. The roll was delicious and held up to the meat. I don't think the sandwich did the brisket justice if that makes sense. read more

Beers were great and food was outstanding! Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance is brew pub 101. Started with some bacon / jalapeño honey thing. Delicious. Also had the pretzel which was to die for. Kid had the pulled pork sandwich which set a new standard for pulled pork sandwiches. Kid in law had the brisket cheesesteak that was just as good. I had the smoked wings. Perfectly crispy, and the various house sauces were outstanding. However, smoked flavor they did not have. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. I know why this place is like home. It's Almost Like Heaven. We were greeted by Lynn who was our bartender extraordinaire. She helped me discover the hidden favorites of here, which was good since I like the whole range of adult beverages. We all had the Salvatore, 547 An unfathomable Stout, Bear Trap, Plato Pink Guava and our expert friend had Just 2 More Miles, dessert was Mashing Pumpkins. Ludlum is a self- serve restaurant and brewery. It features BBQ. Beer lovers can try flights of beer to find their favorites or just try new things without the commitment of ordering a full beer. The food is delicious. I have never been a true BBQ lover but their pulled pork sandwich is off the hook! Everything is Ala cart so you can build the meal that sounds best to you. I will judge you on your sweet potato fries. Here they are also yummy. My husband prefers ribs or wings. There is something for all to enjoy. Finally, the entertainment at Ludlum is always amazing! They have great local musicians play with no extra fees or cover charge. In the summer the music is often outside or both inside and out! I definitely recommend trying this place. Stopped in on our way home from a day at the beach this week. We had never been here before but like trying new beers at breweries. We couldn't easily locate where the front door was from where we pulled in-it's in the front of the building-just park and you'll see it (in case there are trucks blocking the sign). The employee who waited on us was super nice. We each got a flight. It's a small tap room area but even being small we weren't on top of each other and it probably seats appropriately 15 people. They also offer a decent amount of merchandise. Good spot and definitely a good vibe! read more

This brewery is fun and cute, and best of all they have an outdoor beer garden during these unusual pandemic times. It is a bit small though, so get there early in order to secure a spot. Their beer 'Thickie' was totally delicious and a great version of a milkshake IPA. It perfectly captured that peaches and cream type flavor in a beer. They had a fair selection on tap but tons more to order in cans and bottles as well. There's something on the menu for everyone, and I hope to be back to try more in the future. read more

This was our third visit and I couldn't be happier with each experience: fantastic BBQ, solid brews, live music, full bar and both inside & outside spaces! First-off let's talk beer. I really appreciate they brew a variety of styles, so something for everyone, and they nail each one. I'm partial to traditional IPA / West Coast styles so Copper Hat and Fish Alley are, well, right up my alley. (Sorry) If beer is not your thang they have a full bar. OK, the unexpected gem here is the surprisingly tasty BBQ. Everything we've ordered has been just great: wings (best I've had in a long time) pulled pork, ohhh that Carolina Gold sauce, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, The Mess (omg tasty) and then there is the Brisket Cheesesteak...it might just make you rethink your next trip to S Philly! Ludlam Island is a hop, skip, and three miles away from Slack Tide Brewing Company. I made this realization while imbibing there, and I couldn't resist the impromptu added stop. This little microbrewery opened its doors last summer and it sure is popular. The tasting room itself is rather small and set off from the road. If I remember correctly, they have upstairs space as well. Per Jersey regs, you have to do the "tour" of the brewery operations before you can drink. Takes one second. NBD. My friend and I stood at the bar for our fairly quick visit. I had a flight to get a feel for their beers. For a small place, they had a good amount of options, including a kolsch, which I appreciated since I'm not the biggest hophead. I also tried their 547 stout, haystack table sour, and multigrain saison, which packs a punch at 9.25% abv! It's good to have someone else drive if you're gonna try that one (thanks, MK!). I rated all the beers between 3.25 and 3.75, which means I'd generally drink them again but they weren't my all-time favorites. Crowlers are available. Service was fine; curt but not overly friendly. They were busy after all. I kept getting elbowed by the person next to me...that's how tight a fit it was! And it was early afternoon at that. Clearly, they're doing something right and in for a long summer! read more

