I have to give a shoutout to my cousin and fellow Elite Yelper -- Jennifer H. for finding Sally for my mom. My sister was doing a wedding banquet in Orange County, and my mom was looking for a make up artist and hair stylist for us, and my cousin found her on yelp. My mom booked her over the phone I believe back in April of this year, and our banquet was in September, and I believe from what my mom said she also did a test make up and hair trial with her (it costs money, but I don't remember how much). She sent us a scheduled for the day of after my mom paid her deposit, and she arrived about 10 minutes early. We went around the house to try to find a good place to do hair a make up. Bathrooms don't really work, but good daylighting, a counter for all their tools, and chairs for us to sit in is all they need. We ended up in the family room by the window. Sally and Wendy, the assistant, went right to work. My mom offered them food since we had a lot of people and food that day, but they kept my mom in check with time. They respectfully declined, and said they needed to start our make up right away. Good thing they did they because they kept on schedule the whole time. The 3 of us had different hair styles we wanted. My sister, the bride, had something in mind, a "loose" updo that she found on pinterest. I told Sally to do whatever she wanted with my hair, but since I knew I would be walking around a lot that it's probably best to have it up. She ended up braiding it to a pretty up-do. I had to walk around a lot during the wedding, so I am happy that my hair stayed all day!! And my hair is very thick so very difficult to curl, so I am happy that at 1AM that night, my hair was still curled!! My mom also has short, curly hair so she wanted to make it curlier and Wendy was able to do that for her. I don't know anything about hair or makeup, so it's hard for me to judge them on their artistic ability. But all 3 of us were very happy with our hair and make up! I like that there was make up, but it didn't feel heavy nor did I look like I was caked with makeup. I just looked like a "better version of myself". Wendy really did a good job! I will add they were so easy to work with and easy to talk to. They are very knowledgeable about their make up products. For instance, they noticed my sister has very dry skin and lips, and suggested she shouldn't use Mac products. It's great for the colors, but very bad for dry skin and will make it drier! Sally speaks Mandarin as well, so that helped with my mom in communication. Wendy speaks Vietnamese, so they can definitely work with bilingual families. Both these ladies also have weekday full time jobs, so they hare definitely hustlers! I like that type of work ethic, and they're good at their jobs!! read more

I had to look for a makeup artist without having any trial sessions, based on the pictures i've seen i just booked her. I was very satisfied with the hair and makeup done on me. I actually didn't have a specific look, i just had Sally do everything based on her expertise; and the outcome turned out well. The only problem I had was that the makeup and hair took longer than expected especially with her assistant. She spent more time on hair than on the makeup. We ended up being in a rush to get things ready. Aside from that, if we had a better time schedule, things would have been better. I'm pretty sure I was like 15 minutes late for my hair and makeup trial with Sally because they had the roads closed for a marathon and she was so patient and kind about it! She is very nice and is willing to work with your ideas even if they are a bit different than what people normally ask for for wedding makeup. I wanted some purple in my eyeshadow and she found a fantastic way to incorporate the purple while still making my makeup look elegant. She requests you bring your own lipstick so that you'll have it after she leaves for touch ups, but I wasn't sure what would look good and didn't have any colors I was happy with so instead she choose a color during the trial and ordered it for me for the wedding day. I am vain. So I speak with some authority when I say these guys are good. I got married about a week ago and my hair and makeup was perfect. Just the right amount of smoky eye, bouffant, blush and hairspray to look great in wedding photos without looking like a clown or a drag queen. It wasn't a themed wedding, or else clown might have been perfect. Everything stayed where it should (airbrush, fake eyelashes, silly glittery flower hair piece, the whole high-maintenance deal) and despite the hot weather, my face and hair lasted the entire day and night (from 1:00 pm to 1:00 am) without melting, deflating or rubbing off and probably would have latest longer if I had stayed awake! My face AND hair even survived an impromptu, late-night after-party at our hotel! So, to testify, my photos look amazing (which is basically the second most important thing after the groom and marriage vows and bliss so on) and I felt amazing. I recently got my makeup done with Sally and her amazing team as a bridesmaid for a friend's wedding. It was such a great experience and they really are able to work with the inspiration pictures that I provided them. Getting my hair done was a last minute decision and I'm so glad I ended up doing it. My hair was done by Katrina and it stayed put all night. I don't really wear makeup throughout the week and only use the bare minimum on the weekends (BB Cream, blush, eyeliner, mascara). I was looking for something natural that didn't make me feel like a clown, but also I wanted it to be heavy enough for pictures. I had one inspiration photo and she said that because of my eye shape the colors wouldn't show up the same way. What can I say - Sally and her team were awesome! As an Indian bride, I was a little hesitant to hire a non-Indian makeup artist since there are a lot of details that go into an Indian bridal look. However, I knew that I did not want the typical HEAVY makeup that I've seen on so many Indian brides. I wanted to look flawless yet natural, and that seems to be Sally's specialty. During the trial session, I was adamant about being a makeup minimalist. Sally obliged me, and took lots of pictures so I could be sure about my look. The makeup looked great, and I actually used it for my engagement pictures. However, as I shared the pictures with friends and family, I became convinced that the look that I chose wasn't "bridal" enough for an Indian wedding. So, at the last minute I called Sally and told her to ignore everything I had said at the trial session, and go with something a little more traditional yet still on the softer side. Sally didn't skip a beat - she knew exactly what would work best for my facial features, and she made me look gorgeous without looking overdone. What was just as important as her awesome makeup skills, is that Sally immediately put everyone at ease. I had lost my voice the night before the wedding, and yet my bridesmaids and I had a blast getting ready with Sally while she chatted and joked around with us. She even answered the phone for me and became my vocal interpreter! Our wedding ceremony ran late, and Sally had to wait at least an hour before she could re-do my hair and makeup for the reception. She was booked for the time we wanted, but she agreed to do my daughter's hair and makeup earlier in the day assuring us that the makeup and hairstyle would stay (which it did).
