Used to like the place until last night, went to an informal event and just through on some jeans and a hoodie because its always cold in there. So long story short, they worried more about the white dude that wanted coffee, the old white lady that wanted sweet tea, I ordered a beer first and then asked for a sweet tea, saw the beer but never saw anything else because he was to worried about the the one dressed like pros, I'm not flashy and jeans and tshirt and hoodie are me, but you messed up, If your anything other than the lighter hue stay away because the employees and the management treat you like your a POS. The lunch specials are an excellent deal here and the food is delicious. I love the steak and cheese with fries. My kids ordered a large white pizza. The staff is quick getting your drinks and taking your order as well. The inside is decorated nice and is a great place to relax and enjoy lunch or dinner. Placed an order for takeout and the ordering process was completed correctly. We ordered lasagna, lobster ravioli, the Luigi special pizza, mozzarella sticks, and calamari. At first, I was concerned that we would not have enough food but it was perfect portion. The calamari and mozzarella sticks were delicious. The pizza and lasagna were good too. Delicious, huge portions. I got the eggplant parm with a side cup of Alfredo sauce, and a tiramisu to go. The food came out HOT- I had to wait a second for it to cool down, which I don't think I've ever experienced before. It was so cheesy and delicious. The tiramisu is not the frozen brick you get at other places. It's perfect to eat in bed back home. The server was also polite and accurate. Definitely stop here for a meal. read more

This is just a heads up for businesses to KEEP THEIR WEBSITE PAGES CURRENT!!! Please. We've been enjoying Luigi's "Seafood Pizza" as our Christmas Eve dinner for an eternity. Last year it wasn't on the menu, but the nice gentleman on the phone said that they could make one for me anyway, which was genuinely appreciated. This year - the "photo" menu on their website showed the seafood pizza returned to the fold, so I was excited to be able to order it. However, the guy answering the phone told me to hold a moment, & then came back to tell me that they no longer offer it. SO WHY IS IT STILL ON THE ONLINE MENU????? This is an unfortunate problem with MANY restaurants. They change things around but can't be bothered updating their websites. Either take the time to do updates or don't do a website at all. Bottom Line: Not that it affected Luigi's bottom line at all, but we ended up getting our Christmas Eve pizza elsewhere. read more

I have lived in culpeper for five years and had never been so we went to check it out. We were more than a little disappointed. Pros: good attentive service and a clean restaurant. Meal portions were large without being excessive Cons: their bread was nothing more than a martins potato hamburger bun with some garlic on it. At an Italian restaurant I would expect at least some version of Italian bread. The sauce tasted like they had opened a jar of Ragu and poured it on the spaghetti. Overall, I feel that for the price we paid, we could recreate a better version of the food at home (homemade sauce, real Italian bread, large portions, etc). Not worth a return trip read more

I've lived in Culpeper for 3 years now and have been meaning to go to Luigi's but simply haven't had a chance. I understand that this is Culpeper and not a big city or a place you would expect to find a 5 star Italian restaurant. My son had asked to go to an Italian restaurant for his birthday so here we are. As much as I hate to say it, the food all around was extremely disappointing. The staff there were great. Nice, attentive, and professional. The setting and aesthetic was decent. First, the bread, it tasted like maybe it was left out too long, slightly stale like from a cheap grocery store bakery off the Day old shelf. The Bruschetta was the same bread with obviously canned crushed tomatoes on top. Not toasted or anything. The bread should be slices of toasted rustic bread seasoned with high-quality olive oil, garlic, and salt. The bread for bruschetta is traditionally thicker and has larger slices that are grilled for extra flavor. The topping should be something along the lines of diced tomato, minced garlic, onions, fresh-cut basil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Understanding most restaurants have a variation of their own. It was none of that, just bread with crushed tomatoes. Next was the Veal Parmigiana. Now be mindful that they have it on the menu as veal scallopini parmigiana. The scallopini typically means that the veal is pounded thin. I was expecting that. However it was warm, not hot, not breaded nor was it really seasoned. The tomato sauce lacked inspiration and was plain with sliced parmesan barely melted on. The spaghetti was not cooked properly, watery, and also lacked inspiration. The presentation was lacking as was the taste. My son (16) had the lasagna. He took two bites and gave me a look that spoke loudly of what he thought. Understand as you read this that I am a bit of a snob concerning food and that has passed to my children. They do not like Stouffer's or other frozen lasagnas. He told me he preferred the frozen lasagna over what he was served. Myself and two of my sons the bill was roughly $54. I believe they could made some adjustments and definitely increase the quality of the food. I unfortunately have had better at a 24 hour diner. Would love to see them simply work on preparation and presentation. I gave 3 stars because they were so nice. The quality of the food was really found wanting. read more