We came here on a rainy Tuesday afternoon with our friends. The place is easy to find at the end of street with plenty of parking at a warehouse looking place. The brewery is not big, with seatings downstairs and an upstairs loft for additional seating. We got all 8 beers on tap for total of $16. All of the beer were flavorful, our favorite were the unfiltered pale ale and nitro brown ale. Both are solid beers. Although the place is not big, they do have some board games, rubic cubes for fun. Changing table available in the unisex bathroom. It's Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. read more

Stopped in before heading to Sea Isle. The place itself is very small with a similar setup upstairs. However, the place looks very nice inside; clean steel and nice wood accents. The beers I had in my flight and a taste from my wife and friend: Foundation Rye Pale Ale - Good Harry's Coffee Pale Ale - Nice coffee flavor. Very good. East Koast Kölsch - I really enjoyed the crispness of this beer. The Inescapable Worldliness of Mankind Pale Ale - Good with a slight peach flavor Lamplight IPA - Excellent, one of my favorites. Ludlam is one of the friendliest establishments that I have been to! As soon as I walked in, the owner, Billy, greeted me and showed me around. He introduced me to some of the regulars, and we all hung out until closing. I had so much fun at Ludlam! Although it is a relatively small establishment, you can say that smaller is friendlier. The decor is nicely done. They even have a cool upstairs area with separate taps. The locals said that there aren't so many bars in relatively rural Dennis Twp, so that is why Ludlam Island Brewery has become sort of a gathering point. I heard that Tuckahoe Brewery used to be in the same location, and once business grew, they moved to a larger facility in Egg Harbor Twp. I think Billy was very shrewd in selecting this location. He will be able to tap into the business that used to go to Tuckahoe (no pun intended), and he knows that breweries do well there. I know a salon owner in Toms River who did the same thing. She intentionally selected a location where two other salons had opened and flourished before moving to a larger location. Now her business is booming. I think the same will happen to Ludlam. Their beers are better than at most other breweries, too. I really liked their Coffee Pale Ale!! It was creative and original. I also liked how Ludlam partnered with the local coffee roaster next door in order to create it. I was able to get a crowler to go, and I will be able to enjoy it at my leisure. Looks can be deceiving. From the outside it looks like a warehouse, nothing special. Once you get inside you will find it is such a fun warm place. And it's pretty big. Friendly, laidback, and so comfortable. The beer is delicious and always changing. The bartenders are fabulous! Very personable, kind and like to get you exactly the beer you want. The brews on tap are not bad and I had thought of reviewing before but the experience is actually very scary. 2nd time in 2 weeks we have been there where they have tried to overcharge. 2 brew and sixpack takeout. Got a 65$ bill. Wait really? The ... they could not figure out and then they proceded to argue that they needed to figure it out. 30 mins later.....What. Just Check your tab people. Also didnt feel safe there. Our white male server in green shirt appeared to have rabies. Glad he had mask on I suppose. TO ADD INSULT. They have a few of their friends there normally who get free beer and are rude to the customers. I would suggest to avoid unless u get desperate. What a great little brewery. They have a downstairs and a upstairs bar, the upstairs overlooks the operation which is cool. Get here early because it fills up fast, and there is not much seating. Also the downstairs bar had a couple of beers on tap that upstairs did not have. I really enjoyed their rye sour, which was like biting into a piece of rye bread, and refreshing at the same time. The Harry's coffee pale ale was also delicious, and they use the coffee from the shop next door, which is cool (I also may be a bit biased since my name is Harry). Overall some of the better beer I had in the area during my brewery tour/weekend. read more
