Lulu Nails is a salon located in Del Mar, on the ground floor level, doors away from HeyTea and Miniso, with plenty of free parking steps away. This shop offers various services including nails. I was in the area last week and wanted a spa gel mani and pedi. I was immediately greeted by the manager it the front. I told her what I wanted and she was able to accommodate Me and offered to seat Me towards the back of the salon, but as I walked inside, it felt stuffy and hotter, so I turned around about to walk out. Then so was offered the front spa seat and two staffers worked on my natural nail french tip gel mani and pedi. It was my first visit here so I could close my eyes and relax as I had to monitor how things were being done. I am particular about cleanliness, and so glad each tech wore gloves and a face mask. I instructed them to be extra gentle and don't want too much filling on my fragile nail bed. For almost three months I had to wait to grow my nails after accidentally slamming the glass sliding doors on my fingers. It hurt like Hell, and no blood, just bruising and days later my nails fall off, obviously I injured my fingers and nails internally. Fast forward, after three months of tender loving care and lots of vitamins, my nails have grown back to almost normal. I explained all this to the two nail techs, they listened intently and now understood why I was so sensitive to any filing or grinding. After my mani pedi spa session, I was uncomfortable and my back aches. The mani mail tech had me twisted to do my nails, she should have done one hand and then she should have moved to the other side and do the other hand and not have Me lean, hence my backached :( All throughout my session, both techs chatted in their native language of Vietnamese and although they were whispering I can still hear it and it was annoying and unprofessional, they should know that it's rude, yet they All do :( I think that if I summoned the manager, they might have received a verbal lashing in their vernacular, so I kept my cool and let they finish the service. After my monitoring their work from start to finish, my french tip gel mani turned out decent, fingers crossed and hope it lasts 3 weeks... my pedi was just okay, I always prefer more cuticles removed and perfect shaping around the arches and edges, the results were not perfect, I had to perfect it at home later. I left this salon with imperfect french gel mani pedi and a backache, not a spa quality experience. I'm still in the quest for that Nirvana spa experience here in the SD area, sadly this place is not that but has potential with improvements on the matters I mentioned. read more

Be cautious if you come here. - I had been a customer for about a year and received around five services. I originally liked this salon for its massage chairs and friendly owner. Unfortunately, my last two visits have left me very disappointed. June 2025: I got a pedicure here and the pedicurist used tools very aggressively -- I even said "ouch" a few times. The polish looked nice, but within hours my right big toe became red, swollen, and tender to the touch. Walking and wearing shoes was painful for two weeks. My symptoms were consistent with paronychia -- a nail fold infection that can happen when the skin is cut or damaged. When I called the salon, they said it "happens sometimes" and suggested soaking in salt water. August 8, 2025: I returned, assuming the first time was a fluke. I even asked the same pedicurist to be extra gentle. Unfortunately, by nightfall, my left toe was red, sore, and difficult to walk on. Looking closely, I could see where the skin had been cut along the edge of the nail. I went back two days later as it got worse to speak with the owner privately, away from other guests, and explained what happened. She suggested it was due to an ingrown toenail (something I've never had) and said she experiences redness, too. I asked for a refund. She hesitantly but ultimately agreed -- but insisted they remove my nail polish first as part of their refund policy. She ushered the nail technician that helped me previously - and she came with acetone and a cotton ball in hand. I was shocked. Given my toe was in pain and possibly infected, I didn't want anyone touching it. The owner ultimately processed the refund without removing the polish, but the interaction left me feeling blamed rather than cared for. The issue for me wasn't just the injury -- it was the way it was handled. A simple apology, some acknowledgment that the tools may have been used too harshly, or a gesture to make things right would have gone a long way. Instead, I left feeling dismissed and unsupported as a loyal customer. read more

I haven't had a mani or pedi in years and while on vacation I saw this place and thought I would try it. It is very busy, so I thought might be a sign that it's a very good place! I had a very mixed experience here. An older gentleman named John did my pedi. He talked to me a little, but not very much. He was more straight to the point to figure out what I wanted, and I appreciated that he was focused on doing a good job. I chose a basic package with callus removal and then decided to do gel so it was $62 + tip for his service. My feet felt pampered when he was done and I felt like he did a good job. I would be willing to come back for this. My mani is what leaves me hesitant to come back. After John was done, a lady came to do my mani (I'm going to keep her name anonymous as to not call her out). I chose the basic package and the dip style. I was informed that this would be $50 because my nails are short. I didn't choose anything fancy, it was simple and one color) In the beginning I didn't even fully know what I could choose from because the original color I chose was not available in the dip, so the lady took some time to help me find the right color. There was no soaking my nail bed or cuticles. My cuticles for my hands did not get any care or trim before starting. She went straight into filing my nails and then painting coats for the dip. I enjoyed watching her do magic on my nails especially since I have not had a mani in 8 years! But while being so distracted watching and talking with her, I did not realize that without my cuticles care it would probably not look so cute while my nails begin to grow out later on. I also felt like she skipped my basic care for the mani package. I did not get my hands soaked or a mini massage. Anyways... the end result looked good but I am not sure how it will look while my nails get longer. There was also some polish stuck to my pinky that I could not get off. Pic attached. My cuticles were flooded with polish. In addition, she didn't clean under my nails and it also got flooded with polish so I had to spend about 15 minutes cleaning under my nails when I got home. I think, if I ever come back I might skip the mani packages. She was sweet and I enjoyed talking to her but spending $50 + tip I expect a little more attention to detail. The total I spent was $112 for the services and I tipped $25 so the total amount spend was $137. I went for a pedicure today and while the pedi was fine and technician was nice...I have a high degree of suspicion that the technician used the same towel to dry my legs and feet on other clients. I say that because she had it crumpled on the bottom of her cart and when we were done she stuffed that same towel back on the bottom of her cart instead of throwing it in the hamper she brought out to throw the other dirty towels into. Really bad optics and insulting that they wouldn't think people would notice. Who knows what other corners are cut with cleanliness. I then saw her with another client and the same towels were still on the bottom of her cart. To me that is disgusting and unsanitary and I will not be returning. This happens when techs drill too far into the nail bed in areas and leave red rings and spots on the nails. I also can visibly see my nails indented near the top of my nail where the dril went deep. Asked for a manicure multiple times before the service, when I called and booked for the service, yet I was halfway through my service and I inquired asking if they were planning on cutting my cuticles having my hands soak in the warm water etc (normal manicure things) yet nail tech told me she "forgot ".