There are no nice hotels around, so I figured I wouldn't give this place my credit card info = correct choice #1! The guy on the phone said it would be 20-25 minutes. I said I would wait in the lobby. I went down to the lobby after 10 minutes. BIG MISTAKE. I called 45 minutes after the guy said "20-25 minutes," and he said he was JUST LEAVING the restaurant!!! What the hell, dude? I have work to do. I dont care if am in the middle of nowhere, I have a life. Maybe you don't, but I have responsibilities. Almost an hour for delivery from a restaurant that is only a mile away is a bit ridiculous. I still tipped, but I strongly considered not doing so. Food: Bruschetta - good. Refreshing. Crunchy. Correct choice #2 Spinach & artichoke dip - strange. Wouldn't recommend; however, they gave me enough to feed a family of 4. Chicken Parmesan - a far cry from authentic Italian. Edible, but gross fat spaghetti was the pasta. Angel hair, pretty please. Or literally any other type of pasta. All in all, if I had to be in this small town again, I'd get Domino's. We came in around 3pm for a late lunch, ordered a 16" cheese pizza, chicken primavera, and fettuccine Alfredo. Service was excellent, our server was attentive, but the food was lacking except for the pizza. Pizza came out nice and hot, cheese was gooey and it was toasty from tip to crust, can't complain there, but their pasta dishes needs work. The chicken primavera had barely any pasta in it, it was full of chicken, broccoli, carrot strips that looked like they didn't shave off so it was black, very disappointing. The salad that came with that dish was meh, looked like left over salad from somewhere. The hub had the fettuccine Alfredo and that was ok. He got the chicken soup with it and he said it was decent. The bread that came out for our meal was nasty, the slices of bread were not toasted and the longer bread was hard like anything, nothing like olive garden. read more

A friendly and attentive staff headline your experience at Luigi's. We brought a big group in for a family night out and were welcomed and accommodated. The menu features Italian classics, including more casual fare like pizza. Luigi's gives guests a baskets of garlic bread and breadsticks. The bread is fresh but he flavor is lacking. For the main course, I had the Veal Parmigiana and found the veal to be short on flavor (frozen); however, it covered with a tasty sauce. Portions were fair, though not as large as you see in some Italian establishments. The accompanying salad was fresh, though very basic. He fresh cheese on top was the lone highlight. I sampled pizza from the kids table and found it to be fresh and relatively tasty. Toppings were properly proportioned, so the pizza should be a safe bet. There is a full bar which is a plus. One more shout out to the wonderful staff who effortlessly went out of the way to ensure our party had a positive experience. This is important to know as it can make a so-so meal a slightly above average experience. read more

