Slack Tide Brewing is good regardless what the tide is doing. When I looked for local breweries while visiting our New Jersey friend this place popped up and the beer selection got our attention. The service was friendly and prompt. We loved the decor of which more than the beer will follow me home. Stout flight consisted of Monkey Face w/ Coconur, Monkey Face, Mantees Milk and Datk Stout. My spouse had an Exit 13. Round two had me having a larger Monkey Face Stout and Flounder Pounder for my spouse. There was a food truck outside D's all items were looking tasty. My girlfriend and I have been to almost every brewery in South Jersey, and this is one of our favorites, if that says anything. We don't live close by but always make the pilgrimage when we're down the shore. Off the beaten path, a little inland from the coast. Ample parking. Three seating spaces: a small tasting room, a few high tops in the brewing space, and a partially shaded outdoor space. Only one bathroom although there are a few port potties out back. There is also a food truck out back. We've never ordered from it but it does look delicious. All of this is moot, though, because very soon they are moving to a brand new building that will be triple the size of their current space. I'm looking forward to checking out the new space when it opens. But the beer is the most important part of any review, and I can honestly say I love the beer here. Hopefully you're an IPA fan. We stopped in on Memorial Day Weekend and I counted 10 IPA's on tap (black, session, hazy, American, New England... you name it, they ran the gamut). What they lack in variety of beer genres they make up for in bold and nuanced flavor. Every beer we tried was excellent. They have a well stocked cooler with beer cans to go, including more beers not on tap. They also have special edition bottled beers available too, such as a 13% barley wine if you really want to get wild. Overall, sensational beer, friendly and welcoming employees. Was down in Cape May area and biked along the Middle Township bike path and detoured from the path to the brewery as one of our first stop. Took advantage of the bike racks and were soon sipping on some cold beer in the air conditioning. Being a Tuesday afternoon, it was not to busy. Was at the old building ans the now location is perfect. Plenty of seating both indoors ans outdoors. There was a food truck that was not open during out visit but would have been perfect if it was. Can't fault anyone being I'm sure food Truck is opened based on business and I would have been closed as well. For my first beer, I had the Sand Spike (IPA - Session -4.7% ABV This highly crushable seasonal IPA is aggressively hopped with just 3 varieties throughout the boil, and dry hopped to finish. With a light malt backbone and big hop nose, it's the perfect summertime IPA) and my second beer was a favorite of mine Angry Osprey (IPA - West Coast - 6.8% ABV -This Slack Tide cult classic presents with a clarified copper-amber color. Dry hopped with Citra and Centennial - these hops provide a distinguished pine & citrus flavor to match right up to it's fresh yet spicy aroma. Haven't been to Slack Tide since they first opened and holy cow! Their new tasting room is awesome. Spacious indoor seating with plenty of room at the bar and ample table selection. Love that you can either order at the bar or via your phone. Summers must be awesome here with their outdoor seating! They only have one in the far back of the main room and it may cause people to go to other breweries in the area if they want to watch a game while enjoying their beers. Clean place, beer was decent - bartenders seemed a little miffed we asked for samples. Food truck was Awful (Saturday May 17), wings were under cooked, over priced and Super spicy. When I brought back the 4 of 6 I didn't eat and called them out for selling disgusting food: NO response, obviously Zero pride for their food. And the girl working the cash register was 12 years old - I asked her because she looked so young. I also mentioned to the head bartender my interaction and NO response from him either. Decent beer, locals only vibe. Off the beaten path tucked away off 83 in a shared business complex. After 12-15 visits and rumors of a bigger location, I must say, we're all really looking forward to that new location. The tasting room is very small, and the adjacent garage area and outside spaces are directly next to the dumpsters and portapottys. The smell and lack of breeze during the summer months is awful. The kamikaze flies will have you headed for the takeout fridge. This place needs a few industrial fans running to fend off the smell, bugs, and overall stagnant vibe read more

Some real serious brews they got going down over here. Decided to pay a visit after visiting a distillery. I was planning on visiting another brewery that I've been going to every time I'm down in these parts. I like trying out new places and even though they've been around for a few years, they are new to me. Great beer, great staff and the other customers were a pleasure to chat with. Plan on coming by again on my next visit since I really only tried 1-1/2 flight ( my wife's not a big beer fan so I ended up drinking her half). Took a couple of six packs to bring back north with me. Probably won't last me too long but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll expand their distribution area farther up from Lakewood. Made my first trip to the new Slack Tide the other day. I've been a fan of there since they first opened on Route 83. The inside area is lovely and very spacious. The outside area is also large of plenty of parking, but the seating area could use a little bit of beautification. It's great that there's a food chalk that pulled up shortly after opening to serve what others told me were delicious foods. My disappointment with the person who was working behind the counter. She was not pleasant distractible, and didn't know her beers at all. She was not a good representation of the quality and of the beers and the company. And there is no one else but us and one other couple there when we arrived. I understand it that day there were problems with the list of beers and information but there were no hardcopies to read besides the computerized version. My suggestion is to have more detailed descriptions of the beers available for first timers and long timers to review to decide what they would like to drink, and or buy when visiting. The beers were still great but I've had a much better ambience and treatment on all the other times I've been to Slack Tide. I'm sorry to write this but my companion felt sad with our experience. read more

