I LOVE LuLu's and have been to all four of their locations. This Menlo Park locale is one of my two favourites of their four stations. The main reason why I rank LuLu's on the Alameda as one of their top spots is definitely because of their venue. The eatery has a full indoor dining room with self-serve salsa bar as well as patio seating with umbrellas at each table, just steps away from the front door. Free parking is also available in the small private lot. I have never visited to find the space dirty or in disarray. I'm not big into chain restaurants nor Americanized ethnic fare, but despite their food being a bit gringo style and DJ's complaint that their Chile Relleno Super Burrito is expensive ($19.00), LuLu's Super Burrito ($13.50 on January 27, 2023, now $16.50) with Albañil (Ground beef, chorizo, bacon, onion & pasilla pepper), traditional red Mexican Rice and refried beans, minus the guacamole is so unforgettably delicious that I keep coming back to satisfy my craving. Yes, I do crave this burrito quite a bit! Their menu also offers a Mini Super Burritos (was $7.25 on January 27, 2023 and is now $8.50) which is an option that you don't see around much anywhere else or at all. I was also able to order Arroz con Leche from here once, which made me happy. Crossing fingers that they will consider adding the creamy dessert as a permanent item on their menu. Service is fair to good. No complaints, but no accolades, either. I do wish that they would stay open later, though. read more

We have been coming here for 10 years. Tonight I called to place an order. The man who answered put me on hold immediately and after 6 1/2 minutes the phone call was cut off. When I arrived, I told the woman at the cash register what had happened and she told me she never heard the phone ring. I ordered a large chopped salad with chicken, and the salad looks smaller than it has been in the past, and there was no evidence of chicken. I took the salad back in, and the person behind the counter turned the plastic box upside down, and pointed out three small fragments of chicken. Very disappointing service, and unapologetic. I don't think we'll be back for a while. It turns out that Lutticken's across the street has a pretty great selection of Mexican foods at reasonable prices, with kind and courteous service. Update: when I got home, I separated all of the chicken fragments from the salad and weighed them. There were 3 1/2 ounces of chicken fragments, for about $3.50 including tax and packaging fee. This means they charge $16/lb for tiny dry chicken bits. read more

This place has usually been very busy when I drove past, but I found it between mealtimes when it was actually possible to find a parking space. It had tamales, an iffy question for most taquerias, so I ordered that. They were basically OK, too much masa and not enough meat, at least the one I ate at the time was. We have been going to Lulu's since it opened on the Alameda - We have also visited the other locations when they opened - We enjoyed the Natalie's burrito especially. However over the years a lot has changed - this item in particular is no longer on a spinach tortilla and the cubed chicken is overly cooked - like it has been cooking all day and is dried out - not enjoyable. It has also shrunk in size - not the price though. The chile relleno burrito is hit or miss - sometimes the poblano chili pepper is properly cooked sometimes it is not. The salads are no longer enjoyable - Enjoyed the original one so much more. We had to stop ordering the enchladas and tacos because we noticed they tasted overly salty- Service is okay. The food should be exceptional for the price- For us it isn't worth the time or price - We'll pass on this one. sadly. read more

Very nice indeed! Met up with a friend for a week night dinner. The place was packed with locals. Perhaps they need to have a shift schedule because it was so packed till 6.15pm that we had to park far far away. And promptly around 6.15 all the locals finished at once! Ifsome kind of schedule or even an hourly bell is rung a peak times, more of us would get a chance to park closeby and enjoy a meal at Lulu's on the Alameda. Food was great. But unless the do something about parking and scheduling shifts, I wont go back to this location. Also the chairs are very low in height. Like they were for kids. The orders are always incorrect, I typically use the online ordering but even when you call, they still get it wrong. I ordered the Mexican fries and requested no cheese, brought it home only to bite into a wad of cheese. When I called to have them redo it and specifically told them NO CHEESE, the second order has cheese, a lot more this time. Also, they forgot to add corn in the first order. I drove back and forth twice, waste of time and money. They weren't that busy either. So disappointing. I should've opened my order at the restaurant instead of taking it home, but I thought they'd follow instructions the second time. read more

We usually order online customers, so when it was open house and we were hungry afterward, we said, "Let's go to lulus, why not?" So, we walked in at 7:15. And I go to the restroom WOOW what a surprise to me it was dirty and the cook had just laid a fat one in the bathroom mannn it stank so bad. At that point I'm like I hope he washed his hands and then it's my turn to wash my hands mind you good thing they had lays on the top of a little rack they had there but geeez that smell was hideous like he was sick or something. So I'm going to wash my hands. i washed them, and there's no napkins. So I'm stuck, like, how do I open this door without touching it? So I grabbed some toilet paper, and that's how I opened the door. Oh, and the straws are not wrapped. Be aware! great Lulu's location! I have come here weekly for over a year, and it never disappoints. The food is incredibly delicious. Some of my favorites are "The Works" Taco + the enchiladas plate (with green sauce). We order ahead, and our food is always ready when we arrive. They stay busy - especially during the lunch time rush, but they are very efficient and staff is always so kind. Will keep coming back - hopefully forever! :D read more

Burrito was terrible! So bland! My eight-year-old could've made a better burrito ((and it wouldn't have cost me $14) . And when I ask for chips, it was nearly 5 dollars extra as opposed to any other place that gives them away for free with your order. The chips were the only saving grace. And after reading several yelp reviews, I think the staff should spend more time fixing the problems then talking to customers online here. Good luck! read more

