Small shop that was run by only 2 people working hard so be patient. I ordered an al pastor taco, pupusa, and asada burrito. My favorite was the Al pastor taco which had a generous portion of meat. The red salsa isn't really spicy but still delicious. The pupusa was nice and cheesy, and parts of the outside were crispy. The burrito is solid. Nothing too crazy but still delicious and had a good amount of filling. Overall, I'd rate it a 7/10. I had a good amount of tasty food for $24 total, which I think is a solid deal. $4 for a taco is slightly steep, but it is Palo Alto so I understand. This place is a must try. The people are very friendly and the food is amazing. Came here on Thursday late afternoon and to my surprise it wasn't busy. Our order: 6 asada street tacos: tortilla was crispy, not greasy and meat was flavorful Asada super burrito: flavorful and great Asada pupusa: one of the best I've had. Solid pupusas! Came by on a Friday for a light late lunch. Pupusas made to order and I like that they have vegan options. Tried the vegan cheese and beans, and then the carne asada for both ends of the spectrum. Both were excellent. Pupusas always take a while so keep that in mind, but that's the trade off for freshly handmade food! Note that they are a bit on the pricey end: two pupusas plus 18% tip was $13, but 3-4 would've made a more substantial lunch. My two were more of a snack. For the cost, I wish there was just a bit more curtido and sauce (or offered the option of a spicy sauce). This is my first meal of today and I'm glad I came here first. Been a really rough day and I know I needed to have a good homestyle cooked meal. There are a few meals that come close to anything Mexican and in Menlo Park, this is my go to spot. Coming in on a rainy day there weren't too many people so it was easy to order without the extra noise in the background. The restaurant is full of natural light painted with bright colors and a welcoming atmosphere whether you are ordering to take out or eating in. The service was quick and easy And I had my meal in less than 20 minutes. I ordered the taco plate switching out regular tacos for vegan tacos and with a drink and tip it came to just about $20. Definitely a great bargain for your dollar especially with the economy the way it is today.I'm glad to be a faithful customer to this restaurant and I look forward to the next meal. read more

I only tried one item for a late afternoon snack - a vegan cheese and bean pupusa cooked to order - it was delish! A bit pricer than I expected - I think the vegan cheese adds a dollar to the regular price. But it was dang good - it came with cortido in a plastic bag which was problematic in that it's placed in the same container next to the pupusa and can start to melt. Be sure to ask for that to be kept out = note to self on next visit. Definitely coming back to try some more options. read more

I really liked their Pupusas because they're huge! They just take a very long time, I mean I understand there was only one lady cooking up with the handmade pupusas in the back when I came during my 30 min lunch. I'm glad I was able to come in due to it being so close to my work, only seven minutes away. Unfortunately I forgot how long it takes to make Pupusas so it was definitely a wait for a three piece pupusa's and definitely went way over my 30 minutes I got the 2 revuelta and 1 chicharon con queso. I think next time I'll just get the Chicharrón con queso. I really liked that one compared to the revuelta. The place is straight forward it only has a couple seating tables and I noticed they take phone order ahead so maybe I'll do that next time. They don't give you the red sauce by default so you have to ask for it! Pupusas! We got the revuelta pupusa which has pork, cheese and beans. My coworker's El Salvadorean mother-in-law makes pupusas and sometimes she brings in extra to work. These tasted similar so it seems pretty authentic. They are also pretty filling, so 2 was enough for me. It's served with the traditional cabbage slaw/salsa (curtido). We did take out, and I wish we had gotten a bit more of the curtido. We also tried the pastor super burrito. Unfortunately the pastor was a bit tough but the burrito overall was good. They appear to have vegetarian and vegan options (need to please the MP crowd lol). I need to try the tacos and torta. Cheesy and warm and comes with a bag of pickled vegetables that complemented the heavier cheese pork and beans. Would come back for this. The mediocre: The chicken and pork tacos not so much... felt the meat was over cooked and dry, and there wasn't much in the way of flavor. Overall: If I were to come back I'd stick to the pupusa, try the quesadilla, or maybe the taco mama Cheli style. Other: - Ambiance is nothing fancy but does the job for a quick solo meal or catch up with a friend. The place is open for indoor dining and also has two small outdoor tables. Came here randomly becuase I was in the area on a delivery for work and it was lunch time. Small little spot in a small corner shopping center off El Camino. The restaurant was very clean and super simple. Few tables inside and if I remember one or two on the outside. Ordered an asada taco and a pastor taco and both were very good. Also ordered the mama cheli pupusa which added some more cheese and jalapeños to the top of the pupusa. Very good, but don't think I would pay the $4 again for it and probably stick to th regular ones instead. Prices are also very good and reasonable. Kinda disappointed with my food here. Overall the items I ordered were pretty greasy and lacked any flavor. I got the Mami Chelis Quesadilla since I love a corn tortilla. But it was really oily and fell apart super quickly. This one had all the essentials but no flavor. Also ordered the Classic Pupusa, and I've never had one before, but it was just kinda flimsy and again didn't have too much flavor. Mami Cheli's has a special place in my heart; it was about time downtown Menlo Park had an affordable place to eat. The super torta is HUGE, always super fresh tasting, and very filling. The pupusas are also quite large and tasty as well. You know a place is good if there are some days where you specifically crave their food. Service can be spotty for sure. There were times where our food was served quickly, and other times where we had to wait 25+ minutes. However, the food never disappoints. Overall / Recommendations: Nice, local Mexican spot, though nothing overtly wow-worthy. Order the grilled steak if choosing a red meat. Regular Burrito, Asada: Enjoyed the option of refried beans as these held up really well and served as a binding agent for all other fillings. Would recommend doing trying this if/when ordering their burrito. The burrito was incredibly skimpy though on the meat portions, which left me wanting more as there just a few bites that contained asada. If they were to incorporate more meat into the burritos with meat, I'd consider giving this place another go. Small Quesadilla, Grilled Steak: Exactly what you'd expect from a quesadilla - nice sear on the tortilla and cheesy. The grilled steak was the highlight of this dish and the entire order - flavorful and well cooked. Bonus Item: Ordered a side of guac with the burrito and it came as fresh, sliced avocado (instead of guac). I actually preferred this, but the menu ought to be updated accordingly. Additionally, there is minimal interior and outdoor seating; thus this places lends itself best for delivery and/or takeout. read more

This is a cool little spot in Menlo Park & probably the only vegan pupusas I've tried in the Bay Area. It was a bit confusing & a struggle to order * 2 Vegan Pupusas * 1 Vegan Cheesy Pupusa * 1 Vegan Cheese & Bean Pupusa * Super Vegan Quesadilla but we managed to get our order correct however, they forgot to get the drink in the first order. It wasn't an issue because we were in no rush. The service gets a (4/5 the cashier had patience with us. Our order was made fresh & they got us in and out in a decent time. The Jamaica was delicious. I would come back just for the Jamaica. The Vegan Super Quesadilla was superb ‍ (5/5) They have a few more different vegan options that I have to come back and try. April 2020: Ordered take out again while Sheltered in Place... even treated my co workers for all their hard work in our clinic. Mami Chelis did not disappoint! I ordered by phone and there was a bit of background noise that made it a bit challenging to pay by over the phone but third times the charm and we were set. My co workers picked up the food without any problem. We enjoyed the burrito, papusa vegan, papusa revuelta, and tacos.