This is very hard for me to do.Covid has hit us all very hard especially the food/ Customer service industries (mom & pop owned places).My Husband & I stopped in for dinner the other night after hours on the road (passing through lets eat at local eatery) the reviews on google gave four stars and seeing that on a Sunday at the hour we came through there wasn't much open besides chain fast food and well the large chains don't need the support from the community quite as badly so we decided on Luigi's. Know this now before I proceed with the review. First off this review is not for the wait staff. They were amazing, attentive, beyond friendly, professional and ready to help anyway possible (even behind a mask (Damned Covid) you could tell the sincerity of the staff.) However it is a review of the food, the star of any restaurant. I am trying to be as fair as I can be because I know times are extremely tough. So with out any further gilding of the lily here is the most honest review I can give.Pro: The menu is not to large & gives just the right amount of options (even has a good selection of vegetarian options).Con: Wasn't much to choose from to replace the meal I ended up sending back. My husband and I ordered from the Chefs specialty portion of the menu all of the meals in this category come with choice of soup/salad pasta & fresh bread.I ordered from the 3 options I had narrowed down & after consulting our waiter (who was subtly trying to sway me from my original order) he was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I chose the soup of the day which was chicken noodle & my husband chose the salad with Italian dressing. We both ordered different veal.Pro: My soup & his salad came out very quickly. My soup was in a rather large bowl & there was a good amount of it. My husbands salad was also a very generous portion & a good mix of greens very colorful salad crisp & fresh. Cons: My soup was pretty much a Hodge bodge of "we need to use these ingredients because its what we have and we need to use um-up."( again I know times are hard & I am not trying to be unfair) there were 2 different types of carrots in the soup large chunks of round cut carrots that had been wedged down & thin strips of matchstick carrots (that usually are for salads) the rest of the vegetables in the soup were of all sorts of different cut sizes nothing uniformed so some were crunchy and other bits soggy mush. The penne pasta in the soup was over done & just falling apart in the bowl. The chicken was in all sorts of random chunks sizes/shredded nature the larger chunks dry and tough.(again probably used from being previously prepped for something else) All of this is not so bad it was the actual broth that took it almost to the point of not being edible. Broth was in best an extreme amount of Vinegar & Lemon like someone used nothing but these two ingredients & nothing else. I added black pepper & ate it anyway as it was barley tolerable & I was hangry (not really angry was just real hungry). You could not taste any other ingredients in the soup other than the very bitter broth. Pro: My husband ordered the Veal Tuscany which is Scallopini Veal with ham, cheese, mushrooms & red peppers in a Marinara Sauce. I ordered the Veal Picata which I have had all over to include in Greece (Italy's Cousin in some aspects just don't tell either side I said that lol)& absolutely love this dish. Our orders came out very quickly very large portions. Cons: here is where things get wretchedly bad (food wise). Lets start with my husbands dish. Marinara sauce super watery & weirdly chunky at the same time. Penne noodles mushy among others that were al dente flavor of the Marinara was not even Prego quality. The veal was very grey and tough looking as though it had been frozen & then either boiled or heated up in the microwave in its freezer bag. The ham portion two slices of store bought ham deli meat. The meal was still edible so my husband ate it. However my meal was not fit for consumption... it came out in a large bowl swimming in its BROTH not sauce & way to many capers (the penne pasta was as if someone had attempted to drown the pasta in the liquid and pulled it out just before all hope was lost & now the pasta just lay there helplessly giving up in the shallow end of the pool.) The veal looked as if it shared the same fate with my husbands veal. Appearance was shocking but I mustered up my courage & convinced myself my eyes could be lying to me. My tongue & stomach reassured me that "negative big bravo its that bad" one bite of past and veal and I looked at my Husband and muttered "Holy S*%$" but not in a good way."That bad?" he asked. " it's like the whole meal has gone rancid & drowned in lemon/Vinegar bath." I had to send it back & get something else. I feel horrible creating this review but hope it helps. The waiter was great & he took the meal off since I only took 1 bite I just simply couldn't do eat it. The replacement meal was edible at best. read more

The wife and I really liked the food, we lived in Naples Italy for three years and the seasoning is very close to true Italian...I had the Penne Alla Napoli and the wife had, Aglio e Olio. I think people may expect an Olive Garden taste which isn't really close to true Napoli seasoning. My only complaint is the bread sticks, wish they would just buy fresh Italian bread and serve that instead. The service was great very friendly and attentive. Overall nice little restaurant, probably could use some updates to the decor, but there again looks like almost every Naples restaurant. Today I ordered the minestrone and it was the most atrocious bilge I have ever seen described as soup. The pale gray broth contained macaroni, slivers of onion, cabbage and yellowed broccoli. Ate here last night and food was a disaster! We had chicken piccata, oil was thin and watery. Caprese for appetizer was a slice of tomato with 2-3 mozzarella balls and some pesto sauce resting on some shredded lettuce! Never heard of pesto over balsamic! This is a good family Italian style restaurant. They have a wide variety of of appetizer and entree options to choose from. Our favorite was the Gnocchi and Minnicoti. Their fried calamari was a bit too dry and its sauce could have used a little something else. Their burchetta on the other hand was delicious. Overall customer service was good. Portion sizes were pretty decent for the price. Probably shareable among two people if you don't have a big appetite. read more