I always drive the "back way" to the shore to avoid tolls -- Routes 55, 47, 347, 47. Add about a mile left on one more, Route 83, and you'll arrive at Slack Tide. It's not too far from Sea Isle/Avalon, but also not out of the way if you're heading farther south to Wildwood/Cape May. Slack Tide is small but hefty. They have a nice operation going on and their brews are quality. Upon arrival, they'll ask you to do the self-guided "tour," per NJ state regulations. It just takes a minute, and I always use the opportunity to take photos of the brewery's innards. No biggy. My friend and I chose to have a flight standing at the bar. We spoke with the bartender and a local patron for a bit. No one was super friendly or distant. It was obviously just a place to enjoy a beer -- the end. We stayed long enough to get a feel for the place -- I had a flight while my friend tried a small sample and purchased some crowlers (growlers? both?) for her boyfriend. Yes, they have a crowler machine. Love that! I tried (with Untappd ratings): - Free Spool: 3.5 - Portly Mermaid: 4 - Avalon Amber: 3.75 - Prissy Wicks: 3.5 - Bell Buoy: 4 That's to say I enjoyed all the beers to a general "yay, I'm a fan" level, but there weren't any "woohoo!" moments. They were all standard and well-rounded but not too experimental. If I'm in the area again I'll definitely consider a return. I'd love to see them make a berliner, gose, or a light and fruity brew for summer! read more

This brewery is a little hidden gem. I've been to quite a few breweries but this one is now one of my little favorites, here's why...upon arrival there isn't many spaces to park but all social distancing is in place and staff wear masks. I ordered two beers at an extremely reasonable price. A native New Yorker paying $5 for a delicious beer doesn't happen often, but this place made it happen. I got an Angry Osprey and a Schoolie, both were delish but the Schoolie was my favorite. The kid friendly outdoor seating was full of families and friends, inside seating was also available and comfortable. The staff was friendly and prompt. Overall pretty avg brewery. The beers were all good, but nothing stand out. I liked their glass deal, a flight for 10 including the glass, but they made me go up and refill the glass every time, which was a pain since the place was crazy crowded. They also only had 2 bartenders, and ran out of glasses, for the place being packed, I have no clue how this happens, especially on a labor day weekend, they should have been more prepared. Service was painfully slow, and like I said before they ran out of flight and regular glasses, they then began pouring in plastic. A real estate agent did come in with some free pizza in order to advertise which was cool, who doesn't like free pizza. read more

Last weekend I visited Slack Tide as part of my whirlwind brewery tour on South Jersey. So far I have visited 22 of them, and on Yelp I have given every one either 4 or 5 stars. I just love breweries in general because of the friendly atmosphere, the fresh beer, the low cost, and how it's an alternate to a bar. Regrettably, Slack Tide will be the first one that I only give 3 stars. I considered giving them only a 2, but it still is an independently owned brewery, so that means something. It was confusing trying to get inside because there was no entrance sign posted, but there were many doors to chose from on the building. No one greeted me inside. I was surprised that there was no tour available despite me asking specifically for one, and that there was not even a self-guided tour with the help of a brochure. I came excited about Slack Tide, and I wanted to learn all about how those guys started the place. It is also a requirement as part of their license that they give some sort of tour, so I found their refusal to give me a tour very off-putting. Overall, I thought the crowd of people was a little snobby in general who frequent there and not welcoming like most other breweries are. The beers were fresh, but they were nothing special. I liked how they have a crowler machine because that is still relatively rare. But I ended up not buying a crowler because none of the beers wowed me anyway to bring home. If I could give Slack Tide 6 stars I would. Fantastic beers and a wonderful, very friendly volunteer bartender. We did the "slacker" tasting, a 4-beer flight that comes in a logo'd glass that you get to keep. The Sand Spike Session IPA was really, really good. They had 2-3 other IPAs on tap, but the session was our favorite after the tasting so we got a Crowler to go. If you are visiting breweries while vacationing down the shore you have to visit Slack Tide! My one regret is that I cannot remember the name of our bartender, who was incredibly friendly and personable. He made our experience that much more enjoyable because it was obvious he loved his volunteer job and really loved good beer! read more

Love this place. Love their beer. Slack Tide-Will you marry me? The locals know that this is where the good beer is. The parking lot gets full fast, so you may have to park on the street. (You can forgive their, tiny parking lot because they are land-locked.) I expect that we will see this brewery move or get a second location. Simply put-Slack Tide produces amazing beer at affordable prices. They are nice people and serve your beer in a glass, unless you take your beer into the side-beer garden. I'm officially a "Slacker" because they are my go-to brewery in South Jersey. Don't feel like hanging out in the taproom? They have a fridge full of most of what they brew and if it ain't in there, they will whip up a crowler for you of anything on tap. Beers are good but the tasting room is very small. Prices are fair, 8$ for a flight or 10$ for a flight and a pint glass. I personally like IPAs and they had four on tap today which was great for me. This place was great!! The only problem I have with it is that I have to drive there so you always have to have a DD either way these beers are DELICIOUS! And not to mention the staff are so friendly and inviting. Plus the other people drinking there were also so friendly! We met a guy from Cali who wants to open his own brewery in North Carolina and another local guy. Everyone was so friendly and inviting. I would go back just for that! And back to the beers, DELICIOUS! And they are somehow super smooth but pretty high alcohol content. So it's a win/win.