Decent Mexican food but not the best for me. I insist you come early cuz if it's right at 12p during the weekday lunches, the line is outside the door!! The people love it here though and they take it to-go! The place is small. They use metal cold chairs. Ok cleanliness. They have a good selection of choices. It's not a fancy place for dates either. It's a pick up and go kinda place. They do have their salsa bar...it's pretty good. I wish they had the guacamole salsa though! I had their taco salad and I said a little bit of refried beans. They gave me a lot of beans more than the pastor meat I asked for. The shell was good but it still lacked flavor over all. Im not sure what it was? My friends ordered different tacos and are street sized tacos. The fish taco was pretty big though. Decent prices. There is not much Mexican restos close by so this will have to do. I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but I felt extremely dissatisfied with this taco salad from Lulus. I know that tomatoes in pico de gallo contain water, but it should really be drained before putting in a salad. All the lettuce was soggy and I spent $16 on this dish. The only reason I'm not giving a 1 star review is because I always enjoy their chopped salad with shrimp. read more

The service was very good and very polite. The open seating inside and out and with many open windows makes it easier and very convenient to eat at your leisure. The food quality was very authentic and very fresh. They offer three types of spicy sauce the green the red and the orange, the real spicy one is the orange one. I have a flout us for lunch but the variety in their menu is incredible day long and look forward to tasting a few of their appetizers and maybe even your salads. This establishment looks very clean and well-kept. Service is always a smile how are you can't see it due to their mask but you can actually come in without a mask thx to the new CDC guidelines. OK..maybe it's because I used Doordash and didn't pick up the food, but my order came extremely cold. When I got my Cheese Enchiladas - it came drowned in the green sauce- each bite was just super wet and soggy- heating up the food didn't do much either. On top of that, the rice was pretty hard and not edible. If this was yesterday's rice- y'all should be ashamed for serving old food - it kept getting stuck in my teeth so I eventually just tossed it after taking 2 bites. I love this place. The food is good- not authentic, but good food! My go to, never fail is the large chop salad with black beans and shrimp. It doesn't come with black beans, but I love it with them. It does come with avocado, bell pepper, tomorrow's, tortilla chip squares, some seeds, and a cilantro cream dressing. They grill the shrimp and it's delicious. The service is rather quick, it does get super busy around lunch hours, so be prepared from 11:30-1:30 for longer lines, longer wait time and no seating and difficult time finding parking. The reason I marked it down a star is bc it's sort of expensive. The salad I get comes to $19- it's a $2 extra charge for shrimp and also extra charge for beans. It's not a daily, or weekly meal for me, I can justify the cost- but it is a delicious treat. read more

The owner is on the wrong business if it was bad before now is even worse. Cashier's look like the came out from jail to work and they going back after their shift is over. Made a $160 order for pick up. Got it home to find an entree and some small items missing. Called them back to get the missing items and ordered and added a $10 order of tamales. Went to pick it up and they actually charged me for the tamales after driving there twice in the rain. They even presented the tipping section of the check out screen. I'd have thought the add on would be comped but whatever. Adding insult to injury I cut into the tamales and they both contained a pencil thin rod of meat and the rest was all masa. What the heck.... I come here because it's close by and I can order online. Especially if I need to have dinner at a certain time because of school events. Just recently we had Back to School night and I needed pick up dinner beforehand so that we could be at school at 5:00p. I ordered online and selected 4:15p for pick-up. When I arrived, they hadn't even started the order. And once they did, it took forever. It wasn't even ready until 4:40p. What is the point of being able to order ahead? This is NOT a good place for gluten free, though their menu states items are gluten free, they do not use any precautions and though I've eaten there and not gotten sick (celiac), recently I was very sick (almost went to ER). Most restaurants in general do not take gluten free serious enough. I wish they would stop listing items on their menu as GF, when they clearly are not. read more

I got the chimichanga (beef) and thought it was pretty decent. The outer shell was fried dough and crispy. The beef inside wasn't too bad. I actually really liked the guacamole and the tomato salsa. The most u unpleasant staff works here. I've been a customer for the past five years and the food is great. That is the reason I come back. At the register I've never been smiled at. Never experienced a "welcome back" vibe or a welcoming vibe at all. Every time I visit I say to myself and whoever I am with "why aren't they nice, where are the customer service skills ?" It's also a place that if u don't know your food is ready, they will leave it on top of the counter until you come get it. I've been here so many times when the place isn't busy and the staff won't even bring you your burrito. Last two times I've ordered food for pick up, they've gotten it wrong both times. Today I picked up two orders , I asked for salsa, they stated they already put in my bag. I checked and it was red and green. I asked for spicy sauce, they requested I give the other salsa back. I gave them green salsa back and asked for more spicy salsa for other order, they said to give them the other red salsa back. I wanted to try that salsa but wanted my friends to have the salsa they wanted too. They should probably focus more on getting the orders together properly and right rather than being so greedy over salsa. LuLu's is killing it these days. Great staff who understand customer service! The chop salad is our go to. Add black beans and it becomes an even better salad. Get the pollo asado or grilled shrimp added and even if you don't like salads, you will like this! After all these years of going there, I still keep getting the fish tacos and the red pozole. The chips and salsas are all freshly made there and so good! We ordered so many things this last time, the chips didn't make the picture but the salsa fresca and guacamole did! ! For pork lovers, get the carnitas plate. Their carnitas are so clean and melts in your mouth! I think of it this place as cal-mex. Essentially great Mexican food influenced by the finest, fresh healthy ingredients. Everything is typically mild spicy but they have some killer spicy salsa if you want to step it up.
