We could not help but notice the gorgeous bar to the right as soon as we walked in as well as the beautiful woodwork. We were greeted immediately, and upon sitting, our drink order was taken. There is a full service bar, including beer on draft! My husband ordered the Lasagna Classico and I the Pomodoro with grilled chicken and angel hair pasta. Hot rolls and REAL butter were brought to the table almost as soon as we sat down followed by both entrees after about a fifteen minute wait. The entrees were steaming hot and fresh and after our first taste, declared delicious. The waitstaff was attentive and efficient. We ended the meal by sharing a piece of tiramisu, which was excellent as well. There is free parking in a four story city garage literally diagonal across from the restaurant which made the location perfect.

Normally my wife and I look forward to eating here, but today was a dud. Il Posto failed on both…read moreservice and food quality today. Our server was far less than charming and worse, was incompetent. I truly wondered if she were somehow impaired. She didn't respond when we ordered and seemed put-out when we asked if she understood. Turned out the wine my wife ordered was no longer available (so why was it still on your menu?). My wife made an alternate order, but instead of getting a glass of what she ordered, the village idiot came back with a bottle totally unrelated to what my ordered and offered that. My wife politely refused, I got my beer and my wife got nothing. OK, maybe they needed to open a bottle and it would be out soon. But no. The so called server didn't reappear until our food was ready. At that point, my wife asked about her wine again. The waitress, Andrea, then said, "I thought you said no to wine". Well, my wife did finally get her wine after the fight. Now for the food. In the past, it has always been excellent. But today's offering was sub-standard. We both ordered the chicken Parmesan from the lunch menu. The menu said the chicken was hand breaded. It was not and the marinara was basically tomato sauce with with bits of tomato in it. By far the worst food we've ever been served there. Il Posto, today you failed miserably. And I would remind you that you have two restaurants on either side of you with excellent chefs. You may want to keep that in mind before serving us Stouffers to dine on.

I came to pick up a to-go order and asked if there was plasticware in the bag. The guy told me " no we don't do that." Why you wouldn't naturally provide the basic utensils is beyond me. So I hunted the plasticware down and added it. I believe at one point this place cared about service and quality. But maybe that time is gone. The order was smashed into the bag and sauce was dripping off the side. The last time I had a craving for calamari, it tasted soggy and strange. It tasted as if it had been reheated in a microwave. Why is there no consistency, and why have they decided to give up on customer service? I hope they can get their act together. I will give them one more shot and update soon.

Bread is brought to the table with oil and spices when you're seated. The bread itself seemed like standard grocery store bread and was room temperature, which was a bit underwhelming. The food came out very quickly, which is convenient but it did feel like the dishes were prepared more for speed than detail. Most plates were fairly oily and heavy on the cheese. Prices are reasonable, and the service was efficient, so we were in and out quickly. While it wasn't a bad experience overall, it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us and it's probably not a place we'd return to. That said, I can see how it might appeal to those looking for a quick affordable Italian meal.

i've been here many times, one of the best spots for dinner in castroville! the service was perfect…read more(attentive but also gave me the time to enjoy my dinner) so thank you dana! personally i really enjoy the spinach & artichoke dip and the raspberry carnitas for appetizers. today i tried the pecan crusted catfish which was incredible, definitely hot and fresh! i got the mash potatoes and green beans .. they both hit the spot! lastly dana recommended the crème brûlée (a new edition) and it was a fabulous end to the meal! i think it was a raspberry compote on top and i loved it, will definitely be back! also i think they recently upgraded to having a liquor license so you can get anything to drink now! and side note, dog friendly on the patio!
